seal_v up_o among_o his_o disciple_n and_o christ_n in_o the_o name_n of_o all_o the_o doctor_n as_o their_o head_n or_o rather_o as_o the_o only_a doctor_n who_o guide_v we_o by_o their_o ministry_n pronounce_v that_o although_o we_o see_v such_o a_o desperate_a unthankfulness_n in_o the_o world_n yet_o there_o shall_v always_o be_v some_o which_o shall_v yield_v themselves_o obedient_a unto_o god_n thus_o you_o see_v how_o this_o place_n of_o isaiah_n be_v fit_o apply_v unto_o christ_n and_o thereupon_o the_o apostle_n gather_v that_o we_o be_v one_o with_o he_o because_o he_o associate_n father_n have_v ordain_v unto_o life_n those_o he_o commit_v to_o the_o tuition_n of_o his_o son_n to_o the_o end_n he_o may_v conserve_v and_o keep_v they_o and_o that_o be_v it_o which_o he_o say_v paint_a table_n also_o that_o we_o shall_v not_o doubt_v but_o the_o like_a will_v befall_v we_o if_o we_o be_v find_v guilty_a of_o the_o same_o infidelity_n to_o fall_v then_o be_v take_v to_o perish_v or_o to_o speak_v more_o clear_o it_o be_v take_v for_o the_o punishment_n and_o not_o for_o the_o sin_n but_o this_o metaphor_n be_v to_o be_v refer_v both_o to_o the_o former_a word_n of_o word_n be_v not_o effectual_a indifferent_o and_o equal_o in_o all_o for_o the_o virtue_n thereof_o manifest_v itself_o in_o the_o elect_a that_o be_v humble_v in_o the_o true_a acknowledgement_n of_o themselves_o they_o shall_v have_v their_o recourse_n to_o the_o grace_n of_o christ_n which_o can_v be_v do_v unless_o it_o pierce_v into_o the_o very_a depth_n of_o the_o heart_n for_o hypocrisy_n which_o have_v many_o dark_a corner_n and_o wonderful_a conveyance_n in_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n must_v be_v cast_v out_o neither_o be_v it_o enough_o that_o we_o feel_v some_o light_a pricking_n but_o we_o must_v be_v pierce_v and_o gage_v to_o the_o bottom_n that_o so_o be_v overwhelm_v with_o the_o feel_n of_o eternal_a death_n we_o may_v learn_v to_o die_v to_o ourselves_o in_o a_o word_n we_o shall_v never_o be_v whole_o renew_v in_o the_o spirit_n of_o our_o mind_n which_o s._n paul_n notwithstanding_o command_n eph._n 4.23_o till_o our_o old_a man_n be_v slay_v by_o the_o stroke_n of_o this_o spiritual_a sword_n and_o therefore_o in_o another_o place_n the_o same_o apostle_n say_v that_o the_o faithful_a be_v sacrifice_v to_o god_n by_o the_o gospel_n phil._n 2.17_o why_o they_o proud_o contemn_v god_n speak_v unto_o they_o yea_o they_o spare_v not_o to_o deride_v he_o or_o else_o they_o murmur_v against_o his_o doctrine_n &_o obstinate_o kick_v and_o spurn_v against_o it_o anvil_n the_o heart_n of_o the_o reprobate_n compare_v to_o the_o anvil_n so_o that_o even_o as_o the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v a_o hammer_n so_o have_v they_o also_o a_o heart_n as_o the_o anvil_n drive_v the_o blow_n back_o again_o be_v they_o never_o so_o mighty_a and_o therefore_o it_o be_v unpossible_a the_o word_n of_o god_n shall_v pierce_v so_o far_o in_o they_o as_o to_o come_v to_o the_o division_n of_o the_o soul_n and_o of_o the_o spirit_n for_o this_o cause_n it_o seem_v that_o this_o title_n ought_v only_o to_o be_v restrain_v to_o the_o faithful_a see_v none_o but_o they_o do_v examine_v themselves_o thus_o to_o the_o quick_a notwithstanding_o the_o coherence_n of_o the_o text_n of_o the_o apostle_n show_v that_o it_o be_v a_o general_a sentence_n which_o extend_v itself_o even_o to_o the_o reprobate_n for_o although_o they_o be_v not_o soften_v by_o it_o but_o do_v set_v heart_n of_o iron_n and_o steel_n against_o god_n and_o his_o word_n yet_o must_v they_o necessary_o be_v shut_v up_o under_o their_o own_o condemnation_n it_o be_v true_a they_o laugh_v but_o it_o be_v the_o laughter_n of_o a_o ostler_n as_o they_o say_v for_o they_o feel_v themselves_o wring_v as_o it_o be_v within_o many_o shift_n and_o turn_n they_o make_v that_o they_o may_v not_o come_v near_o the_o judgement_n seat_n of_o god_n but_o thither_o be_v they_o draw_v spirit_n who_o will_v willing_o bring_v out_o of_o use_v that_o holy_a rule_n of_o a_o oath_n which_o god_n have_v give_v in_o his_o law_n for_o out_o of_o question_n the_o apostle_n here_o speak_v of_o the_o manner_n of_o a_o oath_n as_o of_o a_o holy_a thing_n allow_v and_o approve_v of_o god_n and_o it_o be_v also_o to_o be_v note_v that_o he_o do_v not_o only_o say_v that_o it_o be_v thus_o in_o use_n in_o old_a time_n but_o also_o testify_v that_o it_o last_v even_o yet_o to_o this_o day_n let_v we_o then_o take_v a_o oath_n for_o a_o help_n to_o maintain_v the_o truth_n when_o we_o want_v other_o proof_n so_o god_n will_v more_o abundant_o etc._n etc._n verse_n 17_o see_v how_o the_o lord_n apply_v himself_o to_o our_o dulness_n and_o slowness_n to_o believe_v and_o how_o he_o in_o vain_a vouchsafe_v to_o swear_v to_o confirm_v we_o in_o the_o assurance_n of_o it_o oath_n our_o salvation_n be_v in_o great_a account_n with_o god_n see_v he_o stick_v not_o to_o confirm_v we_o in_o the_o assurance_n thereof_o by_o his_o oath_n we_o may_v also_o gather_v from_o hence_o in_o what_o estimation_n our_o salvation_n be_v before_o god_n see_v that_o to_o provide_v for_o the_o certainty_n thereof_o he_o not_o only_o support_v our_o incredulity_n but_o leave_v as_o it_o be_v part_n of_o his_o own_o honour_n and_o yield_v much_o more_o to_o our_o weakness_n than_o he_o even_o in_o a_o troublesome_a sea_n toss_v with_o flood_n and_o wave_n for_o the_o devil_n he_o cease_v not_o to_o raise_v up_o infinite_a storm_n and_o tempest_n that_o may_v at_o once_o overturn_v
