to_o deny_v this_o reveal_v truth_n and_o to_o impose_v this_o strange_a negative_a article_n of_o faith_n of_o they_o that_o in_o the_o sacrament_n of_o the_o lord_n supper_n there_o be_v not_o any_o transubstantiation_n of_o the_o element_n of_o bread_n and_o wine_n into_o the_o body_n and_o blood_n of_o christ_n at_o or_o after_o consecration_n by_o any_o person_n whatsoever_o under_o no_o less_o penalty_n than_o the_o temporal_a loss_n of_o their_o estate_n and_o livelihood_n test_n the_o loss_n of_o their_o life_n the_o formal_a renounce_n of_o the_o catholic_a faith_n and_o or_o 5_o to_o magnify_v the_o power_n of_o the_o priest_n in_o be_v able_a to_o work_v so_o great_a a_o miracle_n one_a they_o pretend_v for_o this_o doctrine_n the_o authority_n of_o scripture_n in_o those_o word_n of_o our_o saviour_n this_o be_v my_o body_n now_o to_o show_v the_o insufficiency_n of_o this_o pretence_n i_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o make_v good_a these_o two_o thing_n 1._o that_o there_o be_v no_o necessity_n of_o understand_v those_o word_n of_o our_o saviour_n in_o the_o sense_n of_o transubstantiation_n 2._o that_o there_o be_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o reason_n to_o understand_v they_o otherwise_o answer_n in_o the_o handle_n of_o this_o argument_n i_o shall_v proceed_v in_o this_o plain_a method_n discourse_n i._o i_o shall_v consider_v the_o solid_a ground_n and_o reason_n of_o the_o catholic_a church_n for_o this_o doctrine_n ii_o i_o shall_v weigh_v the_o objection_n which_o the_o author_n make_v against_o it_o and_o if_o i_o can_v show_v that_o there_o mercy_n and_o condescension_n of_o god_n to_o operate_v such_o a_o change_n as_o this_o for_o the_o comfort_n and_o benefit_n of_o those_o who_o receive_v this_o sacrament_n or_o 5_o the_o just_a dignity_n of_o the_o priest_n who_o god_n be_v please_v to_o make_v use_n of_o as_o his_o minister_n for_o the_o work_n so_o miraculous_a a_o change_n one_a the_o catholic_a church_n have_v always_o our_o saviour_n in_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o real_a presence_n or_o transubstantiation_n from_o whence_o it_o will_v necessary_o follow_v ii_o that_o there_o be_v no_o reason_n at_o all_o for_o the_o understanding_n they_o otherwise_o discourse_n first_o that_o there_o be_v no_o necessity_n to_o understand_v those_o word_n of_o our_o saviour_n in_o the_o sense_n of_o transubstantiation_n if_o there_o be_v any_o it_o must_v be_v from_o one_o of_o these_o two_o reason_n either_o because_o there_o be_v no_o figurative_a expression_n in_o scripture_n which_o i_o think_v no_o man_n ever_o yet_o say_v or_o else_o because_o a_o sacrament_n admit_v of_o no_o figure_n which_o will_v be_v very_o absurd_a for_o any_o man_n to_o say_v since_o it_o be_v of_o the_o very_a nature_n of_o a_o sacrament_n to_o represent_v and_o exhibit_v some_o invisible_a grace_n and_o benefit_n by_o a_o outward_a sign_n and_o figure_n and_o especial_o since_o it_o can_v be_v deny_v but_o that_o in_o the_o institution_n of_o this_o very_a sacrament_n our_o saviour_n use_v figurative_a expression_n and_o several_a word_n which_o can_v be_v take_v strict_o and_o literal_o when_o he_o give_v the_o cup_n he_o say_v this_o cup_n be_v the_o new_a testament_n in_o my_o blood_n which_o be_v shed_v for_o you_o and_o for_o many_o for_o the_o remission_n of_o sin_n where_o first_o the_o cup_n be_v put_v for_o wine_n contain_v in_o the_o cup_n or_o else_o if_o the_o word_n by_o literal_o take_v so_o as_o to_o signify_v a_o substantial_a change_n it_o be_v not_o of_o the_o wine_n but_o of_o the_o cup_n and_o that_o not_o into_o the_o blood_n of_o christ_n but_o into_o the_o new_a testament_n or_o new_a covenant_n in_o his_o blood._n beside_o that_o his_o blood_n be_v say_v then_o to_o be_v shed_v and_o his_o body_n to_o be_v break_v which_o be_v not_o till_o his_o passion_n which_o follow_v the_o institution_n and_o first_o celebration_n of_o this_o sacrament_n answer_n first_o presence_n that_o there_o be_v a_o necessity_n of_o understand_v those_o word_n of_o our_o saviour_n in_o the_o sense_n of_o the_o real_a presence_n or_o transubstantiation_n for_o these_o two_o reason_n 1._o because_o although_o there_o be_v many_o figurative_a expression_n in_o scripture_n which_o all_o man_n allow_v yet_o this_o in_o relation_n to_o the_o case_n in_o hand_n be_v not_o such_o 2._o although_o a_o sacrament_n admit_v of_o figure_n which_o no_o man_n be_v so_o absurd_a as_o to_o deny_v since_o it_o be_v of_o the_o very_a nature_n of_o a_o sacrament_n to_o represent_v and_o exhibit_v some_o invisible_a grace_n and_o benefit_n by_o a_o outward_a sign_n and_o figure_n yet_o the_o figure_n do_v not_o lie_v where_o the_o author_n pretend_v it_o do_v the_o rule_n which_o saviour_n give_v the_o cup_n he_o
natural_a organise_v and_o visible_a body_n be_v then_o whole_a and_o unbroken_a and_o its_o blood_n not_o then_o shed_v yet_o that_o very_a body_n as_o break_v in_o the_o sacrament_n be_v say_v to_o be_v tense_n then_o give_v for_o they_o that_o very_a blood_n as_o there_o pour_v out_o be_v say_v then_o to_o be_v pour_v out_o for_o the_o remission_n of_o sin_n therefore_o it_o be_v a_o propitiatory_a sacrifice_n although_o offer_v before_o as_o well_o as_o after_o christ_n have_v suffer_v to_o pay_v the_o full_a price_n of_o our_o redemption_n because_o its_o whole_a nature_n do_v
