many_o do_v ignorant_o and_o wicked_o look_v on_o duty_n to_o man_n as_o somewhat_o extrinsic_a to_o religion_n and_o duty_n to_o god_n yet_o both_o have_v the_o same_o authority_n both_o be_v put_v in_o one_o sum_n of_o the_o law_n both_o be_v write_v on_o table_n of_o stone_n with_o the_o lord_n own_o finger_n and_o put_v within_o the_o ark_n and_o therefore_o we_o ought_v with_o a_o proportionable_a care_n to_o inquire_v what_o god_n require_v of_o we_o as_o duty_n to_o himself_o and_o we_o shall_v make_v no_o less_o conscience_n of_o obedience_n to_o the_o one_o then_o to_o the_o other_o before_o we_o come_v particular_o to_o the_o five_o command_n we_o shall_v speak_v a_o little_a to_o these_o two_o 1._o why_o love_n to_o god_n be_v call_v the_o first_o and_o great_a command_n and_o love_n to_o our_o neighbour_n the_o second_o and_o only_o like_a to_o the_o first_o matth._n 22.38_o 2._o why_o have_v the_o lord_n carve_v out_o man_n duty_n to_o other_o as_o well_o as_o to_o himself_o for_o the_o former_a of_o these_o consider_v in_o the_o first_o place_n that_o the_o command_n of_o the_o second_o table_n be_v equal_a to_o the_o command_n of_o the_o first_o in_o for_o the_o first_o four_o command_n require_v that_o which_o in_o its_o own_o nature_n be_v worship_n and_o â—s_n in_o a_o immediate_a way_n to_o be_v give_v to_o god_n but_o the_o duty_n require_v in_o the_o other_o six_o be_v not_o proper_o formal_o and_o immediate_o call_v for_o as_o part_n of_o worship_n to_o god_n though_o as_o they_o be_v acknowledgement_n of_o he_o they_o may_v be_v consequential_o thereto_o refer_v as_o to_o the_o 2._o why_o the_o lord_n have_v in_o so_o short_a a_o sum_n particular_o set_v down_o our_o duty_n to_o other_o as_o well_o as_o to_o himself_o and_o show_v how_o every_o one_o shall_v carry_v towards_o another_o we_o will_v speak_v to_o it_o the_o rather_o that_o there_o be_v six_o command_n in_o the_o second_o table_n and_o but_o â—our_n in_o the_o first_o table_n and_o the_o â—ords_n commend_v the_o duty_n of_o the_o see_v â—ond_a table_n have_v say_v the_o second_o be_v like_a unto_o the_o first_o because_o he_o will_v have_v it_o in_o our_o car_n â—ful_a observance_n go_v along_o with_o the_o first_o and_o the_o apostle_n as_o well_o as_o the_o lord_n in_o press_v holiness_n do_v ordinary_o instance_n in_o the_o duty_n of_o the_o second_o table_n as_o luke_n 10.26_o what_o be_v write_v in_o the_o law_n how_o read_v thou_o m_o â—th_n 5.27_o thou_o shall_v not_o commit_v adultery_n etc._n etc._n rom._n 13.8_o 9_o 10._o jam._n 2.8.11_o etc._n etc._n and_o the_o reason_n of_o it_o may_v be_v these_o 1._o to_o teach_v his_o people_n that_o it_o be_v his_o will_n that_o they_o shall_v be_v holy_a in_o all_o manner_n of_o conversation_n therefore_o there_o be_v no_o piece_n of_o duty_n call_v for_o but_o it_o be_v comprehend_v in_o a_o command_n even_o the_o least_o thing_n eat_v drink_v and_o whatsoever_o they_o do_v 1_o cor._n 10.31_o 1_o pet_n 1.15_o 16._o he_o will_v have_v they_o careful_a to_o be_v holy_a not_o only_o in_o the_o church_n but_o also_o in_o the_o market_n in_o the_o shop_n at_o home_n abroad_o not_o only_o in_o prayer_n but_o at_o the_o plough_n etc._n etc._n 2._o to_o hold_v out_o the_o great_a extent_n of_o holiness_n or_o what_o holiness_n he_o require_v in_o his_o people_n it_o be_v a_o great_a mistake_n in_o the_o pharisee_n that_o they_o place_v the_o main_a part_n of_o religion_n in_o the_o performance_n of_o external_a duty_n of_o the_o first_o table_n whereas_o the_o lord_n lay_v both_o table_n together_o to_o tell_v that_o they_o must_v march_v up_o together_o in_o our_o practice_n and_o that_o it_o will_v not_o be_v holiness_n in_o its_o self_n and_o in_o god_n account_n to_o perform_v the_o one_o without_o the_o other_o 3._o because_o the_o lord_n will_v have_v his_o law_n a_o perfect_a rule_n that_o the_o man_n of_o god_n may_v be_v perfect_a thorough_o furnish_v to_o every_o good_a word_n and_o work_n 2_o tim._n 3.17_o therefore_o be_v the_o second_o table_n give_v that_o we_o may_v know_v how_o to_o walk_v towards_o other_o as_o well_o as_o towards_o god_n that_o master_n may_v know_v their_o duty_n servant_n they_o etc._n etc._n and_o that_o none_o be_v leave_v to_o a_o arbitrariness_n therein_o but_o that_o all_o be_v tie_v to_o a_o rule_n 4._o because_o man_n be_v ready_a to_o slight_a holiness_n in_o reference_n to_o the_o second_o table_n hence_o there_o will_v be_v some_o kind_n of_o awe_n of_o god_n on_o man_n in_o reference_n to_o the_o duty_n of_o the_o first_o table_n so_o that_o they_o dare_v not_o altogether_o neglect_v prayer_n hear_v the_o word_n etc._n etc._n and_o yet_o they_o will_v make_v little_a or_o no_o conscience_n of_o love_v their_o neighbour_n or_o of_o show_v mercy_n as_o we_o see_v in_o the_o pharisee_n 5._o because_o it_o be_v no_o less_o necessary_a for_o christian_n live_v together_o as_o to_o their_o be_v and_o wellbeing_a and_o mutual_a thrive_a that_o they_o do_v duty_n one_o of_o they_o to_o another_o with_o respect_n to_o the_o command_n then_o that_o they_o all_o do_v their_o duty_n to_o he_o how_o else_o can_v folk_n live_v well_o together_o in_o a_o family_n or_o other_o society_n if_o each_o therein_o do_v not_o duty_n to_o another_o the_o neglect_v of_o this_o make_v they_o as_o a_o house_n divide_v against_o itself_o which_o can_v stand_v 6._o that_o the_o lord_n may_v have_v the_o more_o clear_a and_o convince_a ground_n of_o challenge_n against_o such_o as_o slight_v these_o command_n and_o live_v in_o envy_n malice_n oppression_n etc._n etc._n for_o none_o can_v say_v he_o know_v not_o these_o to_o be_v sin_n mic._n 67._o the_o lord_n have_v show_v thou_o o_o man_n what_o be_v good_a that_o thou_o do_v justice_n and_o love_v mercy_n etc._n etc._n and_o he_o begin_v at_o the_o duty_n of_o the_o second_o table_n the_o more_o to_o stop_v their_o mouth_n if_o they_o shall_v say_v they_o know_v not_o tha_z â—_o they_o shall_v be_v holy_a or_o how_o to_o be_v holy_a in_o these_o he_o have_v it_o to_o say_v that_o he_o have_v tell_v they_o for_o these_o and_o such_o like_a reason_n the_o lord_n have_v be_v so_o part_n ocular_a in_o and_o have_v add_v his_o authority_n unto_o the_o command_n of_o the_o second_o table_n as_o well_o as_o to_o these_o of_o the_o first_o that_o we_o may_v lay_v the_o great_a weight_n on_o they_o from_o the_o connection_n of_o the_o two_o table_n we_o may_v observe_v these_o three_o general_a â—_o first_o that_o there_o be_v no_o part_n of_o a_o man_n convers_a ition_n in_o reference_n to_o his_o walk_n with_o other_o as_o well_o as_o god_n whatever_o be_v his_o call_v or_o station_n but_o he_o ought_v to_o be_v religious_a and_o holy_a in_o it_o god_n have_v direct_v man_n how_o to_o carry_v in_o all_o thing_n 2._o that_o it_o be_v a_o necessary_a part_n of_o religion_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o command_n of_o god_n enjoin_v it_o and_o in_o order_n to_o our_o thrive_a in_o holiness_n to_o be_v conscientious_a in_o duty_n to_o other_o as_o well_o as_o in_o immediate_a duty_n to_o god_n who_o in_o his_o law_n require_v both_o 3._o that_o where_o kind_o and_o true_a obedience_n be_v give_v to_o the_o first_o table_n obedience_n will_v be_v give_v to_o the_o second_o also_o
