become_v unprofitable_a but_o indeed_o those_o rite_n do_v nothing_o but_o clothe_v the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n and_o set_v it_o forth_o to_o they_o so_o much_o shall_v serve_v for_o the_o dispatch_a of_o those_o five_o thing_n now_o hence_o you_o see_v how_o those_o difficulty_n may_v be_v answer_v that_o i_o mention_v before_o for_o example_n it_o be_v say_v the_o promise_n be_v make_v to_o the_o seed_n yet_o the_o promise_n be_v make_v to_o we_o object_n and_o yet_o again_o the_o covenant_n be_v make_v with_o abraham_n how_o can_v all_o these_o stand_v together_o ans._n the_o promise_n that_o be_v make_v to_o the_o seed_n that_o be_v to_o christ_n himself_o those_o be_v these_o promise_n thou_o shall_v be_v a_o priest_n for_o ever_o and_o i_o will_v give_v thou_o we_o by_o the_o power_n of_o christ_n that_o thing_n be_v require_v in_o us._n as_o for_o example_n the_o very_a habit_n of_o faith_n the_o very_a grace_n and_o power_n of_o believe_v that_o god_n have_v promise_v to_o give_v it_o belong_v to_o he_o but_o to_o believe_v to_o take_v the_o promise_n to_o accept_v of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o to_o receive_v he_o and_o the_o gift_n of_o righteousness_n by_o he_o this_o be_v require_v as_o a_o condition_n on_o our_o part_n and_o so_o much_o shall_v serve_v for_o the_o open_n of_o this_o and_o for_o this_o point_n the_o next_o question_n we_o have_v to_o propound_v to_o you_o quest._n be_v this_o how_o a_o man_n shall_v know_v whether_o he_o be_v within_o
and_o be_v able_a to_o describe_v he_o to_o other_o but_o for_o all_o this_o thou_o find_v not_o thy_o heart_n affection_a towards_o he_o thou_o see_v not_o that_o excellency_n and_o beauty_n that_o be_v in_o he_o so_o that_o thy_o heart_n be_v not_o enamour_v with_o he_o thou_o can_v not_o say_v thou_o love_v he_o with_o all_o thy_o heart_n with_o all_o thy_o soul_n and_o with_o all_o thy_o strength_n what_o will_v thou_o do_v in_o this_o case_n go_v to_o christ_n the_o prophet_n and_o beseech_v he_o that_o he_o will_v teach_v thou_o to_o know_v the_o lord_n this_o be_v his_o promise_n if_o thou_o pray_v to_o he_o and_o he_o do_v not_o do_v it_o urge_v he_o with_o this_o it_o be_v a_o part_n of_o his_o covenant_n that_o he_o have_v confirm_v by_o oath_n and_o must_v do_v it_o and_o belove_a be_v assure_v of_o this_o if_o we_o seek_v and_o be_v earnest_a with_o he_o he_o will_v teach_v we_o to_o know_v the_o lord_n and_o to_o know_v he_o so_o that_o we_o shall_v love_v he_o with_o all_o our_o soul_n and_o with_o all_o our_o strength_n the_o like_a may_v i_o say_v of_o any_o thing_n else_o put_v the_o case_n affliction_n come_v upon_o thou_o and_o thou_o be_v not_o able_a to_o be_v patient_a under_o such_o affliction_n suppose_v that_o it_o be_v a_o matter_n of_o disgrace_n and_o discredit_v that_o so_o wound_v thou_o that_o thy_o heart_n can_v be_v at_o rest_n what_o be_v the_o reason_n of_o this_o thou_o call_v to_o mind_n it_o may_v be_v all_o the_o rule_n of_o patience_n that_o shall_v teach_v thou_o to_o bear_v affliction_n well_o and_o yet_o thou_o be_v not_o able_a to_o do_v it_o the_o cause_n be_v because_o thou_o do_v not_o yet_o know_v these_o outward_a temptation_n these_o outward_a evil_n as_o thou_o ought_v to_o know_v they_o if_o thou_o do_v they_o will_v seem_v small_a to_o thy_o eye_n sin_n will_v be_v a_o exceed_a great_a grief_n but_o these_o will_v be_v but_o trifle_n and_o flea-bite_n in_o comparison_n of_o the_o other_o go_v to_o christ_n now_o and_o beseech_v he_o to_o show_v thou_o what_o be_v the_o nature_n of_o these_o outward_a cross_n and_o loss_n that_o thou_o may_v be_v teach_v of_o he_o once_o he_o be_v the_o great_a prophet_n that_o teach_v a_o man_n so_o he_o so_o present_v thing_n in_o their_o own_o colour_n to_o the_o understanding_n that_o the_o will_n and_o affection_n follow_v and_o apprehend_v they_o aright_o go_v to_o he_o and_o beseech_v he_o that_o thou_o may_v know_v they_o as_o thou_o ought_v and_o thou_o shall_v find_v that_o thou_o shall_v be_v able_a to_o beaâ—e_v the_o great_a cross_n with_o patience_n it_o shall_v be_v nothing_o then_o to_o thou_o it_o will_v appear_v to_o be_v a_o small_a matter_n when_o he_o have_v teach_v thou_o to_o judge_v aright_o thou_o shall_v not_o be_v deceive_v in_o it_o so_o likewise_o for_o pleasure_n when_o a_o man_n find_v his_o heart_n so_o wed_v to_o any_o sinful_a lust_n to_o any_o evil_a haunt_n wherein_o his_o heart_n be_v hold_v inordinate_o that_o it_o king_n be_v to_o guide_v and_o rule_v now_o if_o thou_o find_v thy_o heart_n unruly_a if_o thou_o find_v thyself_o subject_a to_o unruly_a affection_n to_o sinful_a inordinate_a lust_n which_o thou_o can_v not_o master_n it_o be_v a_o part_n of_o his_o kingdom_n now_o to_o set_v up_o his_o own_o government_n in_o thy_o heart_n to_o put_v his_o law_n into_o thy_o mind_n and_o to_o write_v it_o in_o thy_o inward_a part_n that_o so_o thou_o may_v be_v indeed_o subject_a to_o the_o kingdom_n of_o christ_n in_o a_o willing_a manner_n when_o a_o man_n see_v nothing_o as_o we_o say_v before_o but_o the_o outward_a letter_n of_o the_o law_n he_o will_v never_o be_v subject_a he_o will_v never_o yield_v obedience_n but_o christ_n come_v as_o a_o king_n now_o and_o put_v a_o inward_a disposition_n into_o the_o mind_n that_o shall_v answer_v the_o letter_n without_o and_o so_o he_o make_v a_o man_n subject_n to_o his_o government_n belove_a that_o phrase_n be_v to_o be_v mark_v heb._n 2._o 10._o law_n be_v put_v into_o his_o mind_n when_o it_o be_v put_v into_o his_o inward_a part_n i_o say_v when_o this_o be_v do_v than_o he_o make_v we_o king_n for_o when_o man_n have_v so_o much_o strength_n within_o themselves_o that_o they_o can_v guide_v and_o rule_v themselves_o and_o walk_v in_o the_o way_n of_o righteousness_n now_o they_o be_v make_v king_n and_o such_o king_n the_o lord_n make_v all_o those_o that_o come_v to_o he_o this_o be_v the_o first_o part_n of_o this_o kingdom_n the_o second_o part_n be_v to_o give_v we_o abundance_n of_o all_o thing_n to_o give_v we_o peace_n for_o the_o office_n of_o a_o king_n you_o know_v be_v to_o keep_v his_o people_n in_o peace_n as_o it_o be_v say_v of_o saul_n he_o clothe_v they_o with_o scarlet_a that_o be_v he_o make_v his_o people_n to_o abound_v with_o wealth_n and_o peace_n and_o quietness_n this_o the_o lord_n do_v likewise_o and_o this_o be_v a_o part_n of_o his_o spiritual_a kingdom_n now_o his_o kingdom_n be_v spiritual_a therefore_o the_o main_a work_n of_o it_o be_v to_o give_v we_o inward_a peace_n and_o joy_n you_o may_v have_v trouble_n in_o the_o world_n but_o my_o kingdom_n be_v not_o of_o this_o world_n and_o therefore_o we_o be_v not_o so_o much_o to_o expect_v a_o outward_a worldly_a peace_n though_o we_o have_v likewise_o a_o promise_n of_o that_o but_o in_o i_o you_o shall_v have_v inward_a peace_n say_v he_o the_o kingdom_n of_o god_n be_v in_o righteousness_n that_o be_v the_o first_o part_n when_o god_n work_v righteousness_n as_o i_o have_v name_v before_o the_o second_o be_v peace_n and_o joy_n so_o that_o that_o be_v a_o part_n of_o the_o covenant_n god_n promise_v inward_a peace_n and_o joy_n belove_v when_o you_o want_v it_o know_v it_o be_v a_o part_n of_o the_o covenant_n you_o may_v go_v to_o
the_o covenant_n so_o likewise_o you_o shall_v sprinkle_v the_o door_n post_v with_o the_o blood_n of_o the_o lamb_n that_o when_o the_o destroy_a angel_n shall_v come_v and_o see_v the_o blood_n he_o thou_o that_o thou_o think_v thou_o shall_v never_o be_v able_a to_o overcome_v yet_o god_n have_v promise_v to_o break_v the_o dominion_n of_o every_o sin_n that_o he_o will_v crucify_v the_o flesh_n with_o the_o affection_n of_o it_o that_o he_o will_v sanctify_v thou_o throughout_o belove_a you_o must_v believe_v those_o promise_n of_o sanctification_n as_o well_o as_o of_o justification_n for_o
