beside_o manifold_o more_o in_o scripture_n but_o even_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n necessitate_v to_o it_o whether_o we_o consider_v god_n or_o ourselves_o our_o soul_n special_o 1._o god_n be_v our_o creator_n not_o of_o our_o soul_n only_o but_o also_o of_o our_o body_n and_o lord_n of_o all_o that_o man_n have_v the_o glorify_v of_o he_o both_o with_o the_o soul_n and_o body_n too_o be_v and_o must_v needs_o be_v acknowledge_v the_o principal_a end_n of_o man_n creation_n for_o god_n make_v man_n as_o all_o thing_n else_o principal_o for_o himself_o for_o his_o own_o glory_n and_o so_o it_o can_v be_v enough_o that_o man_n shall_v serve_v and_o worship_n he_o by_o the_o by_o only_o or_o by_o fit_n and_o snatch_v mere_o in_o ejaculatory_a worship_n while_o they_o be_v main_o busy_v and_o which_o be_v the_o soul_n happiness_n can_v be_v have_v no_o not_o such_o as_o this_o life_n be_v capable_a of_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o worldly_a employment_n though_o a_o man_n do_v now_o and_o that_o a_o day_n which_o when_o we_o speak_v of_o we_o mean_v for_o continuance_n a_o day_n together_o be_v of_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n which_o be_v more_o than_o we_o yet_o have_v say_v yet_o soon_o after_o like_o man_n that_o have_v tread_v upon_o a_o quagmire_n or_o a_o serpent_n they_o step_v back_o again_o and_o as_o have_v grant_v more_o than_o they_o can_v well_o afford_v we_o or_o then_o indeed_o will_v well_o stand_v with_o their_o cause_n they_o fall_v off_o again_o to_o mere_a general_n and_o uncertainty_n under_o the_o notion_n of_o a_o sufficient_a and_o convenient_a every_o day_n but_o at_o least_o every_o month_n as_o a_o necessary_a proportion_n to_o be_v give_v to_o god_n and_o that_o less_o at_o once_o every_o month_n or_o seldome_a so_o much_o as_o a_o any_o other_o business_n for_o if_o sleep_n be_v so_o necessary_a as_o it_o be_v ordinary_o to_o all_o man_n within_o that_o time_n which_o be_v a_o most_o formal_a interruption_n or_o break_v of_o according_o be_v able_a to_o worship_n god_n even_o solemn_o so_o often_o there_o be_v no_o impediment_n imaginable_a why_o within_o the_o revolution_n of_o every_o day_n a_o man_n may_v not_o give_v god_n some_o solemn_a worship_n but_o we_o say_v though_o this_o seem_v a_o fair_a assertion_n and_o suitable_a to_o what_o we_o have_v before_o of_o the_o natural_a continuance_n of_o a_o day_n yet_o if_o we_o shall_v speak_v practical_o and_o ethical_o as_o we_o do_v partly_o before_o of_o the_o continuance_n we_o must_v deliver_v ourselves_o somewhat_o otherwise_o and_o indeed_o so_o we_o must_v also_o in_o a_o mere_a physical_a or_o astronomical_a consideration_n of_o the_o revolution_n of_o a_o day_n and_o 1._o least_o xxxii_o twice_o a_o day_n at_o least_o then_o in_o that_o and_o the_o dependence_n they_o have_v upon_o he_o continual_o without_o who_o sin_n and_o misery_n will_v at_o all_o seiason_n seze_v upon_o they_o and_o again_o forgetful_a that_o their_o spiritual_a happiness_n lie_v in_o he_o converse_v with_o he_o and_o pursue_v and_o enjoy_v his_o favour_n and_o then_o we_o suppose_v the_o issue_n of_o their_o religious_a and_o conscientious_a thought_n will_v be_v no_o other_o then_o that_o rather_o more_o and_o often_o than_o seldomer_n and_o less_o be_v due_a to_o god_n and_o necessary_a for_o they_o and_o their_o family_n for_o their_o own_o good_a of_o soul_n and_o body_n spiritual_a and_o even_o temporal_a namely_o to_o secure_v a_o blessing_n upon_o themselves_o every_o way_n daily_o frequency_n xxxv_o nature_n can_v make_v a_o conclusive_a determination_n of_o the_o frequency_n but_o to_o return_v to_o our_o question_n whether_o thus_o often_o by_o a_o conclusive_a determination_n of_o the_o frequency_n for_o solemn_a worship_n and_o that_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n do_v require_v no_o often_o then_o twice_o a_o day_n beside_o that_o if_o that_o be_v good_a which_o we_o have_v but_o now_o discourse_v of_o twice_o require_v for_o solitary_a worship_n and_o twice_o for_o family_n worship_n also_o we_o have_v already_o get_v to_o four_o time_n a_o day_n instead_o of_o twice_o we_o add_v yet_o further_o that_o we_o can_v absolute_o rest_v here_o for_o a_o certain_a definite_a and_o determinate_a number_n or_o frequency_n for_o if_o we_o speak_v still_o practical_o as_o we_o must_v in_o matter_n of_o religion_n these_o determination_n of_o twice_o or_o four_o time_n every_o day_n will_v not_o infallible_o satisfy_v the_o law_n of_o nature_n nor_o indeed_o any_o other_o number_n of_o frequency_n that_o can_v be_v name_v and_o so_o in_o a_o word_n we_o say_v that_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n can_v possible_o make_v a_o conclusive_a determination_n of_o the_o frequency_n of_o time_n consider_v simple_o for_o god_n worship_n that_o be_v that_o so_o often_o shall_v be_v peremptory_o necessary_a for_o all_o man_n and_o no_o often_o and_o so_o that_o so_o often_o shall_v be_v sufficient_a for_o all_o man_n general_o consider_v it_o the_o reason_n of_o it_o although_o some_o particular_n may_v be_v yet_o oblige_v to_o some_o what_o often_o the_o reason_n hereof_o be_v plain_o this_o that_o practical_o it_o be_v possible_a to_o observe_v a_o revolution_n of_o time_n wherein_o we_o may_v if_o we_o have_v heart_n to_o it_o set_v ourselves_o to_o worship_n god_n even_o solemn_o as_o oft_o as_o our_o mind_n cease_v from_o be_v take_v up_o whole_o with_o any_o worldly_a business_n and_o that_o such_o business_n will_v by_o any_o mean_n admit_v a_o interruption_n of_o a_o minute_n or_o half_o a_o minute_n to_o lift_v up_o the_o soul_n to_o god_n in_o prayer_n or_o praise_n and_o this_o may_v possible_o be_v manifold_a time_n in_o a_o day_n even_o innumerable_a before_o hand_n and_o now_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n from_o those_o often_o mention_v and_o ever_o to_o be_v think_v on_o acknowledgement_n of_o god_n be_v our_o sovereign_a lord_n and_o of_o all_o our_o time_n and_o our_o happiness_n and_o so_o to_o be_v infinite_o prefer_v before_o ourselves_o and_o all_o our_o worldly_a business_n will_v be_v constant_o call_v upon_o we_o in_o all_o those_o revolution_n of_o time_n to_o â—ender_v to_o he_o some_o worship_n how_o short_a soever_o and_o from_o this_o no_o consideration_n of_o god_n not_o only_a dispensation_n but_o command_v to_o employ_v ourselves_o in_o worldly_a calling_n and_o perform_v such_o worldly_a business_n as_o be_v necessary_a according_o can_v be_v pretend_v to_o be_v a_o sufficient_a discharge_n absolute_o and_o always_o for_o we_o have_v before_o prove_v in_o the_o chapter_n of_o solemn_a worship_n and_o it_o be_v not_o deny_v by_o any_o that_o we_o know_v that_o it_o be_v oftentimes_o a_o duty_n which_o we_o now_o say_v be_v according_a to_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n not_o only_o in_o the_o midst_n of_o worldly_a business_n to_o tender_v some_o ejaculatory_a worship_n to_o god_n namely_o prayer_n and_o praise_n but_o even_o upon_o sundry_a occasion_n to_o interrupt_v for_o a_o little_a while_n our_o worldly_a business_n whole_o to_o pray_v to_o he_o and_o praise_v he_o somewhat_o solemn_o therefore_o we_o say_v again_o that_o these_o occasion_n be_v impossible_a to_o be_v number_v beforehand_o for_o any_o one_o man_n and_o much_o less_o for_o all_o general_o there_o can_v be_v no_o certain_a conclusive_a determination_n of_o the_o frequency_n by_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n that_o just_a so_o often_o and_o no_o often_o shall_v be_v necessary_a for_o solemn_a worship_v of_o god_n by_o all_o man_n and_o now_o from_o this_o we_o go_v on_o to_o our_o three_o question_n propound_v joint_o xxxvi_o nature_n can_v make_v a_o conclusive_a determination_n of_o the_o continuance_n and_o frequency_n joint_o nature_n will_v not_o then_o tell_v we_o that_o there_o must_v be_v such_o a_o determination_n necessary_o make_v for_o religion_n and_o what_o condition_n and_o qualification_n it_o must_v have_v and_o so_o consequent_o where_o we_o be_v to_o seek_v it_o and_o may_v be_v like_a or_o certain_a to_o find_v it_o in_o answer_v whereunto_o party_n 1._o confess_v by_o the_o adverse_a party_n we_o have_v in_o the_o first_o branch_n of_o this_o question_n though_o it_o be_v so_o but_o in_o a_o few_o point_n beside_o about_o the_o main_a matter_n in_o the_o whole_a argument_n our_o anti-sabbatarians_a full_a and_o constant_a agreement_n with_o we_o namely_o in_o resolution_n of_o this_o inquirie_n in_o the_o conclusion_n though_o not_o altogether_o in_o the_o argument_n prove_v it_o that_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n do_v not_o make_v any_o such_o conclusive_a determination_n of_o both_o the_o respect_n of_o time_n the_o continuance_n and_o frequency_n joint_o for_o god_n worship_n so_o we_o suppose_v that_o it_o do_v not_o nor_o can_v and_o so_o they_o say_v the_o same_o in_o sense_n with_o much_o earnestness_n in_o as_o much_o as_o they_o make_v it_o their_o principal_a argument_n against_o the_o four_o commandment_n be_v moral_a for_o one_o day_n in_o seven_o because_o say_v they_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n do_v not_o command_v any_o such_o thing_n which_o argument_n of_o they_o as_o appliable_a against_o the_o morality_n of_o one_o day_n in_o seven_o though_o we_o deny_v the_o consequence_n of_o as_o take_v moral_a to_o be_v that_o which_o be_v universal_a and_o perpetual_a though_o it_o be_v not_o of_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n whereas_o they_o by_o moral_a will_v only_o understand_v morall-naturall_a as_o we_o have_v show_v in_o the_o first_o chapter_n yet_o we_o take_v hold_v of_o the_o antecedent_n that_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n do_v not_o command_v any_o such_o thing_n neither_o the_o determinate_a proportion_n of_o continuance_n in_o such_o a_o frequency_n nor_o any_o other_o that_o be_v not_o distinct_o strict_o and_o conclusive_o and_o that_o they_o not_o hereafter_o recede_v from_o it_o we_o will_v make_v bold_a with_o the_o reader_n patience_n to_o prove_v it_o ourselves_o also_o upon_o our_o own_o ground_n that_o so_o hope_v to_o build_v very_o considerable_o upon_o it_o by_o and_o by_o we_o may_v a_o conclusive_a determination_n former_o give_v namely_o that_o as_o it_o require_v strict_o so_o much_o so_o oft_o and_o so_o oft_o so_o much_o as_o be_v express_v so_o it_o require_v not_o any_o more_o so_o oft_o nor_o so_o much_o any_o often_o than_o be_v express_v 2._o from_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n be_v the_o ground_n of_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n and_o so_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n require_v no_o great_a proportion_n of_o continuance_n and_o frequency_n joint_o than_o the_o light_n of_o naaure_n must_v needs_o judge_v be_v sufficient_a for_o if_o it_o judge_v that_o unsufficient_a than_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n according_o straight_o will_v require_v more_o and_o often_o and_o so_o the_o conclusive_a determination_n be_v not_o make_v till_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n have_v judge_v the_o proportion_n sufficient_a and_o that_o be_v not_o to_o be_v do_v there_o be_v no_o such_o determination_n make_v by_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n the_o antecedent_n be_v easy_o prove_v by_o appeal_n to_o the_o former_a principle_n of_o the_o light_n and_o law_n of_o nature_n of_o god_n be_v the_o sovereign_a lord_n of_o we_o and_o all_o our_o time_n and_o our_o happiness_n for_o what_o can_v be_v say_v to_o satisfy_v these_o principle_n and_o to_o argue_v that_o sufficient_a time_n be_v give_v to_o god_n unless_o he_o have_v all_o where_o all_o that_o a_o man_n have_v be_v due_a to_o another_o that_o debt_n be_v not_o satisfy_v neither_o can_v it_o be_v judge_v to_o be_v satisfy_v unless_o all_o be_v tender_v to_o he_o also_o where_o a_o man_n whole_a happiness_n lie_v less_o than_o all_o his_o time_n can_v be_v judge_v sufficient_a to_o be_v employ_v towards_o that_o for_o what_o can_v be_v pretend_v to_o draw_v a_o man_n away_o from_o his_o happiness_n when_o all_o that_o a_o man_n do_v be_v but_o towards_o that_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n than_o can_v judge_v less_o than_o all_o a_o man_n time_n to_o be_v sufficient_a to_o be_v give_v to_o god_n and_o bestow_v in_o wait_v upon_o he_o and_o converse_v with_o he_o if_o it_o be_v say_v that_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n will_v tell_v every_o man_n answer_v xxxviii_o a_o objection_n answer_v that_o he_o can_v live_v if_o he_o devote_v all_o his_o time_n to_o wait_v upon_o god_n solemn_o we_o answer_v 1._o this_o will_v infer_v no_o more_o then_o that_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n upon_o that_o ground_n make_v a_o reservation_n for_o natural_a necessity_n of_o sleep_n and_o eat_v and_o such_o like_a and_o so_o provide_v necessary_n mere_o for_o preservation_n of_o a_o man_n bodily_a life_n and_o still_o call_v for_o all_o the_o rest_n of_o the_o time_n 2._o that_o it_o be_v altogether_o uncertain_a by_o any_o rule_n or_o principle_n of_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n how_o much_o time_n be_v altogether_o absolute_o necessary_a for_o those_o natural_a necessity_n of_o the_o body_n it_o help_v to_o make_v it_o impossible_a for_o a_o man_n by_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n to_o say_v that_o such_o continuance_n and_o frequency_n of_o time_n whatsoever_o can_v be_v suppose_v be_v sufficient_a for_o god_n for_o if_o nature_n can_v give_v more_o this_o be_v not_o sufficient_a and_o it_o be_v still_o uncertain_a whether_o nature_n can_v give_v more_o or_o else_o it_o will_v be_v uncertain_a whether_o nature_n can_v give_v so_o much_o leave_v room_n for_o those_o natural_a necessity_n of_o the_o body_n we_o conclude_v then_o that_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n neither_o do_v nor_o can_v determine_v the_o necessary_a sufficient_a chief_a time_n for_o continuance_n and_o frequency_n joint_o and_o so_o that_o we_o be_v so_o far_o from_o assert_v that_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n determine_v we_o to_o one_o in_o seven_o or_o that_o one_o day_n in_o seven_o according_a to_o the_o four_o commandment_n be_v morall-naturall_a as_o the_o sufficient_a time_n conclusive_o determine_v for_o religion_n that_o we_o say_v the_o law_n of_o nature_n will_v rather_o command_v more_o often_o a_o day_n or_o more_o than_o that_o proportion_n of_o fourteen_o or_o sixteen_o hour_n of_o a_o week_n and_o call_v for_o one_o day_n of_o every_o six_o or_o five_o or_o four_o or_o three_o or_o each_o other_o day_n or_o half_o or_o more_o of_o every_o day_n but_o indeed_o none_o of_o all_o this_o certain_o or_o conclusive_o because_o as_o we_o say_v the_o light_n of_o nature_n can_v in_o no_o wise_n determine_v how_o much_o be_v sufficient_a for_o religion_n or_o how_o much_o worldly_a necessity_n can_v possible_o admit_v our_o antisabbatarian-adversary_n therefore_o may_v hereafter_o spare_v their_o argument_n whereby_o they_o labour_v to_o prove_v the_o four_o commandment_n for_o one_o day_n in_o seven_o not_o to_o be_v god_n have_v give_v none_o and_o they_o sin_n on_o the_o other_o hand_n if_o they_o deny_v authority_n unto_o those_o to_o who_o god_n have_v give_v it_o or_o if_o they_o deny_v their_o obedience_n special_o in_o a_o matter_n so_o near_o concern_v god_n honour_n and_o the_o good_a of_o their_o soul_n beside_o what_o be_v to_o be_v say_v of_o the_o proportion_n or_o distribution_n appear_v equal_a or_o notorious_o unequal_a of_o which_o anon_o so_o that_o in_o all_o this_o there_o be_v nothing_o for_o the_o conscience_n of_o all_o sort_n of_o man_n that_o meddle_v or_o meddle_v not_o with_o this_o determination_n obey_v it_o or_o obey_v it_o not_o to_o rest_v upon_o but_o a_o certain_a authority_n to_o be_v plead_v from_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n or_o scripture_n for_o those_o that_o offer_v to_o make_v it_o or_o obey_v it_o or_o a_o certainty_n that_o man_n have_v no_o such_o authority_n leave_v they_o by_o god_n and_o that_o our_o minor_a express_v which_o we_o believe_v part_n of_o his_o own_o prerogative_n royal_a be_v it_o any_o where_o say_v in_o express_a word_n or_o to_o any_o such_o effect_n that_o god_n though_o he_o determine_v the_o time_n of_o his_o worship_n to_o his_o church_n of_o old_a yet_o he_o will_v not_o do_v so_o to_o his_o church_n now_o under_o the_o new_a testament_n or_o that_o he_o will_v not_o have_v any_o one_o of_o his_o ancient_a determination_n to_o stand_v in_o force_n in_o any_o respect_n but_o though_o it_o be_v still_o as_o necessary_a as_o ever_o to_o have_v solemn_a time_n determine_v for_o religion_n unto_o
