he_o that_o shall_v take_v from_o a_o prophet_n the_o right_a of_o a_o prophet_n as_o he_o be_v a_o prophet_n or_o he_o that_o shall_v refuse_v to_o give_v entertainment_n to_o a_o prophet_n into_o his_o house_n or_o into_o his_o heart_n as_o a_o prophet_n may_v expect_v a_o prophet_n curse_n and_o what_o that_o be_v you_o may_v see_v if_o you_o please_v to_o turn_v to_o zech._n 11.17_o but_o you_o may_v perhaps_o say_v if_o this_o provision_n be_v make_v for_o the_o minister_n how_o shall_v they_o fall_v into_o poverty_n and_o yet_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o such_o a_o thing_n once_o be_v minister_v to_o they_o though_o but_o in_o a_o cup_n of_o cold_a water_n and_o if_o any_o yet_o out_o of_o a_o sinister_a end_n shall_v plead_v that_o it_o be_v not_o by_o all_o this_o clear_a that_o they_o ought_v to_o receive_v tithe_n i_o have_v only_o one_o word_n more_o to_o say_v and_o so_o conclude_v second_o it_o be_v not_o only_o clear_a by_o scripture_n but_o the_o law_n and_o custom_n of_o nation_n have_v make_v choice_n of_o this_o proportion_n and_o of_o our_o nation_n among_o the_o rest_n it_o have_v be_v and_o still_o be_v establish_v by_o the_o law_n of_o the_o land_n and_o
methinks_v upon_o very_o good_a ground_n in_o regard_n a_o way_n more_o agreeable_a to_o god_n word_n can_v not_o be_v find_v beside_o which_o way_n can_v a_o more_o equal_a way_n be_v imagine_v for_o do_v not_o the_o minister_n as_o well_o as_o the_o people_n in_o this_o thing_n depend_v upon_o god_n blessing_n or_o curse_v the_o earth_n whether_o his_o allowance_n shall_v be_v more_o or_o less_o plentiful_a or_o scarce_o so_o as_o both_o minister_n and_o people_n shall_v be_v in_o one_o capacity_n either_o to_o bless_v god_n for_o plenty_n or_o to_o wrestle_v with_o god_n in_o time_n of_o famine_n and_o scarcity_n for_o the_o removal_n of_o the_o judgement_n now_o see_v it_o be_v thus_o agreeable_a to_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o nation_n and_o so_o full_a of_o equity_n who_o be_v thou_o o_o man_n that_o dare_v so_o desperate_o set_v thyself_o against_o both_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o man_n sure_o i_o be_o in_o my_o own_o experience_n since_o i_o know_v the_o right_a hand_n from_o the_o left_a i_o never_o observe_v any_o that_o make_v a_o scruple_n of_o pretend_a conscience_n of_o pay_v tithe_n but_o they_o fall_v by_o little_a and_o little_a not_o only_o to_o the_o denial_n of_o all_o maintenance_n to_o the_o minister_n but_o even_o to_o the_o despise_n of_o they_o though_o they_o can_v but_o know_v that_o he_o that_o despise_v they_o despise_v their_o lord_n and_o master_n the_o lord_n christ_n i_o profess_v i_o can_v conceive_v any_o reason_n why_o you_o shall_v with_o such_o vehemency_n set_v yourselves_o against_o the_o maintenance_n of_o the_o ministry_n unless_o it_o be_v either_o first_o to_o bring_v they_o into_o reproach_n and_o ignominy_n and_o so_o make_v they_o contemptible_a that_o god_n command_v we_o to_o account_v worthy_a of_o double_a honour_n and_o so_o on_o set_a purpose_n contradict_v god_n 1_o tim._n 5.17_o or_o second_o which_o indeed_o i_o rather_o judge_v to_o be_v the_o ground_n of_o it_o viz._n the_o cunning_a policy_n of_o satan_n that_o know_v well_o enough_o that_o this_o doctrine_n will_v be_v ready_o receive_v of_o all_o that_o out_o of_o mere_a covetousness_n be_v loath_a to_o part_n with_o that_o which_o god_n require_v and_o it_o may_v be_v your_o delude_a fancy_n to_o make_v use_n of_o this_o doctrine_n to_o increase_v the_o number_n of_o your_o proselyte_n for_o there_o be_v not_o a_o covetous_a worldling_n but_o he_o will_v be_v ready_a to_o join_v with_o you_o in_o this_o doctrine_n see_v so_o fair_a a_o pretence_n make_v for_o it_o viz._n a_o case_n of_o conscience_n though_o he_o shall_v one_o day_n know_v that_o this_o very_a conscience_n shall_v rise_v up_o in_o judgement_n and_o condemn_v he_o as_o a_o mere_a covetous_a wretch_n i_o remember_v towards_o the_o close_a of_o your_o great_a argument_n against_o tithe_n you_o draw_v towards_o what_o you_o chief_o aim_v at_o and_o by_o your_o own_o rate_n of_o argument_n go_v about_o to_o argue_v the_o dispensor_n of_o god_n word_n and_o ordinance_n to_o be_v neither_o minister_n of_o law_n nor_o gospel_n and_o usurp_v to_o yourselves_o that_o power_n that_o be_v proper_a and_o peculiar_a to_o the_o apostle_n of_o christ_n and_o indeed_o be_v now_o to_o the_o minister_n of_o the_o gospel_n 1_o tim._n 1.20_o viz._n that_o great_a power_n of_o excommunication_n for_o say_v you_o from_o the_o law_n and_o gospel_n do_v we_o shut_v they_o which_o be_v indeed_o the_o high_a degree_n of_o excommunication_n but_o you_o have_v utter_o disenable_v yourselves_o from_o have_v any_o thing_n to_o do_v in_o this_o matter_n by_o break_v yourselves_o off_o and_o rent_v yourselves_o from_o the_o mystical_a body_n of_o christ_n which_o be_v his_o church_n in_o who_o hand_n this_o power_n lie_v 1_o tim._n 1.20_o humble_v for_o except_o those_o like_o yourselves_o who_o say_v they_o be_v whole_a and_o need_v not_o the_o physician_n but_o let_v i_o tell_v you_o if_o i_o hear_v a_o man_n cry_v out_o keep_v at_o cast_v many_o into_o prison_n because_o they_o put_v not_o into_o their_o mouth_n i_o confess_v i_o know_v not_o one_o precedent_n of_o this_o nature_n but_o if_o any_o be_v i_o hope_v there_o be_v well_o able_a to_o pay_v but_o out_o of_o a_o refractory_a gainsay_v and_o contradict_v mind_n will_v not_o pay_v i_o think_v the_o minister_n shall_v sin_v if_o he_o do_v not_o sue_v such_o at_o law_n and_o my_o reason_n be_v those_o two_o fâ—â—st_a sâ—e_n shall_v sin_v in_o tolerate_v a_o evil_a example_n that_o all_o covetous_a wretch_n will_v be_v ready_a to_o follow_v second_o he_o will_v hereby_o frustrate_v that_o great_a end_n for_o which_o the_o law_n be_v make_v and_o ordain_v the_o law_n be_v not_o make_v for_o the_o good_a and_o gentle_a and_o obedient_a but_o for_o the_o stubborn_a refractory_a disobedient_a and_o lawless_a that_o can_v and_o will_v not_o answer_v to_o their_o duty_n so_o as_o to_o perform_v it_o it_o be_v true_a it_o be_v desire_v that_o christian_a brethren_n will_v dwell_v so_o together_o in_o love_n and_o unity_n each_o one_o strive_v who_o shall_v go_v before_o another_o in_o ready_a performance_n of_o every_o just_a and_o equal_a thing_n that_o there_o need_v no_o go_v to_o law_n according_a to_o that_o we_o read_v 1_o cor._n 6.1_o etc._n etc._n most_o of_o which_o chapter_n be_v lay_v out_o on_o this_o very_a thing_n but_o whilst_o godly_a minister_n they_o both_o preach_v against_o and_o often_o time_n deny_v themselves_o in_o point_n of_o their_o own_o right_a to_o avoid_v this_o unchristian_a work_n of_o go_v to_o law_n and_o utter_o set_v themselves_o against_o any_o that_o shall_v go_v about_o to_o fleece_v the_o flock_n of_o christ_n and_o neglect_v the_o performance_n of_o their_o duty_n and_o in_o their_o sermon_n upon_o occasion_n preach_v against_o careless_a shepherd_n blind_a watchman_n and_o dumb_a dog_n as_o you_o can_v yet_o for_o all_o this_o if_o there_o be_v any_o that_o be_v not_o faithful_a in_o
