happiness_n in_o her_o servant_n servant_n especial_o such_o a_o fugitive_a vagabond_n &_o uncertain_a servant_n these_o massy_a and_o gross_a riches_n be_v too_o course_n a_o object_n for_o a_o pure_a and_o spiritual_a essence_n they_o carry_v no_o likeness_n or_o proportion_n unto_o it_o and_o therefore_o can_v give_v the_o soul_n no_o addition_n of_o her_o natural_a pleasure_n or_o profit_n much_o less_o of_o her_o perfect_a happiness_n wherein_o she_o must_v have_v a_o part_n so_o far_o great_a than_o the_o body_n as_o she_o be_v more_o excellent_a than_o it_o chap._n v._o of_o knowledge_n but_o some_o moral_a vizard_n will_v tell_v i_o that_o knowledge_n have_v some_o high_a privilege_n above_o misery_n and_o such_o a_o one_o as_o can_v give_v happiness_n to_o this_o in_o spite_n of_o it_o unhappy_a life_n indeed_o knowledge_n be_v a_o dim_a light_n which_o be_v better_o than_o very_a darkness_n it_o have_v a_o excellency_n as_o dawn_v above_o night_n but_o though_o it_o be_v better_a it_o be_v not_o that_o chief_a good_a which_o can_v make_v we_o happy_a it_o may_v indeed_o be_v use_v as_o a_o instrument_n for_o the_o discovery_n of_o happiness_n though_o seldom_o it_o be_v put_v to_o that_o use_n but_o in_o itself_o neither_o in_o any_o thing_n create_v shall_v it_o ever_o be_v able_a to_o discover_v it_o yea_o rather_o it_o shall_v find_v in_o itself_o and_o in_o all_o thing_n of_o this_o world_n many_o imperfection_n and_o fayling_n of_o those_o just_a condition_n absolute_o necessary_a to_o be_v find_v in_o man_n sovereign_a good_a our_o knowledge_n be_v but_o of_o a_o short_a reach_n the_o thing_n beyond_o it_o be_v infinite_o more_o than_o the_o thing_n on_o this_o side_n of_o it_o therefore_o when_o knowledge_n be_v come_v to_o a_o suppose_a perfection_n a_o special_a quality_n of_o it_o be_v to_o know_v itself_o to_o be_v imperfect_a even_o those_o thing_n which_o be_v within_o the_o compass_n of_o it_o it_o search_v by_o piecemeal_o part_n after_o part_n as_o one_o that_o read_v a_o great_a volume_n in_o the_o dark_a with_o a_o glow-worm_n which_o show_v he_o but_o letter_n after_o letter_n so_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o trouble_n go_v to_o a_o very_a little_a profit_n hence_o be_v our_o science_n but_o many_o little_n piece_v together_o while_o the_o great_a body_n of_o truth_n &_o wisdom_n stand_v beyond_o our_o sight_n and_o by_o the_o incomprehensiblenesse_n thereof_o accuse_v our_o knowledge_n even_o to_o itself_o of_o weakness_n as_o the_o glory_n of_o the_o sun_n do_v our_o eye_n by_o dazzle_v they_o and_o this_o magnify_v little_a knowledge_n which_o we_o have_v what_o extraordinary_a vantage_n do_v it_o bring_v unto_o man_n sure_o it_o often_o bestow_v vexation_n on_o the_o owner_n of_o it_o and_o by_o increase_v increase_v sorrow_n for_o to_o the_o great_a knowledge_n the_o vanity_n and_o misery_n of_o man_n do_v present_v itself_o in_o a_o most_o full_a appearance_n yea_o great_a knowledge_n usual_o take_v up_o aforehand_o evil_n to_o come_v and_o make_v they_o present_a hence_o it_o be_v that_o many_o learned_a philosopher_n have_v vex_v their_o life_n with_o the_o consideration_n of_o their_o death_n which_o many_o ignorant_a and_o sturdy_a clown_n without_o premeditation_n have_v under-taken_a with_o more_o ease_n as_o miss_v the_o trouble_n of_o anticipation_n &_o have_v dispatch_v with_o less_o business_n and_o wrestle_v as_o be_v hood-winked_n with_o a_o blind_a contentment_n to_o do_v as_o their_o father_n have_v do_v before_o they_o for_o this_o cause_n also_o some_o of_o our_o great_a knower_n have_v wink_v against_o knowledge_n and_o have_v desire_v that_o ignorance_n shall_v cozen_v they_o of_o their_o grief_n to_o which_o knowledge_n will_v continual_o and_o loud_o awake_v they_o sure_o when_o the_o knowledge_n of_o man_n have_v discover_v throughout_o this_o frame_n of_o the_o world_n a_o excellent_a wisdom_n and_o order_n when_o it_o see_v that_o there_o be_v a_o excellent_a beauty_n in_o the_o face_n of_o goodness_n yea_o some_o excellence_n in_o knowledge_n itself_o how_o must_v not_o this_o need_v torment_v the_o heart_n of_o the_o knower_n while_o the_o same_o knowledge_n see_v also_o the_o action_n of_o mankind_n to_o run_v so_o mad_o and_o confuse_o while_o it_o see_v justice_n or_o at_o least_o power_n tread_v upon_o the_o face_n of_o goodness_n and_o exalt_v wickedness_n while_o it_o see_v a_o undistinguish_a chance_n to_o come_v unto_o all_o and_o final_o while_o knowledge_n see_v knowledge_n despise_v and_o yet_o not_o able_a to_o help_v itself_o not_o any_o of_o those_o evil_n which_o it_o see_v certain_o these_o thing_n be_v a_o vexation_n of_o mind_n to_o the_o man_n
while_o it_o be_v darkness_n and_o therefore_o from_o the_o justify_v &_o sanctify_v be_v that_o whole_o take_v away_o but_o sorrow_n sickness_n temporal_a death_n and_o all_o other_o outward_a evil_n may_v cease_v to_o be_v evil_n yea_o they_o may_v be_v turn_v into_o benefit_n and_o indeed_o be_v so_o by_o the_o excellence_n of_o he_o that_o dwell_v in_o us._n but_o yet_o our_o restorer_n cease_v spirit_n dwell_v in_o we_o or_o into_o chastisement_n of_o the_o corruption_n yet_o remain_v with_o we_o so_o be_v they_o benefit_n and_o no_o long_a evil_n for_o the_o spirit_n which_o be_v our_o life_n grow_v by_o exercise_n as_o bodily_a strength_n do_v by_o bodily_a labour_n and_o the_o sadness_n of_o the_o heart_n many_o time_n chasten_v profitable_o the_o remain_a corruption_n of_o the_o flesh_n as_o frost_n do_v the_o weed_n as_o for_o corporal_a death_n which_o be_v common_o fear_v as_o the_o great_a evil_n it_o be_v turn_v into_o the_o great_a benefit_n for_o it_o be_v a_o door_n both_o to_o go_v out_o of_o this_o life_n of_o wretchedness_n and_o to_o go_v into_o a_o life_n of_o happiness_n whereof_o the_o one_o be_v darksome_a full_a of_o serpent_n and_o haunt_v with_o spirit_n and_o the_o other_o glorious_a in_o light_n full_a of_o shine_a angel_n and_o glorify_a saint_n in_o eternal_a blessedness_n as_o a_o door_n in_o a_o partition_n between_o two_o room_n so_o be_v death_n between_o two_o life_n it_o no_o soon_o let_v we_o out_o of_o the_o one_o but_o it_o let_v we_o into_o the_o other_o so_o that_o we_o do_v not_o so_o much_o go_v out_o of_o life_n as_o go_v into_o life_n for_o that_o only_o deserve_v the_o name_n of_o life_n which_o be_v full_a of_o happiness_n and_o that_o in_o perpetuity_n and_o not_o that_o which_o be_v fill_v with_o misery_n and_o who_o special_a commendation_n be_v brevity_n therefore_o let_v it_o be_v far_o from_o we_o from_o henceforth_o to_o call_v that_o evil_a which_o deliver_v we_o from_o misery_n into_o felicity_n moreover_o whereas_o we_o be_v in_o a_o continual_a slavery_n unto_o corruption_n even_o to_o that_o false_a knowledge_n of_o good_a and_o evil_a by_o which_o also_o we_o be_v obedient_a slave_n unto_o the_o devil_n the_o master_n and_o teacher_n of_o this_o knowledge_n now_o that_o authority_n and_o command_n of_o corrupt_a and_o fleshly_a wisdom_n be_v break_v down_o foolishness_n sin_n step_n in_o this_o path_n chalk_v out_o by_o the_o spirit_n for_o the_o spirit_n will_v both_o defend_v we_o in_o this_o way_n and_o at_o last_o bring_v we_o to_o the_o way_n end_n which_o be_v eternal_a felicity_n in_o this_o path_n of_o the_o spirit_n be_v perpetual_a safety_n and_o protection_n the_o serpent_n can_v bite_v we_o and_o if_o he_o do_v bite_v his_o venom_n be_v turn_v into_o a_o medicine_n so_o that_o he_o do_v rather_o heal_v than_o poison_n for_o the_o spirit_n be_v more_o good_a than_o any_o thing_n be_v evil_a it_o will_v sanctify_v and_o bless_v whatsoever_o befall_v thy_o double_a misery_n there_o be_v one_o that_o wash_v away_o thy_o guilt_n and_o another_o that_o wash_v away_o thy_o corruption_n one_o that_o wash_v away_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o flesh_n and_o another_o that_o wash_v away_o the_o flesh_n itself_o one_o of_o these_o be_v the_o blood_n of_o christ_n the_o other_o be_v the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n one_o be_v justification_n the_o other_o be_v sanctification_n and_o these_o two_o christ_n have_v inseparable_o conjoin_v because_o he_o will_v have_v they_o inseparable_a for_o he_o import_v his_o justify_n blood_n by_o a_o sanctify_a spirit_n who_o christ_n cleanse_v he_o will_v thorough_o cleanse_v not_o take_v away_o the_o guilt_n and_o leave_v the_o corruption_n nor_o take_v away_o the_o corruption_n &_o leave_v the_o guilt_n but_o at_o once_o clear_v both_o corruption_n and_o guilt_n by_o sanctification_n and_o justification_n wherefore_o when_o we_o come_v to_o be_v wash_v by_o christ_n and_o have_v recourse_n to_o his_o water_n of_o purification_n who_o cleanse_v be_v apply_v main_o and_o general_o to_o the_o whole_a body_n of_o sin_n in_o baptism_n if_o accompany_v with_o regeneration_n but_o the_o virtue_n thereof_o be_v also_o particular_o to_o be_v apply_v through_o our_o whole_a life_n to_o the_o particular_a sinful_a fruit_n of_o that_o body_n of_o sin_n we_o must_v beware_v of_o three_o fault_n the_o one_o that_o root_n of_o those_o sin_n so_o shall_v thou_o be_v whole_o clean_a the_o heal_a and_o close_v flesh_n must_v be_v new_o rip_v from_o the_o soul_n by_o the_o sword_n of_o the_o spirit_n even_o by_o holy_a conversion_n repentance_n and_o amendment_n the_o face_n of_o the_o soul_n must_v be_v wash_v with_o the_o oil_n of_o the_o spirit_n to_o take_v away_o the_o spot_n &_o blemish_n receive_v by_o the_o pitchy_a touch_n of_o sin_n and_o then_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n will_v take_v from_o we_o the_o guilt_n of_o sin_n be_v former_o abandon_v forsake_a and_o thrust_v out_o of_o door_n by_o the_o spirit_n a_o second_o fault_n be_v a_o vehement_a desire_n and_o endeavour_n and_o performance_n of_o this_o part_n and_o duty_n of_o sanctification_n without_o the_o comfortable_a hope_n &_o confidence_n of_o instification_n this_o infirmity_n be_v most_o usual_o find_v in_o break_a &_o afflict_a soul_n who_o most_o vehement_o desire_v renew_v and_o reformation_n yet_o dare_v not_o to_o lay_v hold_n on_o justify_v and_o absolve_a these_o be_v contrary_a to_o the_o former_a offender_n for_o they_o present_o lie_v hold_v on_o christ_n for_o mercy_n but_o neglect_v the_o holiness_n without_o which_o no_o man_n shall_v see_v god_n and_o these_o strive_v main_o for_o holiness_n by_o doubt_n go_v about_o to_o put_v from_o they_o that_o right_n in_o christ_n blood_n which_o belong_v chief_o to_o such_o as_o they_o be_v even_o to_o the_o humble_a and_o meek_a to_o they_o that_o hunger_n and_o thirst_n for_o righteousness_n a_o three_o fault_n be_v the_o misorder_a and_o misapply_v of_o these_o water_n such_o be_v the_o wash_n away_o of_o guilt_n by_o the_o water_n of_o sanctification_n &_o of_o corruption_n by_o the_o water_n of_o justification_n for_o though_o they_o be_v both_o join_v together_o and_o do_v not_o at_o all_o divide_v themselves_o yet_o be_v join_v they_o be_v not_o confound_v neither_o do_v the_o one_o proper_o perform_v the_o work_n of_o the_o other_o christ_n blood_n justify_v christ_n spirit_n sanctify_v the_o justification_n be_v not_o without_o sanctification_n neither_o be_v the_o sanctification_n without_o justification_n yet_o justification_n be_v not_o sanctification_n neither_o be_v sanctification_n justification_n the_o justice_n of_o god_n be_v satisfy_v with_o blood_n and_o his_o holiness_n be_v please_v with_o pureness_n in_o the_o inward_a part_n &_o in_o these_o two_o thus_o distinguish_v lie_v the_o tenor_n of_o the_o new_a covenant_n for_o thus_o we_o find_v it_o describe_v he_o will_v take_v away_o our_o sin_n and_o he_o will_v give_v we_o new_a heart_n but_o after_o we_o have_v sin_v the_o renew_n of_o our_o heart_n be_v not_o a_o purgation_n of_o our_o guilt_n but_o of_o our_o corruption_n the_o purgation_n of_o our_o guilt_n be_v wrought_v by_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n though_o impart_v and_o seal_v to_o our_o spirit_n by_o the_o same_o spirit_n by_o which_o we_o be_v renew_v yea_o even_o the_o same_o time_n now_o because_o in_o this_o change_n and_o renew_n of_o our_o mind_n the_o spirit_n enter_v into_o we_o with_o fresh_a grace_n by_o which_o entry_n the_o virtue_n of_o christ_n satisfaction_n enter_v also_o &_o offer_v itself_o to_o comfort_n and_o heal_v up_o our_o conscience_n with_o assurance_n of_o forgiveness_n all_o christ_n benefit_n be_v reach_v to_o we_o
