thing_n that_o pertain_v to_o the_o law_n and_o be_v to_o themselves_o in_o steed_n of_o a_o law_n of_o which_o thing_n they_o can_v do_v none_o through_o the_o only_a light_n of_o that_o nature_n wherwyth_o they_o be_v bear_v into_o this_o world_n for_o seinge_v that_o paul_n can_v not_o acknowledge_v sin_n without_o the_o law_n give_v &_o reveil_v from_o above_o undoubted_o the_o doctrine_n of_o the_o law_n of_o god_n be_v necessary_a to_o all_o man_n that_o they_o may_v know_v their_o sin_n thereby_o wherefore_o the_o law_n must_v be_v set_v forth_o and_o repete_v to_o the_o people_n with_o all_o diligence_n that_o they_o may_v learn_v to_o have_v it_o ever_o in_o their_o eye_n and_o to_o considre_v it_o reverent_o and_o to_o directe_v their_o mind_n and_o all_o their_o do_n thereunto_o that_o through_o true_a and_o substantial_a knowledge_n of_o sin_n a_o lyvely_a repentance_n of_o the_o same_o may_v be_v prick_v up_o for_o that_o be_v a_o true_a and_o wholesome_a knowledge_n of_o sin_n when_o we_o do_v not_o only_o acknowledge_v what_o sin_n be_v but_o also_o that_o we_o be_v guilty_a of_o sin_n and_o the_o law_n be_v give_v to_o steer_v up_o in_o we_o such_o a_o knowledge_n of_o sin_n for_o it_o say_v not_o only_o that_o murder_n avoutrie_n theft_n and_o such_o like_a be_v sin_n but_o it_o say_v kyl_v not_o thou_o yea_o be_v not_o angry_a with_o out_o a_o cause_n commit_v not_o thou_o avoutrie_n yea_o desire_v not_o a_o other_o man_n wife_n steal_v not_o thou_o yea_o defraud_v not_o thy_o neighbour_n in_o any_o business_n he_o that_o hear_v these_o thing_n with_o a_o purge_a mind_n and_o lyghten_v with_o the_o spirit_n of_o adoption_n acknoledge_v that_o it_o be_v require_v in_o the_o law_n that_o we_o embrace_v and_o perform_v the_o thing_n that_o god_n command_v with_o all_o our_o herte_n with_o all_o our_o soul_n and_o with_o all_o our_o strength_n and_o that_o we_o all_o together_o abhor_v from_o that_o that_o he_o forbid_v with_o all_o our_o understand_v all_o our_o will_n and_o all_o our_o nature_n therefore_o when_o a_o man_n perceyve_v that_o he_o be_v yet_o far_o from_o this_o true_a obedience_n and_o study_v of_o god_n law_n he_o acknowledge_v himself_o though_o he_o abstain_v outward_o from_o murder_n adultery_n theft_n and_o fraud_n of_o his_o neighbour_n to_o be_v nevertheless_o before_o god_n a_o murtheer_n a_o adulterer_n and_o a_o thief_n and_o to_o be_v in_o danger_n for_o giltines_n of_o all_o these_o evyls_n for_o all_o be_v it_o that_o he_o have_v not_o conceyve_v in_o his_o mind_n any_o revengeaunce_n lust_n or_o wrong_n nor_o have_v consent_v to_o commit_v the_o same_o whereof_o no_o man_n will_v light_o boast_v neverthel_n he_o shall_v find_v in_o himself_o a_o inclination_n and_o a_o readiness_n of_o mind_n to_o the_o same_o mischive_n thus_o when_o he_o labour_v to_o lift_v up_o his_o mind_n unto_o virtue_n gentleness_n liberality_n and_o patience_n he_o feel_v his_o mind_n repugn_v and_o ever_o with_o draw_v itself_o from_o those_o dede_n and_o if_o it_o be_v somewhat_o steere_v up_o thereunto_o yet_o he_o perceyve_v it_o to_o faint_v therein_o and_o not_o to_o be_v move_v and_o to_o all_o our_o herte_n and_o all_o our_o strength_n so_o that_o we_o abhor_v nothing_o more_o in_o all_o our_o life_n here_o of_o it_o appear_v plain_o that_o we_o be_v teach_v by_o the_o law_n of_o god_n while_o we_o behold_v it_o after_o the_o meaning_n of_o christ_n that_o we_o be_v not_o only_a sinner_n but_o also_o prisoner_n and_o sell_v under_o sin_n for_o we_o can_v not_o repress_v in_o any_o wise_a those_o inward_a motion_n with_o our_o own_o strength_n which_o thing_n when_o we_o learn_v and_o acknowledge_v out_o of_o the_o law_n than_o we_o have_v a_o true_a and_o a_o wholesome_a knowledge_n of_o the_o law_n therefore_o as_o the_o apostle_n teach_v diligent_o and_o beat_v in_o this_o knowledge_n of_o the_o law_n so_o all_o preacher_n must_v be_v most_o diligent_a to_o teach_v and_o print_v the_o same_o in_o the_o people_n omit_v the_o subtle_a disputation_n of_o the_o law_n that_o make_v nothing_o to_o the_o purpose_n for_o while_o they_o continual_o beat_v in_o this_o substantial_a observance_n of_o the_o law_n which_o paul_n teach_v they_o shall_v steer_v up_o in_o man_n a_o true_a knowledge_n of_o sin_n and_o thereby_o a_o lyvely_a and_o effectuous_a repentance_n and_o a_o careful_a and_o earnest_a conversation_n unto_o christ_n for_o they_o that_o geve_v themselves_o earnest_o to_o this_o perfect_v obedience_n of_o the_o law_n and_o turn_v their_o life_n thereunto_o shall_v much_o better_o perceyve_v than_o any_o man_n can_v teach_v how_o great_a corruption_n there_o be_v of_o nature_n and_o how_o great_a tyranny_n of_o sin_n in_o us._n a_o other_o sayinge_v of_o paul_n whereby_o we_o may_v know_v the_o true_a use_n of_o the_o law_n be_v this_o the_o law_n work_v wrath_n wherewith_o the_o apostle_n signify_v that_o we_o do_v not_o only_o not_o acknowledge_v sin_n of_o ourselves_o but_o also_o neglect_v it_o when_o we_o have_v acknowledge_v it_o and_o dispice_n careless_o the_o judgement_n and_o wrath_n of_o god_n against_o sin_n which_o the_o law_n threaten_v as_o though_o god_n be_v not_o so_o much_o offend_v with_o our_o sin_n as_o the_o scripture_n wytness_v and_o as_o though_o he_o can_v wynke_v at_o they_o where_o as_o yet_o david_n testify_v that_o god_n will_v not_o iniquity_n for_o thus_o he_o say_v thou_o be_v not_o the_o god_n that_o wyll_v iniquity_n and_o thou_o hate_v all_o that_o work_n iniquity_n and_o shall_v destroy_v they_o that_o speak_v lie_n wherefore_o god_n will_v fray_v steer_n and_o move_v we_o again_o with_o his_o heavenly_a voice_n that_o we_o may_v feel_v his_o wrath_n in_o our_o conscience_n and_o this_o he_o do_v with_o threatening_n of_o punishment_n and_o misery_n which_o he_o add_v to_o his_o commandment_n in_o the_o law_n both_o corporal_a and_o everla_a many_o time_n and_o right_a horrible_o and_o all_o sinner_n shall_v suffer_v they_o if_o they_o repent_v not_o and_o be_v deliver_v through_o christ_n therefore_o the_o preacher_n must_v diligent_o declare_v to_o the_o people_n these_o punishment_n &_o misery_n that_o at_o length_n they_o may_v understande_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n and_o feel_v it_o in_o their_o conscience_n that_o be_v fray_v with_o the_o intolerable_a judgement_n of_o god_n they_o may_v be_v steere_v to_o seek_v grace_n in_o christ_n and_o deliveraunce_n from_o this_o wrath_n of_o god_n hereof_o it_o appear_v sufficient_o that_o the_o law_n be_v paul_n witness_v that_o the_o law_n itself_o which_o shall_v be_v a_o remedy_n unto_o we_o and_o bring_v we_o again_o to_o life_n be_v turn_v into_o our_o destruction_n and_o cast_v we_o further_o into_o hell_n concupiscence_n be_v steere_v up_o through_o it_o and_o sin_n increase_v wherefore_o this_o be_v the_o use_n of_o the_o whole_a law_n that_o it_o show_v we_o this_o our_o perdition_n through_o sin_n and_o that_o it_o dryve_v we_o be_v stryken_v with_o true_a grief_n for_o sign_n and_o with_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n judgement_n and_o be_v destistute_n of_o all_o hope_n of_o salvation_n to_o beget_v otherwise_o to_o christ_n the_o saviour_n which_o through_o his_o passion_n and_o death_n have_v remove_v the_o wrath_n of_o god_n from_o we_o have_v obtain_v favour_n gyve_v the_o spirit_n of_o regeneration_n through_o which_o spirit_n be_v sanctify_v and_o strengthen_v we_o be_v dryven_v forth_o to_o work_v well_o and_o we_o be_v stay_v with_o this_o consolation_n that_o he_o be_v our_o only_a meditoure_n and_o saviour_n which_o may_v set_v his_o perfect_a obedience_n and_o rightuousnes_n between_o the_o father_n and_o we_o and_o at_o length_n in_o the_o schoolmaster_n to_o christ_n law_n be_v make_v unto_o we_o a_o schoolmaster_n unto_o christ_n this_o end_n then_o of_o the_o law_n must_v be_v diligent_o declare_v and_o repete_v in_o sermon_n for_o all_o we_o have_v yet_o need_v of_o this_o scholemaistringe_n accord_v to_o the_o measure_n of_o faith_n and_o the_o spirit_n give_v to_o every_o one_o for_o there_o remain_v a_o great_a weakness_n in_o we_o all_o by_o reason_n whereof_o we_o have_v need_n through_o the_o fear_n of_o the_o servile_a spirit_n to_o be_v ever_o dryven_v to_o christ_n and_o to_o be_v keep_v in_o the_o obedience_n of_o god_n unto_o a_o fulle_a liberty_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o child_n further_o more_v no_o small_a part_n of_o christian_n people_n in_o this_o last_o and_o so_o corrupt_a age_n of_o the_o world_n after_o so_o notable_a a_o defection_n from_o the_o law_n of_o god_n follow_v their_o lust_n without_o care_n and_o lyve_v in_o manifest_a vice_n it_o be_v then_o as_o necessary_a to_o preach_v the_o law_n to_o this_o kind_n of_o people_n and_o to_o raise_v they_o up_o from_o the_o sleep_n of_o their_o vice_n through_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n judgement_n and_o to_o dryve_v they_o to_o christ_n as_o it_o be_v to_o the_o old_a people_n therefore_o it_o shall_v pertain_v to_o the_o preacher_n while_o they_o exhort_v to_o good_a work_n to_o beat_v in_o diligent_o the_o commandment_n of_o the_o law_n the_o promise_n and_o threat_v join_v to_o the_o commandment_n how_o be_v it_o they_o must_v do_v it_o with_o such_o moderation_n that_o together_o with_o principal_a diligence_n they_o teach_v that_o it_o be_v christ_n only_o that_o work_v the_o true_a obedience_n of_o the_o law_n and_o that_o he_o satisfy_v through_o his_o obedience_n that_o that_o want_v in_o we_o wherein_o there_o be_v no_o perfection_n for_o as_o long_o as_o we_o live_v here_o our_o obedience_n be_v very_o slender_a and_o unperfecte_v nor_o satissi_v the_o law_n at_o any_o time_n which_o law_n set_v this_o mark_n of_o our_o obedience_n that_o we_o love_v god_n with_o our_o whole_a herte_n our_o whole_a soul_n and_o all_o our_o strenghthe_n wherefore_o those_o place_n in_o the_o law_n and_o in_o the_o prophet_n that_o preach_v of_o christ_n christ_n even_o the_o law_n lead_v and_o remit_v to_o christ_n whereof_o there_o be_v many_o in_o the_o scripture_n shall_v be_v declare_v and_o commend_v to_o the_o people_n with_o great_a diligence_n for_o the_o law_n profit_v we_o not_o only_o in_o this_o point_n that_o thorouge_v the_o knowledge_n of_o sin_n which_o it_o stir_v up_o and_o the_o fear_n of_o god_n wrath_n which_o it_o cause_v it_o call_v we_o again_o to_o christ_n and_o keep_v we_o through_o obedience_n towards_o god_n in_o christ_n and_o yet_o by_o none_o other_o strength_n than_o of_o christ_n but_o also_o it_o magnify_v and_o show_v
mortify_v the_o remnaunte_n of_o this_o evil_a through_o the_o holy_a ghost_n and_o keep_v we_o in_o true_a faith_n and_o call_v upon_o god_n grace_n and_o gyve_v we_o increase_v therein_o daily_o more_o and_o more_o that_o in_o christ_n by_o the_o help_v of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n we_o may_v attain_v so_o far_o at_o length_n that_o we_o shall_v seek_v and_o desire_v all_o good_a thing_n and_o steward_n of_o god_n and_o require_v they_o by_o a_o lawful_a mean_n that_o be_v to_o say_v by_o such_o as_o agree_v with_o the_o faith_n in_o god_n and_o love_n of_o our_o neighbour_n and_o be_v receive_v by_o the_o common_a law_n and_o custom_n they_o do_v well_o and_o godly_a and_o use_v the_o instrument_n of_o god_n bountiousnes_n aright_o but_o they_o that_o receyve_v of_o they_o the_o law_n of_o religion_n and_o govern_v their_o whole_a life_n after_o their_o will_n not_o after_o the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o think_v themselves_o happy_a if_o they_o be_v their_o friend_n and_o to_o christ_n wherewith_o we_o purpose_v to_o purge_v sin_n to_o procure_v the_o benifitte_v of_o god_n and_o to_o worship_n god_n for_o which_o intent_n the_o common_a people_n abuse_v image_n and_o relic_n of_o saint_n candelle_n holy_a water_n salt_n and_o other_o conjure_a and_o consecrate_a thing_n we_o do_v ungodly_a and_o unreligious_o and_o procure_v destruction_n to_o ourselves_o in_o motion_n and_o carefulness_n of_o this_o life_n which_o wound_n of_o man_n weakness_n the_o saint_n feel_v to_o be_v so_o much_o the_o grevouser_n as_o they_o more_o study_n to_o remedy_v they_o which_o thing_n paul_n bewail_v of_o himself_o roma_n seven_o it_o be_v profitable_a that_o the_o people_n be_v often_o and_o plain_o admonish_v of_o this_o question_n for_o a_o great_a part_n of_o man_n be_v encumber_v in_o two_o error_n some_o be_v in_o perpetual_a doubt_n be_v uncertain_a whether_o their_o life_n or_o work_n please_v god_n and_o lyve_v in_o a_o heathnishe_a ungodliness_n for_o they_o can_v not_o call_v upon_o god_n but_o they_o flee_v his_o sight_n there_o be_v a_o very_a great_a multitude_n of_o this_o sort_n among_o man_n wherefore_o this_o heathnishe_a blindness_n of_o man_n must_v be_v diligent_o reprove_v an_o other_o arrogancy_n and_o trust_v of_o our_o own_o rightuousnes_n and_o work_n as_o be_v the_o error_n of_o that_o pharisee_n which_o in_o the_o temple_n glory_v of_o the_o keep_n of_o the_o law_n not_o perceive_n his_o own_o uncleanes_n and_o sin_n therefore_o that_o this_o double_a error_n and_o this_o blindness_n may_v be_v ovoyd_v we_o vice_n remain_v in_o us._n wherefore_o we_o must_v remember_v that_o it_o be_v ever_o needful_a to_o ask_v forgyvenes_n of_o sin_n as_o christ_n teach_v we_o all_o to_o pray_v to_o the_o father_n
