feel_v themselves_o sting_v look_v up_o to_o it_o for_o cure_v thus_o be_v it_o with_o our_o brazen_a serpent_n the_o lord_n jesus_n other_o may_v look_v upon_o he_o and_o yet_o be_v never_o the_o better_a for_o he_o so_o do_v the_o jew_n who_o see_v he_o crucify_v yet_o have_v no_o benefit_n by_o he_o text._n ferus_fw-la ad_fw-la text._n multi_fw-la viderunt_fw-la &_o oderunt_fw-la many_o of_o crucify_v before_o their_o eye_n in_o the_o preach_n of_o the_o word_n and_o yet_o not_o feel_v the_o need_n they_o have_v of_o he_o they_o shall_v never_o have_v any_o benefit_n by_o he_o o_o then_o labour_v we_o first_o to_o be_v sensible_a of_o this_o to_o feel_v ourselves_o sting_v mortal_o sting_v condition_n be_v we_o sensible_a of_o our_o condition_n so_o we_o be_v whether_o we_o feel_v it_o or_o no_o and_o the_o less_o we_o feel_v it_o the_o great_a be_v our_o danger_n and_o the_o less_o hope_n of_o grace_n only_a labour_n to_o be_v thus_o sensible_a hereof_o that_o so_o we_o may_v feel_v the_o need_n we_o have_v of_o jesus_n christ_n that_o we_o may_v see_v ourselves_o dead_a man_n without_o he_o now_o and_o not_o till_o now_o be_v we_o fit_v for_o he_o other_o qualification_n or_o predisposition_n he_o require_v none_o only_o that_o we_o be_v sensible_a of_o the_o need_n we_o have_v of_o he_o be_v such_o now_o come_v we_o unto_o he_o and_o come_v with_o boldness_n and_o confidence_n be_v assure_v that_o we_o shall_v find_v a_o perfect_a cure_n in_o he_o and_o from_o he_o we_o shall_v not_o die_v but_o live_v so_o much_o the_o verse_n follow_v will_v assure_v we_o of_o wherein_o we_o shall_v meet_v with_o the_o two_o other_o particular_n which_o i_o take_v notice_n of_o in_o the_o type_n full_o answer_v viz._n the_o end_n and_o efficacy_n of_o this_o our_o a_o spiritual_a cure_n of_o procure_v a_o eternal_a life_n for_o the_o extent_n of_o that_o effect_n the_o brazen_a serpent_n be_v erect_v for_o the_o use_n and_o benefit_n of_o the_o jew_n christ_n crucify_v be_v a_o saviour_n both_o of_o jew_n and_o gentile_n the_o efficacy_n and_o virtue_n of_o his_o death_n extend_v to_o both_o alike_o that_o whosoever_o believe_v on_o he_o shall_v not_o perish_v but_o have_v eternal_a life_n division_n division_n shall_v we_o divide_v the_o word_n we_o may_v take_v notice_n in_o they_o of_o two_o thing_n a_o condition_n and_o a_o promise_n a_o condition_n the_o same_o with_o the_o condition_n of_o the_o new_a covenant_n the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n viz._n believe_v on_o jesus_n christ_n whosoever_o believe_v on_o he_o the_o promise_n import_v the_o great_a benefit_n accrue_v to_o they_o who_o shall_v right_o perform_v this_o condition_n they_o shall_v not_o perish_v etc._n etc._n wherein_o we_o may_v take_v notice_n first_o of_o the_o benefit_n itself_o then_o of_o the_o person_n to_o who_o it_o extend_v the_o benefit_n itself_o which_o be_v partly_o privative_a partly_o positive_a privative_a deliverance_n from_o death_n they_o shall_v not_o perish_v positive_a fruition_n of_o life_n and_o that_o eternal_a life_n they_o shall_v not_o perish_v but_o have_v eternal_a life_n the_o extent_n of_o which_o benefit_n be_v from_o christ_n unto_o our_o justification_n and_o salvation_n you_o see_v the_o second_o question_n resolve_v and_o therein_o a_o resolution_n prepare_v and_o in_o part_n give_v to_o the_o three_o which_o be_v quest_n why_o this_o shall_v be_v the_o only_a way_n and_o mean_n to_o convey_v this_o benefit_n from_o christ_n mean_n quest_n 3._o why_o faith_n the_o only_a mean_n viz._n to_o can_v if_o he_o have_v please_v have_v direct_v they_o to_o some_o other_o way_n either_o to_o touch_v it_o or_o to_o fall_v down_o before_o it_o or_o the_o like_a or_o else_o he_o can_v have_v make_v it_o effectual_a to_o they_o only_o by_o the_o bare_a presence_n of_o it_o in_o the_o camp_n but_o this_o be_v the_o way_n which_o he_o pitch_v upon_o require_v they_o only_o to_o look_v up_o unto_o it_o thus_o god_n can_v have_v he_o please_v have_v appoint_v other_o way_n and_o mean_n of_o convey_v life_n and_o salvation_n to_o we_o but_o he_o have_v be_v please_v in_o infinite_a wisdom_n and_o mercy_n to_o pitch_v upon_o this_o require_v no_o more_o from_o we_o as_o the_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n but_o only_o this_o believe_v on_o the_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n 2._o be_v the_o proper_a work_n of_o faith_n why_o to_o receive_v christ_n to_o as_o many_o as_o receive_v he_o he_o give_v power_n to_o become_v the_o son_n of_o god_n even_o to_o as_o many_o as_o believe_v on_o his_o name_n joh._n 1.12_o to_o apply_v christ_n to_o bring_v christ_n home_o with_o his_o merit_n unto_o the_o soul_n this_o do_v faith_n it_o bring_v home_n christ_n and_o bring_v appoint_v this_o to_o be_v the_o only_a way_n to_o convey_v benefit_n from_o christ_n unto_o poor_a sinner_n for_o their_o justification_n and_o salvation_n you_o see_v this_o three_o question_n resolve_v and_o so_o you_o have_v this_o three_o conclusion_n open_v that_o which_o now_o remain_v hereof_o be_v the_o application_n which_o shall_v be_v only_o a_o word_n of_o direction_n and_o exhortation_n to_o all_o penitent_a brokenhearted_a sinner_n such_o as_o feel_v the_o sting_n of_o sin_n way_n applic._n seek_v cure_n in_o this_o way_n and_o desire_v to_o be_v heal_v cure_v for_o saviour_n to_o hear_v that_o god_n have_v give_v his_o son_n that_o christ_n have_v give_v himself_o for_o lose_a mankind_n or_o yet_o to_o know_v who_o and_o what_o this_o christ_n be_v what_o he_o have_v do_v what_o he_o have_v suffer_v and_o the_o like_a alas_o what_o will_v this_o have_v avail_v a_o poor_a israelite_n to_o have_v hear_v of_o the_o brazen_a serpent_n that_o it_o be_v erect_v in_o the_o camp_n and_o that_o all_o that_o come_v to_o it_o be_v heal_v by_o it_o whilst_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n himself_o lie_v close_o in_o his_o tent_n never_o look_v out_o for_o any_o benefit_n by_o it_o and_o what_o will_v this_o profit_n a_o poor_a sinner_n to_o hear_v what_o god_n have_v do_v for_o other_o in_o give_v a_o christ_n a_o saviour_n for_o they_o and_o to_o they_o whilst_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n himself_o lie_v still_o sleep_v in_o his_o sin_n not_o look_v out_o for_o cure_n for_o justification_n and_o salvation_n by_o and_o through_o he_o better_o such_o a_o one_o have_v never_o hear_v these_o gospel_n tiding_n his_o contempt_n or_o neglect_n of_o so_o great_a a_o mercy_n will_v be_v no_o small_a aggravation_n to_o his_o sin_n and_o punishment_n and_o therefore_o as_o many_o of_o we_o as_o god_n have_v in_o any_o measure_n make_v sensible_a of_o our_o miserable_a state_n and_o condition_n by_o reason_n of_o sin_n as_o we_o desire_v deliverance_n speak_v look_v up_o to_o this_o brazen_a serpent_n look_v you_o up_o to_o the_o lord_n jesus_n obey_v and_o die_v for_o your_o sake_n and_o look_v you_o up_o unto_o he_o as_o with_o desire_n so_o with_o hope_n with_o affiance_n and_o confidence_n of_o receive_v benefit_n by_o he_o to_o set_v on_o this_o exhortation_n what_o argument_n shall_v i_o take_v up_o strange_a motive_n motive_n there_o look_v to_o he_o believe_v on_o he_o they_o shall_v be_v save_v they_o shall_v need_v no_o other_o argument_n to_o persuade_v they_o to_o look_v up_o unto_o he_o yet_o to_o quicken_v our_o dull_a
