never_o before_o mention_v viz._n the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n in_o christ_n jesus_n 3._o the_o law_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o life_n in_o christ_n jesus_n set_v the_o person_n free_a as_o he_o judge_v it_o convenient_a to_o his_o present_a interest_n i_o say_v there_o be_v a_o sort_n of_o man_n that_o acknowledge_v a_o god_n and_o providence_n and_o the_o reality_n of_o moral_a good_a and_o evil_a just_a and_o unjust_a but_o they_o suspend_v their_o belief_n of_o the_o gospel_n and_o they_o be_v apt_a to_o applaud_v themselves_o and_o think_v themselves_o in_o a_o very_a good_a condition_n if_o they_o live_v honest_o and_o virtuous_o and_o depend_v upon_o god_n providence_n for_o protection_n in_o the_o way_n of_o virtue_n and_o conclude_v it_o shall_v all_o go_v well_o with_o they_o hereafter_o but_o how_o far_o be_v these_o remove_v from_o the_o strict_a observation_n of_o the_o working_n of_o their_o own_o heart_n which_o we_o find_v in_o this_o seven_o and_o 8_o chapter_n to_o the_o roman_n they_o ought_v not_o only_o to_o acknowledge_v the_o law_n of_o nature_n which_o no_o question_n they_o find_v some_o of_o they_o at_o least_o write_v in_o their_o heart_n according_a to_o what_o the_o apostle_n paul_n write_v in_o rom._n 2.14_o 15._o but_o they_o ought_v to_o find_v how_o hard_o it_o be_v to_o keep_v the_o law_n how_o this_o law_n convince_v they_o of_o sin_n and_o then_o when_o they_o think_v to_o amend_v their_o way_n and_o to_o do_v good_a how_o they_o be_v plunge_v by_o it_o into_o more_o sin_n and_o the_o more_o strict_a they_o be_v upon_o themselves_o and_o the_o more_o rigid_o they_o deal_v with_o themselves_o towards_o mortification_n of_o any_o extravagancy_n the_o more_o they_o shall_v find_v their_o lust_n enrage_v or_o perhaps_o fall_v into_o another_o extreme_a vice_n for_o i_o question_v not_o but_o it_o may_v be_v demonstrate_v by_o a_o able_a pen_n that_o all_o seek_v to_o mortify_v lust_n by_o the_o law_n only_o command_v and_o condemn_v will_v in_o the_o end_n make_v the_o better_a side_n the_o worse_o and_o though_o man_n may_v be_v as_o it_o be_v alive_a without_o the_o law_n and_o enjoy_v themselves_o very_o pleasant_o yes_o when_o they_o come_v strict_o to_o call_v themselves_o to_o account_v for_o their_o action_n intention_n rule_n conduct_v and_o management_n of_o themselves_o as_o under_o the_o law_n of_o god_n and_o seek_v in_o earnest_a to_o reform_v themselves_o by_o the_o law_n they_o shall_v raise_v such_o a_o confusion_n combustion_n and_o fermentation_n as_o shall_v make_v they_o almost_o distract_v and_o desperate_a the_o law_n â—s_v the_o most_o rigid_a schoolmaster_n that_o ever_o the_o world_n have_v it_o lash_v man_n with_o scorpion_n it_o never_o attain_v to_o any_o true_a rest_n till_o they_o come_v to_o say_v i_o thank_v god_n through_o jesus_n christ_n my_o lord_n i_o pity_v much_o these_o ingenious_a civil_a and_o half-vertuous_a gentleman_n that_o think_v they_o have_v make_v great_a attainment_n in_o religion_n by_o come_v to_o acknowledge_v that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n and_o athenian-like_a be_v still_o inquire_v after_o some_o innocent_a new_a discovery_n in_o nature_n or_o the_o politic_n etc._n etc._n but_o they_o little_o think_v of_o their_o rumble_a into_o hell_n for_o want_v of_o go_v further_o on_o in_o religion_n for_o if_o christ_n come_v from_o heaven_n to_o satisfy_v the_o law_n and_o to_o make_v a_o new_a and_o live_a way_n to_o god_n in_o his_o own_o blood_n he_o will_v not_o suffer_v himself_o to_o be_v so_o neglect_v by_o the_o gentile_a secure_a deist_n as_o not_o to_o be_v so_o much_o as_o inquire_v after_o how_o and_o which_o way_n he_o be_v to_o be_v a_o saviour_n that_o they_o must_v see_v they_o have_v offend_v the_o law_n and_o be_v condemn_v by_o the_o law_n and_o have_v no_o refuge_n but_o in_o he_o
