our_o love_n to_o god_n and_o our_o love_n to_o man_n which_o be_v the_o sum_n of_o all_o our_o duty_n it_o engage_v we_o in_o the_o most_o sacred_a band_n by_o the_o die_a of_o christ_n by_o his_o dear_a love_n by_o all_o the_o blessing_n which_o he_o have_v bestow_v to_o do_v that_o duty_n and_o faithful_o perform_v it_o it_o be_v a_o little_a epitome_n of_o the_o whole_a gospel_n for_o it_o bread_n and_o wine_n without_o any_o labour_n will_v convey_v they_o unto_o he_o and_o therefore_o i_o must_v give_v you_o another_o short_a information_n which_o be_v the_o second_o thing_n that_o i_o promise_v and_o that_o be_v this_o 2._o this_o copious_a food_n do_v not_o nourish_v we_o without_o some_o action_n of_o our_o own_o even_o such_o as_o i_o have_v already_o mention_v in_o this_o blood_n of_o our_o soul_n and_o waste_v our_o strength_n by_o a_o careless_a and_o profane_a eat_v of_o it_o the_o papist_n talk_v of_o great_a thing_n that_o their_o priest_n give_v in_o this_o sacrament_n by_o their_o power_n and_o they_o will_v make_v the_o world_n believe_v that_o they_o communicate_v more_o than_o we_o can_v do_v but_o we_o must_v solemn_o aver_v that_o our_o ministry_n convey_v as_o great_a thing_n as_o they_o speak_v of_o only_a man_n must_v do_v something_o more_o of_o the_o work_n themselves_o we_o pretend_v not_o indeed_o to_o send_v wicked_a man_n to_o heaven_n with_o a_o word_n but_o we_o can_v help_v the_o thought_n and_o affection_n of_o all_o pious_a soul_n as_o much_o as_o they_o with_o all_o their_o skill_n and_o power_n nay_o if_o the_o people_n do_v nothing_o we_o give_v they_o more_o than_o they_o for_o they_o feed_v they_o with_o hungry_a accident_n they_o give_v they_o a_o bit_n of_o quantity_n and_o a_o cup_n of_o colour_n yea_o the_o laity_n have_v not_o so_o much_o as_o a_o sip_n of_o these_o figure_n whereas_o the_o worst_a man_n among_o we_o have_v at_o least_o bread_n and_o wine_n so_o that_o the_o best_a among_o we_o enjoy_v as_o much_o in_o effect_n and_o virtue_n as_o they_o can_v pretend_v unto_o and_o the_o worst_a by_o their_o own_o confession_n enjoy_v much_o more_o but_o the_o truth_n of_o it_o be_v that_o man_n have_v heighten_v these_o thing_n to_o such_o incomprehensible_a mystery_n because_o they_o will_v do_v nothing_o and_o these_o shall_v do_v all_o they_o have_v advance_v these_o sacred_a rite_n of_o christ_n appoinment_n into_o a_o degree_n of_o virtue_n beyond_o all_o his_o other_o command_n that_o so_o by_o these_o easy_a and_o facile_a rite_n of_o baptism_n and_o the_o lord_n supper_n man_n may_v go_v to_o heaven_n by_o a_o compendious_a manner_n of_o do_v little_a or_o nothing_o towards_o their_o salvation_n and_o they_o have_v not_o leave_v these_o rite_n as_o naked_a as_o christ_n bring_v they_o into_o the_o world_n but_o they_o have_v change_v the_o manner_n of_o their_o observance_n and_o clothe_v they_o in_o a_o great_a many_o strange_a dress_n lest_o the_o genuine_a simplicity_n of_o they_o shall_v reprove_v their_o false_a hope_n which_o they_o conceive_v from_o they_o they_o can_v never_o put_v man_n so_o soon_o into_o heaven_n nor_o get_v so_o much_o money_n as_o they_o do_v by_o the_o bargain_n if_o they_o do_v not_o make_v man_n believe_v great_a thing_n of_o this_o sacrament_n then_o of_o all_o the_o eternal_a law_n of_o christ_n and_o they_o can_v not_o make_v man_n believe_v so_o much_o more_o of_o it_o if_o they_o do_v not_o transform_v it_o from_o its_o native_a simplicity_n into_o a_o uncouth_a mystery_n these_o two_o thing_n the_o love_n of_o man_n lust_n and_o the_o love_n of_o the_o world_n have_v make_v man_n stretch_v these_o thing_n so_o far_o as_o to_o defy_v all_o reason_n to_o damn_v all_o those_o that_o will_v not_o speak_v nonsense_n and_o to_o send_v those_o to_o hell_n though_o of_o never_o so_o holy_a life_n that_o will_v not_o discredit_v their_o eye_n and_o ear_n what_o strange_a thing_n will_v man_n believe_v and_o do_v so_o that_o they_o can_v but_o believe_v contrary_a to_o the_o gospel_n they_o hope_v to_o go_v to_o heaven_n they_o know_v not_o how_o by_o the_o magic_n of_o word_n and_o by_o the_o secret_a efficacy_n of_o a_o religion_n that_o they_o do_v not_o understand_v and_o this_o make_v they_o willing_a to_o entertain_v such_o doctrine_n and_o than_o other_o have_v a_o respect_n to_o their_o own_o interest_n and_o have_v little_a else_o to_o support_v their_o greatness_n will_v be_v reverence_v and_o esteem_v for_o their_o extraordinary_a power_n in_o make_v the_o body_n of_o mean_n to_o put_v we_o in_o heaven_n while_o we_o remain_v here_o upon_o the_o earth_n sometime_o they_o will_v needs_o blame_v we_o as_o do_v too_o little_a and_o deny_v the_o use_n of_o good_a work_n but_o this_o be_v such_o a_o falsity_n that_o we_o call_v for_o more_o of_o man_n labour_n than_o they_o seem_v to_o make_v necessary_a and_o profess_v that_o we_o hope_v not_o by_o any_o power_n of_o we_o to_o do_v they_o good_a without_o the_o exercise_n of_o their_o own_o power_n and_o therefore_o let_v we_o put_v forth_o a_o lively_a faith_n let_v we_o hearty_o covenant_n with_o our_o lord_n let_v we_o make_v a_o sincere_a profession_n of_o our_o religion_n and_o exercise_v such_o other_o act_n as_o i_o have_v be_v treat_v of_o and_o so_o will_v this_o feast_n be_v of_o
