supper_n it_o may_v perhaps_o seem_v much_o to_o some_o that_o i_o shall_v be_v so_o solicitous_a about_o this_o ordinance_n and_o therefore_o for_o their_o satisfaction_n and_o the_o confirmation_n of_o the_o duty_n of_o sacrament-preparation_n i_o shall_v give_v account_n of_o it_o in_o the_o ensue_a reason_n first_o 1._o preparation_n to_o the_o lord_n supper_n be_v to_o be_v stand_v upon_o because_o it_o be_v very_o needful_a and_o suitable_a to_o the_o care_n of_o the_o church_n of_o god_n in_o ancient_a and_o pure_a time_n confirmation_n that_o they_o who_o have_v not_o at_o all_o as_o yet_o receive_v that_o sacrament_n shall_v give_v a_o account_n of_o their_o knowledge_n and_o faith_n before_o they_o receive_v it_o for_o though_o a_o necessary_a fundamental_a and_o more_o remote_a right_n thereunto_o be_v presuppose_v in_o their_o baptism_n yet_o because_o they_o themselves_o be_v then_o uncapable_a of_o make_v any_o promise_n and_o profession_n in_o their_o own_o person_n therefore_o their_o clear_a full_a and_o next_o right_n to_o partake_v in_o the_o lord_n supper_n arise_v from_o their_o declaration_n with_o their_o own_o mouth_n of_o their_o knowledge_n of_o consent_n unto_o and_o true_a purpose_n to_o perform_v what_o their_o baptism_n bind_v they_o unto_o or_o be_v then_o promise_v by_o other_o in_o their_o behalf_n without_o this_o though_o i_o grant_v it_o may_v be_v in_o several_a way_n require_v and_o perform_v how_o shall_v their_o fitness_n for_o this_o ordinance_n we_o speak_v of_o be_v discern_v or_o the_o church_n whereof_o they_o be_v member_n and_o with_o which_o they_o be_v to_o communicate_v be_v so_o well_o satisfy_v but_o in_o this_o it_o be_v learned_o and_o large_o speak_v to_o by_o other_o baxter_n i_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o move_v any_o further_o this_o only_a i_o add_v that_o for_o the_o help_n of_o the_o weak_a sort_n of_o those_o of_o who_o i_o here_o speak_v to_o give_v a_o reason_n of_o their_o faith_n and_o fitness_n for_o the_o lord_n table_n i_o have_v compose_v these_o ensue_a direction_n 2._o second_o another_o reason_n may_v be_v take_v from_o the_o weight_n that_o the_o scripture_n lay_v on_o this_o work_n of_o sacrament-preparation_n in_o 1_o cor._n 11.27_o 28_o 29_o 30._o where_o may_v be_v note_v first_o a_o precise_a precept_n for_o examination_n let_v a_o man_n examine_v and_o so_o and_o not_o otherwise_o let_v he_o eat_v of_o that_o bread_n and_o drink_v of_o that_o cup_n which_o show_v that_o a_o special_a &_o distinct_a preparation_n be_v require_v for_o that_o bread_n and_o that_o cup_n that_o be_v that_o distinct_a ordinance_n second_o this_o command_n be_v charge_v upon_o the_o conscience_n by_o lay_v before_o the_o unworthy_a communicant_a two_o heart-affecting_a and_o affright_a thing_n 1._o on_o the_o one_o side_n the_o great_a sin_n and_o the_o most_o horrible_a guilt_n for_o whosoever_o shall_v eat_v this_o bread_n and_o drink_v this_o cup_n of_o the_o eternal_a damnation_n without_o repentance_n and_o temporal_a judgement_n though_o that_o be_v prevent_v for_o this_o cause_n many_o be_v weak_a and_o sickly_a among_o you_o and_o many_o sleep_n thus_o be_v that_o great_a precept_n of_o examination_n before_o sacrament-participation_n environ_v as_o it_o be_v on_o both_o hand_n that_o it_o may_v be_v more_o effectual_o guard_v against_o all_o gainsayers_a urge_v on_o all_o communicant_n and_o observe_v by_o all_o christian_n to_o strike_v into_o their_o heart_n a_o reverence_n of_o that_o ordinance_n here_o i_o do_v not_o deny_v but_o
