that_o i_o have_v keep_v thy_o testimony_n herein_o sum_n we_o be_v to_o gather_v out_o of_o this_o place_n that_o if_o it_o so_o fall_v out_o when_o as_o we_o have_v walk_v upright_o and_o in_o a_o good_a conscience_n to_o be_v false_o slander_v to_o be_v accuse_v of_o this_o and_o that_o whereof_o we_o never_o once_o think_v yet_o ought_v we_o to_o bear_v all_o thing_n patient_o for_o let_v we_o be_v sure_a of_o that_o that_o we_o be_v not_o better_a than_o david_n although_o we_o will_v make_v never_o so_o great_a protestation_n of_o our_o integrity_n and_o purity_n david_n walk_v both_o before_o god_n and_o man_n so_o faithful_o as_o none_o of_o we_o all_o be_v able_a to_o do_v and_o yet_o we_o see_v that_o he_o be_v subject_a to_o these_o slanderous_a report_n let_v we_o then_o be_v patient_a when_o the_o like_a shall_v happen_v to_o us._n but_o let_v we_o also_o follow_v his_o example_n in_o that_o he_o say_v that_o be_v that_o we_o shall_v not_o be_v discourage_v see_v ourselves_o to_o be_v so_o evil_a and_o unjust_o recompense_v at_o man_n hand_n that_o we_o forbear_v not_o for_o all_o that_o to_o exercise_v ourselves_o in_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n and_o how_o shall_v we_o come_v by_o that_o patience_n we_o must_v come_v to_o that_o which_o he_o there_o speak_v off_o to_o wit_n that_o we_o take_v all_o our_o whole_a delight_n and_o pleasure_n in_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n it_o be_v the_o thing_n which_o he_o often_o beat_v upon_o before_o by_o i_o touch_v and_o therefore_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v needful_a to_o stay_v upon_o it_o any_o long_o let_v we_o only_o understand_v this_o when_o david_n say_v that_o all_o his_o pleasure_n be_v in_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n that_o we_o after_o his_o example_n must_v do_v the_o like_a he_o add_v they_o be_v my_o councillor_n loe_o here_o a_o sentence_n worthy_a to_o be_v weigh_v of_o we_o when_o david_n call_v the_o commandment_n of_o god_n his_o counsayler_n for_o in_o the_o first_o place_n he_o mean_v that_o he_o may_v scorn_v at_o all_o the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o most_o able_a and_o most_o expert_a man_n in_o the_o world_n how_o goodly_a and_o gay_a show_n soever_o their_o counsel_n seem_v to_o be_v to_o those_o which_o so_o exceed_o commend_v they_o and_o be_v also_o commend_v of_o all_o in_o that_o he_o be_v conduct_v by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n &_o govern_v thereby_o lo_o what_o he_o mean_v here_o by_o the_o first_o point_n the_o second_o be_v that_o when_o he_o shall_v be_v so_o govern_v by_o the_o word_n of_o god_n he_o may_v not_o only_o say_v that_o he_o be_v true_o wise_a but_o that_o it_o be_v so_o much_o as_o if_o he_o have_v all_o the_o wisdom_n of_o all_o the_o man_n in_o the_o world_n yea_o and_o a_o great_a deal_n more_o put_v even_o in_o one_o man_n when_o any_o one_o man_n mistrust_v his_o own_o wit_n he_o will_v ask_v council_n and_o arm_v himself_o the_o better_a and_o when_o he_o shall_v have_v use_v such_o counsel_n as_o every_o one_o shall_v sound_o give_v he_o he_o will_v hold_v himself_o a_o great_a deal_n the_o better_o resolve_v david_n then_o declare_v unto_o we_o that_o if_o we_o will_v not_o be_v without_o good_a counsel_n and_o advise_v we_o must_v follow_v the_o statute_n and_o ordinance_n of_o god_n but_o what_o few_o man_n at_o this_o day_n be_v able_a in_o truth_n thus_o to_o say_v every_o man_n will_v say_v the_o best_a for_o himself_o he_o can_v and_o yet_o it_o shall_v be_v all_o but_o a_o mere_a mockery_n how_o many_o of_o we_o be_v there_o which_o will_v be_v content_v to_o be_v govern_v as_o he_o be_v by_o this_o counsel_n we_o shall_v hardly_o find_v one_o among_o a_o hundred_o how_o do_v we_o just_o promise_v ourselves_o right_o to_o know_v that_o god_n have_v speak_v unto_o we_o and_o let_v it_o be_v that_o we_o be_v in_o the_o right_a way_n what_o assurance_n have_v we_o of_o it_o it_o can_v be_v choose_v but_o that_o the_o least_o let_v in_o the_o world_n will_v trouble_v we_o our_o spirit_n always_o great_o desire_v to_o be_v contrary_a to_o god_n we_o have_v great_a regard_n to_o the_o vain_a opinion_n and_o fantasy_n of_o man_n then_o to_o the_o heavenly_a doctrine_n so_o that_o we_o lend_v out_o ear_n to_o whatsoever_o man_n babble_n and_o be_v so_o carry_v with_o every_o wound_n that_o we_o know_v not_o what_o it_o be_v to_o hold_v ourselves_o to_o the_o counsel_n of_o god_n and_o so_o let_v we_o be_v advise_v to_o make_v out_o profit_n of_o this_o sentence_n beseech_v the_o lord_n to_o grant_v we_o that_o his_o grace_n that_o we_o may_v be_v govern_v by_o he_o and_o that_o with_o such_o humility_n and_o reverence_n as_o that_o whatsoever_o be_v set_v before_o we_o in_o this_o world_n we_o may_v always_o go_v on_o our_o way_n in_o true_a and_o invincible_a constancy_n and_o according_a to_o this_o holy_a doctrine_n let_v we_o prostrate_v out_o self_n before_o the_o face_n of_o our_o good_a god_n in_o acknowledge_v our_o fault_n beseech_v he_o that_o it_o will_v please_v he_o to_o govern_v we_o in_o such_o sort_n as_o that_o we_o look_v not_o down_o here_o on_o the_o earth_n ne_o yet_o stoop_v down_o to_o the_o corruptible_a thing_n of_o this_o world_n but_o that_o we_o may_v continual_o aspire_v unto_o this_o heavenly_a life_n where_o unto_o he_o daily_o call_v we_o by_o his_o word_n and_o for_o performance_n thereof_o to_o suffer_v we_o to_o be_v true_o unite_v to_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n yea_o and_o that_o with_o a_o inseparable_a bond_n as_o we_o may_v always_o follow_v the_o way_n which_o he_o have_v show_v unto_o we_o until_o such_o time_n as_o we_o be_v come_v to_o that_o immortal_a glory_n whereunto_o he_o have_v go_v before_o we_o to_o gather_v we_o all_o up_o unto_o he_o and_o to_o make_v we_o partaker_n of_o that_o blessedness_n which_o he_o have_v get_v and_o purchase_v by_o his_o death_n and_o passion_n and_o where_o of_o he_o will_v make_v we_o enheritour_n with_o he_o in_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n that_o he_o will_v not_o only_o grant_v we_o this_o grace_n and_o favour_n but_o also_o unto_o all_o people_n and_o nation_n of_o the_o earth_n etc._n etc._n the_o four_o but_o yet_o have_v i_o chief_o desire_v thy_o word_n &_o have_v even_o strive_v with_o myself_o to_o subdue_v all_o the_o evil_a affection_n of_o my_o flesh_n here_o we_o see_v what_o doctrine_n we_o have_v to_o gather_v unto_o ourselves_o out_o of_o this_o place_n to_o wit_n that_o if_o we_o will_v be_v the_o good_a scholar_n of_o god_n and_o take_v delight_n in_o the_o way_n of_o his_o testimony_n we_o must_v first_o subdue_v the_o lust_n of_o our_o flesh_n &_o not_o learn_v to_o be_v give_v to_o worldly_a thing_n neither_o yet_o to_o be_v nousle_v in_o that_o which_o we_o imagine_v to_o be_v the_o high_a point_n of_o our_o felicity_n but_o that_o we_o may_v understand_v to_o contemn_v riches_n &_o all_o other_o thing_n whatsoever_o which_o may_v withdraw_v we_o from_o our_o god_n and_o our_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n 3.8_o phil._n 3.8_o to_o make_v no_o more_o account_n of_o it_o then_o of_o dung_n and_o dirt_n as_o s._n paul_n say_v and_o yet_o it_o be_v most_o sure_a that_o david_n contemn_v not_o the_o riches_n which_o he_o have_v for_o be_v a_o mighty_a rich_a king_n as_o we_o know_v yet_o he_o cast_v not_o his_o gold_n &_o silver_n into_o the_o bottom_n of_o the_o sea_n but_o use_v of_o the_o abundance_n &_o store_n which_o god_n have_v give_v he_o yea_o we_o see_v what_o a_o excellent_a and_o beautiful_a house_n he_o have_v as_o the_o holy_a history_n tell_v us._n but_o yet_o he_o follow_v the_o rule_n which_o the_o scripture_n set_v down_o unto_o we_o which_o be_v that_o he_o so_o use_v the_o good_n of_o this_o world_n as_o though_o he_o never_o have_v they_o we_o must_v therefore_o pass_v through_o this_o world_n 7.31_o 1._o cor._n 7.31_o without_o stay_v ourselves_o altogether_o in_o it_o as_o s._n paul_n exhort_v that_o if_o god_n give_v we_o abundance_n of_o riches_n we_o may_v know_v how_o to_o use_v they_o with_o out_o have_v our_o heart_n imprison_v in_o they_o &_o yet_o notwithstanding_o to_o be_v poor_a in_o spirit_n to_o wit_n to_o be_v ready_a to_o forsake_v all_o whatsoever_o as_o often_o as_o god_n will_v have_v we_o to_o be_v rid_v of_o they_o &_o to_o have_v always_o one_o foot_n ready_a lift_v up_o to_o go_v unto_o he_o whensoever_o it_o shall_v be_v his_o will_n &_o pleasure_n to_o take_v we_o out_o of_o this_o world_n but_o it_o be_v not_o without_o cause_n that_o david_n have_v speak_v here_o of_o the_o abundance_n of_o riches_n for_o we_o see_v it_o make_v man_n covetous_a which_o be_v the_o springhead_n of_o all_o mischief_n as_o saint_n paul_n say_v 1â—_n 1._o tim._n 6_o 1â—_n forasmuch_o then_o as_o we_o be_v so_o much_o give_v to_o the_o good_n of_o this_o world_n and_o that_o we_o hold_v ourselves_o accurse_v if_o we_o have_v not_o wherewithal_o and_o they_o to_o be_v bless_v which_o be_v well_o furnish_v with_o they_o let_v we_o keep_v well_o the_o lesson_n which_o be_v here_o teach_v we_o to_o wit_n that_o all_o our_o desire_n must_v be_v in_o the_o way_n of_o the_o testimony_n of_o god_n as_o in_o all_o manner_n of_o riches_n to_o wit_n that_o all_o our_o delight_n and_o contentation_n be_v whole_o in_o they_o now_o in_o the_o end_n david_n go_v on_o and_o say_v i_o will_v meditate_v in_o thy_o commandment_n and_o consider_v thy_o way_n my_o delight_n shall_v be_v in_o thy_o statute_n &_o i_o will_v not_o forget_v thy_o word_n this_o be_v the_o conclusion_n to_o confirm_v the_o matter_n which_o we_o have_v already_o speak_v off_o for_o david_n here_o speak_v of_o no_o new_a matter_n but_o protest_v as_o he_o have_v begin_v that_o his_o delight_n shall_v be_v always_o in_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n &_o in_o the_o doctrine_n contain_v in_o the_o holy_a scripture_n and_o that_o he_o will_v bestow_v his_o whole_a study_n therein_o &_o so_o continue_v the_o same_o and_o never_o forget_v the_o desire_n which_o he_o have_v to_o profit_v in_o the_o obedience_n of_o god_n if_o david_n now_o have_v thus_o say_v let_v we_o understand_v that_o it_o be_v not_o enough_o for_o we_o to_o be_v well_o affect_v to_o serve_v god_n and_o that_o for_o the_o perform_v thereof_o that_o we_o have_v already_o sufficient_o travel_v but_o we_o must_v also_o be_v prick_v forward_o that_o we_o may_v always_o go_v on_o for_o even_o the_o very_a faithful_a never_o run_v with_o so_o fervent_a and_o hot_a a_o desire_n but_o that_o they_o continual_o draw_v one_o leg_n after_o they_o &_o never_o come_v unto_o god_n but_o in_o halt_v wise_a what_o be_v there_o then_o for_o we_o to_o do_v forsooth_o we_o must_v protest_v with_o david_n never_o to_o forget_v that_o which_o god_n have_v once_o declare_v unto_o we_o and_o also_o never_o to_o cease_v to_o prick_v ourselves_o on_o to_o the_o end_n there_o may_v be_v great_a vehemency_n in_o we_o to_o go_v unto_o he_o with_o a_o more_o servant_n desire_n and_o bold_a courage_n so_o that_o at_o the_o last_o we_o may_v grow_v to_o this_o perfection_n whereunto_o god_n call_v &_o allure_v we_o that_o be_v that_o be_v uncase_v from_o out_o of_o our_o flesh_n and_o nature_n he_o may_v full_o conjoin_v we_o unto_o his_o righteousness_n that_o thereby_o his_o glory_n may_v shine_v in_o us._n and_o according_a to_o this_o holy_a doctrine_n let_v we_o prostrate_v ourselves_o before_o the_o face_n of_o our_o good_a god_n acknowledge_v our_o innumerable_a sin_n by_o which_o we_o continual_o provoke_v his_o heavy_a wrath_n and_o indignation_n against_o us._n beseech_v he_o that_o it_o will_v please_v he_o to_o make_v we_o to_o feel_v our_o sin_n and_o iniquity_n more_o than_o ever_o to_o fore_o we_o have_v do_v to_o the_o end_n we_o may_v seek_v for_o such_o remedy_n as_o he_o have_v ordain_v for_o we_o in_o exercise_v ourselves_o about_o the_o read_n of_o his_o holy_a word_n and_o the_o daily_o preach_v thereof_o which_o have_v grant_v unto_o us._n and_o furthermore_o not_o to_o forget_v to_o stir_v we_o up_o to_o call_v upon_o he_o to_o the_o end_n that_o by_o his_o holy_a spirit_n he_o may_v to_o put_v his_o help_a hand_n even_o in_o our_o heart_n and_o not_o too_o suffer_v the_o doctrine_n which_o we_o hear_v by_o the_o mouth_n of_o his_o preacher_n to_o become_v unprofitable_a unto_o we_o but_o that_o it_o may_v have_v the_o full_a power_n &_o strength_n so_o that_o we_o may_v from_o day_n to_o day_n be_v confirm_v therein_o and_o more_o and_o more_o learn_v to_o forsake_v the_o world_n and_o all_o whatsoever_o may_v withdraw_v we_o from_o the_o union_n and_o conjunction_n of_o our_o lord_n and_o master_n jesus_n christ_n who_o be_v our_o head_n and_o that_o he_o will_v not_o only_o show_v unto_o we_o this_o favour_n and_o grace_n but_o also_o unto_o all_o people_n and_o nation_n of_o the_o earth_n etc._n etc._n the_o three_o sermon_n of_o the_o there_o be_v which_o think_v upon_o it_o true_a it_o be_v that_o every_o man_n will_v say_v that_o it_o be_v good_a reason_n we_o shall_v do_v homage_n too_o god_n for_o our_o life_n and_o be_v because_o we_o hold_v all_o of_o he_o and_o that_o we_o shall_v glorify_v he_o with_o so_o much_o of_o our_o good_n as_o he_o have_v large_o bestow_v upon_o us._n but_o what_o of_o all_o this_o when_o as_o we_o have_v confess_v that_o it_o be_v but_o to_o show_v our_o ingratitude_n and_o unthankfulness_n and_o yet_o no_o man_n make_v any_o account_n hereof_o loe_o here_o wherefore_o the_o holy_a ghost_n see_v we_o so_o tie_v to_o the_o world_n put_v we_o in_o mind_n too_o what_o end_n we_o live_v here_o as_o here_o david_n make_v this_o request_n to_o god_n too_o obtain_v that_o benefit_n of_o his_o majesty_n that_o he_o night_n live_v and_o keep_v his_o word_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v say_v i_o desire_v
he_o say_v o_o lord_n open_v my_o eye_n that_o i_o may_v see_v the_o wondrous_a thing_n of_o thy_o law_n wherefore_o use_v he_o this_o word_n wondrous_a it_o be_v as_o if_o he_o will_v have_v save_o say_a although_o the_o world_n take_v the_o law_n of_o god_n to_o be_v but_o a_o light_a thing_n and_o seem_v to_o be_v give_v but_o as_o it_o be_v for_o simple_a soul_n &_o young_a child_n yet_o for_o all_o that_o there_o seem_v such_o a_o wisdom_n to_o be_v in_o it_o as_o that_o it_o surmount_v all_o the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o world_n and_o that_o therein_o lie_v hide_v wonderful_a secret_n asmuch_o be_v say_v of_o the_o gospel_n and_o that_o not_o without_o great_a cause_n and_o in_o very_a deed_n that_o which_o at_o this_o day_n be_v most_o plain_o declare_v in_o the_o gospel_n be_v before_o contain_v in_o the_o law_n only_o these_o be_v dark_a shadow_n than_o they_o be_v which_o be_v since_o the_o come_n of_o our_o lord_n jesus_n christ_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o there_o be_v no_o change_n or_o alteration_n in_o this_o wisdom_n as_o god_n also_o be_v not_o mutable_a 1.12_o ephes_n 3.10_o 1._o pet._n 1.12_o it_o be_v not_o then_o without_o cause_n that_o all_o the_o holy_a scripture_n be_v call_v wisdom_n and_o that_o the_o angel_n of_o heaven_n themselves_o do_v wonder_v thereat_o if_o then_o the_o angel_n be_v astoyn_v at_o the_o secret_n contain_v in_o the_o holy_a scripture_n i_o beseech_v you_o tell_v i_o what_o reverence_n deserve_v it_o to_o have_v among_o we_o mortal_a man_n for_o we_o be_v but_o poor_a worm_n upon_o earth_n creep_v here_o below_o david_n that_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o law_n be_v not_o as_o we_o take_v it_o to_o be_v to_o wit_n a_o thing_n of_o small_a valour_n or_o a_o common_a and_o ordinary_a doctrine_n but_o a_o wonderful_a wisdom_n wherein_o be_v such_o secret_n as_o aught_o to_o ravish_v we_o with_o admiration_n because_o they_o far_o surpass_v our_o wit_n and_o reason_n but_o what_o be_v the_o cause_n that_o we_o so_o light_o esteem_v of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n that_o be_v to_o say_v his_o whole_a word_n herein_o the_o common_a proverb_n be_v verify_v when_o we_o say_v a_o fool_n regard_v nothing_o which_o proverb_n we_o declare_v to_o be_v right_o verify_v in_o we_o for_o many_o of_o we_o make_v no_o estimation_n of_o the_o holy_a scripture_n &_o it_o seem_v to_o we_o that_o that_o which_o we_o read_v there_o be_v too_o to_o common_a and_o this_o be_v the_o reason_n because_o we_o know_v not_o what_o it_o be_v â—â—e_z yet_o the_o great_a and_o abundant_a treasure_n hide_v therein_o but_o such_o as_o have_v once_o know_v what_o the_o majesty_n of_o god_n be_v which_o he_o show_v and_o declare_v himself_o to_o be_v there_o and_o do_v see_v whether_o it_o be_v that_o have_v rather_o have_v no_o mention_n in_o the_o whole_a world_n make_v of_o he_o and_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o without_o cause_n why_o david_n require_v not_o to_o have_v the_o commandment_n of_o god_n take_v from_o he_o &_o this_o be_v his_o reason_n to_o wit_n because_o he_o be_v a_o stranger_n on_o the_o earth_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v say_v o_o lord_n if_o i_o have_v none_o other_o will_v so_o humble_v himself_o as_o to_o advise_v we_o when_o we_o have_v any_o thing_n to_o do_v among_o man_n about_o the_o earthly_a affair_n of_o this_o transitory_a life_n let_v we_o also_o beseech_v he_o to_o do_v we_o this_o good_a as_o to_o conduct_v we_o likewise_o according_a to_o his_o law_n loe_o here_o how_o we_o may_v come_v from_o the_o lesser_a to_o the_o great_a we_o may_v also_o descend_v from_o particularity_n to_o generality_n when_o as_o we_o shall_v say_v o_o lord_n thou_o have_v hear_v i_o in_o such_o a_o thing_n which_o be_v a_o special_a matter_n now_o by_o a_o more_o forcible_a reason_n i_o may_v call_v upon_o thou_o for_o a_o thing_n which_o may_v serve_v i_o all_o the_o day_n of_o my_o life_n which_o be_v that_o when_o thou_o have_v set_v i_o into_o the_o way_n of_o salvation_n thou_o will_v keep_v i_o therein_o and_o that_o thou_o never_o forsake_v i_o until_o such_o time_n as_o thou_o have_v bring_v i_o unto_o that_o end_n and_o perfection_n whereunto_o thou_o have_v call_v i_o it_o follow_v make_v i_o to_o understand_v the_o way_n of_o thy_o commandment_n and_o i_o will_v meditate_v of_o thy_o wondrous_a work_v mark_v here_o the_o third_o reason_n which_o david_n allege_v to_o obtain_v of_o god_n that_o he_o may_v be_v teach_v in_o his_o law_n o_o lord_n say_v he_o make_v i_o to_o understande_v the_o way_n of_o thy_o commandment_n and_o so_o shall_v i_o talk_v of_o thy_o wondrous_a work_v as_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v say_v o_o lord_n if_o it_o be_v thy_o good_a pleasure_n instruct_v i_o according_a to_o thy_o will_n and_o it_o shall_v not_o serve_v for_o myself_o only_o but_o also_o for_o my_o neighbour_n for_o i_o will_v endeavour_v myself_o to_o bring_v also_o other_o unto_o thou_o and_o thus_o we_o ought_v to_o use_v the_o grace_n and_o gift_n of_o god_n to_o wit_n that_o they_o be_v not_o as_o it_o be_v bury_v in_o we_o but_o that_o we_o may_v also_o profit_v our_o neighbour_n
