be_v stop_v so_o that_o it_o be_v a_o heavy_a yoke_n those_o that_o be_v under_o this_o law_n that_o be_v such_o as_o be_v under_o the_o first_o covenant_n the_o covenant_n of_o work_n that_o seek_v for_o justification_n by_o that_o they_o be_v under_o a_o grievous_a burden_n they_o be_v the_o child_n of_o the_o bond_n woman_n for_o the_o law_n require_v that_o that_o be_v impossible_a for_o they_o to_o do_v now_o when_o a_o soul_n come_v to_o see_v and_o understand_v itself_o to_o be_v under_o the_o law_n such_o a_o law_n as_o require_v thing_n impossible_a to_o be_v do_v this_o burden_n the_o soul_n &_o so_o by_o this_o mean_v it_o come_v to_o see_v the_o need_n it_o have_v of_o christ_n and_o christ_n call_v to_o such_o to_o come_v to_o he_o as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v so_o long_o as_o you_o continue_v unbeleiver_n in_o your_o natural_a condition_n you_o be_v under_o such_o a_o covenant_n for_o life_n as_o require_v that_o of_o you_o which_o you_o can_v possible_o do_v and_o therefore_o there_o be_v no_o rest_v in_o that_o condition_n come_v therefore_o to_o i_o take_v my_o yoke_n my_o easy_a yoke_n the_o other_o be_v a_o heavy_a yoke_n but_o i_o will_v show_v you_o a_o be_v under_o a_o grievous_a burden_n and_o so_o see_v a_o need_n of_o jesus_n christ_n christ_n call_v those_o that_o do_v understand_v this_o it_o be_v true_a if_o it_o be_v thus_o and_o people_n be_v leave_v without_o any_o help_n and_o remedy_n it_o be_v a_o sad_a condition_n true_o if_o christ_n have_v not_o come_v into_o the_o world_n to_o put_v himself_o under_o the_o law_n we_o have_v condition_n they_o be_v under_o a_o law_n that_o they_o can_v perform_v that_o law_n which_o do_v require_v absolute_a and_o perfect_a obedience_n in_o every_o thing_n or_o else_o cast_v they_o three_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n be_v this_o you_o may_v say_v though_o it_o do_v require_v perfect_a obedience_n but_o will_v it_o accept_v of_o no_o endeavour_n at_o all_o suppose_v we_o do_v endeavour_v to_o obey_v to_o the_o uttermost_a that_o we_o can_v there_o be_v many_o man_n will_v require_v thing_n that_o be_v hard_a and_o beyond_o strength_n i_o but_o when_o there_o be_v endeavour_n to_o do_v that_o that_o be_v require_v that_o will_v be_v accept_v wherefore_o we_o be_v to_o know_v this_o that_o the_o law_n accept_v of_o no_o endeavour_n though_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n shall_v strive_v their_o heart_n out_o to_o obey_v to_o come_v to_o the_o height_n of_o the_o perfection_n of_o the_o law_n the_o law_n do_v not_o accept_v of_o those_o endeavour_n it_o be_v true_a when_o the_o soul_n come_v unto_o christ_n in_o the_o gospel_n when_o the_o soul_n come_v under_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n endeavour_n be_v accept_v therefore_o do_v not_o say_v that_o you_o be_v now_o in_o for_o the_o law_n require_v obedience_n it_o must_v have_v the_o work_v do_v you_o can_v be_v but_o either_o under_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n or_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n so_o long_o as_o you_o be_v under_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n there_o the_o work_n be_v call_v for_o and_o not_o mere_o endeavour_n that_o will_v not_o do_v therefore_o the_o apostle_n say_v in_o the_o rom._n 10.5_o for_o moses_n describe_v the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n that_o he_o which_o do_v those_o thing_n shall_v live_v by_o they_o you_o must_v either_o be_v righteous_a by_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n or_o by_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n now_o if_o you_o will_v be_v righteous_a by_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n hear_v what_o that_o all_o natural_o be_v under_o a_o covenant_n of_o work_n and_o so_o long_o as_o i_o be_o in_o my_o natural_a condition_n i_o be_o under_o such_o a_o law_n that_o accept_v of_o no_o endeavour_n this_o must_v needs_o be_v a_o great_a burden_n unto_o the_o soul_n and_o make_v it_o to_o see_v a_o absolute_a necessity_n of_o go_v to_o

show_v we_o our_o misery_n and_o there_o leave_v we_o but_o grace_n and_o truth_n and_o mercy_n that_o come_v in_o by_o jesus_n christ_n ten_o a_o ten_o particular_a wherein_n the_o grievous_a bondage_n under_o the_o law_n appear_v be_v this_o that_o it_o be_v such_o a_o law_n as_o there_o can_v be_v no_o appeal_n from_o it_o no_o nor_o no_o repeal_n of_o it_o though_o it_o be_v thus_o strict_a and_o thus_o severe_a yet_o i_o say_v there_o be_v no_o appeal_n from_o it_o nor_o no_o repeal_n of_o it_o there_o be_v many_o law_n that_o we_o may_v appeal_v from_o one_o to_o another_o or_o if_o that_o law_n be_v hard_a it_o may_v be_v call_v in_o again_o we_o can_v appeal_v from_o the_o authority_n of_o this_o law_n nor_o can_v it_o be_v repeal_v you_o will_v say_v this_o exclud_v we_o from_o all_o help_n though_o there_o be_v many_o hard_a law_n make_v by_o man_n and_o as_o long_o as_o they_o stand_v in_o force_n people_n be_v in_o a_o very_a sad_a condition_n yet_o there_o may_v be_v mean_n to_o repeal_v they_o but_o as_o for_o this_o law_n there_o can_v it_o seem_v be_v no_o appeal_n from_o it_o nor_o repeal_n of_o it_o may_v we_o not_o appeal_v from_o god_n justice_n to_o god_n mercy_n seat_n i_o have_v indeed_o speak_v of_o such_o a_o expression_n but_o that_o expession_n must_v be_v wary_o understand_v for_o the_o truth_n be_v there_o be_v no_o proper_a appeal_n from_o the_o justice_n of_o god_n to_o his_o mercy_n when_o the_o sinner_n come_v to_o christ_n it_o have_v the_o pardon_n seal_v in_o the_o court_n of_o justice_n as_o well_o as_o in_o the_o court_n of_o mercy_n there_o be_v no_o soul_n that_o be_v save_v but_o god_n justice_n be_v as_o well_o satisfy_v as_o his_o mercy_n be_v glorify_v nor_o no_o repeal_n of_o this_o law_n what_o must_v the_o law_n stand_v in_o force_n then_o yes_o the_o law_n shall_v stand_v in_o force_n and_o yet_o there_o shall_v be_v thousand_o of_o soul_n save_v how_o be_v that_o you_o will_v say_v this_o be_v the_o mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o the_o law_n shall_v stand_v in_o force_n and_o yet_o man_n shall_v be_v save_v there_o shall_v be_v a_o way_n to_o save_v man_n for_o all_o this_o certain_o if_o the_o law_n go_v on_o in_o its_o course_n one_o will_v think_v that_o it_o will_v carry_v on_o all_o mankind_n to_o eternal_a destruction_n yea_o and_o so_o it_o will_v have_v do_v but_o only_o for_o this_o great_a saviour_n and_o redeemer_n jesus_n christ_n that_o call_v sinner_n to_o he_o that_o they_o may_v have_v rest_n he_o come_v and_o put_v himself_o under_o the_o law_n and_o what_o the_o law_n require_v he_o do_v and_o he_o suffer_v so_o that_o here_o be_v all_o the_o alteration_n the_o law_n go_v on_o and_o have_v its_o course_n only_o whereas_o it_o may_v have_v require_v to_o have_v have_v the_o course_n of_o it_o upon_o ourselves_o in_o person_n now_o god_n be_v content_a that_o it_o shall_v have_v its_o course_n upon_o our_o security_n when_o a_o man_n owe_v a_o debt_n the_o law_n require_v performance_n it_o be_v one_o thing_n to_o have_v the_o law_n repeal_v and_o a_o other_o to_o have_v the_o debtor_n deliver_v if_o a_o sureâ—â—_n will_v come_v and_o undertake_v the_o debt_n he_o be_v deliver_v though_o he_o have_v not_o pay_v it_o &_o yet_o the_o law_n have_v its_o course_n for_o the_o surety_n discharge_v what_o the_o debtor_n shall_v have_v do_v so_o the_o way_n of_o salvation_n for_o any_o soul_n it_o be_v not_o either_o by_o appeal_n from_o the_o law_n or_o by_o the_o repeal_n of_o the_o law_n but_o we_o must_v look_v upon_o the_o law_n to_o have_v its_o course_n only_o to_o have_v its_o course_n upon_o christ_n our_o surety_n who_o have_v full_o satisfy_v the_o law_n and_o christ_n look_v thus_o upon_o be_v the_o true_a object_n of_o our_o faith_n and_o except_o we_o apprehend_v christ_n thus_o as_o one_o make_v under_o the_o law_n as_o the_o scripture_n say_v and_o one_o that_o do_v endure_v the_o law_n to_o have_v its_o course_n it_o by_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v stir_v up_o so_o much_o the_o more_o you_o have_v a_o notable_a expression_n for_o this_o in_o the_o example_n of_o paul_n who_o feel_v it_o thus_o in_o himself_o in_o rom._n 7.5_o for_o when_o we_o be_v in_o the_o flesh_n the_o motion_n of_o sin_n which_o be_v by_o the_o law_n do_v work_v in_o our_o member_n to_o bring_v forth_o fruit_n unto_o death_n and_o again_o in_o ver_fw-la 8._o for_o sin_n take_v occasion_n by_o the_o commandment_n wrought_v in_o i_o all_o manner_n of_o concupiscence_n it_o take_v occasion_n by_o the_o commandment_n there_o be_v many_o people_n that_o be_v the_o worse_a by_o hear_v the_o law_n reveal_v unto_o they_o until_o god_n please_v to_o overcome_v their_o heart_n by_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o gospel_n now_o put_v all_o these_o together_o and_o the_o soul_n that_o come_v to_o be_v enlighten_v to_o understand_v these_o do_v you_o not_o think_v that_o such_o a_o soul_n will_v be_v burden_v be_v it_o not_o a_o burden_n to_o be_v in_o this_o condition_n be_v it_o possible_a that_o the_o soul_n can_v have_v any_o rest_n in_o this_o condition_n you_o will_v say_v these_o thing_n be_v hard_a in_o themselves_o but_o first_o if_o you_o do_v but_o understand_v the_o infinite_a holiness_n there_o be_v in_o god_n and_o the_o infinite_a justice_n of_o god_n with_o who_o you_o have_v to_o deal_v and_o if_o you_o do_v but_o understand_v the_o perfect_a condition_n that_o god_n do_v make_v man_n in_o at_o the_o first_o present_v before_o your_o soul_n the_o infinite_a holiness_n and_o justice_n of_o the_o great_a god_n with_o who_o you_o have_v to_o do_v and_o then_o present_a before_o your_o soul_n that_o perfect_a state_n that_o god_n do_v make_v man_n in_o innocency_n and_o then_o these_o thing_n will_v be_v clear_a unto_o you_o and_o if_o these_o thing_n be_v only_o preach_v to_o you_o and_o nothing_o else_o they_o will_v seem_v to_o be_v hard_o but_o it_o be_v all_o in_o order_n to_o this_o invitation_n of_o christ_n chap._n viii_o three_o conclusion_n arise_v from_o the_o former_a doctrine_n concern_v the_o burden_n under_o the_o law_n namely_o 1._o that_o man_n by_o nature_n as_o righteousness_n for_o life_n now_o this_o be_v a_o legal_a performance_n to_o perform_v duty_n in_o a_o legal_a way_n be_v this_o to_o do_v what_o the_o law_n require_v mere_o out_o of_o conscience_n because_o conscience_n tell_v i_o i_o must_v do_v it_o and_o to_o work_v in_o my_o own_o strength_n though_o it_o be_v that_o that_o god_n give_v yet_o but_o a_o natural_a strength_n and_o to_o make_v account_n of_o this_o to_o be_v as_o my_o righteousness_n and_o to_o tender_v it_o up_o unto_o god_n for_o righteousness_n unto_o life_n here_o be_v a_o legal_a performance_n and_o a_o legal_a way_n and_o his_o performance_n may_v be_v rather_o a_o burden_n than_o that_o which_o shall_v do_v he_o good_a in_o the_o conclusion_n and_o bring_v he_o to_o life_n and_o except_o he_o do_v come_v to_o know_v furhe_a than_o yet_o he_o do_v to_o know_v the_o evangelical_a performance_n of_o duty_n he_o can_v have_v true_a rest_n in_o his_o soul_n now_o this_o as_o the_o other_o be_v a_o point_n of_o great_a consequence_n to_o many_o it_o may_v be_v divers_a that_o read_v this_o book_n may_v not_o so_o clear_o understand_v what_o this_o be_v they_o may_v not_o feel_v any_o such_o thing_n in_o their_o one_o experience_n but_o i_o suppose_v i_o shall_v speak_v to_o some_o even_o to_o their_o heart_n and_o open_v their_o condition_n to_o they_o whereby_o they_o shall_v say_v that_o they_o have_v not_o take_v a_o right_a course_n to_o procure_v rest_n to_o their_o soul_n and_o to_o this_o end_n i_o speak_v that_o they_o may_v hearken_v to_o the_o bless_a invitation_n of_o law_n require_v not_o only_o the_o outward_a part_n but_o the_o will_v work_v and_o to_o be_v put_v upon_o to_o struggle_v and_o strive_v to_o do_v that_o which_o i_o have_v no_o inward_a principle_n to_o do_v that_o must_v needs_o be_v burdensome_a all_o motion_n of_o nature_n that_o be_v from_o a_o external_a principle_n be_v violent_a and_o so_o tedious_a heavy_a and_o troublesome_a so_o this_o another_o if_o you_o will_v seem_v to_o give_v judgement_n upon_o what_o we_o apprehend_v we_o shall_v make_v the_o scripture_n to_o contradict_v itself_o but_o now_o those_o that_o be_v verse_v in_o poor_a weak_a christian_n be_v trouble_v at_o this_o that_o they_o have_v not_o such_o confidence_n and_o assurance_n as_o other_o have_v they_o be_v full_a of_o doubt_n and_o fear_n we_o be_v to_o to_o their_o soul_n they_o perform_v duty_n but_o question_n with_o themselves_o how_o can_v i_o know_v that_o the_o infinite_a holy_a god_n will_v accept_v of_o what_o i_o do_v and_o although_o they_o may_v get_v quiet_a for_o a_o little_a while_n yet_o conscience_n come_v upon_o they_o again_o and_o disquiet_v they_o and_o cast_v fear_n and_o doubt_n â—to_z their_o soul_n insomuch_o that_o many_o poor_a creature_n have_v go_v seven_o or_o perhaps_o twice_o seven_o year_n under_o trouble_n of_o conscience_n and_o never_o have_v any_o rest_n or_o peace_n and_o yet_o still_o have_v go_v on_o make_v conscience_n of_o their_o way_n but_o withal_o full_a of_o fear_n and_o doubt_n lest_o all_o shall_v not_o be_v well_o with_o they_o at_o last_o the_o three_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n and_o beside_o while_o the_o soul_n go_v on_o to_o seek_v quiet_a and_o rest_n by_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n there_o be_v a_o unsuitableness_n between_o the_o duty_n that_o be_v perform_v and_o themselves_o that_o way_n and_o thereby_o put_v off_o the_o righteousness_n that_o come_v by_o faith_n they_o may_v come_v to_o be_v harden_v before_o they_o be_v aware_a but_o be_v there_o any_o of_o you_o that_o be_v seek_v rest_n and_o peace_n unto_o your_o soul_n in_o such_o a_o way_n by_o the_o righteousness_n of_o the_o law_n say_v christ_n know_v that_o this_o be_v not_o the_o way_n for_o can_v do_v it_o whereas_o another_o man_n that_o understand_v the_o mystery_n of_o it_o he_o come_v in_o and_o in_o a_o little_a time_n by_o his_o skill_n and_o art_n can_v do_v that_o with_o ease_n that_o the_o other_o man_n be_v toil_a and_o labour_v about_o a_o long_a while_n and_o yet_o can_v not_o do_v it_o as_o you_o know_v in_o all_o trade_n that_o have_v a_o mystery_n in_o they_o you_o that_o be_v navigator_n that_o understand_v the_o mystery_n of_o that_o art_n if_o any_o unskilful_a man_n shall_v come_v and_o think_v to_o do_v some_o of_o your_o work_n by_o his_o main_a strength_n he_o may_v labour_v and_o toil_n even_o his_o heart_n out_o and_o not_o do_v that_o work_n that_o you_o can_v do_v easy_o in_o a_o little_a time_n so_o many_o poor_a soul_n be_v labour_v and_o toil_a that_o these_o trouble_a soul_n of_o they_o may_v be_v but_o quiet_a they_o be_v labour_v and_o they_o will_v perform_v duty_n and_o fast_o and_o pray_v so_o many_o time_n in_o a_o day_n and_o so_o go_v on_o in_o a_o tiresome_a way_n whereas_o after_o the_o
soul_n come_v to_o be_v acquaint_v with_o the_o mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n that_o it_o hear_v the_o voice_n behind_o he_o as_o it_o be_v say_v come_v to_o i_o and_o the_o soul_n be_v enable_v to_o answer_v to_o the_o call_v and_o to_o come_v to_o christ_n it_o do_v now_o perform_v duty_n as_o much_o as_o it_o do_v before_o and_o make_v conscience_n of_o they_o as_o much_o as_o it_o do_v before_o but_o now_o they_o come_v to_o do_v they_o in_o another_o manner_n than_o they_o do_v before_o and_o they_o come_v to_o be_v easy_a to_o they_o over_o that_o they_o be_v before_o and_o they_o come_v to_o have_v rest_n to_o their_o soul_n notwithstanding_o their_o imperfection_n in_o duty_n when_o you_o go_v to_o prayer_n indeed_o sometime_o when_o your_o heart_n be_v much_o enlarge_v in_o prayer_n and_o your_o thought_n be_v take_v up_o whole_o with_o the_o duty_n that_o you_o be_v perform_v than_o you_o think_v you_o have_v some_o comfort_n but_o when_o you_o have_v any_o wander_a thought_n and_o distraction_n in_o prayer_n than_o you_o rise_v up_o with_o a_o mighty_a trouble_a spirit_n and_o can_v have_v no_o rest_n all_o the_o day_n long_o now_o when_o you_o come_v to_o be_v acquaint_v with_o the_o mystery_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n though_o there_o be_v many_o imperfection_n in_o your_o duty_n yet_o than_o you_o shall_v find_v rest_n unto_o your_o soul_n fear_n and_o tremble_n in_o the_o soul_n the_o heart_n of_o a_o man_n or_o woman_n that_o be_v before_o slugish_a dull_a heavy_a and_o dead_a when_o god_n come_v to_o make_v it_o to_o be_v sensible_a of_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n than_o it_o be_v quicken_v enliven_v and_o work_v you_o that_o labour_n and_o be_v heavy_a lade_v you_o that_o feel_v the_o weight_n of_o sin_n upon_o your_o soul_n and_o know_v not_o what_o in_o the_o world_n to_o do_v come_v you_o to_o i_o say_v christ_n and_o i_o will_v give_v you_o rest_v the_o burden_n of_o corruption_n three_o you_o that_o labour_v under_o the_o power_n of_o any_o corruption_n not_o only_o under_o the_o gild_n of_o your_o sin_n but_o under_o the_o power_n of_o corruption_n that_o feel_v your_o sin_n strong_a in_o you_o and_o you_o will_v fain_o get_v the_o mastery_n of_o they_o you_o that_o carry_v about_o with_o you_o such_o a_o weight_n as_o make_v you_o to_o cry_v out_o with_o st._n paul_n oh_o wretched_a man_n or_o woman_n that_o i_o be_o who_o shall_v deliver_v i_o from_o this_o body_n of_o death_n you_o that_o will_v fain_o overcome_v those_o strong_a corruption_n that_o be_v in_o you_o and_o it_o be_v the_o great_a burden_n poverty_n do_v work_v upon_o thy_o heart_n kind_o it_o will_v drive_v thou_o to_o chest_n and_o make_v thou_o to_o say_v true_a i_o be_o poor_a in_o this_o world_n but_o there_o be_v enough_o in_o christ_n to_o make_v i_o rich_a there_o be_v mercy_n enough_o in_o christ_n to_o make_v my_o life_n comfortable_a to_o make_v i_o who_o be_o for_o the_o present_a in_o a_o miserable_a condition_n who_o come_v to_o see_v the_o great_a bondage_n that_o you_o be_v in_o under_o the_o law_n and_o feel_v the_o great_a burden_n that_o be_v upon_o you_o in_o seek_v after_o justification_n by_o the_o law_n and_o have_v do_v so_o for_o a_o long_a time_n say_v christ_n know_v that_o you_o have_v be_v deceive_v in_o look_v after_o your_o justification_n on_o that_o way_n you_o have_v labour_v and_o toil_v in_o vain_a for_o it_o will_v not_o be_v get_v that_o way_n come_v to_o i_o and_o you_o shall_v have_v such_o rest_n to_o your_o soul_n as_o you_o never_o yet_o have_v feel_v nor_o never_o shall_v feel_v by_o that_o way_n this_o i_o take_v full_o to_o be_v the_o scope_n of_o christ_n as_o well_o aâ—_n the_o other_o now_o for_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n that_o the_o law_n compare_v to_o a_o burden_n will_v appear_v by_o that_o expression_n which_o you_o have_v in_o rom._n 6.14_o for_o sin_n shall_v not_o have_v dominion_n over_o you_o for_o you_o be_v not_o under_o the_o law_n bare_o to_o understand_v christ_n but_o we_o must_v understand_v christ_n as_o one_o that_o be_v the_o great_a saviour_n to_o deliver_v we_o from_o the_o law_n one_o that_o come_v to_o give_v rest_n and_o ease_v to_o we_o from_o the_o law_n now_o except_o we_o understand_v the_o yoke_n and_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n we_o can_v understand_v the_o worth_n of_o christ_n in_o come_v to_o give_v we_o ease_v and_o rest_n from_o it_o 1._o then_o i_o shall_v endeavour_v to_o show_v what_o the_o yoke_n and_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n be_v and_o than_o what_o be_v the_o burdensome_a condition_n of_o the_o soul_n that_o seek_v after_o righteousness_n by_o legal_a performance_n in_o the_o first_o place_n the_o law_n require_v of_o we_o such_o thing_n that_o we_o be_v not_o able_a possible_o to_o will_v say_v be_v hard_a and_o how_o can_v god_n just_o do_v it_o but_o it_o put_v you_o upon_o that_o which_o now_o you_o can_v do_v but_o you_o have_v bring_v this_o can_v upon_o yourselves_o it_o will_v not_o have_v be_v any_o burden_n to_z adam_z as_o god_n make_v man_n first_o in_o innocency_n there_o the_o law_n can_v have_v be_v no_o burden_n but_o now_o as_o we_o be_v fall_v consider_v what_o our_o condition_n be_v now_o and_o it_o be_v a_o grievous_a burden_n for_o it_o put_v we_o upon_o that_o which_o we_o can_v do_v all_o the_o strength_n that_o we_o have_v shall_v it_o be_v put_v forth_o to_o the_o performance_n of_o the_o law_n yet_o we_o can_v not_o do_v it_o but_o we_o must_v not_o think_v that_o because_o we_o have_v lose_v our_o power_n therefore_o god_n law_n shall_v not_o go_v on_o the_o law_n have_v its_o course_n whether_o we_o have_v power_n or_o no_o power_n because_o god_n give_v it_o we_o and_o we_o have_v lose_v it_o this_o i_o take_v to_o be_v the_o meaning_n of_o that_o scripture_n in_o act_n 15.10_o now_o therefore_o why_o tempt_v you_o god_n to_o put_v a_o yoke_n upon_o the_o neck_n of_o the_o disciple_n which_o neither_o our_o father_n will_v never_o be_v so_o ready_a to_o call_v all_o into_o question_n upon_o any_o breach_n of_o the_o law_n that_o our_o conscience_n tell_v we_o we_o have_v be_v guilty_a of_o 2._o further_o this_o will_v marvellous_o help_v against_o this_o temptation_n likewise_o that_o god_n accept_v not_o of_o what_o we_o do_v because_o it_o be_v not_o perfect_a because_o it_o be_v not_o complete_a when_o from_o the_o law_n will_v help_v we_o against_o this_o temptation_n likewise_o remember_v o_o thou_o believer_n that_o thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o a_o covenant_n of_o grace_n thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o he_o in_o christ_n through_o a_o better_a covenant_n than_o the_o covenant_n of_o the_o law_n 3._o further_o this_o will_v help_v against_o this_o temptation_n also_o that_o many_o time_n be_v in_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o saint_n that_o because_o they_o hear_v of_o divers_a that_o have_v seem_v to_o have_v more_o than_o they_o have_v that_o have_v have_v more_o ability_n grace_n will_v stand_v such_o a_o one_o shall_v stand_v when_o the_o other_o fall_v if_o indeed_o thy_o stand_n do_v depend_v upon_o what_o strength_n thou_o have_v in_o thyself_o than_o thou_o have_v cause_n to_o lear_a that_o see_v such_o as_o do_v stand_v fall_v away_o what_o shall_v become_v of_o thou_o but_o we_o be_v to_o know_v that_o we_o be_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o a_o way_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n our_o stand_n or_o fall_v do_v not_o depend_v upon_o any_o thing_n in_o ourselves_o but_o upon_o christ_n that_o have_v undertake_v for_o all_o those_o that_o be_v his_o member_n thou_o have_v to_o deal_v with_o god_n in_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o be_v once_o bring_v into_o the_o covenant_n that_o will_v uphold_v thou_o though_o thou_o be_v weak_a when_o thousand_o of_o other_o that_o have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o natural_a ability_n and_o common_a gift_n of_o god_n spirit_n yet_o be_v not_o bring_v under_o this_o covenant_n may_v vanish_v yea_o have_v they_o the_o strength_n of_o a_o angel_n yet_o if_o not_o bring_v under_o this_o covenant_n of_o grace_n make_v with_o believer_n in_o christ_n they_o will_v fall_v and_o come_v to_o nothing_o whenas_o the_o weak_a believer_n that_o have_v to_o do_v with_o god_n through_o christ_n and_o not_o through_o the_o law_n such_o a_o one_o shall_v stand_v and_o not_o fall_v now_o the_o be_v deliver_v from_o the_o law_n in_o christ_n will_v mighty_o help_v believer_n against_o these_o temptation_n and_o divers_a other_o i_o know_v nothing_o that_o do_v help_v believer_n more_o than_o ill_a use_n in_o hear_v the_o deliverance_n from_o the_o law_n yet_o they_o must_v not_o miss_v their_o portion_n i_o say_v believer_n be_v hereby_o teach_v how_o to_o receive_v the_o threat_n of_o the_o law_n you_o hear_v dreadful_a threat_n of_o the_o law_n out_o of_o god_n word_n against_o sin_n now_o how_o shall_v thou_o entertain_v these_o threat_n the_o way_n be_v this_o when_o thou_o hear_v such_o threat_n know_v that_o god_n by_o this_o will_v have_v thou_o to_o consider_v what_o his_o mercy_n be_v in_o deliver_v of_o thou_o from_o what_o thou_o have_v deserve_v god_n will_v have_v thou_o to_o consider_v what_o the_o evil_a of_o sin_n be_v in_o itself_o and_o to_o consider_v what_o christ_n have_v do_v god_n will_v have_v thou_o to_o be_v drive_v to_o christ_n by_o this_o mean_n to_o see_v thy_o need_n of_o christ_n to_o bless_v his_o name_n for_o christ_n and_o to_o prize_n christ_n who_o have_v deliver_v thou_o from_o these_o threaten_n a_o believer_n when_o he_o hear_v the_o threat_n of_o the_o law_n be_v like_o a_o man_n that_o stand_v upon_o the_o shore_n when_o there_o be_v a_o grievous_a tempest_n and_o storm_n he_o see_v the_o wave_n rise_v high_a hear_v the_o wind_n blow_v and_o the_o wave_n roar_v but_o he_o stand_v safe_a upon_o the_o haven_n indeed_o he_o be_v in_o the_o storm_n and_o tempest_n but_o god_n have_v bring_v he_o to_o the_o haven_n a_o holy_a use_n of_o they_o his_o heart_n be_v draw_v near_o to_o god_n by_o it_o as_o well_o as_o by_o the_o promise_n of_o the_o gospel_n it_o be_v a_o ill_a sign_n when_o man_n and_o woman_n can_v endure_v to_o hear_v the_o threaten_n of_o the_o law_n a_o dangerous_a sign_n that_o they_o be_v under_o those_o threaten_n if_o they_o be_v not_o under_o they_o it_o will_v not_o be_v troublesome_a to_o they_o to_o hear_v they_o but_o they_o that_o be_v deliver_v from_o they_o they_o know_v how_o to_o make_v use_n of_o they_o many_o man_n and_o woman_n will_v say_v when_o they_o hear_v of_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n what_o do_v this_o but_o harden_v we_o the_o hear_n of_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n do_v more_o harden_v we_o but_o if_o thou_o be_v acquaint_v with_o the_o gospel_n thou_o will_v be_v soften_v by_o hear_v of_o the_o terror_n of_o the_o law_n because_o thou_o will_v prize_v christ_n more_o and_o therefore_o believer_n must_v not_o look_v upon_o they_o as_o thing_n that_o no_o way_n concern_v they_o though_o they_o be_v not_o under_o they_o to_o be_v cast_v by_o they_o yet_o they_o do_v concern_v they_o near_o and_o therefore_o god_n will_v have_v those_o thing_n reveal_v even_o to_o believer_n because_o of_o many_o gracious_a use_n that_o believer_n be_v to_o make_v of_o those_o thing_n the_o 2._o lesson_n second_o from_o what_o have_v be_v what_o a_o condition_n thou_o be_v in_o natural_o and_o yet_o how_o to_o be_v confident_a in_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n this_o will_v teach_v thou_o how_o to_o fear_v in_o regard_n of_o what_o thou_o be_v in_o thyself_o and_o yet_o to_o rejoice_v in_o regard_n of_o what_o thou_o be_v in_o jesus_n christ_n in_o the_o rest_n thy_o soul_n have_v get_v in_o jesus_n christ_n many_o people_n do_v not_o know_v how_o to_o mingle_v these_o two_o together_o if_o so_o be_v they_o be_v humble_v for_o their_o sin_n than_o they_o be_v deject_v in_o their_o spirit_n they_o can_v tell_v how_o to_o exercise_v humiliation_n for_o their_o sin_n and_o faith_n and_o confidence_n in_o god_n grace_n together_o they_o think_v the_o humiliation_n for_o sin_n will_v hinder_v god_n grace_n and_o therefore_o they_o can_v endure_v to_o hear_v of_o such_o thing_n as_o tend_v to_o beat_v they_o down_o to_o humble_v they_o for_o their_o sin_n but_o they_o say_v they_o must_v believe_v altogether_o in_o god_n grace_n and_o the_o other_o will_v bring_v they_o to_o despair_v certain_o thou_o be_v not_o acquaint_v with_o the_o mystery_n of_o godliness_n if_o thou_o do_v not_o understand_v how_o these_o two_o may_v stand_v together_o to_o be_v deep_o humble_v for_o thy_o sin_n and_o yet_o at_o the_o same_o instant_n of_o time_n the_o soul_n to_o be_v raise_v with_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n in_o christ_n both_o together_o it_o be_v true_a vice_n be_v opposite_a one_o to_o another_o but_o grace_n be_v never_o opposite_a one_o to_o another_o those_o that_o understand_v the_o mystery_n of_o godliness_n they_o know_v how_o to_o mingle_v these_o two_o together_o at_o one_o and_o the_o same_o time_n you_o know_v that_o the_o scripture_n say_v that_o godliness_n be_v a_o mystery_n great_a be_v the_o mystery_n of_o godliness_n and_o indeed_o godliness_n consist_v in_o the_o skill_n that_o a_o christian_n come_v to_o have_v to_o know_v at_o the_o same_o time_n how_o loose_a and_o wanton_a with_o their_o joy_n and_o other_o can_v fear_v but_o their_o hair_n grow_v lumpish_a and_o dead_a if_o they_o do_v fear_n now_o the_o heart_n that_o understand_v what_o it_o be_v to_o be_v under_o the_o law_n natural_o and_o what_o rest_n christ_n have_v bring_v unto_o we_o in_o deliver_v we_o from_o the_o law_n can_v tell_v how_o to_o rejoice_v in_o tremble_v and_o to_o believe_v in_o humiliation_n and_o there_o be_v no_o such_o way_n to_o make_v such_o a_o mixture_n of_o both_o as_o to_o understand_v what_o it_o be_v to_o be_v natural_o under_o the_o law_n and_o what_o the_o rest_n be_v that_o we_o have_v in_o christ_n i_o confess_v these_o thing_n will_v not_o perhaps_o come_v so_o full_a upon_o the_o heart_n of_o those_o that_o do_v not_o in_o some_o measure_n remember_v what_o we_o have_v say_v heretofore_o both_o from_o the_o burden_n of_o the_o law_n and_o the_o rest_n that_o we_o have_v in_o christ_n those_o will_v not_o be_v able_a to_o make_v so_o much_o use_v of_o this_o that_o i_o be_o speak_v of_o i_o can_v wish_v these_o thing_n will_v have_v come_v altogether_o but_o we_o can_v do_v all_o thing_n at_o once_o the_o three_o lesson_n three_o a_o further_a thing_n that_o be_v to_o be_v learn_v from_o the_o deliverance_n we_o have_v in_o christ_n from_o the_o law_n it_o be_v this_o here_o appear_v plain_o that_o the_o way_n of_o life_n and_o salvation_n be_v above_o nature_n it_o be_v supernatural_a for_o that_o that_o i_o have_v open_v in_o the_o rest_n we_o have_v in_o christ_n from_o the_o law_n teach_v you_o that_o believer_n be_v not_o to_o stand_v or_o fall_v for_o their_o eternal_a estate_n by_o any_o work_n of_o the_o law_n if_o they_o perform_v any_o work_n of_o the_o law_n this_o do_v not_o bring_v they_o to_o eternal_a life_n if_o they_o break_v the_o law_n this_o do_v not_o cast_v they_o down_o unto_o death_n therefore_o the_o way_n of_o life_n and_o salvation_n be_v supernatural_a for_o nature_n
