collect_v two_o thing_n for_o your_o information_n in_o this_o kind_n colect_v 1_o first_o that_o the_o believer_n be_v move_v by_o the_o stroke_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o the_o father_n be_v make_v leave_v the_o point_n to_o the_o judgement_n of_o those_o that_o hear_v it_o to_o incline_v to_o which_o side_n they_o think_v best_a and_o thus_o i_o shall_v wrong_v none_o at_o all_o first_o some_o spiritual_a habit_n or_o a_o spiritual_a power_n or_o a_o spiritual_a quality_n or_o ability_n take_v which_o you_o will_v leave_v upon_o the_o soul_n we_o will_v begin_v with_o the_o former_a touch_v the_o imputation_n of_o christ_n righteousness_n to_o a_o soul_n whereby_o the_o sinner_n come_v to_o be_v justify_v this_o be_v a_o point_n then_o which_o i_o take_v it_o none_o more_o necessary_a and_o yet_o none_o less_o understand_v none_o less_o study_v none_o more_o mistake_v than_o these_o two_o great_a work_n of_o justification_n and_o sanctification_n i_o speak_v it_o by_o experience_n christian_n aged_a and_o experience_v yet_o here_o they_o fail_v in_o the_o very_a catecheticall_a point_n and_o it_o drive_v many_o of_o our_o best_a divine_n to_o a_o stand_n we_o will_v open_v it_o christ_n undertake_v for_o sin_n say_v they_o then_o why_o shall_v a_o believer_n take_v sin_n to_o himself_o this_o be_v the_o curse_a opinion_n of_o the_o familist_n there_o be_v a_o unspeakable_a and_o a_o unmeasurable_a measure_n of_o comfort_n in_o this_o doctrine_n for_o all_o the_o people_n of_o god_n and_o the_o other_o suck_n as_o much_o poison_n from_o it_o i_o have_v bear_v a_o also_o that_o the_o poor_a sinner_n may_v not_o burden_n himself_o with_o needless_a â—eaâ—es_n nor_o with_o his_o sin_n more_o than_o god_n require_v suffer_v i_o to_o clear_v the_o doctrine_n by_o lay_v open_o two_o thing_n quest._n 1_o first_o how_o far_o a_o sinner_n may_v and_o aught_o to_o charge_v himself_o with_o his_o sin_n and_o how_o far_o hoe_v may_v go_v quest._n 2_o second_o how_o believer_n that_o have_v a_o interest_n a_fw-fr christ_n may_v charge_v himself_o with_o his_o sin_n answer_n i_o answer_v for_o the_o manner_n of_o it_o it_o shall_v appear_v in_o these_o particular_a rule_n or_o conclusion_n first_o every_o believer_n under_o heaven_n both_o the_o weak_a and_o the_o strong_a even_o he_o that_o have_v the_o strong_a measure_n of_o grace_n be_v bind_v to_o this_o to_o the_o uttermost_a of_o his_o power_n to_o see_v and_o examine_v the_o sinful_a carriage_n of_o his_o soul_n whether_o distemper_n inward_o or_o ungodly_a practice_n outward_o he_o be_v bind_v to_o consider_v of_o they_o and_o to_o judge_v of_o these_o his_o sin_n and_o every_o of_o they_o know_v that_o even_o the_o least_o of_o they_o be_v sufficient_a to_o make_v he_o guilty_a of_o eternal_a death_n and_o to_o bring_v condemnation_n upon_o he_o as_o he_o must_v see_v what_o his_o sin_n be_v so_o he_o must_v judge_v that_o it_o have_v the_o power_n to_o make_v he_o guilty_a and_o also_o to_o condemn_v he_o shall_v not_o the_o lord_n by_o the_o power_n of_o his_o grace_n prevent_v it_o every_o sin_n in_o his_o own_o nature_n and_o power_n do_v and_o will_v procure_v guilt_n and_o condemnation_n to_o the_o soul_n by_o the_o sin_n commit_v unless_o the_o lord_n in_o mercy_n do_v prevent_v it_o and_o christ_n by_o the_o power_n of_o his_o merit_n stop_v the_o power_n and_o condemnation_n of_o sin_n as_o the_o apostle_n say_v rom._n 1.31_o which_o man_n though_o they_o know_v the_o law_n of_o god_n how_o that_o they_o which_o do_v these_o thing_n be_v worthy_a of_o death_n that_o be_v that_o in_o the_o least_o sin_n which_o a_o man_n commit_v there_o be_v a_o fitness_n in_o it_o to_o make_v a_o man_n guilty_a and_o it_o have_v a_o power_n to_o condemn_v he_o unless_o the_o lord_n do_v marvellous_a gracious_o stop_v the_o power_n of_o corruption_n as_o the_o text_n say_v the_o repent_a church_n shall_v judge_v themselves_o worthy_a to_o be_v condemn_v every_o sinner_n may_v say_v of_o every_o sin_n he_o commit_v that_o there_o be_v enough_o in_o it_o to_o damn_v he_o if_o god_n shall_v deal_v with_o he_o after_o his_o own_o deserve_n if_o i_o shall_v be_v leave_v to_o the_o power_n of_o my_o pride_n and_o malice_n &_o hatred_n &_o dead_a heartednes_n it_o be_v enough_o to_o condemn_v i_o for_o ever_o the_o wife_n physician_n that_o see_v his_o patient_n be_v in_o a_o pleurisy_n will_v say_v here_o be_v enough_o in_o this_o man_n to_o kill_v he_o if_o i_o shall_v neglect_v he_o but_o a_o few_o day_n it_o will_v kill_v he_o but_o now_o if_o the_o physician_n let_v he_o blood_n he_o stop_v the_o power_n of_o it_o that_o so_o the_o corrupt_a blood_n can_v bring_v death_n upon_o he_o so_o every_o sin_n that_o a_o man_n commit_v both_o the_o distemper_n of_o the_o heart_n inward_o and_o the_o abuse_n of_o the_o mean_n of_o grace_n and_o the_o practice_n of_o sin_n outward_o there_o be_v enough_o in_o that_o pleurisy_n of_o sin_n to_o take_v away_o a_o man_n comfort_n and_o happiness_n unless_o the_o lord_n be_v please_v to_o hinder_v the_o condemn_a power_n of_o they_o that_o they_o can_v hurt_v we_o therefore_o the_o sum_n of_o all_o be_v this_o as_o every_o believer_n must_v examine_v his_o own_o heart_n and_o life_n so_o he_o must_v judge_v the_o nature_n of_o sin_n and_o judge_v himself_o worthy_a to_o be_v condemn_v 1_o cor._n 11.31_o if_o we_o will_v judge_v ourselves_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v judge_v that_o be_v if_o we_o condemn_v ourselves_o and_o judge_v ourselves_o worthy_a to_o be_v condemn_v for_o they_o i_o say_v not_o that_o a_o man_n shall_v say_v that_o the_o lord_n will_v condemn_v he_o but_o that_o he_o be_v worthy_a to_o be_v condemn_v for_o they_o and_o he_o deserve_v their_o evil_a way_n say_v the_o text_n and_o be_v ashamed_a and_o never_o open_v their_o mouth_n more_o when_o i_o be_o pacify_v towards_o thou_o for_o all_o that_o thou_o have_v do_v though_o god_n have_v accept_v of_o a_o poor_a believer_n yet_o he_o must_v see_v his_o sin_n and_o lay_v his_o mouth_n in_o the_o dust_n and_o never_o prank_n up_o his_o heart_n more_o but_o walk_v humble_o before_o the_o lord_n and_o though_o he_o be_v accept_v and_o pardon_v yet_o he_o shall_v judge_v himself_o worthy_a to_o be_v condemn_v this_o be_v the_o first_o conclusion_n second_o every_o believe_a soul_n justify_v and_o have_v a_o interest_n in_o christ_n ought_v thus_o far_o to_o acknowledge_v his_o sin_n as_o that_o it_o be_v righteous_a with_o the_o lord_n to_o execute_v his_o wrath_n
so_o second_o some_o again_o be_v malicious_o massacre_v with_o dishonourable_a cruelty_n they_o be_v pull_v the_o flesh_n from_o the_o bone_n and_o burn_v to_o ash_n etc._n etc._n none_o of_o all_o these_o do_v fall_v to_o our_o saviour_n these_o be_v personal_a thing_n they_o belong_v not_o to_o the_o nature_n of_o man_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v no_o way_n requisite_a that_o christ_n shall_v undergo_v those_o kind_n of_o death_n mark_v these_o two_o passage_n to_o open_v it_o a_o little_a act_v 2.27_o quote_v out_o of_o psalm_n 16.10_o thou_o will_v not_o leave_v my_o soul_n in_o hell_n neither_o will_v thou_o suffer_v thy_o holy_a one_o to_o see_v corruption_n now_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n do_v see_v corruption_n but_o this_o be_v a_o dishonourable_a infirmity_n for_o christ_n unbeliever_n be_v but_o the_o very_a beginning_n of_o all_o their_o other_o plague_n they_o sip_v of_o god_n vengeance_n now_o but_o they_o shall_v have_v the_o full_a cup_n then_o sin_n in_o they_o child_n or_o infant_n new_o bear_v and_o lay_v it_o in_o a_o little_a stream_n if_o no_o man_n come_v to_o succour_v it_o there_o can_v be_v no_o hope_n that_o it_o will_v live_v not_o proper_o because_o of_o the_o water_n but_o because_o the_o child_n be_v weak_a and_o not_o able_a to_o keep_v itself_o from_o be_v overpowr_v by_o the_o water_n and_o therefore_o there_o be_v no_o hope_n to_o have_v relief_n for_o it_o but_o let_v a_o strong_a man_n come_v and_o he_o will_v not_o be_v drown_v by_o the_o stream_n for_o he_o be_v of_o height_n and_o strength_n either_o to_o wade_v through_o it_o or_o else_o to_o save_v himself_o by_o swim_v so_o there_o be_v the_o stream_n of_o the_o indignation_n of_o the_o lord_n now_o god_n will_v not_o help_v a_o poor_a sinful_a creature_n and_o he_o can_v help_v himself_o therefore_o the_o stream_n will_v destroy_v he_o and_o there_o be_v no_o hope_n for_o he_o be_v never_o able_a to_o free_v himself_o because_o god_n will_v not_o and_o he_o himself_o can_v but_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n that_o have_v skill_n and_o power_n because_o he_o be_v god_n as_o well_o as_o man_n therefore_o though_o he_o bear_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n yet_o because_o he_o be_v able_a to_o wade_v through_o it_o and_o to_o bear_v it_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o he_o will_v deliver_v himself_o and_o all_o we_o with_o he_o thus_o you_o see_v that_o that_o may_v be_v alter_v and_o change_v as_o the_o debt_n or_o punishment_n be_v full_o suffer_v or_o not_o suffer_v as_o for_o example_n the_o time_n of_o a_o man_n lie_v in_o prison_n be_v no_o part_n of_o the_o payment_n but_o he_o do_v lie_v in_o prison_n because_o he_o can_v pay_v the_o debt_n as_o thus_o a_o man_n be_v in_o prison_n for_o a_o thousand_o pound_n &_o he_o must_v lie_v in_o prison_n ten_o year_n because_o he_o can_v pay_v but_o a_o hundred_o pound_n a_o year_n but_o now_o let_v a_o rich_a man_n come_v that_o can_v discharge_v the_o payment_n within_o ten_o month_n or_o ten_o day_n or_o ten_o hour_n it_o be_v as_o well_o if_o he_o do_v it_o in_o ten_o hour_n as_o if_o he_o do_v it_o in_o ten_o year_n nay_o it_o be_v better_a do_v just_o so_o it_o be_v here_o the_o debt_n be_v this_o in_o the_o day_n that_o thou_o eat_v thereof_o thou_o shall_v die_v the_o death_n the_o punishment_n be_v death_n and_o every_o poor_a creature_n must_v die_v the_o first_o and_o second_o death_n now_o because_o a_o poor_a creature_n can_v satisfy_v god_n justice_n 〈◊〉_d this_o life_n for_o if_o god_n shall_v but_o let_v in_o the_o power_n of_o his_o wrath_n in_o this_o life_n into_o the_o soul_n and_o fill_v the_o soul_n with_o his_o fierce_a indignation_n it_o will_v kill_v a_o man_n even_o in_o this_o life_n therefore_o the_o lord_n by_o death_n take_v away_o a_o poor_a between_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n the_o father_n and_o the_o faithful_a justice_n say_v that_o foul_a have_v sin_v and_o must_v be_v damn_v and_o anger_n say_v i_o must_v break_v out_o against_o that_o poor_a soul_n then_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n step_v in_o and_o say_v i_o will_v bear_v all_o and_o undertake_v the_o satisfy_n of_o all_o i_o will_v bear_v all_o those_o punishment_n due_a unto_o they_o you_o that_o be_v believer_n and_o have_v a_o share_n in_o christ_n unto_o you_o i_o speak_v labour_v thou_o from_o hence_o to_o see_v the_o heinousness_n of_o sin_n and_o to_o hate_v it_o because_o it_o have_v bring_v all_o this_o evil_a upon_o thy_o saviour_n and_o will_v have_v bring_v the_o same_o upon_o thou_o have_v not_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n step_v in_o between_o thou_o and_o the_o wrath_n of_o the_o father_n oh_o look_v what_o thy_o sin_n have_v do_v unto_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o see_v if_o you_o can_v love_v it_o &_o take_v contentment_n in_o the_o commission_n of_o it_o let_v i_o teach_v you_o how_o to_o do_v it_o send_v your_o thought_n afar_o off_o and_o see_v our_o saviour_n in_o the_o garden_n cry_v out_o and_o creature_n and_o make_v it_o to_o receive_v some_o impression_n of_o that_o good_a which_o he_o keep_v secret_o in_o himself_o there_o be_v some_o action_n which_o remain_v in_o god_n as_o the_o decree_n and_o purpose_n of_o god_n before_o the_o foundation_n of_o the_o world_n and_o they_o be_v confine_v within_o the_o high_a council_n table_n of_o heaven_n father_n son_n and_o holy_a ghost_n and_o these_o never_o appear_v to_o the_o eye_n of_o the_o world_n second_o there_o be_v action_n also_o which_o pass_v from_o god_n upon_o the_o creature_n and_o do_v work_v a_o change_n and_o a_o alteration_n upon_o the_o creature_n and_o these_o we_o call_v transient_a action_n or_o action_n that_o pass_v which_o be_v not_o only_o in_o god_n but_o pass_v from_o god_n and_o do_v frame_v and_o order_n and_o dispose_v of_o the_o creature_n as_o god_n see_v fit_a and_o of_o this_o sort_n be_v all_o the_o action_n that_o belong_v to_o a_o christian_a except_o predestination_n for_o the_o thing_n be_v become_v new_a new_a affection_n new_a desire_n but_o this_o be_v not_o all_o for_o here_o be_v the_o difficulty_n second_o the_o lord_n be_v say_v to_o make_v a_o change_n upon_o the_o creature_n when_o he_o take_v off_o some_o relation_n and_o respect_n which_o the_o creature_n have_v and_o put_v upon_o it_o some_o other_o respect_n he_o do_v not_o put_v they_o into_o the_o soul_n but_o put_v the_o soul_n into_o another_o room_n and_o they_o be_v not_o natural_o quality_n but_o only_a relation_n which_o be_v imprint_v upon_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n and_o these_o be_v call_v moral_a and_o of_o this_o kind_n be_v justification_n as_o thus_o take_v a_o apprentice_n that_o be_v bind_v by_o covenant_n and_o indenture_n for_o so_o many_o year_n and_o he_o be_v now_o fall_v into_o a_o ague_n or_o a_o burn_a fever_n he_o have_v two_o relation_n first_o he_o be_v a_o apprentice_n second_o he_o have_v a_o weak_a sickly_a distemper_a body_n now_o there_o may_v be_v a_o double_a change_n wrought_v in_o this_o man_n according_a to_o this_o double_a disposition_n first_o the_o master_n burn_v the_o indenture_n and_o give_v he_o his_o time_n and_o set_v he_o free_a from_o his_o service_n and_o he_o that_o be_v a_o apprentice_n before_o be_v now_o a_o freeman_n this_o be_v a_o moral_a change_n for_o all_o this_o while_n he_o be_v as_o sick_a as_o he_o be_v before_o but_o the_o former_a relation_n be_v quite_o go_v and_o the_o master_n can_v now_o command_v he_o to_o his_o service_n now_o the_o fellow_n servant_n can_v domineer_v over_o he_o because_o he_o be_v not_o now_o a_o servant_n but_o now_o the_o wise_a physician_n he_o come_v and_o he_o by_o good_a mean_n help_v the_o man_n of_o his_o disease_n and_o bring_v he_o to_o a_o fair_a sweet_a before_o hot_a but_o now_o fine_o cool_v here_o be_v something_o wrought_v in_o the_o nature_n of_o this_o man_n just_o so_o it_o be_v in_o this_o change_n of_o the_o soul_n there_o be_v a_o moral_a change_n in_o justification_n a_o man_n be_v bind_v to_o the_o law_n and_o liable_a to_o the_o penalty_n of_o it_o and_o guilty_a of_o the_o breach_n of_o it_o now_o god_n the_o father_n in_o jesus_n christ_n acquit_v a_o man_n of_o this_o guilt_n and_o deliver_v he_o from_o this_o revenge_a power_n of_o the_o law_n and_o that_o be_v not_o all_o but_o withal_o he_o put_v holiness_n into_o the_o heart_n and_o wisdom_n into_o the_o mind_n and_o purity_n into_o the_o affection_n &_o this_o be_v call_v a_o natural_a change_n because_o there_o be_v new_a spiritual_a ability_n put_v into_o the_o heart_n not_o because_o of_o the_o nature_n of_o it_o but_o because_o of_o the_o thing_n which_o it_o work_v as_o to_o take_v the_o example_n of_o scripture_n 1_o john_n 3.14_o we_o be_v translate_v from_o death_n to_o life_n as_o it_o be_v with_o a_o man_n take_v prisoner_n in_o turkey_n or_o some_o other_o place_n haply_o a_o christian_n of_o england_n he_o be_v account_v a_o traitor_n there_o and_o be_v condemn_v as_o a_o traitor_n the_o man_n be_v weak_a of_o himself_o and_o not_o able_a to_o deliver_v himself_o he_o must_v be_v deal_v by_o as_o a_o traitor_n but_o now_o if_o this_o man_n be_v rescue_v and_o find_v some_o way_n of_o escape_n and_o be_v set_v upon_o some_o other_o shore_n whereby_o he_o may_v be_v convey_v
that_o happiness_n and_o glory_n which_o heretofore_o have_v be_v expect_v and_o christ_n have_v promise_v now_o it_o shall_v be_v attain_v the_o time_n now_o come_v when_o the_o saint_n of_o god_n shall_v have_v no_o more_o tear_n in_o their_o eye_n nor_o sin_n in_o their_o soul_n not_o sorrow_n in_o their_o heart_n when_o they_o die_v than_o their_o sin_n and_o sorrow_n die_v too_o you_o shall_v never_o be_v dead_a heart_a more_o than_o you_o shall_v have_v holiness_n in_o full_a possession_n which_o so_o long_a time_n you_o have_v long_v for_o it_o be_v now_o only_o in_o shall_v be_v save_v these_o be_v his_o token_n and_o i_o hope_v you_o will_v lay_v they_o up_o by_o you_o &_o make_v much_o of_o they_o but_o when_o will_v the_o time_n come_v that_o i_o may_v enjoy_v drunkard_n shall_v not_o then_o be_v drink_v the_o blasphemer_n shall_v not_o then_o blaspheme_v so_o as_o he_o be_v wont_a to_o do_v for_o nothing_o but_o he_o shall_v be_v and_o blaspheme_v god_n for_o something_o and_o his_o soul_n shall_v be_v full_a of_o god_n vengeance_n this_o be_v the_o death_n of_o the_o wicked_a the_o death_n of_o the_o saint_n be_v like_o a_o ferryman_n to_o convey_v of_o the_o former_a part_n of_o the_o answer_n namely_o that_o our_o saviour_n suffer_v the_o death_n natural_a now_o our_o saviour_n do_v not_o only_o suffer_v in_o his_o body_n but_o he_o suffer_v in_o his_o soul_n also_o you_o may_v conceive_v of_o it_o in_o two_o particular_n first_o there_o be_v a_o real_a withdraw_n of_o the_o sense_n and_o feel_n of_o the_o mercy_n and_o compassion_n of_o god_n a_o stoppage_n as_o i_o may_v say_v and_o a_o take_n off_o the_o sweet_a operation_n of_o god_n love_n and_o favour_n from_o the_o soul_n when_o that_o sensible_a refresh_n and_o conveyance_n of_o the_o mercy_n and_o kindness_n of_o god_n countenance_n be_v turn_v away_o from_o the_o soul_n this_o be_v a_o part_n of_o the_o second_o death_n and_o this_o be_v the_o pain_n of_o loss_n that_o be_v the_o poor_a sinner_n lose_v that_o sweet_a influence_n of_o that_o abundant_a mercy_n and_o compassion_n and_o that_o sweetness_n that_o be_v in_o all_o those_o glorious_a attribute_n which_o shall_v fill_v the_o soul_n with_o satisfactory_a sweetness_n and_o content_n as_o thus_o sometime_o it_o please_v god_n to_o discover_v those_o pain_n of_o hell_n unto_o his_o servant_n here_o on_o earth_n and_o he_o bring_v they_o by_o the_o suburb_n of_o hell_n that_o they_o may_v know_v what_o it_o be_v to_o be_v in_o heaven_n and_o also_o what_o it_o be_v to_o commit_v sin_n so_o against_o a_o gracious_a god_n psalm_n 31.22_o i_o say_v in_o my_o haste_n i_o be_o cast_v out_o of_o sight_n as_o if_o he_o have_v say_v god_n have_v take_v away_o the_o sweet_a smile_n of_o his_o the_o question_n in_o these_o conclusion_n one_o will_v make_v way_n for_o another_o only_o here_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o thus_o much_o that_o i_o mean_v only_o to_o make_v declaration_n of_o the_o truth_n of_o the_o point_n and_o the_o argument_n shall_v be_v afterward_o first_o it_o be_v possible_a that_o some_o pain_n of_o hell_n may_v be_v suffer_v in_o this_o life_n and_o therefore_o the_o live_n and_o be_v of_o our_o saviour_n in_o this_o life_n be_v no_o hindrance_n but_o that_o he_o may_v undergo_v they_o this_o i_o say_v to_o prevent_v a_o weak_a plea_n of_o some_o that_o desire_v to_o tie_v and_o entail_v all_o the_o pain_n of_o hell_n to_o another_o life_n and_o the_o place_n to_o be_v hell_n and_o they_o think_v that_o
his_o body_n then_o do_v can_v it_o be_v possible_a that_o man_n shall_v harbour_v sin_n in_o they_o if_o they_o do_v but_o know_v what_o it_o have_v do_v to_o they_o can_v you_o see_v it_o and_o not_o haâ—e_v it_o oh_o behold_v that_o sin_n which_o have_v cause_v god_n the_o father_n to_o be_v angry_a with_o thy_o saviour_n and_o do_v thou_o hate_v it_o and_o let_v thy_o soul_n for_o ever_o loath_a thy_o sin_n which_o have_v cause_v christ_n thus_o to_o do_v to_o come_v down_o from_o heaven_n and_o to_o be_v torture_v by_o wicked_a miscreant_n and_o to_o cry_v out_o my_o god_n my_o god_n why_o have_v thou_o forsake_v i_o and_o as_o sin_n have_v cause_v god_n the_o father_n to_o punish_v thy_o saviour_n so_o go_v thou_o and_o be_v revenge_v upon_o thy_o sin_n and_o say_v oh_o my_o pride_n and_o my_o stubbornness_n and_o my_o looseness_n and_o uncleanness_n and_o base_a drunkenness_n these_o be_v the_o nail_n that_o pierce_v his_o hand_n aâ—â—_n his_o foot_n they_o pierce_v his_o sacred_a body_n and_o 〈◊〉_d the_o wrath_n of_o god_n the_o father_n upon_o his_o soul_n therefore_o let_v i_o be_v for_o ever_o revenge_v of_o this_o proud_a stubborn_a and_o rebellious_a heart_n of_o i_o and_o let_v i_o for_o ever_o loath_a my_o sin_n because_o it_o bring_v all_o this_o sorrow_n upon_o my_o saviour_n to_o press_v this_o use_n a_o little_a more_o i_o charge_v you_o brethren_n as_o ever_o you_o have_v any_o tender_a love_n unto_o jesus_n christ_n or_o any_o regard_n of_o your_o own_o comfort_n go_v your_o way_n and_o be_v for_o ever_o cast_v down_o and_o humble_v for_o those_o evil_a way_n of_o you_o which_o have_v bring_v our_o saviour_n to_o such_o a_o gulf_n of_o misery_n and_o to_o be_v angry_a with_o those_o sin_n that_o have_v make_v god_n the_o father_n angry_a with_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o take_v thou_o revenge_v upon_o that_o proud_a stubborn_a heart_n that_o bring_v all_o this_o misery_n upon_o thy_o saviour_n this_o be_v the_o course_n of_o humanity_n among_o man_n if_o a_o man_n know_v of_o any_o one_o which_o have_v murder_v his_o father_n or_o his_o friend_n who_o he_o high_o regard_v and_o honour_v nature_n show_v we_o thus_o much_o that_o our_o heart_n will_v rise_v against_o the_o man_n and_o you_o will_v not_o be_v able_a to_o brook_v the_o sight_n of_o he_o and_o you_o can_v endure_v to_o see_v he_o in_o your_o company_n and_o if_o law_n and_o conscience_n do_v not_o forbid_v it_o you_o can_v be_v content_v to_o give_v he_o his_o death_n wound_n and_o to_o be_v his_o bane_n and_o you_o will_v cry_v out_o against_o he_o oh_o he_o have_v murder_v my_o father_n or_o my_o dear_a friend_n and_o though_o you_o will_v not_o run_v upon_o he_o and_o kill_v he_o yet_o this_o every_o one_o will_v do_v he_o will_v follow_v the_o law_n to_o the_o uttermost_a and_o if_o all_o the_o law_n in_o the_o land_n will_v do_v it_o he_o will_v have_v he_o hang_v and_o if_o he_o may_v have_v it_o put_v to_o his_o choice_n what_o death_n he_o shall_v die_v he_o will_v choose_v he_o a_o death_n as_o bad_a as_o he_o can_v devise_v and_o if_o he_o may_v be_v his_o executioner_n how_o will_v he_o mangle_v he_o and_o say_v thou_o be_v the_o death_n of_o my_o father_n and_o then_o he_o will_v give_v he_o one_o blow_n for_o this_o and_o another_o blow_n for_o that_o and_o say_v thou_o wretch_n thou_o have_v take_v away_o the_o life_n of_o my_o father_n and_o i_o will_v have_v thy_o life_n now_o be_v a_o man_n thus_o enrage_v and_o be_v the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n carry_v with_o such_o violence_n unto_o he_o that_o have_v murder_v his_o father_n or_o his_o friend_n and_o that_o for_o the_o loss_n of_o the_o natural_a life_n oh_o then_o how_o shall_v your_o heart_n be_v transport_v with_o infinite_a indignation_n not_o against_o the_o man_n but_o even_o against_o the_o sin_n which_o be_v the_o cause_n of_o all_o this_o and_o which_o be_v whole_o opposite_a against_o god_n and_o not_o only_o because_o it_o have_v take_v away_o the_o life_n of_o the_o body_n of_o our_o saviour_n but_o also_o make_v he_o undergo_v the_o wrath_n of_o a_o everlasting_a father_n your_o sin_n be_v they_o that_o have_v thus_o slay_v the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n the_o lord_n of_o life_n therefore_o follow_v thou_o the_o law_n against_o these_o sin_n and_o raise_v hue_n and_o cry_n after_o they_o and_o bring_v they_o to_o the_o session_n and_o set_v they_o before_o the_o tribunal_n of_o god_n and_o cry_v justice_n lord_n justice_n against_o these_o sin_n of_o i_o these_o slay_v my_o saviour_n lord_n slay_v they_o they_o have_v crucify_v my_o saviour_n lord_n crucify_v they_o let_v i_o have_v life_n for_o life_n body_n for_o body_n and_o soul_n for_o soul_n these_o be_v the_o sin_n that_o have_v take_v away_o the_o life_n from_o the_o body_n of_o our_o saviour_n and_o take_v away_o all_o comfort_n from_o his_o soul_n lord_n take_v away_o their_o life_n thus_o pursue_v thy_o sin_n and_o never_o leave_v they_o until_o thou_o see_v they_o bleed_v their_o last_o never_o think_v that_o thou_o have_v power_n enough_o against_o corruption_n nor_o never_o think_v that_o thou_o do_v enough_o against_o they_o but_o give_v thy_o corruption_n one_o hack_v more_o and_o confess_v thy_o sin_n once_o more_o and_o say_v lord_n his_o pride_n and_o this_o stubbornness_n lord_n and_o this_o looseness_n of_o heart_n lord_n these_o be_v they_o that_o kill_v my_o saviour_n and_o i_o will_v be_v revenge_v of_o they_o and_o herein_o consider_v this_o when_o your_o heart_n be_v incline_v to_o any_o corruption_n or_o to_o any_o temptation_n of_o satan_n and_o when_o thou_o find_v thy_o soul_n draw_v aside_o to_o any_o sin_n and_o when_o thou_o find_v some_o tempt_n unto_o corruption_n and_o stir_n of_o curse_a lust_n it_o be_v good_a then_o to_o have_v a_o actual_a consideration_n of_o what_o sin_n have_v do_v to_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o reason_n thus_o with_o thyself_o and_o say_v these_o sin_n be_v the_o death_n of_o my_o saviour_n and_o shall_v they_o be_v my_o delight_n these_o sin_n do_v pierce_v his_o hand_n and_o wound_v his_o soul_n and_o shall_v they_o give_v contentment_n to_o my_o soul_n the_o lord_n forbid_v do_v these_o sin_n pluck_v tear_n from_o his_o eye_n and_o blood_n from_o his_o heart_n and_o shall_v i_o make_v they_o the_o delight_n of_o my_o heart_n the_o good_a lord_n in_o mercy_n forbid_v it_o be_v it_o so_o that_o our_o heart_n be_v full_o and_o thorough_o persuade_v that_o all_o the_o vanity_n of_o our_o mind_n and_o all_o the_o lust_n of_o our_o heart_n and_o all_o the_o distemper_n of_o our_o affection_n be_v those_o that_o stab_v the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o wound_v he_o to_o the_o heart_n it_o can_v not_o be_v that_o we_o shall_v so_o delight_v in_o they_o and_o lavish_a out_o our_o soul_n and_o affection_n thereupon_o nay_o not_o only_a christianity_n will_v do_v it_o but_o nature_n and_o reason_n will_v even_o compel_v a_o man_n to_o do_v the_o contrary_a can_v he_o but_o reason_n thus_o with_o himself_o when_o corruption_n tempt_v he_o and_o occasion_n call_v he_o and_o say_v thus_o with_o himself_o be_v it_o not_o enough_o and_o more_o than_o enough_o that_o the_o son_n of_o god_n come_v down_o from_o heaven_n and_o suffer_v such_o grievous_a pain_n but_o shall_v i_o again_o crucify_v the_o lord_n of_o life_n and_o shall_v i_o again_o pierce_v those_o bless_a hand_n of_o he_o and_o pierce_v that_o bless_a side_n of_o he_o and_o all_o gore_n his_o sacred_a body_n with_o my_o unclean_a sin_n and_o force_v he_o to_o cry_v out_o again_o by_o reason_n of_o my_o sin_n which_o i_o have_v commit_v this_o be_v more_o than_o brutish_a and_o more_o than_o savage_a i_o beseech_v you_o in_o the_o bowel_n of_o the_o lord_n to_o consider_v well_o of_o it_o you_o know_v what_o christ_n say_v when_o saul_n persecute_v the_o poor_a saint_n at_o damascus_n saul_n saul_n why_o persecure_a thou_o i_o it_o pierce_v the_o lord_n christ_n when_o any_o of_o his_o member_n be_v pierce_v act_v 9.4_o but_o now_o for_o such_o as_o believe_v in_o christ_n and_o look_v for_o mercy_n from_o christ_n consider_v how_o near_o it_o will_v touch_v he_o and_o trouble_v he_o not_o only_o to_o have_v his_o member_n pierce_v and_o persecute_v but_o also_o to_o have_v his_o good_a spirit_n grieve_v and_o himself_o to_o be_v wound_v imagine_v you_o hear_v the_o lord_n speak_v as_o the_o church_n do_v in_o lamentation_n 1.12_o be_v it_o nothing_o to_o you_o all_o oh_o you_o that_o pass_v by_o be_v there_o any_o sorrow_n like_a unto_o my_o sorrow_n have_v you_o no_o compassion_n at_o all_o upon_o a_o saviour_n
what_o will_v you_o spit_v in_o my_o face_n what_o you_o what_o and_o to_o a_o saviour_n too_o and_o will_v you_o pierce_v my_o soul_n by_o the_o corruption_n of_o your_o heart_n and_o by_o the_o action_n of_o your_o hand_n thus_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n persuade_v you_o to_o see_v sin_n and_o to_o abhor_v and_o 〈◊〉_d it_o upon_o all_o occasion_n and_o therefore_o let_v we_o answer_v the_o request_n of_o our_o saviour_n and_o not_o show_v ourselves_o desperate_o wicked_a to_o pierce_v he_o again_o and_o to_o renew_v his_o suffering_n use_v 2_o in_o the_o second_o place_n do_v our_o saviour_n suffer_v these_o pain_n then_o see_v here_o the_o strictness_n of_o god_n justice_n oh_o that_o exact_a precise_a severity_n of_o god_n proceed_n without_o exception_n of_o any_o man_n person_n god_n put_v no_o difference_n although_o he_o be_v his_o son_n but_o he_o lay_v punishment_n upon_o he_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o that_o exact_a deal_n of_o god_n in_o rom._n 2.9_o tribulation_n and_o anguish_n shall_v be_v upon_o the_o soul_n of_o every_o one_o that_o sin_v and_o why_o 〈◊〉_d god_n be_v no_o respecter_n of_o person_n as_o verse_n 11._o that_o the_o ground_n of_o it_o and_o it_o be_v not_o only_o express_v but_o it_o 〈◊〉_d also_o prove_v undeniable_a rom._n 11.22_o behold_v therefore_o the_o bounty_n and_o severity_n of_o god_n towards_o they_o which_o have_v fall_v severity_n but_o towards_o that_o bountifulness_n remember_v god_n just_a proceed_n against_o the_o jew_n and_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o the_o apostle_n cit_v all_o the_o proceed_n of_o god_n judgement_n not_o only_o against_o the_o heathen_n that_o never_o know_v he_o or_o his_o enemy_n that_o always_o oppose_v he_o but_o even_o to_o his_o friend_n such_o as_o he_o have_v show_v much_o favour_n and_o mercy_n to_o if_o they_o sin_n they_o shall_v be_v destroy_v for_o their_o sin_n but_o oh_o the_o just_a exactness_n of_o the_o justice_n of_o the_o lord_n how_o severe_o just_a he_o be_v for_o this_o exactness_n be_v not_o only_o upon_o the_o wicked_a and_o open_a profane_a but_o upon_o his_o own_o dear_a child_n and_o they_o that_o have_v have_v his_o ordinance_n as_o in_o amos_n the_o prophet_n show_v what_o favour_n they_o have_v receive_v in_o regard_n of_o the_o mean_n but_o yet_o feel_v how_o severe_o the_o lord_n punish_v they_o but_o he_o hold_v the_o miracle_n of_o justice_n in_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n his_o only_a son_n in_o who_o his_o soul_n delight_v our_o saviour_n that_o have_v but_o the_o shadow_n of_o sin_n have_v all_o punishment_n lay_v upon_o he_o in_o thick_a 〈◊〉_d now_o answer_v i_o whether_o god_n the_o father_n be_v not_o a_o strict_a god_n or_o no_o and_o a_o just_a and_o righteous_a god_n that_o will_v thus_o deal_v with_o his_o only_a son_n a_o man_n will_v have_v think_v if_o any_o thing_n in_o the_o world_n can_v have_v stop_v the_o hand_n of_o divine_a justice_n that_o it_o shall_v not_o proceed_v from_o god_n the_o father_n than_o christ_n he_o may_v have_v do_v it_o for_o she_o have_v all_o that_o ever_o any_o one_o in_o the_o world_n can_v have_v if_o the_o excellency_n of_o the_o person_n of_o our_o saviour_n can_v have_v do_v it_o or_o the_o holiness_n of_o the_o soul_n of_o our_o saviour_n than_o he_o may_v have_v be_v exempt_v from_o punishment_n yet_o all_o these_o be_v not_o able_a to_o do_v it_o because_o he_o be_v a_o surety_n but_o yet_o a_o man_n will_v have_v think_v that_o those_o tear_n of_o blood_n may_v in_o some_o measure_n moderate_v the_o matter_n can_v not_o those_o servant_n petition_n of_o he_o have_v have_v so_o much_o as_o some_o abatement_n of_o the_o punishment_n when_o he_o cry_v out_o say_v father_n if_o it_o be_v possible_a let_v this_o cup_n pass_v from_o i_o and_o then_o again_o the_o second_o time_n father_n if_o it_o be_v possible_a let_v this_o cup_n pass_v from_o i_o nay_o the_o three_o time_n father_n if_o it_o be_v possible_a let_v this_o cup_n pass_v from_o i_o the_o son_n of_o god_n be_v now_o upon_o the_o rack_n with_o it_o if_o it_o be_v possible_a let_v this_o cup_n pass_v from_o i_o let_v i_o only_o have_v a_o sip_n and_o away_o and_o so_o let_v it_o pass_v from_o i_o sure_o if_o any_o thing_n can_v have_v stop_v the_o hand_n of_o divine_a justice_n than_o christ_n may_v have_v do_v it_o but_o god_n will_v not_o nor_o do_v not_o abate_v our_o saviour_n one_o drop_v of_o his_o indignation_n but_o god_n inflict_v it_o all_o and_o christ_n suffer_v â—_o all_o behold_v therefore_o if_o thus_o be_v not_o a_o just_a god_n hear_v and_o fear_v all_o you_o that_o hear_v the_o good_a word_n of_o the_o lord_n this_o day_n you_o that_o think_v that_o christ_n be_v make_v all_o of_o mercy_n it_o be_v a_o god_n of_o your_o own_o imagination_n and_o your_o own_o devise_v it_o be_v not_o that_o god_n which_o be_v the_o lord_n of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n it_o be_v not_o the_o god_n of_o host_n the_o father_n of_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n oh_o say_v poor_a ignorant_a people_n he_o be_v a_o very_a merciful_a god_n and_o full_a of_o compassion_n it_o be_v true_a he_o be_v merciful_a indeed_o but_o know_v this_o also_o to_o thy_o terror_n that_o god_n be_v strict_a and_o precise_o righteous_a you_o think_v to_o put_v off_o god_n with_o a_o few_o good_a word_n and_o lazy_a wish_n and_o with_o a_o lord_n have_v mercy_n upon_o we_o and_o if_o you_o can_v have_v but_o a_o hour_n time_n before_o your_o death_n to_o cry_v god_n mercy_n oh_o their_o you_fw-mi think_v all_o shall_v be_v well_o and_o god_n will_v go_v away_o with_o anything_o and_o because_o you_o suffer_v a_o little_a punishment_n and_o affliction_n in_o this_o life_n therefore_o you_o think_v to_o be_v free_v from_o they_o altogether_o hereafter_o no_o no_o know_v thou_o shall_v not_o carry_v it_o away_o so_o indeed_o thou_o have_v trouble_n and_o affliction_n here_o but_o thou_o shall_v have_v eternity_n of_o torment_n for_o ever_o in_o the_o life_n to_o come_v if_o thou_o still_o continue_v to_o be_v a_o sinful_a wretch_n and_o a_o unbelieve_v there_o be_v no_o way_n with_o thou_o but_o to_o bear_v thy_o own_o plague_n and_o misery_n hereafter_o when_o thou_o see_v the_o son_n of_o god_n himself_o correct_v do_v thou_o think_v to_o go_v free_a if_o god_n will_v not_o bare_a oil_n saviour_n any_o thing_n of_o it_o do_v thou_o think_v he_o will_v abate_v thou_o any_o thing_n again_o our_o saviour_n have_v our_o sin_n only_o impute_v to_o he_o but_o thy_o sin_n thou_o have_v commit_v they_o thyself_o and_o can_v thou_o think_v to_o escape_v that_o be_v proud_a and_o stubborn_a and_o malicious_a and_o lie_v and_o live_v be_v thy_o sin_n and_o do_v wallow_v in_o they_o and_o allow_v of_o thyself_o in_o the_o commission_n of_o they_o no_o sure_o god_n will_v not_o spare_v any_o blasphemer_n nor_o unclean_a wretch_n nor_o profane_a person_n under_o heaven_n if_o he_o do_v not_o spare_v his_o own_o son_n he_o will_v not_o spare_v thou_o but_o he_o will_v inflict_v upon_o thou_o the_o sharp_a punishment_n that_o can_v be_v imagine_v therefore_o now_o if_o god_n be_v so_o severe_a against_o sin_n then_o let_v your_o affection_n be_v answerable_a thereunto_o do_v you_o pity_v none_o that_o be_v sinful_a not_o only_o slave_n but_o in_o a_o child_n a_o son_n a_o husband_n let_v we_o labour_n to_o get_v
