whereby_o our_o conscience_n be_v only_a washen_n from_o these_o dead_a work_n he_o that_o bring_v not_o this_o discharge_n with_o he_o to_o he_o shall_v his_o whole_a sin_n present_v themselves_o the_o 2._o chap._n 27._o to_o the_o philip._n when_o he_o make_v mention_n of_o the_o disease_n of_o epaphroditus_n he_o say_v no_o doubt_n he_o be_v sick_a very_o near_o unto_o death_n but_o the_o lord_n have_v mercy_n on_o he_o and_o not_o only_o upon_o he_o but_o on_o i_o also_o so_o he_o count_v the_o prorogation_n of_o day_n a_o special_a mercy_n and_o there_o be_v no_o mercy_n nor_o benefit_n of_o god_n but_o it_o may_v be_v crave_v so_o that_o it_o be_v crave_v to_o the_o right_a end_n for_o we_o direct_v our_o life_n to_o the_o glory_n of_o god_n and_o use_v it_o as_o pilgrim_n and_o stranger_n seek_v our_o home_n and_o have_v it_o ready_a to_o lay_v down_o in_o the_o hand_n of_o god_n
sun_n whereof_o you_o hear_v and_o heaven_n and_o earth_n shall_v perish_v ere_o a_o jot_n of_o his_o promise_n fail_v yet_o notwithstanding_o this_o be_v true_a that_o there_o be_v such_o a_o body_n by_o it_o so_o he_o have_v by_o it_o the_o life_n whereby_o he_o live_v in_o the_o soul_n for_o as_o there_o be_v a_o life_n and_o death_n of_o the_o body_n so_o there_o be_v a_o life_n and_o death_n of_o the_o soul_n the_o life_n of_o the_o body_n may_v be_v conjoin_v well_o with_o the_o death_n of_o the_o soul_n for_o we_o may_v live_v in_o the_o body_n and_o be_v dead_a in_o the_o soul_n at_o one_o time_n also_o the_o death_n of_o the_o body_n may_v stand_v with_o the_o life_n of_o the_o soul_n for_o we_o may_v depart_v from_o this_o life_n and_o go_v to_o a_o better_a the_o life_n of_o the_o body_n stand_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o soul_n but_o the_o life_n of_o the_o soul_n stand_v in_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n except_o our_o soul_n be_v bear_v anew_o again_o by_o the_o virtue_n of_o that_o spirit_n of_o life_n it_o be_v not_o possible_a that_o we_o can_v see_v god_n and_o taste_n of_o his_o joy_n for_o by_o nature_n we_o be_v not_o only_o hurt_v lame_a &_o maim_a but_o altogether_o dead_a in_o sin_n so_o that_o look_v how_o void_a a_o corpse_n be_v of_o a_o natural_a life_n as_o void_a be_v we_o of_o a_o heavenly_a and_o spiritual_a life_n the_o reason_n be_v this_o where_o death_n have_v place_n there_o life_n must_v be_v whole_o put_v out_o but_o by_o nature_n death_n have_v place_n in_o we_o therefore_o the_o spiritual_a life_n must_v be_v whole_o put_v out_o if_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n be_v whole_o put_v out_o there_o remain_v not_o so_o much_o as_o a_o breath_n out_o of_o the_o which_o any_o good_a cogitation_n or_o action_n may_v proceed_v if_o so_o be_v there_o be_v not_o so_o much_o as_o one_o breath_n where_o be_v all_o that_o freewill_n of_o the_o papist_n where_o be_v that_o integrity_n which_o remain_v in_o the_o filthy_a nature_n then_o i_o say_v we_o natural_o remain_v in_o the_o death_n of_o body_n and_o soul_n still_o until_o that_o by_o the_o participation_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n which_o dwell_v in_o the_o body_n of_o christ_n until_o i_o say_v that_o this_o spirit_n free_v we_o from_o sin_n and_o death_n and_o so_o until_o this_o time_n we_o shall_v never_o mount_v above_o the_o cloud_n nor_o see_v the_o face_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o as_o i_o exhort_v you_o the_o last_o day_n so_o i_o insist_v in_o the_o same_o exhortation_n now_o that_o every_o one_o of_o you_o mark_v and_o perceive_v yourselves_o whether_o you_o have_v such_o a_o life_n begin_v in_o you_o or_o not_o i_o give_v you_o three_o effect_n which_o will_v never_o deceive_v you_o the_o first_o be_v if_o you_o find_v yourselves_o refresh_v and_o recreate_v in_o your_o spirit_n from_o the_o terror_n of_o your_o conscience_n and_o the_o fear_n of_o sin_n which_o recreation_n and_o refreshment_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v call_v that_o peace_n that_o pass_v all_o understanding_n whereof_o the_o world_n be_v ignorant_a he_o that_o find_v any_o of_o this_o if_o it_o be_v never_o so_o little_a within_o he_o no_o question_n he_o have_v this_o life_n begin_v in_o he_o and_o the_o more_o this_o peace_n be_v augment_v the_o more_o the_o life_n grow_v but_o this_o peace_n grow_v by_o remove_v of_o sin_n therefore_o our_o whole_a study_n shall_v be_v to_o remove_v sin_n for_o the_o only_a thing_n that_o trouble_v the_o conscience_n be_v sin_n take_v away_o sin_n the_o conscience_n shall_v be_v at_o rest_n wherefore_o this_o be_v the_o chief_a effect_n i_o will_v you_o to_o take_v heed_n unto_o the_o second_o effect_n be_v joy_n and_o rejoice_v under_o trouble_n for_o we_o see_v trouble_v of_o the_o own_o nature_n bring_v not_o forth_o this_o effect_n but_o rather_o bring_v forth_o sorrow_n heaviness_n and_o lamentation_n then_o when_o our_o spirit_n be_v so_o dispose_v that_o under_o trouble_n we_o rejoice_v and_o glory_n in_o it_o this_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o life_n this_o joy_n be_v not_o in_o all_o trouble_n it_o be_v not_o in_o the_o trouble_n which_o we_o procure_v but_o only_o in_o the_o trouble_n which_o we_o sustain_v for_o righteousness_n sake_n and_o which_o we_o sustain_v for_o christ_n his_o sake_n the_o three_o effect_n be_v if_o you_o have_v a_o love_n of_o god_n and_o good_a man_n and_o a_o hatred_n of_o evil_a where_o these_o effect_n be_v in_o any_o measure_n no_o doubt_n but_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n be_v there_o as_o by_o the_o contrary_a where_o there_o be_v a_o love_n of_o wicked_a and_o evil_a man_n no_o question_n let_v they_o speak_v of_o christ_n as_o they_o will_v the_o spirit_n of_o the_o devil_n have_v full_a dominion_n this_o spirit_n of_o life_n we_o show_v be_v entertain_v by_o nourish_v of_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n when_o we_o edify_v ourselves_o in_o our_o most_o holy_a faith_n when_o we_o nourish_v the_o exercise_n of_o prayer_n as_o by_o the_o contrary_a the_o spirit_n be_v put_v out_o when_o by_o our_o evil_a do_n we_o put_v out_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n when_o we_o diminish_v our_o persuasion_n of_o his_o mercy_n in_o christ_n &_o fall_v from_o the_o exercise_n of_o prayer_n then_o you_o that_o have_v this_o life_n begin_v nourish_v it_o by_o well_o do_v for_o by_o well_o do_v no_o question_n our_o faith_n be_v corroborate_v delight_n therefore_o in_o well_o do_v sow_v in_o the_o spirit_n and_o not_o in_o the_o flesh_n run_v not_o with_o the_o thief_n nor_o consent_v not_o with_o the_o murderer_n for_o so_o you_o shall_v be_v participant_a of_o their_o punishment_n but_o sow_v in_o the_o spirit_n and_o of_o this_o you_o shall_v reap_v a_o everlasting_a and_o the_o lord_n suffer_v iniquity_n in_o this_o country_n so_o long_o to_o be_v unpunished_a former_o when_o there_o be_v but_o crumb_n of_o the_o bread_n of_o life_n they_o run_v to_o seek_v it_o so_o that_o they_o compass_v both_o sea_n and_o land_n and_o spare_v neither_o travel_n nor_o cost_n to_o be_v ingraft_v into_o the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n but_o now_o when_o there_o be_v plenty_n of_o it_o we_o have_v take_v such_o a_o loathsomeness_n thereof_o that_o we_o abuse_v the_o liberality_n of_o god_n offer_v to_o we_o and_o turn_v his_o grace_n and_o mercy_n into_o vengeance_n on_o our_o own_o head_n for_o as_o to_o the_o multitude_n you_o see_v that_o they_o have_v already_o prefer_v the_o leaven_n of_o the_o pharisee_n and_o go_v to_o mumchance_n mumry_n and_o unknown_a language_n wherein_o they_o pudle_v before_o as_o to_o the_o noble_a and_o gentleman_n they_o be_v so_o drunken_a with_o sacrilege_n that_o rather_o than_o they_o will_v render_v these_o good_n
mercy_n of_o god_n he_o shall_v find_v it_o terrible_a to_o fall_v into_o his_o hand_n it_o be_v terrible_a to_o fall_v into_o the_o hand_n of_o a_o consume_a fire_n sport_n with_o flesh_n as_o they_o please_v but_o jest_v not_o with_o god_n he_o shall_v find_v in_o experience_n if_o he_o run_v out_o this_o course_n that_o he_o shall_v curse_v the_o day_n of_o his_o birth_n &_o disclaim_v the_o acknowledge_v his_o life_n bygone_a and_o seek_v mercy_n by_o all_o manner_n of_o way_n as_o sometime_o by_o word_n by_o groan_v by_o tear_n by_o sigh_n by_o dolorous_a moan_n and_o lamentation_n and_o by_o all_o kind_n of_o humble_a gesture_n he_o obtain_v mercy_n so_o that_o the_o lord_n do_v cast_v his_o whole_a sin_n behind_o his_o back_n the_o cause_n that_o move_v the_o lord_n to_o show_v mercy_n he_o note_v in_o the_o midst_n of_o that_o verse_n there_o be_v no_o occasion_n in_o the_o king_n for_o he_o deserve_v the_o contrary_a it_o be_v only_o the_o love_n of_o the_o lord_n only_o the_o kindness_n of_o the_o lord_n in_o christ_n jesus_n his_o messiah_n who_o be_v to_o come_v of_o this_o king_n himself_o in_o the_o manner_n of_o his_o deliverance_n this_o king_n acknowledge_v three_o thing_n which_o be_v worthy_a of_o mark_v first_o the_o king_n acknowledge_v godly_a that_o sin_n be_v the_o only_a cause_n of_o our_o misery_n whether_o it_o be_v in_o our_o conscience_n body_n or_o soul_n sure_o this_o king_n speak_v very_o true_a for_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o god_n can_v hate_v in_o we_o but_o sin_n there_o be_v nothing_o that_o he_o can_v correct_v in_o we_o but_o sin_n there_o be_v nothing_o that_o his_o furious_a jealousy_n can_v burn_v up_o but_o sin_n there_o be_v nothing_o that_o he_o can_v purge_v in_o we_o but_o sin_n take_v away_o sin_n and_o the_o punishment_n of_o the_o wicked_a shall_v cease_v yea_o there_o shall_v be_v no_o such_o thing_n as_o a_o wicked_a one_o and_o the_o purgation_n of_o the_o godly_a shall_v not_o need_v so_o both_o punishment_n and_o purgation_n shall_v cease_v sin_n be_v take_v way_n for_o sin_n be_v the_o only_a thing_n that_o be_v punish_v in_o they_o and_o purge_v in_o us._n now_o this_o king_n acknowledge_v this_o run_v unto_o god_n confess_v his_o sin_n &_o find_v mercy_n lesson_n so_o note_v the_o lesson_n whether_o the_o lord_n visit_v we_o with_o trouble_n of_o body_n or_o conscience_n see_v that_o sin_n be_v the_o cause_n of_o our_o trouble_n let_v we_o run_v the_o high_a way_n to_o god_n examine_v our_o bypass_a life_n acknowledge_v our_o offence_n and_o run_v unto_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n for_o mercy_n and_o whosoever_o run_v to_o that_o throne_n shall_v find_v mercy_n in_o the_o day_n of_o his_o great_a necessity_n this_o be_v the_o first_o thing_n that_o he_o acknowledge_v the_o second_o thing_n that_o he_o acknowledge_v be_v this_o he_o acknowledge_v the_o remission_n of_o his_o sin_n disease_n the_o best_a and_o sure_a cure_n that_o can_v be_v apply_v to_o any_o disease_n for_o there_o can_v be_v a_o better_a cure_n nor_o a_o sure_a cure_n then_o to_o remove_v the_o cause_n of_o the_o disease_n therefore_o the_o remove_n of_o sin_n cure_v the_o disease_n the_o unhappy_a world_n when_o they_o be_v visit_v with_o any_o disease_n they_o run_v only_o to_o the_o body_n and_o seek_v the_o cause_n of_o the_o disease_n only_o in_o the_o body_n as_o though_o the_o body_n have_v the_o only_a wit_n they_o run_v never_o to_o the_o soul_n when_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n the_o body_n be_v but_o a_o instrument_n to_o the_o soul_n for_o if_o the_o soul_n be_v well_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o we_o can_v be_v disease_v therefore_o see_v the_o cause_n of_o the_o disease_n lurk_v in_o the_o soul_n when_o the_o lord_n visit_v you_o with_o any_o disease_n run_v to_o the_o soul_n acknowledge_v that_o sin_n be_v the_o cause_n lay_v the_o fault_n where_o it_o be_v and_o crave_v mercy_n of_o god_n for_o this_o be_v the_o ready_a way_n to_o cure_v our_o disease_n will_v god_n this_o lesson_n be_v learn_v for_o if_o it_o be_v well_o observe_v we_o shall_v not_o see_v so_o many_o kind_n of_o pestilent_a disease_n rage_v in_o this_o country_n as_o at_o this_o day_n we_o do_v the_o three_o thing_n the_o king_n acknowledge_v be_v that_o it_o be_v not_o his_o own_o integrity_n that_o procure_v his_o deliverance_n he_o acknowledge_v that_o it_o ostentation_n of_o his_o good_a deed_n and_o innocency_n of_o life_n but_o here_o in_o the_o end_n of_o this_o verse_n he_o resolve_v this_o doubt_n he_o let_v we_o see_v it_o be_v the_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n jesus_n that_o be_v the_o only_a cause_n of_o his_o deliverance_n thus_o far_o for_o the_o meaning_n of_o the_o word_n now_o let_v we_o mark_v the_o form_n of_o speech_n the_o form_n be_v this_o because_o say_v he_o he_o have_v cast_v all_o my_o sin_n behind_o his_o back_n this_o form_n of_o speech_n be_v borrow_v from_o our_o custom_n for_o those_o thing_n that_o man_n may_v not_o behold_v that_o be_v filthy_a and_o abominable_a we_o cast_v they_o behind_o our_o back_n that_o we_o may_v not_o see_v they_o forget_v now_o sin_n be_v the_o only_a thing_n which_o be_v abominable_a in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n when_o he_o forgive_v we_o our_o sin_n he_o be_v say_v to_o cast_v they_o behind_o his_o back_n the_o only_a thing_n that_o hide_v the_o countenance_n of_o god_n from_o we_o be_v sin_n for_o there_o be_v nothing_o that_o can_v separate_v man_n from_o his_o creator_n but_o sin_n only_o and_o what_o lose_v we_o when_o we_o be_v separate_v from_o the_o
