therefore_o if_o we_o have_v but_o one_o high_a priest_n there_o can_v be_v but_o one_o mediator_n also_o between_o god_n and_o man._n but_o that_o we_o may_v right_o apprehend_v this_o matter_n and_o be_v able_a to_o distinguish_v between_o the_o prayer_n of_o good_a man_n for_o themselves_o and_o for_o each_o other_o and_o the_o intercession_n of_o a_o mediator_n we_o must_v distinct_o consider_v the_o virtue_n of_o the_o sacrifice_n the_o prayer_n of_o the_o people_n and_o the_o intercession_n of_o the_o priest_n all_o which_o must_v concur_v to_o a_o effectual_a prayer_n to_o obtain_v our_o request_n and_o desire_n of_o god._n thus_o it_o be_v in_o the_o moysaicall_a law._n the_o sacrifice_n be_v slay_v instead_o of_o the_o sinner_n and_o to_o bear_v the_o punishment_n of_o sin_n and_o without_o shed_v of_o blood_n there_o be_v no_o remission_n prayer_n can_v not_o expiate_v sin_n without_o a_o sacrifice_n and_o therefore_o even_o in_o the_o time_n of_o the_o patriarch_n a_o altar_n which_o be_v for_o sacrifice_n be_v the_o place_n of_o their_o devotion_n thus_o noah_n as_o 20._o soon_o as_o he_o come_v out_o of_o the_o ark_n build_v a_o altar_n and_o offer_v sacrifice_n to_o god._n thus_o we_o frequent_o read_v how_o abraham_n in_o his_o travel_n wherever_o he_o make_v any_o stay_n build_v a_o altar_n unto_o the_o lord_n and_o call_v upon_o the_o name_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o therefore_o those_o who_o live_v in_o place_n remote_a from_o jerusalem_n which_o be_v the_o only_a place_n of_o sacrifice_n or_o those_o who_o can_v not_o attend_v the_o daily_a sacrifice_n in_o the_o temple_n yet_o be_v to_o observe_v the_o time_n of_o offer_v their_o sacrifice_n for_o the_o time_n of_o their_o prayer_n whence_o it_o be_v that_o the_o time_n of_o offer_v the_o sacrifice_n be_v call_v also_o the_o hour_n of_o prayer_n 1._o thus_o the_o people_n be_v to_o offer_v a_o sacrifice_n for_o sin_n and_o to_o offer_v up_o their_o prayer_n in_o virtue_n of_o the_o sacrifice_n but_o then_o neither_o their_o prayer_n nor_o their_o sacrifice_n be_v acceptable_a to_o god_n unless_o they_o be_v offer_v by_o the_o priest_n who_o sprinkle_v the_o blood_n of_o the_o sacrifice_n upon_o the_o altar_n to_o make_v atonement_n and_o offer_v incense_n as_o a_o emblem_n of_o their_o prayer_n to_o which_o the_o psalmist_n allude_v let_v my_o prayer_n be_v set_v before_o angel_n who_o stand_v at_o the_o altar_n have_v a_o golden_a censer_n and_o there_o be_v give_v unto_o he_o much_o incense_n that_o he_o shall_v offer_v it_o with_o the_o prayer_n of_o all_o saint_n upon_o the_o golden_a altar_n which_o be_v before_o the_o throne_n and_o the_o smoke_n of_o the_o incense_n which_o 4._o come_v with_o the_o prayer_n of_o the_o saint_n ascend_v before_o god_n out_o of_o the_o angel_n hand_n which_o express_o apply_v these_o legal_a type_n to_o the_o state_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o great_a sacrifice_n and_o great_a high_a priest_n who_o present_v our_o prayer_n to_o god._n the_o death_n of_o christ_n upon_o the_o cross_n be_v the_o sacrifice_n for_o all_o our_o sin_n in_o virtue_n of_o this_o sacrifice_n we_o pray_v to_o god_n but_o christ_n our_o great_a high_a priest_n be_v now_o ascend_v into_o heaven_n to_o present_v himself_o before_o his_o father_n to_o offer_v his_o own_o blood_n and_o in_o virtue_n of_o that_o to_o offer_v our_o
