of_o separate_n for_o great_a purity_n 3._o to_o the_o plea_n of_o conscience_n 1._o with_o respect_n to_o authority_n we_o be_v divide_v from_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n as_o one_o particular_a not_o be_v unite_v as_o they_o be_v into_o a_o national_a form_n but_o each_o bishop_n with_o his_o presbyter_n have_v make_v rule_n for_o religious_a assembly_n independent_o upon_o the_o rest_n but_o now_o the_o fault_n of_o such_o separation_n be_v heinous_o aggravate_v as_o the_o case_n stand_v by_o these_o two_o consideration_n 1._o that_o those_o order_n or_o imposition_n upon_o the_o account_n whereof_o he_o separate_v from_o the_o parish_n where_o he_o live_v be_v make_v by_o the_o common_a advice_n of_o the_o pastor_n of_o christ_n flock_n in_o this_o kingdom_n and_o that_o presbyterian_a brethren_n will_v grant_v that_o upon_o these_o account_n there_o be_v a_o vast_a difference_n between_o the_o case_n of_o separation_n from_o the_o church_n of_o england_n and_o from_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n in_o point_n of_o authority_n but_o then_o i_o must_v confess_v the_o independent_o be_v likely_a enough_o to_o say_v that_o these_o imposition_n be_v as_o true_o usurpation_n upon_o particular_a congregation_n as_o if_o they_o have_v be_v enforce_v upon_o this_o kingdom_n by_o a_o pretend_a authority_n from_o rome_n and_o if_o there_o be_v no_o difference_n this_o that_o it_o be_v unlawful_a to_o communicate_v ordinary_o in_o a_o more_o imperfect_a way_n of_o worship_n and_o enjoy_v the_o ordinance_n of_o the_o gospel_n where_o a_o better_a may_v be_v have_v 2._o i_o come_v now_o to_o the_o second_o point_n which_o be_v to_o compare_v the_o ground_n of_o separation_n on_o both_o side_n together_o that_o we_o may_v judge_v wherein_o they_o differ_v for_o we_o of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n do_v unanimous_o deny_v that_o the_o bishop_n of_o rome_n have_v any_o just_a authority_n to_o make_v rule_n for_o the_o communion_n or_o to_o prescribe_v law_n for_o the_o government_n of_o our_o church_n but_o all_o the_o dissenter_n do_v not_o question_v the_o lawfulness_n of_o that_o authority_n by_o which_o our_o liturgy_n be_v establish_v and_o mean_v not_o that_o we_o have_v forsake_v but_o some_o corruption_n only_o of_o the_o roman_a worship_n as_o if_o our_o communion_n be_v now_o indeed_o pure_a than_o they_o though_o not_o so_o pure_a as_o it_o ought_v to_o be_v this_o be_v not_o our_o meaning_n for_o we_o contend_v that_o this_o church_n have_v purge_v away_o all_o those_o practice_n and_o abolish_v all_o those_o rule_n relate_v to_o god_n worship_n which_o be_v contrary_a to_o his_o word_n and_o by_o consequence_n that_o there_o be_v no_o impurity_n leave_v in_o the_o condition_n of_o our_o communion_n so_o that_o any_o man_n who_o conscience_n be_v right_o inform_v may_v communicate_v with_o we_o without_o sin_n wherefore_o this_o comparative_a expression_n of_o separate_n for_o great_a purity_n from_o the_o roman_a church_n respect_v the_o state_n of_o that_o church_n suppose_v indeed_o that_o all_o the_o condition_n of_o that_o churches-communion_n be_v not_o impure_a but_o withal_o imply_v that_o some_o of_o they_o and_o those_o true_o not_o a_o few_o be_v so_o and_o therefore_o that_o her_o communion_n be_v not_o pure_a enough_o for_o any_o christian_n to_o join_v in_o it_o with_o a_o good_a conscience_n thus_o i_o have_v show_v what_o we_o understand_v by_o separate_v for_o great_a purity_n and_o how_o we_o maintain_v this_o plea_n in_o answer_n to_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n now_o therefore_o condition_n in_o our_o communion_n i_o promise_v to_o recant_v all_o that_o i_o have_v say_v in_o behalf_n of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n under_o this_o head_n of_o the_o purity_n of_o her_o communion_n and_o instead_o of_o vindicate_v my_o defence_n of_o our_o church_n as_o to_o this_o particular_a to_o depart_v from_o her_o communion_n in_o that_o thing_n whatever_o may_v come_v of_o it_o from_o this_o time_n forward_o and_o i_o trust_v that_o through_o the_o grace_n of_o god_n i_o shall_v not_o for_o the_o sake_n of_o any_o worldly_a interest_n either_o resist_v the_o evidence_n of_o any_o clear_a argument_n tend_v to_o my_o conviction_n or_o act_v in_o contradiction_n to_o a_o convince_a conscience_n and_o judgement_n in_o a_o matter_n of_o this_o high_a nature_n but_o to_o cause_n to_o see_v what_o shift_v they_o use_v to_o make_v good_a their_o pretence_n they_o demand_v of_o we_o where_o scripture_n command_v or_o what_o need_n there_o be_v of_o those_o thing_n which_o our_o church_n require_v they_o pretend_v that_o the_o liberty_n of_o christian_n do_v in_o great_a part_n consist_v in_o this_o that_o they_o ought_v not_o by_o man_n to_o be_v determine_v thing_n which_o do_v not_o fall_v under_o any_o particular_a law_n of_o god_n but_o may_v be_v order_v better_a or_o worse_o as_o man_n be_v more_o or_o less_o prudent_a or_o as_o they_o take_v great_a or_o less_o heed_n to_o the_o general_a rule_n of_o reason_n and_o scripture_n concern_v thing_n indifferent_a and_o withal_o that_o there_o be_v so_o much_o more_o gravity_n decency_n simplicity_n and_o tendency_n to_o edification_n in_o the_o outward_a mode_n of_o their_o worship_n that_o it_o will_v be_v a_o sin_n to_o let_v it_o fall_v or_o in_o practice_n to_o prefer_v we_o church_n for_o great_a purity_n the_o protestant_n at_o first_o forsake_v the_o catholic_n i._n e._n roman_a church_n for_o great_a purity_n and_o do_v not_o the_o presbyterian_o forsake_v the_o church_n of_o england_n for_o great_a purity_n and_o so_o do_v the_o independent_o set_v up_o their_o congregation_n for_o great_a purity_n and_o the_o anabaptist_n for_o the_o same_o reason_n depart_v from_o they_o and_o the_o quaker_n from_o they_o all_o and_o there_o be_v no_o end_n of_o break_v communion_n upon_o such_o pretence_n as_o these_o be_v which_o be_v as_o good_a against_o yourselves_o as_o they_o be_v against_o we_o and_o therefore_o you_o may_v choose_v whether_o you_o will_v return_v to_o the_o church_n from_o which_o you_o first_o break_v away_o under_o pretence_n of_o reformation_n or_o whether_o you_o will_v follow_v your_o principle_n till_o you_o be_v refine_v into_o quaker_n or_o it_o may_v be_v into_o a_o more_o absurd_a and_o mad_a sort_n of_o people_n than_o the_o quaker_n themselves_o be_v it_o be_v a_o lamentable_a thing_n to_o see_v man_n of_o common_a understanding_n cozen_v by_o such_o palpable_a fallacy_n as_o these_o be_v though_o it_o be_v not_o to_o be_v wonder_v at_o that_o the_o agent_n of_o the_o roman_a church_n make_v the_o best_a use_n of_o they_o they_o can_v since_o a_o foul_a cause_n must_v be_v behold_v to_o such_o other_o and_o then_o proceed_v to_o examine_v the_o reason_n of_o our_o separation_n whether_o they_o be_v not_o just_a and_o necessary_a and_o if_o they_o find_v they_o so_o to_o be_v that_o they_o will_v acquit_v we_o from_o all_o their_o blame_n who_o separate_a without_o such_o reason_n for_o it_o be_v very_o foolish_a and_o unjust_a not_o to_o allow_v the_o pretence_n of_o conscience_n to_o
