needless_a here_o again_o to_o repeat_v it_o and_o for_o the_o matter_n of_o the_o command_n i_o suppose_v it_o to_o be_v such_o thing_n as_o be_v not_o discoverable_a by_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n such_o as_o the_o belief_n of_o matter_n of_o fact_n do_v many_o age_n ago_o and_o religious_a precept_n and_o ceremony_n thereupon_o depend_v but_o i_o have_v express_o declare_v in_o my_o 4_o aphorism_n extract_v out_o of_o this_o 10_o chapter_n that_o nothing_o that_o have_v any_o real_a turpitude_n or_o immorality_n in_o it_o can_v just_o be_v pretend_v to_o be_v the_o voice_n or_o command_v of_o god_n to_o either_o the_o sincere_a or_o unsincere_a out_o of_o all_o which_o we_o be_v abundant_o furnish_v to_o answer_v this_o last_o objection_n i_o say_v therefore_o that_o such_o law_n of_o god_n as_o be_v mere_o positive_a or_o depend_v upon_o historical_a or_o miraculous_a revelation_n be_v like_o word_n in_o a_o unknown_a tongue_n to_o he_o that_o be_v true_o sincere_a till_o his_o conscience_n be_v convince_v this_o i_o say_v and_o this_o be_v all_o i_o have_v say_v in_o that_o 10_o chapter_n how_o his_o sincere_a person_n serve_v the_o doctor_n for_o a_o subterfuge_n i_o have_v show_v already_o and_o need_v not_o repeat_v it_o and_o that_o what_o he_o affirm_v to_o be_v all_o that_o he_o have_v say_v in_o that_o 10_o chapter_n be_v not_o all_o i_o can_v easy_o evince_v be_v it_o requisite_a to_o the_o present_a point_n but_o full_o to_o gratify_v he_o i_o will_v take_v into_o the_o question_n both_o the_o person_n and_o the_o matter_n of_o the_o command_n which_o he_o desire_v viz._n the_o sincere_a and_o that_o which_o have_v turpitude_n and_o immorality_n in_o it_o and_o then_o i_o hope_v the_o formidable_a consequence_n mention_v in_o the_o objection_n will_v touch_v the_o doctor_n position_n for_o the_o person_n his_o tenet_n be_v which_o he_o repeat_v in_o his_o 10_o sect._n of_o this_o 9_o chapter_n that_o the_o light_n and_o law_n of_o nature_n and_o of_o eternal_a and_o immutable_a morality_n cry_v loud_a in_o the_o soul_n of_o the_o sincere_a then_o that_o he_o shall_v admit_v of_o any_o such_o foul_a motion_n much_o less_o as_o from_o god_n or_o be_v ignorant_a of_o any_o indispensable_a morality_n as_o if_o it_o be_v not_o his_o command_n but_o what_o think_v he_o then_o of_o s._n paul_n before_o his_o conversion_n be_v not_o he_o zealous_a and_o hearty_a in_o his_o religion_n he_o say_v himself_o phil._n 3.6_o that_o he_o be_v touch_v righteousness_n which_o be_v in_o the_o law_n blameless_a that_o be_v according_a to_o the_o knowledge_n which_o he_o then_o have_v of_o religion_n his_o deportment_n be_v so_o exact_a that_o it_o can_v not_o be_v tax_v with_o any_o wickedness_n whereupon_o he_o his_o way_n may_v in_o blind_a zeal_n run_v upon_o heinous_a sin_n and_o such_o as_o dr_n more_o hold_v to_o be_v against_o the_o moral_a law_n viz._n to_o use_v his_o own_o word_n the_o kill_v of_o good_a man_n under_o pretence_n of_o heresy_n against_o the_o judaical_a religion_n now_o what_o can_v be_v the_o reason_n of_o such_o zeal_n but_o because_o this_o sincere_a zealot_n count_v that_o he_o obey_v god_n will_n in_o this_o action_n it_o follow_v therefore_o that_o the_o law_n of_o nature_n cry_v not_o so_o loud_a in_o the_o sincere_a soul_n but_o that_o such_o a_o soul_n may_v sometime_o admit_v such_o foul_a motion_n and_o that_o as_o proceed_v from_o god_n this_o for_o the_o person_n now_o for_o the_o matter_n of_o the_o command_n viz._n thing_n not_o discoverable_a by_o the_o light_n of_o nature_n and_o these_o he_o
to_o raise_v he_o up_o even_o from_o the_o dead_a from_o whence_o he_o also_o receive_v he_o in_o a_o figure_n and_o if_o he_o have_v not_o be_v persuade_v that_o he_o be_v indeed_o to_o sacrifice_v he_o it_o have_v be_v no_o trial_n of_o his_o faith_n but_o god_n never_o intend_v he_o shall_v sacrifice_v he_o and_o therefore_o this_o persuasion_n he_o convey_v into_o he_o be_v false_a but_o do_v most_o indispensable_o oblige_v his_o conscience_n to_o act_v for_o the_o give_v of_o a_o proof_n of_o his_o wonderful_a faith_n in_o god_n the_o doctor_n may_v exercise_v his_o wont_a confidence_n but_o for_o all_o that_o i_o must_v tell_v he_o he_o be_v much_o mistake_v as_o confident_a man_n use_v to_o be_v and_o that_o this_o example_n be_v not_o beyond_o all_o exception_n first_o he_o argue_v that_o abraham_n be_v persuade_v that_o he_o be_v to_o sacrifice_v his_o son_n because_o unless_o this_o be_v grant_v it_o be_v no_o trial_n of_o his_o faith_n i_o ask_v of_o what_o faith_n the_o doctor_n will_v have_v we_o think_v it_o be_v that_o faith_n by_o which_o abraham_n believe_v this_o to_o be_v god_n command_n and_o be_v this_o such_o a_o singular_a exploit_n of_o faith_n as_o to_o render_v abraham_n so_o eminent_o famous_a what_o be_v more_o frequent_a than_o for_o saint_n to_o believe_v that_o to_o be_v the_o command_n of_o god_n which_o god_n command_v they_o the_o strangeness_n of_o the_o thing_n command_v alter_v not_o the_o case_n it_o may_v perhaps_o stagger_v the_o person_n command_v in_o reference_n to_o the_o performance_n of_o it_o but_o it_o obstruct_v not_o his_o belief_n that_o it_o be_v god_n indeed_o who_o give_v such_o a_o command_n unless_o the_o thing_n command_v be_v apparent_o repugnant_a to_o some_o know_a law_n of_o god_n here_o i_o easy_o imagine_v the_o doctor_n will_v greedy_o reply_v that_o this_o command_n be_v such_o as_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o god_n law_n against_o murder_n now_o therefore_o i_o see_v i_o must_v tell_v the_o doctor_n some_o news_n and_o this_o it_o be_v that_o this_o command_n of_o god_n be_v not_o contrary_a to_o his_o law_n against_o murder_n nor_o have_v abraham_n murder_v isaac_n though_o he_o have_v actual_o sacrifice_v he_o for_o god_n have_v express_o promise_v he_o before_o that_o in_o isaac_n shall_v his_o seed_n be_v call_v gen._n 21._o 12._o this_o promise_n abraham_n firm_o believe_v and_o doubt_v not_o but_o isaac_n shall_v infallible_o propagate_v his_o seed_n wherefore_o chap._n 22._o upon_o god_n command_n though_o most_o strange_a and_o unexpected_a to_o sacrifice_v abraham_n now_o have_v authority_n give_v he_o by_o the_o lord_n of_o all_o and_o he_o know_v and_o believe_v by_o virtue_n of_o god_n promise_n that_o though_o he_o sacrifice_v isaac_n yet_o he_o neither_o shall_v nor_o can_v final_o destroy_v his_o life_n certain_a he_o be_v that_o this_o sacrifice_v of_o he_o be_v not_o quite_o to_o make_v a_o end_n of_o he_o but_o only_o to_o open_v a_o way_n to_o god_n miraculous_a assert_v his_o former_a promise_n and_o this_o this_o be_v the_o signal_n trial_n of_o abraham_n most_o steady_a and_o glorious_a faith_n not_o the_o try_v whether_o he_o believe_v that_o command_n of_o sacrifice_a isaac_n to_o be_v the_o command_n of_o god_n but_o whether_o he_o firm_o believe_v the_o former_a promise_n that_o in_o isaac_n shall_v his_o seed_n be_v call_v and_o indeed_o thus_o much_o be_v clear_o enough_o legible_a in_o the_o mention_v 11_o heb._n where_o the_o apostle_n first_o set_v this_o note_n upon_o abraham_n faith_n he_o that_o have_v receive_v the_o promise_n offer_v up_o his_o only_a beget_v son_n of_o who_o it_o be_v say_v that_o in_o isaac_n shall_v thy_o seed_n be_v call_v v_o 17_o 18._o and_o then_o he_o add_v in_o what_o his_o faith_n consist_v account_v that_o god_n be_v able_a to_o raise_v he_o up_o even_o from_o the_o dead_a v_o 19_o second_o though_o the_o doctor_n offer_v no_o other_o proof_n that_o abraham_n duty_n to_o obey_v be_v there_o any_o falsity_n in_o this_o ay_o but_o the_o doctor_n urge_v that_o god_n intend_v not_o he_o shall_v sacrifice_v his_o son_n actual_o yet_o have_v convey_v into_o he_o a_o persuasion_n that_o he_o do_v intend_v he_o shall_v actual_o sacrifice_v he_o and_o this_o persuasion_n of_o god_n intent_n be_v false_a i_o answer_v 1._o abraham_n be_v persuade_v that_o god_n command_v he_o so_o and_o what_o reason_n have_v he_o to_o look_v any_o far_o 2._o suppose_v he_o be_v express_o persuade_v that_o god_n intend_v he_o shall_v actual_o sacrifice_v his_o son_n which_o yet_o god_n intend_v not_o nevertheless_o he_o know_v and_o be_v persuade_v also_o that_o if_o god_n stop_v he_o in_o the_o act_n of_o sacrifice_v by_o a_o countermand_n then_o he_o intend_v no_o more_o but_o that_o he_o shall_v with_o unfeigned_a obedience_n willing_o and_o ready_o offer_v himself_o to_o slay_v his_o son_n wherefore_o his_o first_o persuasion_n viz._n that_o god_n intend_v he_o shall_v actual_o slay_v his_o son_n be_v conditional_a namely_o provide_v that_o god_n himself_o do_v not_o interpose_v in_o the_o act_n by_o a_o new_a command_n and_o so_o accept_v the_o deceive_v abraham_n but_o dr_n more_n deceive_v himself_o nay_o father_n what_o if_o abraham_n do_v actual_o offer_v up_o his_o son_n what_o if_o god_n acknowledge_v the_o scripture_n atte_v that_o he_o do_v so_o what_o then_o become_v of_o this_o false_a persuasion_n so_o eager_o press_v by_o the_o doctor_n but_o god_n say_v to_o abraham_n gen._n 22._o 9_o see_v thou_o have_v not_o with_o hold_v thy_o son_n thy_o only_a son_n from_o i_o and_o the_o apostle_n say_v express_o heb._n 11._o 17._o by_o faith_n abraham_n offer_v up_o isaac_n and_o he_o who_o have_v receive_v the_o promise_n offer_v up_o his_o only_a beget_v son_n not_o prepare_v to_o offer_v but_o do_v offer_n that_o be_v actual_o and_o this_o be_v here_o twice_o for_o fail_v affirm_v in_o the_o same_o verse_n abraham_n sincere_a will_n be_v by_o god_n account_v for_o the_o very_a deed._n if_o the_o doctor_n still_o retort_v that_o abraham_n understand_v not_o aforehand_o that_o god_n will_v accept_v the_o will_n for_o the_o deed_n and_o that_o his_o willingness_n and_o readiness_n be_v all_o that_o god_n intend_v but_o on_o the_o contrary_a that_o he_o be_v then_o persuade_v that_o he_o ought_v to_o shed_v his_o son_n blood_n on_o the_o altar_n and_o that_o in_o this_o persuasion_n he_o be_v deceive_v by_o god_n to_o this_o my_o former_a answer_n concern_v abraham_n conditional_a persuasion_n be_v sufficient_a but_o i_o add_v have_v he_o be_v persuade_v that_o he_o ought_v absolute_o without_o any_o condition_n and_o exclusive_o of_o any_o thing_n that_o may_v happen_v and_o intervene_v to_o countermand_n from_o god_n in_o the_o very_a act_n yet_o he_o be_v bind_v to_o neglect_v that_o countermand_n and_o to_o execute_v the_o first_o injunction_n dare_v the_o doctor_n suppose_v that_o god_n thus_o persuade_v abraham_n beside_o what_o if_o abraham_n come_v into_o such_o a_o persuasion_n as_o be_v premise_v above_o by_o not_o consider_v the_o first_o or_o second_o now_o mention_v neither_o affirm_v nor_o deny_v nor_o think_v of_o either_o must_v it_o be_v that_o god_n cause_v abraham_n so_o not_o to_o consider_v they_o thus_o abraham_n may_v possible_o be_v persuade_v that_o in_o event_n he_o shall_v actual_o slay_v his_o son_n and_o yet_o god_n
which_o some_o thing_n be_v incorporate_a that_o be_v false_a but_o without_o any_o moral_a turpitude_n and_o of_o that_o nature_n that_o no_o moral_a sincerity_n may_v be_v able_a to_o discover_v the_o falseness_n of_o they_o be_v right_o say_v to_o be_v the_o permissive_a command_n of_o god_n to_o that_o soul_n for_o either_o punishment_n or_o trial_n now_o say_v the_o doctor_n if_o such_o a_o man_n as_o this_o who_o he_o also_o suppose_v to_o be_v of_o a_o peaceable_a unpersecutive_a temper_n may_v not_o enjoy_v his_o own_o because_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n have_v not_o so_o thorough_o illuminate_v he_o as_o to_o bring_v he_o to_o the_o full_a and_o exquisite_a knowledge_n of_o the_o truth_n it_o will_v bring_v in_o a_o principle_n of_o bad_a consequence_n than_o the_o protection_n of_o innocent_a man_n from_o perfecution_n for_o conscience_n sake_n namely_o that_o of_o dominion_n be_v found_v in_o grace_n how_o full_a of_o fraud_n this_o supposition_n be_v will_v in_o good_a measure_n appear_v hereafter_o mean_o while_o i_o wonder_v how_o this_o shall_v bring_v in_o the_o principle_n of_o dominion_n be_v found_v in_o grace_n the_o doctor_n be_v so_o far_o from_o tell_v we_o how_o that_o he_o offer_v not_o one_o word_n about_o it_o let_v i_o ask_v therefore_o may_v not_o the_o magistrate_n who_o urge_v the_o law_n upon_o the_o doctor_n sincere_a unconform_a brother_n and_o thereby_o deny_v he_o this_o liberty_n of_o conscience_n be_v himself_o a_o wicked_a ungracious_a person_n dr_n more_n must_v by_o his_o own_o principle_n think_v he_o so_o for_o that_o his_o very_a urge_v of_o the_o law_n be_v this_o man_n therefore_o not_o true_o and_o lawful_o a_o magistrate_n i_o guess_v the_o doctor_n dare_v not_o say_v so_o well_o then_o if_o he_o introduce_v the_o tenet_n of_o grace_n be_v the_o foundation_n of_o dominion_n they_o who_o may_v not_o be_v command_v will_v soon_o think_v it_o belong_v to_o they_o to_o command_v if_o their_o sincere_a piety_n set_v they_o above_o the_o law_n of_o their_o governor_n it_o may_v ready_o prompt_v they_o to_o think_v they_o be_v above_o their_o governor_n themselves_o but_o to_o make_v sure_a of_o a_o backdoor_n by_o which_o to_o evade_v the_o ugly_a and_o unsufferable_a consequence_n of_o his_o doctrine_n he_o very_o grave_o in_o his_o 3_o section_n give_v we_o a_o long_a character_n of_o his_o sincere_a person_n who_o conscience_n he_o will_v have_v leave_v free_a which_o also_o he_o thrust_v upon_o the_o stage_n again_o though_o as_o he_o say_v in_o a_o more_o contract_a draught_n sect._n 11._o whilst_o his_o thesis_n sound_v high_a for_o faction_n and_o sedition_n he_o plot_v to_o bring_v himself_o off_o by_o contract_v the_o subject_n of_o that_o thesis_n to_o so_o small_a a_o point_n that_o he_o may_v seem_v to_o leave_v in_o it_o no_o room_n for_o danger_n or_o disturbance_n and_o this_o he_o do_v by_o present_v his_o sincere_a person_n in_o such_o a_o strange_a dress_n that_o in_o the_o close_a of_o his_o 11_o sect._n he_o profess_v very_o few_o such_o be_v to_o be_v find_v in_o a_o whole_a province_n yea_o in_o a_o whole_a kingdom_n scarce_o so_o many_o in_o number_n as_o the_o gate_n of_o thebes_n or_o the_o mouth_n of_o the_o river_n nilus_n so_o then_o there_o be_v scarce_o seven_o such_o sincere_a brethren_n in_o a_o whole_a kingdom_n and_o the_o number_n be_v so_o inconsiderable_a what_o danger_n of_o any_o seditious_a consequence_n from_o they_o though_o they_o be_v allow_v their_o liberty_n a_o very_a well-favoured_a plea_n but_o first_o have_v the_o doctor_n this_o opinion_n when_o he_o write_v his_o mystery_n of_o godliness_n do_v he_o then_o so_o large_o patronize_v the_o point_n of_o liberty_n only_o in_o intuition_n of_o six_o or_o seven_o person_n who_o possible_o may_v be_v find_v and_o possible_o not_o in_o the_o whole_a kingdom_n this_o he_o will_v scarce_o persuade_v any_o part_n of_o the_o kingdom_n to_o believe_v our_o church_n for_o i_o hope_v he_o will_v not_o deny_v but_o he_o include_v our_o church_n in_o his_o discourse_n else_o why_o do_v he_o not_o except_v it_o which_o be_v against_o god_n word_n and_o yet_o sect_n 11._o pag._n 546_o 547._o whereas_o he_o will_v have_v a_o oath_n take_v by_o pretender_n to_o sincerity_n that_o nothing_o move_v they_o to_o depart_v from_o the_o church_n but_o mere_a conviction_n of_o conscience_n he_o add_v that_o upon_o search_n in_o the_o church_n of_o england_n no_o man_n can_v in_o judgement_n and_o conscience_n take_v that_o oath_n and_o leave_v the_o church_n which_o must_v needs_o suppose_v that_o this_o church_n command_v nothing_o against_o the_o word_n of_o god_n last_o he_o make_v he_o of_o a_o unshaken_a belief_n in_o all_o the_o essential_o determine_v by_o his_o lawful_a superior_n who_o god_n have_v enjoin_v he_o to_o obey_v in_o this_o case_n if_o that_o brother_n be_v persuade_v as_o the_o doctor_n suppose_v that_o such_o or_o such_o a_o particular_a be_v against_o god_n word_n this_o persuasion_n have_v no_o just_a and_o reasonable_a ground_n yet_o the_o doctor_n will_v have_v he_o leave_v at_o liberty_n because_o the_o persuasion_n be_v convey_v into_o he_o by_o god_n and_o so_o oblige_v his_o conscience_n i_o wish_v the_o doctor_n will_v here_o be_v so_o ingenuous_a as_o to_o tell_v we_o in_o sober_a sadness_n whether_o he_o believe_v that_o god_n will_v thus_o deceive_v so_o excellent_a and_o accomplish_a a_o christian_a in_o all_o other_o point_n as_o he_o character_n this_o brother_n to_o be_v but_o that_o be_v not_o all_o for_o i_o think_v it_o not_o amiss_o full_o here_o to_o declare_v the_o gross_a absurdity_n of_o this_o tenet_n the_o same_o god_n in_o his_o word_n command_v that_o all_o thing_n be_v do_v decent_o and_o in_o order_n but_o they_o can_v be_v so_o do_v unless_o some_o in_o the_o church_n have_v power_n to_o determine_v thing_n indifferent_a those_o therefore_o who_o be_v the_o inferior_n be_v bind_v in_o conscience_n to_o submit_v to_o their_o governor_n in_o such_o determination_n this_o be_v plain_o and_o undeniable_o god_n will_n but_o this_o sincere_a brother_n be_v persuade_v that_o the_o thing_n so_o determine_v be_v against_o god_n word_n not_o that_o he_o can_v make_v it_o appear_v either_o by_o sound_a reason_n or_o by_o any_o clear_a place_n of_o
god_n word_n so_o to_o be_v for_o then_o it_o may_v appear_v so_o to_o other_o but_o that_o his_o conscience_n tell_v he_o so_o and_o the_o doctor_n will_v have_v we_o believe_v that_o this_o false_a persuasion_n of_o his_o conscience_n be_v convey_v into_o he_o by_o god_n observe_v now_o what_o follow_v hereupon_o viz._n that_o god_n by_o some_o fallacious_a reason_n or_o some_o obscure_a piece_n of_o scripture_n or_o some_o pretence_n of_o such_o obscure_a scripture_n persuade_v this_o high_o virtuous_a man_n to_o believe_v contrary_a to_o sound_v reason_n and_o to_o plain_a scripture_n be_v this_o 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d 〈◊〉_d also_o that_o god_n persuade_v this_o sincere_a christian_a to_o boggle_v at_o the_o authoritative_a definition_n of_o a_o christian_a church_n ground_v upon_o his_o evident_a command_n last_o that_o god_n who_o enjoin_v humility_n to_o all_o christian_n do_v nevertheless_o persuade_v this_o christian_n to_o oppose_v his_o own_o private_a judgement_n though_o found_v upon_o no_o just_a and_o true_a ground_n either_o of_o reason_n or_o scripture_n against_o and_o prefer_v it_o before_o the_o public_a and_o well-grounded_n judgement_n of_o the_o circumstance_n as_o i_o do_v even_o now_o describe_v it_o his_o description_n with_o unexceptionable_a circumstance_n i_o can_v no_o where_o find_v this_o therefore_o be_v but_o one_o of_o his_o usual_a bold_a say_n indeed_o all_o he_o have_v talk_v here_o be_v but_o another_o of_o his_o shift_n and_o as_o vain_a as_o the_o rest_n for_o 1._o how_o can_v the_o proper_a drift_n of_o his_o discourse_n tend_v to_o the_o decision_n of_o case_n touch_v nation_n of_o several_a religion_n the_o liberty_n of_o conscience_n he_o plead_v for_o be_v liberty_n not_o for_o nation_n of_o several_a religion_n but_o for_o particular_a man_n under_o the_o christian_a religion_n and_o that_o in_o some_o particular_a church_n else_o what_o mean_v his_o long_a character_n of_o his_o sincere_a person_n who_o he_o make_v a_o christian_n and_o who_o must_v therefore_o be_v in_o some_o christian_a church_n or_o other_o which_o may_v allow_v he_o that_o liberty_n the_o doctor_n press_v for_o yea_o and_o this_o sincere_a person_n he_o himself_o grant_v to_o be_v rara_fw-mi avis_n so_o far_o be_v his_o drift_n from_o aim_v at_o whole_a nation_n second_o how_o can_v nation_n of_o several_a religion_n be_v concern_v in_o this_o point_n what_o be_v the_o liberty_n of_o conscience_n in_o turk_n to_o that_o in_o christian_n &_o vice_fw-la versâ_fw-la shall_v dr_n more_n have_v that_o liberty_n grant_v he_o or_o deny_v he_o here_o what_o will_v that_o be_v to_o the_o mahometan_n nay_o suppose_v such_o liberty_n allow_v among_o the_o lutheran_n how_o will_v that_o concern_v the_o calvinist_n three_o though_o the_o doctor_n will_v have_v the_o contrary_n believe_v yet_o i_o must_v tell_v he_o that_o this_o liberty_n will_v prove_v a_o great_a disinterest_n to_o some_o nay_o to_o any_o church_n beside_o to_o the_o roman_a for_o let_v his_o position_n once_o be_v grant_v that_o the_o sincere_a brother_n must_v be_v allow_v liberty_n of_o conscience_n sure_o it_o be_v fit_a the_o magistrate_n shall_v know_v whether_o he_o who_o this_o liberty_n be_v to_o be_v allow_v to_o be_v indeed_o sincere_a and_o not_o a_o demure_a dissembler_n how_o shall_v he_o know_v this_o the_o doctor_n i_o presume_v will_v answer_v that_o he_o may_v know_v it_o by_o the_o other_o part_n of_o that_o person_n character_n which_o represent_v he_o for_o eximious_o virtuous_a or_o by_o the_o god_n have_v plain_o command_v obedience_n to_o our_o spiritual_a governor_n nor_o be_v there_o any_o exemption_n from_o their_o command_n but_o where_o they_o evident_o appear_v to_o be_v against_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o that_o any_o command_n of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n be_v clear_o repugnant_a to_o god_n word_n the_o doctor_n be_v now_o wise_a enough_o and_o we_o know_v why_o most_o huge_o to_o deny_v i_o infer_v therefore_o he_o who_o keep_v the_o whole_a law_n and_o yet_o offend_v in_o this_o one_o point_n of_o obedience_n to_o lawful_a superior_n in_o thing_n not_o forbid_v by_o god_n word_n be_v guilty_a of_o all_o especial_o if_o it_o be_v not_o one_o act_n but_o a_o obstinate_a habit_n of_o disobedience_n for_o he_o who_o say_v thou_o shall_v do_v such_o be_v impossible_a he_o shall_v prove_v to_o the_o magistrate_n he_o oppose_v a_o evident_a know_a law_n of_o the_o same_o god_n 2._o as_o touch_v the_o oath_n the_o doctor_n say_v in_o his_o mystery_n of_o godliness_n pag._n 525._o that_o it_o be_v very_o useful_a and_o justifyable_a upon_o man_n relinquish_a the_o public_a worship_n of_o god_n in_o the_o church_n but_o against_o this_o way_n of_o trial_n it_o may_v be_v object_v that_o the_o same_o sincere_a person_n hold_v not_o himself_o free_a to_o take_v a_o oath_n i_o know_v the_o doctor_n in_o the_o same_o page_n stern_o pronounce_v that_o if_o any_o one_o refuse_v thus_o to_o swear_v without_o question_n it_o be_v not_o religion_n but_o some_o fathomless_a depth_n of_o knavery_n that_o lie_v at_o the_o bottom_n will_v his_o friend_n the_o bartholomew_n coniessour_n thank_v he_o for_o this_o censure_n but_o hereby_o he_o contradict_v his_o own_o grand_a principle_n that_o the_o dictate_v of_o conscience_n be_v god_n command_n to_o every_o man_n for_o i_o hope_v god_n command_n be_v not_o a_o fathomless_a depth_n of_o knavery_n such_o refuser_n may_v allege_v this_o for_o their_o refusal_n that_o christ_n plain_o rectify_v he_o may_v have_v ground_n to_o condemn_v those_o refuser_n otherwise_o he_o condemn_v himself_o for_o these_o refuser_n do_v nevertheless_o believe_v a_o creator_n a_o providence_n a_o
all_o person_n and_o tell_v i_o if_o that_o consequence_n will_v not_o be_v much_o clear_a for_o hereupon_o the_o wicked_a person_n have_v right_o to_o what_o religion_n he_o list_v will_v never_o least_o but_o the_o sum_n of_o all_o i_o find_v be_v but_o this_o that_o he_o himself_o say_v that_o right_n of_o liberty_n of_o religion_n as_o he_o have_v state_v it_o overthrow_v not_o any_o due_a latitudinarian_o here_o in_o england_n be_v not_o these_o a_o pretty_a round_a company_n make_v they_o not_o a_o great_a i_o dare_v not_o say_v how_o great_a part_n of_o the_o nation_n and_o be_v they_o not_o sincere_a and_o hearty_a enemy_n to_o our_o church-government_n or_o proud_a despiser_n of_o it_o now_o let_v all_o these_o be_v allow_v a_o right_n of_o liberty_n and_o who_o doubt_v but_o they_o will_v soon_o have_v government_n and_o discipline_n of_o their_o own_o whereby_o so_o vast_a a_o part_n of_o the_o subject_n of_o our_o church_n discipline_n be_v take_v away_o it_o be_v very_o strange_a how_o her_o jurisdiction_n shall_v by_o this_o device_n be_v enlarge_v and_o how_o cordial_o dr_n more_n desire_v the_o enlargement_n of_o it_o let_v it_o be_v guess_v by_o the_o goodly_a mean_n he_o will_v have_v use_v for_o that_o purpose_n ay_o but_o he_o will_v tell_v you_o now_o that_o he_o mean_v not_o that_o all_o those_o sect_n shall_v be_v allow_v their_o right_n of_o liberty_n indeed_o he_o may_v tell_v we_o so_o now_o when_o he_o see_v it_o be_v not_o safe_a for_o he_o to_o say_v the_o contrary_n but_o i_o have_v already_o show_v that_o his_o sincere_a which_o be_v in_o themselves_o but_o indifferent_a unless_o he_o make_v the_o church_n law_n more_o sacred_a than_o god_n i_o say_v in_o thing_n in_o themselves_o but_o indifferent_a for_o which_o of_o those_o forementioned_a sect_n will_v not_o ready_o profess_v that_o they_o embrace_v all_o the_o essential_o and_o indispensable_a precept_n of_o religion_n and_o to_o tell_v they_o that_o obedience_n in_o thing_n indifferent_a be_v command_v by_o god_n will_v nothing_o prevail_v with_o they_o see_v they_o be_v teach_v that_o this_o be_v inconsistent_a with_o the_o exercise_n of_o their_o natural_a right_n of_o liberty_n and_o therefore_o any_o such_o command_n infer_v no_o indispensable_a duty_n because_o this_o will_v destroy_v that_o original_a right_n which_o they_o have_v by_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o nature_n they_o may_v obey_v if_o they_o please_v but_o if_o they_o have_v no_o mind_n so_o to_o do_v that_o natural_a right_n will_v bear_v they_o out_o his_o next_o appeal_v to_o the_o primitive_a time_n when_o infidel_n be_v not_o compel_v to_o turn_v christian_n which_o notwithstanding_o there_o be_v in_o those_o time_n law_n for_o church-government_n and_o discipline_n whereas_o his_o proof_n shall_v have_v be_v that_o the_o primitive_a church_n compel_v none_o of_o her_o member_n by_o censure_n to_o obey_v her_o command_n but_o give_v dissent_v
