chastisement_n to_o be_v without_o chastisement_n in_o this_o verse_n be_v oppose_v to_o endure_v chasten_v in_o the_o former_a verse_n whence_o it_o appear_v that_o the_o word_n endure_v in_o the_o former_a verse_n do_v not_o signify_v the_o virtue_n of_o patience_n which_o be_v a_o duty_n belong_v to_o the_o godly_a but_o only_o the_o suffering_n or_o sense_n of_o pain_n which_o concern_v their_o state_n and_o condition_n he_o show_v on_o the_o other_o part_n illustrate_v the_o thing_n from_o the_o contrary_a what_o a_o inconvenience_n it_o be_v for_o a_o man_n to_o be_v without_o acknowledge_v for_o the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o so_o undergo_v chastisement_n or_o if_o we_o will_v not_o be_v chastise_v we_o must_v be_v account_v bastard_n whereof_o all_o be_v partaker_n to_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o to_o be_v chastise_v at_o least_o as_o often_o as_o need_n require_v be_v condition_n so_o connex_v and_o couple_v between_o themselves_o that_o all_o the_o son_n universal_o but_o general_o because_o there_o be_v few_o son_n or_o rather_o but_o one_o only_a who_o deserve_v not_o chastisement_n neither_o have_v any_o need_n of_o it_o and_o yet_o even_o he_o be_v exercise_v with_o hard_a condition_n not_o that_o he_o be_v partaker_n of_o chastisement_n proper_o that_o be_v of_o punishment_n for_o what_o place_n can_v punishment_n have_v in_o he_o that_o be_v most_o innocent_a but_o that_o by_o his_o stripe_n and_o wound_n we_o may_v be_v perfect_o heal_v hence_o the_o chastisement_n of_o our_o peace_n or_o that_o bring_v we_o true_a peace_n and_o happiness_n be_v say_v to_o have_v be_v upon_o he_o esay_n 53.5_o in_o which_o place_n the_o word_n chastisement_n must_v by_o way_n of_o synecdoche_n be_v take_v for_o affliction_n then_o be_v you_o bastard_n and_o not_o son_n you_o be_v not_o true_o bear_v of_o god_n not_o such_o who_o god_n acknowledge_v for_o his_o son_n and_o child_n but_o you_o be_v bastard_n and_o changeling_n for_o they_o be_v bastard_n who_o go_v for_o the_o son_n of_o such_o a_o man_n yet_o indeed_o be_v not_o beget_v of_o he_o and_o such_o be_v not_o always_o acknowledge_v of_o their_o carnal_a father_n but_o our_o gospel_n be_v publish_v by_o god_n from_o heaven_n you_o will_v say_v that_o god_n then_o no_o less_o publish_v the_o law_n from_o heaven_n than_o afterward_o he_o do_v the_o gospel_n see_v god_n himself_o descend_v not_o from_o heaven_n but_o as_o he_o send_v christ_n from_o heaven_n to_o preach_v the_o gospel_n so_o he_o send_v a_o angel_n from_o heaven_n in_o his_o name_n to_o deliver_v the_o law_n to_o this_o i_o answer_v there_o be_v a_o great_a difference_n between_o the_o mission_n or_o send_v of_o christ_n from_o god_n and_o of_o that_o angel_n for_o christ_n be_v send_v from_o god_n carry_v himself_o always_o as_o a_o person_n diverse_a from_o god_n which_o the_o thing_n itself_o declare_v for_o he_o be_v the_o son_n of_o man_n and_o call_v himself_o god_n messenger_n send_v from_o god_n do_v manifest_o profess_v and_o testify_v that_o his_o doctrine_n be_v not_o his_o own_o but_o he_o who_o send_v he_o that_o he_o speak_v nothing_o of_o himself_o but_o what_o he_o have_v receive_v and_o hear_v from_o the_o father_n but_o that_o angel_n so_o descend_v from_o heaven_n that_o he_o bear_v the_o person_n and_o name_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o he_o always_o it_o signify_v that_o god_n descend_v on_o earth_n to_o publish_v the_o law_n but_o that_o the_o precept_n of_o the_o law_n be_v earthly_a and_o not_o heavenly_a for_o they_o that_o speak_v from_o a_o low_a place_n seem_v to_o speak_v but_o low_a matter_n and_o they_o earthly_a that_o speak_v from_o the_o earth_n as_o we_o read_v in_o the_o gospel_n of_o john_n chap._n 3.31_o but_o contrary_o that_o god_n remain_v in_o heaven_n and_o not_o descend_v himself_o on_o earth_n either_o in_o his_o own_o person_n or_o in_o the_o person_n of_o another_o have_v speak_v to_o we_o by_o christ_n send_v from_o heaven_n as_o his_o interpreter_n and_o messenger_n what_o else_o can_v this_o signify_v but_o that_o he_o have_v speak_v heavenly_a thing_n and_o that_o christ_n be_v far_o great_a than_o moses_n for_o as_o it_o be_v write_v in_o the_o forecited_n place_n of_o john_n he_o that_o come_v from_o above_o be_v above_o all_o and_o he_o that_o come_v from_o heaven_n be_v above_o all_o in_o this_o sense_n therefore_o that_o angel_n represent_v god_n must_v stand_v for_o god_n and_o christ_n must_v not_o be_v compare_v with_o that_o angel_n who_o represent_v the_o person_n and_o name_n of_o god_n but_o with_o moses_n and_o the_o difference_n between_o christ_n and_o moses_n must_v stand_v in_o this_o that_o god_n speak_v to_o moses_n on_o earth_n but_o to_o christ_n in_o heaven_n and_o that_o god_n send_v moses_n from_o the_o mount_n to_o the_o israelite_n but_o christ_n from_o heaven_n to_o christian_n if_o this_o be_v displease_v to_o any_o man_n which_o yet_o we_o believe_v to_o be_v most_o agreeable_a both_o to_o the_o truth_n and_o to_o the_o scripture_n and_o to_o the_o text_n we_o may_v say_v which_o be_v our_o other_o answer_n to_o the_o question_n propose_v and_o another_o sense_n of_o the_o word_n that_o by_o he_o who_o speak_v on_o earth_n must_v be_v understand_v that_o angel_n who_o in_o god_n name_n publish_v the_o law_n on_o mount_n sinai_n and_o by_o he_o who_o speak_v from_o heaven_n must_v be_v understand_v the_o most_o high_a god_n himself_o for_o he_o that_o by_o himself_o deliver_v law_n on_o earth_n do_v thereby_o show_v that_o he_o be_v not_o the_o most_o high_a god_n for_o the_o majesty_n of_o the_o most_o high_a god_n permit_v not_o that_o the_o king_n of_o king_n and_o lord_n of_o lord_n shall_v depart_v from_o his_o inaccessible_a light_n and_o from_o his_o heavenly_a throne_n to_o descend_v down_o upon_o earth_n but_o he_o that_o offer_v himself_o as_o god_n to_o be_v hear_v from_o heaven_n he_o by_o far_o great_a reason_n must_v be_v reckon_v for_o god_n himself_o but_o you_o will_v say_v when_o do_v god_n himself_o publish_v the_o gospel_n from_o heaven_n i_o answer_v this_o be_v do_v then_o when_o by_o his_o voice_n utter_v from_o heaven_n he_o testify_v that_o christ_n be_v his_o belove_a son_n and_o therefore_o his_o ambassador_n and_o withal_o command_v we_o to_o hear_v he_o for_o shall_v not_o god_n himself_o be_v think_v to_o speak_v to_o we_o from_o heaven_n when_o we_o hear_v that_o doctrine_n which_o god_n himself_o authorise_v by_o his_o voice_n utter_v from_o heaven_n for_o although_o by_o the_o wise_a determination_n of_o god_n the_o promiscuous_a multitude_n hear_v not_o this_o voice_n with_o their_o ear_n yet_o it_o be_v hear_v and_o publish_v by_o they_o who_o of_o god_n he_o turn_v away_o from_o god_n and_o as_o it_o be_v turn_v his_o back_n upon_o he_o who_o refuse_v either_o to_o believe_v or_o obey_v the_o voice_n of_o god_n 26._o who_o voice_n then_o shake_v the_o earth_n from_o these_o word_n it_o seem_v to_o be_v gather_v that_o the_o author_n by_o he_o who_o speak_v on_o earth_n understand_v god_n himself_o for_o here_o he_o mainifest_o action_n may_v not_o be_v ascribe_v both_o to_o god_n and_o to_o the_o angel_n who_o in_o publish_v the_o law_n sustain_v the_o person_n of_o god_n as_o likewise_o that_o speak_a or_o utter_v the_o oracle_n a_o little_a before_o mention_v for_o the_o angel_n proper_o and_o immediate_o do_v both_o shake_v the_o earth_n or_o mountain_n and_o also_o speak_v and_o god_n do_v it_o mediate_o by_o
