deduce_v i._o that_o there_o be_v full_a satisfy_a joy_n and_o everlasting_a pleasure_n attainable_a by_o men._n ii_o that_o these_o joy_n and_o pleasure_n be_v in_o the_o presence_n or_o at_o the_o right_a hand_n of_o god_n which_o two_o point_n i_o shall_v first_o endeavour_v to_o explain_v and_o prove_v and_o then_o in_o the_o three_o place_n i_o will_v describe_v to_o you_o the_o nature_n and_o excellency_n of_o those_o full_a joy_n so_o far_o as_o god_n have_v be_v please_v in_o his_o holy_a scripture_n to_o reveal_v they_o to_o we_o i._o that_o there_o be_v full_a satisfy_a joy_n and_o eternal_a pleasure_n attainable_a by_o men._n this_o be_v one_o of_o the_o main_a principle_n of_o all_o religion_n we_o see_v that_o the_o first_o article_n of_o our_o christian_a faith_n be_v to_o believe_v that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n who_o make_v all_o thing_n and_o the_o last_o to_o believe_v that_o there_o be_v a_o everlasting_a or_o complete_a eternal_a happiness_n to_o be_v attain_v of_o man._n which_o two_o point_n be_v the_o alpha_n and_o omega_n of_o all_o religious_a faith_n and_o true_a religion_n and_o without_o a_o firm_a settle_n of_o these_o two_o in_o the_o heart_n it_o be_v impossible_a that_o any_o spark_n of_o devotion_n or_o the_o least_o mite_n of_o godliness_n shall_v be_v keep_v alive_a if_o either_o of_o these_o fail_n all_o be_v lose_v the_o holy_a scripture_n therefore_o be_v so_o plain_a and_o full_a in_o the_o declaration_n of_o this_o truth_n that_o god_n have_v prepare_v full_a and_o eternal_a joy_n in_o his_o presence_n for_o the_o righteous_a that_o we_o need_v not_o cite_v any_o particular_a passage_n for_o the_o proof_n of_o it_o for_o the_o whole_a body_n both_o of_o the_o law_n and_o gospel_n stand_v upon_o this_o bottom_n the_o sum_n of_o the_o law_n lie_v in_o this_o covenant_n do_v this_o and_o thou_o shall_v live_v i._n e._n thou_o shall_v live_v eternal_o and_o the_o sum_n of_o the_o gospel_n in_o this_o believe_v the_o truth_n of_o it_o in_o their_o own_o way_n which_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o do_v by_o two_o argument_n draw_v from_o the_o dictate_v of_o reason_n which_o if_o they_o be_v not_o demonstrative_a yet_o carry_v with_o they_o such_o a_o strength_n of_o probability_n as_o may_v make_v the_o most_o rational_a man_n doubt_n or_o fear_n that_o he_o do_v not_o only_o offend_v happiness_n seem_v to_o be_v very_o high_a and_o vast_a yet_o he_o that_o fill_v the_o vast_a sea_n he_o that_o fill_v the_o endless_a gulf_n of_o hunger_n both_o in_o man_n and_o beast_n he_o that_o fill_v the_o capacious_a comprehension_n of_o the_o angel_n it_o be_v easy_a for_o he_o to_o satisfy_v and_o fill_v this_o appetite_n of_o man._n and_o it_o be_v somewhat_o absurd_a according_a to_o the_o dictate_v of_o right_a reason_n to_o think_v that_o of_o all_o his_o creature_n god_n have_v create_v only_o the_o reasonable_a soul_n of_o man_n for_o a_o perpetual_a emptiness_n and_o have_v ordain_v no_o object_n to_o fill_v and_o satisfy_v it_o as_o it_o be_v plain_a he_o have_v not_o in_o this_o world_n and_o therefore_o we_o have_v good_a reason_n to_o believe_v that_o he_o have_v prepare_v for_o it_o full_a satisfy_a joy_n and_o eternal_a pleasure_n in_o another_o the_o transport_v expectation_n of_o which_o be_v the_o only_a true_a satisfy_a pleasure_n it_o can_v enjoy_v in_o this_o life_n that_o the_o pleasure_n of_o riches_n honour_n or_o bodily_a pleasure_n bear_v no_o proportion_n to_o it_o every_o man_n be_v own_o experience_n may_v convince_v he_o no_o they_o be_v so_o flit_a and_o uncertain_a so_o empty_a and_o unsatisfactory_a so_o mix_v and_o alloy_v that_o the_o most_o improve_v enjoyment_n of_o they_o be_v rather_o vanity_n and_o vexation_n of_o spirit_n as_o the_o wiseman_n speak_v than_o any_o true_a solid_a or_o satisfy_a delight_n but_o 2._o the_o second_o reason_n which_o we_o shall_v use_v to_o prove_v the_o propound_a truth_n be_v this_o if_o there_o be_v no_o fullness_n of_o joy_n and_o eternal_a pleasure_n in_o the_o presence_n of_o god_n which_o man_n shall_v seek_v as_o his_o end_n and_o may_v attain_v as_o his_o perfect_a happiness_n then_o the_o reasonable_a soul_n of_o man_n seem_v to_o be_v no_o better_o than_o a_o servant_n or_o slave_n to_o his_o sensual_a part_n and_o those_o advantage_n and_o excellency_n which_o we_o have_v above_o the_o beast_n be_v but_o as_o drudge_n for_o that_o part_n which_o we_o have_v in_o common_a with_o they_o for_o if_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n have_v not_o the_o eternal_a delight_n and_o contentment_n of_o a_o supernatural_a life_n with_o god_n for_o her_o utmost_a end_n then_o of_o necessity_n she_o must_v stoop_v down_o to_o this_o as_o her_o main_a end_n and_o seek_v the_o best_a delight_n this_o world_n afford_v without_o thought_n or_o regard_n of_o any_o other_o and_o what_o then_o serve_v our_o reason_n for_o but_o that_o we_o may_v with_o a_o little_a more_o height_n and_o strength_n of_o wit_n and_o part_n serve_v they_o for_o but_o as_o a_o help_n to_o wade_v far_o and_o deep_o into_o the_o mud_n of_o sensuality_n than_o the_o beast_n can_v do_v and_o indeed_o if_o there_o be_v no_o supernatural_a life_n for_o man_n who_o can_v blame_v they_o for_o so_o do_v or_o seek_v the_o best_a delight_n and_o contentment_n of_o this_o natural_a but_o be_v it_o possible_a that_o the_o reason_n of_o man_n shall_v digest_v such_o a_o baseness_n as_o this_o that_o she_o be_v for_o nothing_o else_o but_o for_o a_o slave_n and_o vassal_n for_o the_o sensitive_a part_n nothing_o methinks_v be_v more_o incongruous_a to_o reason_n than_o to_o think_v that_o the_o divinae_fw-la aurae_fw-la particula_fw-la the_o soul_n shall_v be_v give_v we_o only_o to_o serve_v such_o mean_a purpose_n as_o these_o be_v the_o rich_a and_o noble_a endowment_n of_o it_o capable_a of_o no_o better_o employ_v than_o to_o cater_n exquisite_o for_o the_o body_n they_o who_o can_v entertain_v such_o unbecoming_a thought_n of_o the_o excellency_n of_o their_o own_o nature_n show_v that_o their_o own_o folly_n have_v bring_v a_o great_a degeneracy_n upon_o they_o than_o the_o curse_v inflict_v upon_o adam_n fall_n we_o may_v reasonable_o conclude_v then_o that_o those_o excellency_n which_o man_n have_v above_o other_o creature_n be_v not_o give_v he_o to_o man_n do_v manage_v great_a and_o noble_a work_n about_o govern_v and_o rule_v and_o therefore_o though_o it_o shall_v have_v no_o supernatural_a happiness_n eternal_a in_o another_o life_n yet_o it_o can_v be_v say_v to_o be_v whole_o a_o servant_n and_o drudge_n for_o the_o sensual_a part._n but_o to_o this_o it_o may_v be_v answer_v first_o that_o the_o speculation_n and_o contemplation_n of_o or_o deny_v she_o such_o a_o end_n than_o all_o her_o act_n which_o be_v mere_o speculative_a and_o not_o profitable_a for_o this_o life_n be_v no_o better_o than_o unprofitable_a rambling_n and_o
