it_o grow_v unexpert_a and_o unable_a to_o give_v a_o answer_n when_o it_o may_v be_v we_o desire_v it_o the_o direction_n of_o conscience_n where_o it_o be_v well_o use_v be_v seldom_o without_o the_o immediate_a direction_n of_o the_o very_a spirit_n of_o god_n and_o when_o the_o guidance_n of_o that_o spirit_n be_v neglect_v it_o will_v not_o return_v to_o thy_o assistance_n when_o thou_o please_v 2._o it_o turn_v that_o which_o will_v be_v thy_o counsellor_n into_o thy_o accuser_n and_o tormentor_n thou_o refuse_v to_o give_v her_o time_n to_o do_v her_o office_n before_o thy_o action_n and_o therefore_o it_o will_v be_v bold_a to_o take_v time_n to_o do_v her_o office_n after_o she_o can_v be_v admit_v to_o advise_v thou_o but_o she_o will_v take_v liberty_n to_o accuse_v and_o sting_v thou_o 3._o endeavour_v still_o to_o keep_v thy_o conscience_n tender_a and_o sensible_a rather_o desire_v to_o be_v trouble_v with_o a_o seem_o peevish_a conscience_n that_o will_v check_v almost_o at_o any_o thing_n than_o to_o be_v at_o quiet_a with_o a_o dull_a and_o stupid_a conscience_n that_o will_v down_o with_o any_o thing_n it_o may_v be_v it_o will_v be_v somewhat_o troublesome_a but_o it_o be_v safe_a and_o thou_o shall_v find_v comfort_n in_o forbear_v of_o that_o which_o thy_o tender_a conscience_n wish_v thou_o to_o forego_v and_o be_v able_a abundant_o to_o satisfy_v that_o trouble_n which_o thou_o be_v put_v to_o by_o thy_o forbearance_n the_o conscience_n of_o thy_o integrity_n will_v be_v more_o satisfactory_a to_o thou_o than_o the_o curiosity_n of_o thy_o conscience_n will_v be_v troublesome_a and_o be_v very_o prudent_a and_o curious_a in_o thy_o disputation_n with_o thy_o conscience_n thou_o may_v before_o thou_o be_v aware_a dispute_v thy_o thing_n of_o itself_o indifferent_a yet_o over_o balance_v from_o its_o indifferency_n by_o the_o dictate_v of_o his_o conscience_n perform_v a_o work_n of_o obedience_n to_o god_n well_o near_o as_o acceptable_a as_o he_o that_o do_v a_o work_n of_o its_o own_o nature_n good_a for_o as_o much_o as_o the_o life_n and_o formality_n of_o any_o good_a work_n consist_v not_o so_o much_o in_o the_o nature_n of_o the_o thing_n that_o be_v do_v as_o in_o the_o reason_n or_o ground_n of_o the_o do_v it_o viz._n the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o that_o man_n that_o have_v endeavour_v to_o principle_n his_o conscience_n aright_o with_o the_o word_n of_o truth_n do_v honest_o and_o sincere_o follow_v the_o direction_n of_o it_o shall_v be_v sure_a not_o to_o err_v long_o or_o dangerous_o god_n have_v place_v the_o conscience_n in_o our_o breast_n as_o his_o own_o vicegerent_n look_v upon_o such_o a_o subjection_n to_o the_o conscience_n as_o a_o obedience_n to_o himself_o and_o his_o own_o some_o reason_n to_o bribe_v or_o quiet_a his_o conscience_n in_o the_o commission_n of_o it_o rather_o submit_v to_o the_o still_a voice_n of_o thy_o conscience_n in_o the_o restraint_n even_o of_o thy_o lawful_a liberty_n though_o it_o give_v thou_o not_o a_o reason_n for_o it_o than_o listen_v to_o the_o reason_n of_o thy_o heart_n for_o the_o allowance_n of_o it_o suspect_v she_o for_o she_o speak_v in_o she_o own_o cause_n and_o be_v partial_a and_o deceitful_a this_o on_o the_o one_o hand_n may_v be_v a_o safe_a rule_n for_o we_o touch_v stage-play_n long_a hair_n game_n usury_n etc._n question_n come_v in_o thy_o conscience_n touch_v a_o thing_n whether_o to_o be_v do_v or_o not_o and_o that_o upon_o the_o scrutiny_n of_o thy_o conscience_n it_o seem_v to_o be_v equal_o balance_v no_o rule_n to_o guide_v thou_o no_o circumstance_n that_o throw_v into_o the_o scale_n can_v take_v away_o the_o indifferency_n of_o either_o side_n it_o be_v a_o safe_a rule_n though_o not_o always_o necessary_a to_o forsake_v that_o which_o the_o inclination_n of_o thy_o own_o natural_a appetite_n most_o prompt_v thou_o to_o the_o reason_n be_v that_o which_o be_v before_o mention_v the_o heart_n be_v apt_a to_o magnify_v those_o argument_n that_o conduce_v to_o the_o execution_n of_o that_o which_o suit_v with_o thy_o sinful_a appetite_n and_o to_o lessen_v and_o slight_v those_o that_o make_v against_o it_o so_o that_o in_o a_o decision_n of_o indifferency_n in_o such_o a_o competition_n a_o man_n may_v in_o a_o more_o impartial_a judgement_n conclude_v the_o thing_n to_o be_v therefore_o not_o indifferent_a but_o sinful_a because_o thy_o sinful_a heart_n can_v but_o bring_v up_o what_o she_o love_v but_o to_o a_o equal_a balance_n thou_o must_v therefore_o in_o such_o a_o case_n never_o hold_v that_o gold_n passable_a which_o do_v not_o turn_v the_o scale_n 7._o as_o thus_o in_o the_o direct_v operation_n of_o thy_o conscience_n in_o thing_n to_o be_v do_v or_o not_o to_o be_v do_v so_o in_o the_o motion_n of_o thy_o conscience_n after_o the_o thing_n do_v or_o omit_v sometime_o the_o conscience_n be_v silent_a before_o the_o action_n yet_o she_o speak_v after_o and_o according_a to_o that_o language_n of_o thy_o conscience_n so_o let_v the_o affection_n of_o thy_o soul_n be_v if_o it_o approve_v and_o justify_v the_o thing_n do_v bless_v thy_o creator_n for_o the_o action_n and_o bless_v thy_o creator_n for_o thy_o conscience_n that_o he_o be_v please_v to_o give_v thou_o a_o reward_n within_o thyself_o of_o thy_o integrity_n if_o thy_o conscience_n blame_v thou_o though_o never_o so_o little_a despise_v not_o nor_o neglect_v this_o secret_a check_n it_o be_v a_o message_n from_o heaven_n that_o summon_v thou_o to_o these_o business_n of_o thy_o soul_n or_o if_o thou_o have_v who_o can_v tell_v whether_o that_o deceitful_a world_n which_o have_v rob_v thou_o of_o that_o time_n which_o be_v due_a to_o another_o business_n may_v not_o with_o much_o more_o ease_n harden_v thy_o heart_n and_o take_v up_o the_o whole_a time_n of_o thy_o life_n though_o thou_o shall_v live_v many_o age_n but_o if_o thou_o devote_v the_o first_o and_o choice_a of_o thy_o endeavour_n to_o thy_o great_a concernment_n grant_v that_o the_o residue_n of_o thy_o life_n be_v not_o sufficient_a for_o thy_o provision_n for_o thyself_o or_o man_n shall_v encroach_v upon_o those_o time_n which_o either_o by_o the_o command_n or_o dispensation_n of_o god_n or_o thy_o own_o voluntary_a consecration_n be_v dedicate_v to_o the_o service_n
