1_o tim._n 1._o for_o he_o affirm_v the_o law_n be_v not_o give_v to_o the_o righteous_a but_o to_o the_o disobedient_a etc._n etc._n a._n this_o be_v answer_v by_o the_o same_o place_n verse_n 5._o as_o in_o the_o first_o question_n i_o say_v the_o sun_n be_v it_o be_v not_o give_v to_o the_o righteous_a as_o to_o the_o ungodly_a for_o the_o righteous_a need_n it_o not_o so_o howbeit_o it_o be_v give_v to_o the_o godly_a also_o for_o another_o end_n 3.19_o gal._n 3.19_o even_o to_o direct_v they_o for_o the_o law_n in_o god_n purpose_n serve_v for_o two_o end_n the_o for_o transgression_n also_o he_o intend_v to_o the_o draw_v of_o they_o out_o of_o their_o ignorance_n for_o as_o we_o see_v that_o the_o law_n be_v give_v in_o all_o terror_n and_o not_o as_o a_o messenger_n of_o good_a thing_n so_o the_o lord_n teach_v thereby_o that_o it_o ought_v to_o speak_v sad_o as_o a_o minister_n of_o death_n to_o the_o ungodly_a and_o so_o it_o do_v in_o some_o sort_n with_o such_o as_o be_v save_v among_o the_o jew_n the_o ministry_n of_o it_o convince_a they_o of_o a_o impossibility_n of_o performance_n of_o it_o and_o send_v they_o to_o the_o bless_a seed_n who_o shall_v bring_v in_o righteousness_n and_o break_v the_o serpent_n head_n and_o to_o such_o this_o law_n cease_v to_o be_v a_o kill_a letter_n and_o begin_v to_o be_v a_o cirection_n to_o life_n in_o which_o sense_n we_o here_o treat_v of_o it_o as_o in_o the_o first_o part_n of_o the_o catechism_n of_o the_o former_a q._n but_o what_o need_v this_o law-direction_n do_v we_o not_o by_o this_o teach_v people_n to_o serve_v in_o the_o old_a letter_n and_o destroy_v that_o law_n of_o liberty_n in_o christ_n which_o ought_v to_o be_v set_v up_o and_o restore_v the_o covenant_n which_o ought_v to_o be_v abolish_v a._n to_o answer_v both_o first_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o give_v his_o church_n to_o christ_n nor_o give_v they_o any_o such_o liberty_n in_o christ_n as_o to_o devise_v a_o way_n to_o themselves_o feverall_a either_o for_o measure_n or_o number_n or_o matter_n of_o obedience_n from_o his_o own_o way_n neither_o will_v trust_v man_n with_o any_o such_o no_o nor_o give_v the_o least_o hint_n to_o man_n corrupt_a invention_n but_o that_o law_n of_o obedience_n which_o he_o first_o himself_n devise_v he_o mean_v it_o for_o those_o that_o shall_v believe_v both_o before_o at_z and_o after_o the_o come_n of_o christ_n and_o mean_v not_o to_o alter_v it_o how_o christ_n rule_v by_o it_o ●e_v shall_v hear_v anon_o but_o he_o rule_v by_o no_o other_o and_o its_o worth_n our_o note_n that_o the_o first_o sermon_n he_o ever_o preach_v mat._n 5._o and_o 6_o and_o 7._o he_o urge_v nothing_o more_o than_o this_o think_v you_o i_o be_o come_v to_o destroy_v the_o law_n no_o but_o to_o fulfil_v it_o and_o to_o settle_v it_o for_o the_o second_o point_n i_o say_v that_o it_o must_v be_v explayn_v what_o it_o be_v to_o serve_v in_o the_o letter_n and_o second_o what_o it_o be_v to_o restore_v that_o which_o be_v wear_v out_o to_o serve_v in_o the_o letter_n then_o be_v to_o be_v mistake_v in_o the_o scope_n of_o the_o law_n do_v this_o and_o live_v to_o think_v that_o the_o law_n give_v life_n to_o the_o obeyer_n of_o the_o letter_n of_o it_o and_o to_o think_v a_o man_n may_v of_o himself_o obey_v it_o and_o be_v save_v by_o it_o whereas_o the_o law_n import_v no_o such_o thing_n but_o urge_v a_o obedience_n exact_o part_n gal._n 3.21_o ●atter_n part_n which_o be_v impossible_a now_o to_o serve_v thus_o be_v to_o serve_v like_o a_o slave_n without_o reward_n thus_o do_v not_o we_o affirm_v the_o law_n to_o be_v serve_v second_o to_o restore_v a_o law_n to_o be_v abolish_v be_v to_o maintain_v this_o error_n that_o by_o the_o law_n of_o moses_n a_o man_n may_v be_v
