faithful_o to_o retain_v and_o earnest_o to_o contend_v for_o for_o ever_o so_o that_o here_o then_o we_o have_v a_o plain_a account_n what_o the_o true_a christian_a faith_n we_o be_v to_o profess_v be_v and_o where_o we_o be_v to_o seek_v it_o it_o be_v not_o the_o faith_n of_o this_o or_o that_o church_n or_o party_n it_o be_v not_o the_o faith_n of_o this_o or_o that_o country_n or_o century_n expression_n be_v very_o emphatical_a and_o imply_v a_o great_a vigour_n and_o earnestness_n in_o the_o do_n of_o it_o to_o teach_v we_o with_o what_o zeal_n we_o ought_v to_o adhere_v to_o the_o truth_n and_o defend_v it_o against_o all_o such_o as_o will_v endeavour_v either_o to_o affright_v or_o to_o seduce_v we_o from_o it_o indeed_o whosoever_o shall_v consider_v the_o great_a value_n of_o that_o faith_n which_o be_v once_o deliver_v to_o the_o saint_n and_o what_o our_o concern_n be_v in_o the_o preserve_n of_o it_o will_v be_v force_v to_o confess_v that_o we_o can_v never_o be_v too_o earnest_a in_o our_o contend_v for_o it_o truth_n be_v in_o all_o thing_n so_o worthy_a and_o desirable_a that_o a_o generous_a spirit_n will_v think_v he_o can_v never_o prize_v it_o enough_o we_o see_v the_o great_a man_n have_v make_v it_o the_o whole_a business_n of_o their_o life_n to_o pursue_v it_o even_o in_o the_o small_a instance_n and_o have_v think_v their_o labour_n worthy_o reward_v if_o with_o the_o great_a application_n and_o it_o may_v be_v with_o some_o danger_n and_o loss_n too_o they_o have_v but_o be_v able_a to_o find_v it_o out_o at_o the_o last_o much_o more_o certain_o ought_v that_o truth_n which_o the_o son_n of_o god_n himself_o come_v down_o from_o heaven_n to_o discover_v and_o which_o have_v he_o not_o reveal_v it_o to_o we_o
not_o see_v how_o any_o good_a christian_a can_v with_o a_o good_a conscience_n so_o frequent_o neglect_v in_o the_o mean_a time_n this_o be_v the_o sum_n of_o all_o he_o that_o despise_v this_o method_n i._o i_o will_v show_v what_o that_o honour_n be_v which_o the_o bless_a virgin_n be_v now_o capable_a of_o receive_v and_o which_o according_o we_o ourselves_o this_o day_n pay_v to_o her_o memory_n ii_o i_o will_v lay_v before_o you_o some_o instance_n of_o that_o additional_a worship_n which_o those_o of_o the_o other_o church_n pretend_v be_v due_a to_o she_o iii_o i_o will_v offer_v country_n and_o to_o certain_a person_n but_o the_o bless_a virgin_n be_v a_o universal_a cause_n the_o virtue_n of_o which_o extend_v over_o all_o place_n in_o all_o time_n to_o all_o sort_n of_o good_n or_o evil_n and_o to_o all_o sort_n of_o person_n her_o charity_n be_v in_o some_o sort_n infinite_a and_o have_v neither_o bound_n nor_o measure_n second_o that_o it_o be_v more_o efficacious_a the_o saint_n be_v not_o always_o hear_v nor_o do_v they_o always_o obtain_v what_o they_o desire_v but_o the_o bless_a virgin_n obtain_v whatsoever_o she_o demand_v and_o her_o word_n signify_v and_o then_o what_o can_v all_o this_o be_v but_o a_o most_o desperate_a superstition_n to_o give_v all_o those_o attribute_n the_o power_n the_o glory_n to_o a_o mere_a creature_n that_o be_v due_a only_a to_o god_n or_o if_o they_o do_v not_o what_o be_v it_o then_o but_o to_o mock_v both_o god_n and_o the_o bless_a virgin_n to_o compliment_v she_o with_o such_o title_n and_o ask_v of_o she_o such_o thing_n and_o offer_v she_o such_o praise_n by_o which_o at_o the_o same_o time_n they_o neither_o serious_o intend_v to_o signify_v any_o thing_n but_o on_o the_o contrary_a believe_v they_o shall_v be_v guilty_a of_o a_o great_a impiety_n shall_v they_o real_o mean_v what_o their_o word_n do_v certain_o denote_v and_o if_o this_o be_v the_o case_n as_o to_o the_o foundation_n of_o all_o that_o service_n which_o these_o votary_n of_o the_o bless_a virgin_n give_v she_o beyond_o we_o it_o must_v then_o necessary_o follow_v that_o their_o practice_n build_v upon_o it_o can_v have_v no_o very_o good_a establishment_n and_o i_o shall_v need_v say_v very_o little_a to_o apologise_v for_o our_o church_n in_o that_o other_o instance_n wherein_o we_o be_v think_v to_o be_v defective_a second_o in_o our_o action_n build_v upon_o these_o opinion_n now_o these_o may_v be_v reduce_v to_o three_o general_a point_n correspondent_a to_o the_o three_o instance_n i_o before_o lay_v down_o and_o upon_o which_o these_o action_n be_v found_v viz._n i._o of_o our_o not_o pray_v to_o she_o ii_o our_o not_o fly_v to_o her_o merit_n and_o intercession_n iii_o our_o not_o pay_v she_o those_o other_o expression_n of_o worship_n which_o those_o of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n allow_v so_o profuse_o to_o she_o for_o the_o first_o of_o these_o our_o not_o pray_v to_o the_o bless_a virgin_n i_o have_v already_o say_v that_o we_o look_v upon_o this_o to_o be_v a_o proper_a act_n of_o religious_a worship_n and_o such_o as_o do_v necessary_o imply_v a_o supposition_n of_o such_o excellency_n in_o she_o as_o can_v be_v suppose_v in_o any_o create_v be_v how_o great_a and_o glorious_a soever_o it_o may_v otherwise_o be_v and_o therefore_o that_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v reserve_v as_o sole_o due_a to_o that_o god_n who_o alone_o be_v infinite_a in_o power_n and_o knowledge_n and_o who_o alone_o by_o be_v present_a every_o where_o be_v every_o where_o fit_a to_o be_v call_v upon_o and_o this_o i_o say_v with_o reference_n to_o the_o very_a thing_n itself_o without_o consider_v what_o kind_n of_o prayer_n they_o be_v that_o be_v make_v to_o she_o but_o now_o second_o not_o only_o to_o call_v upon_o the_o bless_a virgin_n to_o pray_v for_o we_o but_o that_o she_o will_v herself_o aid_v and_o assist_v we_o and_o which_o it_o be_v evident_a that_o in_o many_o if_o not_o all_o the_o prayer_n of_o her_o office_n they_o do_v this_o do_v yet_o more_o increase_v the_o danger_n of_o such_o a_o service_n and_o yet_o more_o justify_v our_o refusal_n of_o it_o when_o therefore_o it_o shall_v be_v prove_v to_o we_o either_o that_o we_o can_v with_o faith_n call_v upon_o the_o bless_a virgin_n and_o yet_o not_o suppose_v that_o she_o be_v able_a either_o to_o hear_v our_o prayer_n or_o to_o answer_v our_o desire_n or_o that_o we_o can_v without_o impiety_n suppose_v that_o she_o can_v do_v either_o when_o it_o can_v be_v show_v that_o there_o be_v any_o manner_n of_o warrant_n in_o holy_a scripture_n or_o so_o much_o as_o encouragement_n to_o pray_v to_o she_o or_o that_o it_o be_v possible_a for_o any_o benefit_n to_o accrue_v to_o we_o by_o so_o do_v which_o we_o may_v not_o as_o certain_o and_o ready_o obtain_v by_o go_v immediate_o to_o the_o throne_n of_o grace_n through_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ._n in_o a_o word_n when_o it_o can_v be_v make_v appear_v to_o we_o either_o that_o prayer_n be_v not_o a_o proper_a act_n of_o religious_a worship_n or_o that_o all_o such_o act_n be_v not_o reserve_v by_o our_o holy_a religion_n as_o due_a to_o god_n only_o then_o will_v we_o be_v content_a that_o our_o adversary_n shall_v accuse_v we_o as_o enemy_n to_o the_o holy_a mary_n for_o not_o join_v with_o they_o in_o this_o service_n but_o till_o then_o this_o one_o consideration_n shall_v be_v of_o more_o moment_n with_o we_o than_o ten_o thousand_o of_o their_o anathema_n that_o see_v to_o pray_v to_o any_o
