proffer_n of_o the_o city_n of_o london_n by_o the_o lord_n maior_n on_o thursday_n the_o 17._o of_o february_n to_o disburse_v 60000l_o towards_o the_o suppress_n the_o rebellion_n in_o ireland_n anno_fw-la dom._n 1641._o master_n speaker_n this_o proposition_n make_v by_o the_o city_n of_o london_n for_o the_o loan_n of_o the_o sum_n of_o money_n towards_o the_o suppress_n of_o the_o rebel_n in_o ireland_n be_v not_o in_o my_o opinion_n to_o be_v reject_v the_o condition_n under_o which_o they_o will_v disburse_v the_o same_o be_v now_o the_o thing_n we_o have_v to_o consider_v of_o viz._n 1._o that_o london-derry_n in_o ireland_n now_o in_o subjection_n to_o the_o rebel_n when_o recover_v may_v be_v restore_v to_o they_o and_o satisfaction_n make_v by_o the_o rebel_n for_o the_o damage_n do_v thereto_o 2._o that_o all_o that_o shall_v be_v win_v both_o land_n and_o good_n from_o the_o rebel_n by_o the_o army_n pay_v with_o their_o money_n may_v be_v they_o for_o the_o same_o 3._o that_o if_o nought_o be_v recover_v from_o they_o they_o be_v willing_a to_o lose_v their_o money_n these_o proposition_n i_o conceive_v under_o favour_n to_o be_v very_o reasonable_a and_o may_v without_o much_o difficulty_n be_v consent_v unto_o and_o that_o for_o these_o reason_n 1._o the_o rebellion_n in_o ireland_n be_v so_o general_a that_o it_o be_v not_o the_o force_n of_o one_o army_n can_v suppress_v they_o in_o every_o place_n and_o if_o the_o like_a proffer_n be_v make_v either_o by_o other_o city_n or_o the_o merchant_n join_v together_o or_o if_o any_o great_a personage_n in_o this_o kingdom_n whereof_o money_n or_o arm_n or_o what_o force_n they_o can_v raise_v for_o other_o several_a place_n in_o subjection_n to_o the_o rebel_n and_o upon_o such_o proposition_n to_o be_v present_v unto_o the_o parliament_n i_o conceive_v it_o will_v be_v the_o speedy_a course_n to_o subdue_v the_o rebel_n and_o reduce_v that_o kingdom_n to_o the_o due_a obedience_n to_o his_o majesty_n and_o the_o crown_n of_o england_n and_o to_o the_o law_n and_o ordinance_n make_v by_o his_o majesty_n and_o his_o state_n of_o both_o kingdom_n 2._o by_o this_o mean_v the_o soldier_n will_v be_v much_o animate_v and_o encourage_v to_o fight_v when_o they_o shall_v fight_v not_o only_o for_o religion_n their_o king_n and_o country_n but_o also_o for_o their_o own_o profit_n and_o particular_a benefit_n that_o what_o they_o valiant_o win_v be_v their_o own_o this_o will_v put_v life_n and_o vigour_n into_o they_o make_v they_o cheerful_a and_o willing_a to_o hazard_v themselves_o not_o only_o in_o their_o person_n but_o even_o their_o estate_n and_o fortune_n if_o need_v require_v upon_o such_o ground_n and_o hope_n conceive_v if_o they_o lose_v their_o life_n or_o fortune_n or_o both_o yet_o may_v they_o be_v confident_a of_o their_o reward_n in_o the_o other_o world_n even_o from_o god_n himself_o and_o his_o christ_n who_o cause_n they_o have_v undertake_v who_o most_o holy_a word_n and_o doctrine_n they_o strive_v to_o maintain_v in_o its_o purity_n and_o sincerity_n his_o true_a religion_n seek_v to_o uphold_v and_o defend_v and_o his_o honour_n and_o glory_n endeavour_v to_o vindicate_v they_o can_v likewise_o expect_v otherwise_o then_o reward_v in_o their_o posterity_n and_o kindred_n by_o their_o king_n and_o country_n who_o cause_n it_o be_v also_o they_o undertake_v to_o defend_v and_o who_o honour_n and_o ancient_a fame_n and_o glory_n they_o endeavour_v to_o revive_v and_o vindicate_v against_o the_o open_a and_o public_a enemy_n and_o adversary_n to_o the_o same_o 3._o by_o this_o mean_v many_o that_o be_v revolt_v from_o the_o protestant_n to_o the_o rebel_n may_v be_v draw_v to_o return_v ●nd_v many_o that_o be_v not_o yet_o revolt_v although_o favourer_n of_o their_o cause_n and_o wellwisher_n to_o they_o nay_o perchance_o of_o their_o religion_n be_v dehort_v from_o the_o same_o and_o mere_o for_o hope_n of_o profit_n and_o preferment_n may_v remain_v faithful_a and_o steadfast_a in_o their_o service_n to_o their_o lawful_a king_n and_o native_a country_n what_o man_n but_o desperate_a will_v take_v part_n in_o the_o defence_n of_o a_o cause_n that_o no_o way_n can_v be_v conceive_v prosperous_a or_o profitable_a they_o may_v increase_v in_o strength_n and_o be_v permit_v to_o do_v great_a mischief_n and_o damage_n to_o the_o protestant_n but_o this_o must_v have_v a_o end_n this_o can_v long_o continue_v blood_n require_v blood_n vengeance_n will_v be_v at_o last_o repay_v by_o he_o who_o have_v all_o power_n in_o his_o hand_n both_o of_o heaven_n and_o earth_n to_o their_o shame_n and_o utter_v confusion_n and_o christ_n and_o his_o servant_n must_v have_v the_o victory_n nay_o former_a time_n have_v make_v this_o manifest_a the_o trouble_n in_o this_o kingdom_n in_o the_o reign_n of_o king_n henry_n the_o eight_o by_o that_o faction_n raise_v after_o that_o prince_n endeavour_v to_o purge_v the_o church_n and_o this_o land_n of_o idolatry_n which_o continue_v from_o the_o 28._o to_o the_o 31._o year_n of_o his_o reign_n yet_o at_o last_o they_o be_v subdue_v both_o in_o this_o kingdom_n and_o the_o kingdom_n of_o ireland_n and_o the_o trouble_n in_o the_o reign_n of_o queen_n elizabeth_n of_o good_a memory_n not_o much_o inferior_a to_o the_o present_a distemper_n of_o both_o state_n raise_v also_o by_o the_o same_o faction_n be_v at_o length_n appease_v and_o bring_v to_o true_a subjection_n to_o the_o queen_n and_o crown_n of_o england_n we_o have_v have_v experience_n aswell_o now_o of_o late_a time_n as_o former_o of_o their_o devilish_a practice_n and_o stratagem_n private_o agitate_a when_o they_o can_v not_o prevail_v by_o public_a insurrection_n yet_o few_o through_o the_o good_a providence_n of_o god_n have_v take_v effect_n but_o have_v be_v avoid_v and_o prevent_v by_o some_o mean_n or_o other_o these_o thing_n consider_v and_o join_v with_o future_a hope_n of_o preferment_n may_v prove_v a_o main_a cause_n to_o dehort_v soldier_n from_o revolt_n to_o the_o rebel_n and_o to_o draw_v such_o as_o be_v revolt_v back_o again_o to_o their_o lawful_a service_n and_o true_a obedience_n 4._o last_o hereby_o may_v foreign_a state_n be_v move_v to_o withdraw_v their_o aid_n and_o assistance_n intend_v to_o supply_v the_o rebel_n withal_o when_o they_o shall_v perceive_v that_o such_o force_n be_v provide_v of_o all_o sort_n of_o man_n for_o supply_v of_o the_o protestant_n and_o the_o reason_n and_o ground_n which_o move_v they_o so_o willing_o to_o take_v arm_n that_o it_o be_v very_o improbable_a and_o unlikely_a such_o success_n of_o their_o enterprise_n will_v follow_v as_o be_v desire_v and_o that_o the_o rebel_n be_v very_o unconstant_a if_o in_o danger_n to_o be_v overcome_v and_o consider_v the_o unjustnesse_n of_o their_o cause_n be_v only_o public_a rebellion_n against_o their_o lawful_a sovereign_n only_o cloak_v and_o cover_v under_o the_o bare_a title_n of_o the_o defence_n of_o their_o religion_n and_o pretend_a liberty_n in_o the_o exercise_n thereof_o in_o that_o kingdom_n they_o i_o conceive_v will_v be_v the_o more_o cautious_a how_o they_o entangle_v themselves_o in_o the_o defence_n of_o their_o unjust_a quarrel_n and_o thus_o much_o of_o the_o reason_n why_o i_o conceive_v these_o proposition_n of_o the_o city_n of_o london_n be_v convenient_a and_o necessary_a to_o be_v consent_v unto_o and_o confirm_v by_o parliament_n which_o notwithstanding_o i_o humble_o leave_v to_o the_o further_a consideration_n of_o this_o honourable_a house_n aver_v by_o george_n nixon_n clerk_n finis_fw-la
