be_v alike_o &_o wherein_o they_o differ_v 2._o by_o show_v the_o divers_a dispensation_n of_o the_o covenant_n both_o before_o christ_n and_o since_o christ_n come_v 3._o by_o show_v what_o be_v the_o benefit_n which_o we_o receive_v by_o virtue_n of_o this_o covenant_n 4._o by_o show_v the_o condition_n of_o the_o covenant_n what_o that_o be_v 5._o by_o note_v out_o the_o property_n of_o one_o they_o call_v the_o commandment_n give_v by_o moses_n the_o old_a law_n and_o the_o gospel_n the_o new_a law_n and_o herein_o they_o make_v all_o the_o difference_n that_o the_o new_a law_n as_o they_o call_v it_o give_v rule_n of_o great_a perfection_n and_o difficulty_n than_o the_o old_a law_n as_o where_o the_o old_a law_n as_o they_o term_v it_o command_v thou_o shall_v not_o kill_v it_o in_o the_o saint_n as_o in_o zachary_n and_o elizabeth_n they_o not_o put_v difference_n betwixt_o law_n and_o gospel_n they_o apply_v this_o to_o a_o legal_a keep_n of_o the_o commandment_n which_o be_v quite_o contrary_a to_o the_o mind_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o truth_n speak_v in_o the_o word_n hence_o also_o they_o teach_v that_o there_o be_v but_o oâ—e_a way_n of_o justification_n in_o both_o covenant_n which_o be_v by_o work_n as_o they_o say_v the_o new_a law_n give_v more_o grace_n to_o fulfil_v the_o commandment_n of_o it_o then_o the_o old_a do_v but_o the_o way_n of_o and_o if_o it_o be_v so_o in_o these_o unreasonable_a creature_n thus_o to_o depend_v upon_o their_o creator_n than_o be_v the_o same_o in_o man_n much_o more_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o law_n require_v this_o faith_n of_o man_n in_o the_o beginning_n though_o now_o we_o be_v as_o god_n in_o our_o own_o eye_n selfe-sufficient_a depend_v upon_o ourselves_o and_o none_o else_o for_o all_o the_o good_a we_o hope_v for_o yet_o at_o the_o beginning_n it_o be_v not_o so_o but_o man_n be_v to_o depend_v upon_o god_n for_o his_o be_v and_o well-being_n 2._o another_o act_n of_o faith_n require_v in_o the_o law_n be_v a_o persuasion_n that_o god_n be_v well_o please_v with_o he_o whilst_o he_o walk_v in_o the_o way_n of_o love_n and_o obedience_n to_o his_o creator_n he_o be_v to_o believe_v without_o fear_n and_o doubt_n that_o so_o long_o as_o he_o obey_v the_o will_n of_o the_o lord_n he_o be_v well-pleased_a with_o he_o 3._o he_o be_v to_o believe_v the_o blessing_n of_o life_n promise_v in_o that_o covenant_n and_o to_o expect_v it_o according_a to_o the_o promise_n in_o all_o these_o regard_v faith_n be_v command_v in_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n it_o may_v here_o be_v demand_v object_n if_o faith_n be_v require_v in_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n why_o be_v it_o not_o express_v in_o plain_a word_n as_o well_o as_o do_v the_o covenant_n of_o work_n say_v thou_o shall_v love_v the_o lord_n thy_o god_n and_o serve_v he_o but_o it_o do_v not_o call_v for_o any_o act_n of_o faith_n at_o all_o the_o reason_n thereof_o be_v answ_n because_o when_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n be_v make_v with_o man_n he_o be_v then_o in_o his_o integrity_n sin_n be_v not_o yet_o come_v into_o the_o world_n and_o therefore_o there_o be_v no_o cause_n for_o man_n to_o doubt_v the_o promise_n of_o life_n upon_o condition_n of_o believe_v must_v be_v legal_a also_o and_o then_o there_o be_v no_o difference_n leave_v betwixt_o these_o two_o do_v and_o live_v and_o believe_v the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n but_o as_o he_o notwithstanding_o his_o distinction_n of_o man_n regenerate_v and_o unregenerate_a do_v in_o effect_n confound_v both_o covenant_n change_v the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n into_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n so_o do_v these_o notwithstanding_o their_o distinction_n of_o commandment_n and_o promise_n they_o confound_v both_o covenant_n change_v the_o covenant_n of_o work_n which_o stand_v in_o do_v into_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n which_o stand_v in_o believe_v and_o so_o by_o this_o doctrine_n one_o of_o the_o principal_a difference_n the_o life_n promise_v whereas_o in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n god_n do_v not_o only_o promise_v life_n to_o those_o that_o do_v believe_v but_o promise_v that_o their_o faith_n shall_v not_o fail_v and_o that_o he_o will_v keep_v they_o by_o faith_n unto_o salvation_n and_o preserve_v they_o to_o his_o heavenly_a kingdom_n the_o promise_n therefore_o of_o this_o covenant_n be_v large_a and_o better_a then_o of_o that_o other_o this_o be_v make_v with_o none_o but_o with_o those_o that_o the_o purpose_n of_o his_o grace_n do_v reach_v unto_o he_o make_v this_o covenant_n with_o his_o choose_a psal_n 89.3_o and_o with_o they_o only_o it_o be_v reveal_v to_o many_o but_o make_v up_o with_o few_o even_o with_o those_o that_o be_v vessel_n of_o mercy_n prepare_v unto_o glory_n three_o in_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n distinguish_v these_o two_o first_o the_o term_n substance_n or_o head_n of_o the_o covenant_n propound_v and_o agree_v upon_o betwixt_o god_n and_o man_n second_o the_o fulfil_n or_o violation_n of_o it_o by_o man_n with_o who_o it_o be_v make_v the_o substance_n of_o the_o covenant_n be_v one_o the_o fulfil_n of_o it_o be_v another_o the_o substance_n of_o it_o do_v this_o and_o live_v be_v not_o change_v though_o the_o fulfil_n of_o it_o by_o adam_n do_v fail_v as_o well_o it_o may_v because_o god_n never_o promise_v he_o to_o cause_v he_o to_o fulfil_v it_o but_o only_o to_o give_v he_o life_n in_o case_n he_o do_v work_v therein_o but_o in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n both_o these_o be_v promise_v one_o as_o well_o as_o the_o other_o the_o lord_n not_o only_a promise_a life_n to_o those_o that_o do_v believe_v but_o that_o he_o will_v uphold_v we_o in_o the_o faith_n unto_o the_o end_n and_o hereupon_o it_o follow_v that_o though_o in_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n man_n fail_v in_o his_o duty_n yet_o the_o covenant_n on_o god_n part_n remain_v inviolate_a for_o if_o god_n give_v life_n upon_o obedience_n perform_v or_o inflict_v death_n upon_o disobedience_n god_n do_v in_o so_o do_v perform_v this_o covenant_n towards_o man_n this_o be_v all_o that_o god_n promise_v in_o that_o covenant_n but_o in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n there_o can_v be_v no_o total_a breach_n on_o our_o part_n so_o as_o to_o dissolve_v the_o covenant_n betwixt_o god_n and_o we_o but_o it_o will_v import_v a_o fail_n of_o the_o covenant_n on_o god_n part_n also_o because_o he_o have_v promise_v we_o to_o keep_v we_o with_o he_o for_o ever_o and_o give_v this_o as_o the_o reason_n why_o his_o covenant_n with_o we_o shall_v be_v everlasting_a namely_o because_o he_o will_v put_v his_o fear_n unto_o our_o heart_n so_o that_o we_o shall_v never_o depart_v away_o from_o he_o so_o that_o if_o the_o lord_n shall_v now_o suffer_v his_o covenant-people_n whole_o to_o depart_v and_o to_o break_v covenant_n with_o he_o there_o must_v follow_v some_o change_n of_o mind_n in_o god_n as_o have_v thought_n of_o love_n towards_o we_o when_o he_o take_v we_o into_o covenant_n with_o he_o and_o of_o dislike_n when_o he_o suffer_v we_o to_o depart_v from_o he_o but_o there_o be_v no_o such_o change_n in_o god_n therefore_o this_o his_o covenant_n with_o we_o be_v everlasting_a reas_n 2._o from_o the_o everlasting_a mediation_n and_o intercession_n of_o christâ—_n who_o for_o ever_o stand_v betwixt_o god_n and_o we_o to_o make_v up_o all_o breach_n which_o may_v be_v make_v by_o our_o default_n as_o he_o have_v obtain_v a_o eternal_a redemption_n for_o we_o heb._n 9.12_o and_o have_v bring_v in_o a_o everlasting_a righteousness_n for_o we_o dan._n 9.24_o so_o do_v he_o sit_v at_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o the_o father_n and_o life_n for_o ever_o to_o make_v eternal_a intercession_n for_o we_o rom._n 8.34_o and_o by_o this_o intercession_n of_o he_o we_o continue_v for_o ever_o in_o favour_n with_o god_n and_o the_o covenant_n
