to_o sin_n may_v be_v allure_a enough_o and_o look_v upon_o we_o with_o a_o smile_a countenance_n and_o the_o commission_n may_v afford_v we_o a_o short_a and_o imperfect_a pleasure_n but_o the_o remembrance_n of_o it_o will_v certain_o be_v bitter_a and_o the_o end_n of_o it_o miserable_a and_o this_o consideration_n be_v of_o all_o other_o the_o most_o apt_a to_o work_v upon_o the_o the_o great_a happiness_n and_o next_o to_o the_o actual_a sense_n of_o pain_n the_o fear_n of_o suffer_v be_v the_o great_a torment_n though_o there_o be_v nothing_o beyond_o this_o life_n to_o be_v expect_v yet_o if_o man_n be_v sure_a to_o be_v possess_v with_o these_o delightful_a or_o troublesome_a passion_n when_o they_o come_v to_o die_v no_o man_n that_o wise_o consider_v thing_n will_v for_o all_o the_o pleasure_n of_o sin_n forfeit_v the_o comfort_n of_o a_o righteous_a soul_n leave_v this_o world_n full_a of_o the_o hope_n of_o immortality_n and_o endure_v the_o vexation_n and_o glorious_a reward_n of_o a_o holy_a and_o virtuous_a life_n in_o another_o world_n which_o be_v here_o call_v everlasting_a life_n and_o the_o end_n everlasting_a life_n by_o which_o the_o apostle_n intend_v to_o express_v to_o we_o both_o the_o happiness_n of_o our_o future_a state_n and_o the_o way_n and_o means_n whereby_o we_o be_v prepare_v and_o make_v meet_v to_o be_v make_v partaker_n of_o it_o and_o that_o be_v by_o the_o constant_a and_o sincere_a endeavour_n of_o a_o holy_a and_o good_a life_n for_o it_o be_v they_o only_o that_o have_v their_o fruit_n unto_o holiness_n who_o end_n shall_v be_v everlasting_a life_n i_o shall_v speak_v brief_o to_o these_o two_o and_o so_o conclude_v my_o discourse_n upon_o this_o text._n i._o the_o happiness_n of_o our_o future_a state_n which_o be_v here_o express_v by_o the_o name_n of_o everlasting_a life_n in_o very_o few_o word_n but_o such_o as_o be_v of_o wonderful_a weight_n and_o significancy_n for_o they_o import_v the_o excellency_n of_o this_o state_n and_o the_o eternity_n of_o it_o and_o who_o be_v sufficient_a to_o speak_v to_o either_o of_o these_o argument_n both_o of_o they_o be_v too_o big_a to_o enter_v now_o into_o the_o heart_n of_o man_n too_o vast_a and_o boundless_a to_o be_v comprehend_v by_o humane_a understanding_n and_o too_o unwieldy_a to_o be_v manage_v by_o the_o tongue_n of_o man_n and_o angel_n answerable_o to_o the_o unspeakable_a greatness_n and_o glory_n of_o they_o and_o if_o i_o be_v able_a to_o declare_v they_o unto_o you_o as_o they_o deserve_v you_o will_v not_o be_v able_a to_o hear_v i_o and_o therefore_o i_o shall_v choose_v to_o say_v but_o little_a upon_o a_o argument_n of_o which_o i_o can_v never_o say_v enough_o and_o shall_v very_o brief_o consider_v those_o two_o thing_n which_o be_v comprehend_v in_o that_o short_a description_n which_o the_o text_n give_v we_o of_o our_o future_a happiness_n by_o the_o name_n of_o everlasting_a life_n viz._n the_o be_v but_o a_o dry_a notion_n of_o life_n the_o true_a notion_n of_o life_n be_v to_o be_v well_o and_o to_o be_v happy_a vivere_fw-la est_fw-la benè_fw-la valere_fw-la they_o who_o be_v in_o the_o most_o miserable_a condition_n that_o can_v be_v imagine_v be_v in_o be_v and_o sensible_a also_o that_o they_o be_v miserable_a but_o this_o kind_n of_o life_n be_v so_o far_o from_o come_v under_o the_o true_a notion_n of_o life_n that_o the_o scripture_n call_v it_o the_o second_o death_n revel_v 21.8_o it_o be_v there_o say_v that_o the_o wicked_a shall_v have_v their_o part_n in_o the_o lake_n that_o burn_v with_o fire_n and_o brimstone_n which_o be_v the_o second_o death_n and_o chap._n 20._o ver_fw-la 6._o bless_a and_o holy_a be_v he_o that_o have_v part_n in_o the_o first_o resurrection_n on_o such_o the_o second_o death_n shall_v have_v no_o power_n so_o that_o a_o state_n of_o mere_a misery_n and_o torment_n be_v not_o life_n but_o death_n nay_o the_o scripture_n be_v ingenuity_n because_o we_o be_v sensible_a that_o we_o have_v carry_v ourselves_o very_o unworthy_o towards_o god_n and_o have_v be_v injurious_a to_o he_o who_o have_v lay_v all_o possible_a obligation_n upon_o we_o for_o he_o have_v make_v we_o and_o have_v give_v we_o our_o being_n and_o have_v charge_v his_o watchful_a providence_n with_o the_o continual_a care_n of_o we_o his_o bounty_n have_v minister_v to_o the_o necessity_n and_o comfort_n of_o our_o life_n all_o the_o blessing_n that_o we_o enjoy_v be_v the_o effect_n of_o his_o mere_a love_n and_o goodness_n without_o sin_v against_o he_o who_o make_v we_o and_o continual_o preserve_v we_o and_o after_o all_o our_o unkindness_n to_o he_o do_v still_o retain_v so_o great_a a_o love_n for_o we_o as_o to_o redeem_v least_o sin_n be_v a_o just_a cause_n of_o the_o deep_a sorrow_n yet_o because_o our_o great_a grief_n can_v never_o bear_v a_o due_a proportion_n to_o the_o vast_a and_o infinite_a evil_n of_o sin_n god_n be_v please_v to_o require_v and_o accept_v such_o measure_n of_o sorrow_n as_o do_v not_o bear_v a_o exact_a correspondence_n to_o the_o malignity_n of_o sin_n provide_v they_o be_v according_a to_o the_o capacity_n of_o our_o nature_n and_o in_o some_o sort_n proportion_v to_o the_o degree_n and_o aggravation_n of_o our_o sin_n i._n e._n though_o the_o high_a degree_n of_o our_o sorrow_n do_v necessary_o fall_v below_o the_o evil_a of_o the_o least_o sin_n yet_o god_n require_v that_o we_o shall_v be_v more_o deep_o affect_v with_o some_o sin_n than_o other_o but_o what_o be_v the_o low_a degree_n which_o god_n require_v in_o a_o true_a penitent_n and_o will_v accept_v as_o it_o be_v impossible_a for_o i_o to_o tell_v so_o it_o be_v unprofitable_a for_o any_o body_n to_o know_v for_o no_o man_n can_v reasonable_o make_v this_o enquiry_n with_o any_o other_o design_n than_o that_o he_o may_v learn_v how_o he_o may_v come_v off_o with_o god_n upon_o the_o cheap_a and_o easy_a term_n now_o there_o can_v be_v a_o worse_a sign_n that_o a_o man_n be_v not_o true_o sensible_a of_o the_o great_a evil_n of_o sin_n than_o this_o that_o he_o desire_v to_o be_v trouble_v for_o it_o great_a our_o sin_n have_v be_v and_o the_o long_o we_o have_v continue_v and_o live_v in_o they_o they_o call_v for_o so_o much_o the_o great_a sorrow_n and_o deep_a humiliation_n from_o we_o for_o the_o reason_n of_o our_o saviour_n concern_v mary_n magdalene_n she_o love_v much_o because_o much_o be_v forgive_v she_o be_v proportionable_o true_a in_o this_o case_n those_o who_o have_v sin_v much_o shall_v sorrow_n the_o more_o and_o then_o we_o must_v take_v this_o caution_n along_o with_o we_o that_o if_o we_o will_v judge_v aright_o of_o the_o truth_n of_o our_o sorrow_n for_o sin_n we_o must_v not_o measure_v it_o so_o much_o by_o the_o degree_n of_o sensible_a trouble_n and_o affliction_n as_o by_o the_o rational_a effect_n of_o it_o which_o be_v hatred_n of_o sin_n and_o a_o fix_a purpose_n and_o resolution_n against_o it_o for_o the_o future_a for_o he_o be_v most_o true_o sorry_a for_o his_o miscarriage_n who_o look_v upon_o what_o he_o have_v do_v amiss_o with_o abhorrence_n and_o detestation_n of_o the_o thing_n and_o wish_v he_o have_v not_o do_v it_o and_o censure_n himself_o severe_o for_o it_o and_o thereupon_o resolve_v not_o to_o do_v the_o like_a but_o rather_o like_o brute_n creature_n which_o have_v no_o understanding_n and_o act_v only_o by_o a_o natural_a instinct_n without_o any_o consideration_n of_o the_o end_n of_o their_o action_n or_o of_o the_o mean_n conduce_v to_o it_o ii_o whether_o we_o consider_v it_o or_o not_o our_o latter_a end_n will_v come_v and_o all_o those_o dismal_a consequence_n of_o a_o sinful_a course_n which_o god_n have_v so_o plain_o threaten_v and_o our_o own_o conscience_n do_v so_o much_o dread_n will_v certain_o overtake_v we_o at_o last_o and_o we_o can_v by_o not_o think_v of_o these_o sincere_a repentance_n ii_o in_o what_o sense_n it_o be_v say_v that_o tyre_n and_o sidon_n will_v have_v repent_v iii_o what_o be_v mean_v by_o their_o will_v have_v repent_v long_o ago_o iu._n how_o repentance_n the_o reason_n of_o this_o doubt_n depend_v upon_o the_o different_a theory_n of_o divine_n about_o the_o sufficiency_n of_o grace_n accompany_v the_o outward_a mean_n of_o repentance_n and_o whether_o a_o irresistible_a degree_n of_o god_n grace_n be_v necessary_a to_o repentance_n for_o they_o who_o deny_v sufficient_a grace_n to_o accompany_v the_o outward_a mean_n of_o repentance_n and_o assert_v a_o irresistible_a degree_n of_o god_n grace_n necessary_a to_o repentance_n be_v force_v to_o say_v that_o our_o saviour_n here_o speak_v of_o a_o mere_a external_n repentance_n because_o if_o he_o speak_v of_o a_o inward_a and_o sincere_a repentance_n than_o it_o must_v be_v grant_v that_o sufficient_a inward_a grace_n do_v accompany_v the_o miracle_n that_o be_v wrought_v in_o chorazin_n and_o bethsaida_n to_o bring_v man_n to_o repentance_n because_o what_o be_v afford_v to_o they_o will_v have_v bring_v tyre_n and_o sidon_n to_o repentance_n and_o that_o which_o will_v have_v effect_v a_o thing_n can_v be_v deny_v to_o be_v sufficient_a so_o that_o unless_o our_o saviour_n here_o speak_v of_o a_o mere_a external_n repentance_n either_o the_o outward_a mean_n of_o repentance_n as_o preach_v and_o miracle_n must_v be_v grant_v to_o be_v sufficient_a to_o bring_v man_n to_o repentance_n without_o the_o inward_a operation_n of_o god_n grace_n upon_o the_o mind_n of_o man_n or_o else_o a_o sufficient_a degree_n of_o god_n grace_n must_v be_v acknowledge_v to_o accompany_v the_o outward_a mean_n of_o repentance_n again_o if_o a_o irresistible_a degree_n of_o grace_n be_v necessary_a to_o true_a repentance_n it_o be_v plain_a chorazin_n and_o bethsaida_n have_v it_o not_o because_o they_o do_v not_o repent_v and_o yet_o without_o this_o tire_n and_o sidon_n can_v not_o have_v sincere_o repent_v therefore_o our_o saviour_n here_o must_v speak_v of_o a_o mere_a external_n repentance_n thus_o some_o argue_n as_o they_o
