righteousness_n they_o do_v attain_v unto_o 3._o what_o be_v their_o temptation_n to_o seek_v their_o salvation_n in_o this_o way_n 4._o what_o confidence_n they_o have_v in_o their_o own_o righteousness_n 5._o how_o they_o do_v to_o hide_v it_o from_o themselves_o that_o they_o trust_v in_o their_o own_o righteousness_n 6._o the_o vanity_n of_o man_n trust_v to_o their_o own_o righteousness_n the_o first_o thing_n to_o be_v consider_v be_v who_o they_o be_v that_o seek_v salvation_n by_o their_o own_o righteousness_n but_o before_o i_o give_v you_o their_o character_n it_o will_v be_v needful_a to_o premise_v two_o thing_n 1._o they_o that_o seek_v salvation_n by_o their_o own_o righteousness_n do_v not_o expect_v salvation_n from_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n as_o it_o require_v perfect_a obedience_n in_o order_n unto_o life_n they_o dare_v not_o adventure_v their_o soul_n on_o the_o strictness_n of_o the_o law_n though_o they_o have_v need_v to_o do_v so_o if_o they_o seek_v life_n by_o their_o own_o work_n but_o they_o do_v not_o thus_o they_o look_v upon_o their_o righteousness_n as_o that_o which_o will_v allay_v the_o anger_n of_o god_n and_o be_v a_o inducement_n unto_o god_n to_o save_v they_o that_o which_o will_v win_v the_o goodwill_n of_o god_n and_o draw_v the_o heart_n of_o god_n to_o they_o yea_o they_o look_v upon_o their_o righteousness_n as_o that_o which_o will_v bring_v god_n in_o their_o debt_n that_o god_n be_v behold_v to_o they_o for_o their_o service_n yet_o they_o do_v not_o lay_v claim_n to_o blessedness_n by_o the_o strictness_n of_o the_o law_n for_o they_o know_v and_o confess_v themselves_o to_o be_v sinner_n they_o pray_v for_o forgiveness_n which_o thing_n be_v inconsistent_a with_o justification_n by_o their_o own_o work_n the_o jew_n do_v not_o stand_v upon_o a_o strict_a covenant_n of_o work_n rom._n 9.31_o 32_o they_o seek_v it_o as_o it_o be_v by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n but_o these_o man_n do_v make_v such_o a_o mixture_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n with_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n wherein_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n be_v predominant_a they_o make_v some_o profession_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o yet_o adhere_v to_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n therefore_o the_o apostle_n tell_v they_o that_o if_o they_o be_v circumcise_v christ_n shall_v profit_v they_o nothing_o gal._n 5.2_o they_o make_v account_v to_o have_v some_o benefit_n by_o christ_n so_o they_o make_v account_v to_o have_v some_o benefit_n by_o grace_n therefore_o the_o
