from_o the_o lord_n and_o her_o judgement_n pass_v over_o from_o she_o god_n as_o she_o complain_v also_o the_o lord_n have_v forsake_v i_o and_o my_o lord_n have_v forget_v i_o chap._n 49._o 14._o but_o yet_o in_o both_o place_n god_n convince_v she_o of_o her_o mistake_n and_o that_o indeed_o her_o complaint_n be_v but_o a_o fruit_n of_o unbelief_n and_o so_o it_o be_v usual_a in_o great_a distress_n when_o person_n be_v so_o swallow_v up_o with_o sorrow_n or_o overwhelm_v with_o anguish_n that_o they_o be_v not_o sensible_a of_o the_o work_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n in_o their_o we_o understand_v aright_o the_o nature_n of_o spiritual_a consolation_n and_o value_v they_o both_o as_o sufficient_a and_o satisfactory_a we_o be_v not_o like_a to_o enjoy_v they_o at_o least_o not_o to_o be_v make_v sensible_a of_o they_o many_o under_o their_o trouble_n suppose_v there_o be_v no_o comfort_n but_o in_o their_o removal_n and_o know_v not_o of_o any_o relief_n in_o their_o sorrow_n but_o in_o the_o take_n away_o of_o their_o cause_n at_o best_a they_o value_v any_o outward_a relief_n before_o internal_a support_v and_o refreshment_n such_o person_n can_v never_o receive_v the_o consolation_n of_o the_o holy_a spirit_n unto_o any_o refresh_a experience_n to_o look_v for_o all_o our_o comfort_n from_o he_o to_o value_v those_o thing_n wherein_o his_o consolation_n do_v consist_v above_o all_o earthly_a enjoyment_n to_o wait_v upon_o he_o in_o the_o use_n of_o all_o mean_n for_o the_o receive_n of_o his_o instance_n of_o love_n and_o grace_n to_o be_v fervent_a in_o prayer_n for_o his_o presence_n with_o we_o and_o the_o manifestation_n of_o his_o grace_n be_v require_v in_o all_o those_o towards_o who_o he_o discharge_v this_o office_n and_o exhort_v one_o another_o to_o build_v up_o one_o another_o in_o their_o most_o holy_a faith_n and_o it_o be_v the_o loss_n of_o those_o spiritual_a gift_n which_o have_v introduce_v among_o many_o a_o utter_a neglect_n of_o these_o duty_n so_o as_o they_o be_v scarce_o hear_v of_o among_o the_o generality_n of_o they_o that_o be_v call_v christian_n but_o bless_v be_v god_n we_o have_v large_a and_o full_a experience_n of_o the_o continuance_n of_o this_o dispensation_n of_o the_o spirit_n in_o the_o eminent_a ability_n of_o a_o multitude_n of_o private_a christian_n however_o they_o may_v be_v despise_v by_o they_o who_o know_v they_o not_o by_o some_o i_o confess_v they_o have_v be_v abuse_v some_o have_v presume_v on_o they_o beyond_o the_o line_n and_o measure_n which_o they_o have_v receive_v some_o have_v be_v puff_v up_o with_o they_o some_o have_v use_v they_o disorderly_o in_o church_n and_o to_o their_o hurt_n some_o have_v boast_v of_o what_o they_o have_v not_o receive_v all_o which_o miscarriage_n also_o befall_v the_o primitive_a church_n and_o i_o have_v rather_o have_v the_o order_n rule_n spirit_n and_o practice_n of_o those_o church_n that_o be_v plant_v by_o the_o apostle_n with_o all_o their_o trouble_n and_o disadvantage_n than_o the_o carnal_a peace_n of_o other_o in_o their_o open_a degeneracy_n from_o all_o those_o thing_n §_o 12._o it_o remain_v only_o that_o we_o inquire_v how_o man_n may_v come_v unto_o or_o attain_v a_o participation_n of_o these_o gift_n whether_o ministerial_a or_o more_o private_a and_o unto_o this_o end_n we_o may_v observe_v 1_o that_o they_o be_v not_o communicate_v unto_o any_o by_o a_o sudden_a afflatus_fw-la or_o extraordinary_a infusion_n as_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o miracle_n and_o tongue_n which_o be_v bestow_v on_o the_o apostle_n and_o many_o of_o the_o first_o convert_v that_o dispensation_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v long_o since_o cease_v and_o where_o it_o be_v now_o pretend_a unto_o by_o any_o it_o may_v just_o be_v suspect_v as_o a_o enthusiastic_a delusion_n for_o as_o the_o end_n of_o those_o gift_n which_o in_o their_o own_o nature_n exceed_v the_o whole_a power_n of_o all_o our_o faculty_n be_v cease_v so_o be_v their_o communication_n and_o the_o manner_n of_o it_o also_o yet_o this_o i_o must_v say_v that_o the_o infusion_n of_o spiritual_a light_n into_o the_o mind_n which_o be_v the_o foundation_n of_o all_o gift_n as_o have_v be_v prove_v be_v wrought_v sometime_o sudden_o or_o in_o a_o short_a season_n the_o concomitancy_n of_o gift_n in_o some_o good_a measure_n be_v oftentimes_o sudden_a with_o a_o appearance_n of_o something_o extraordinary_a as_o may_v be_v manifest_v in_o instance_n of_o several_a sort_n 2_o these_o gift_n be_v not_o absolute_o attainable_a by_o our_o own_o diligence_n and_o endeavour_n in_o the_o use_n of_o mean_n without_o respect_n unto_o the_o sovereign_n will_v and_o pleasure_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n suppose_v there_o be_v such_o mean_n of_o the_o attainment_n and_o improvement_n of_o they_o and_o that_o several_a person_n do_v with_o the_o same_o measure_n of_o natural_a ability_n and_o diligence_n use_v those_o mean_n for_o that_o end_n yet_o it_o will_v not_o follow_v that_o all_o must_v be_v equal_o partaker_n of_o they_o they_o be_v not_o the_o immediate_a product_n of_o our_o own_o endeavour_n no_o not_o as_o under_o a_o ordinary_a blessing_n upon_o they_o for_o they_o be_v 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d arbitrary_a largess_n or_o gift_n which_o the_o holy_a spirit_n work_v in_o all_o person_n several_o as_o he_o will_n hence_o we_o see_v the_o different_a event_n that_o be_v among_o they_o who_o be_v exercise_v in_o the_o same_o study_n and_o endeavour_n some_o be_v endue_v with_o eminent_a gift_n some_o scarce_o attain_v unto_o any_o that_o be_v useful_a and_o some_o despise_v they_o name_n and_o thing_n there_o be_v therefore_o a_o immediate_a operation_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o the_o collation_n of_o these_o spiritual_a ability_n which_o be_v unaccountable_a by_o the_o measure_n of_o natural_a part_n and_o industry_n yet_o i_o say_v 4_o that_o ordinary_o they_o be_v both_o attain_v and_o increase_v by_o the_o due_a use_n of_o mean_n suit_v thereunto_o as_o grace_n be_v also_o which_o none_o but_o pelagian_n affirm_v to_o be_v absolute_o in_o the_o power_n of_o our_o own_o wi_n and_o the_o name_n of_o these_o mean_n shall_v put_v
