spirit_n instead_o of_o be_v legal_a and_o merciful_a prosecutor_n be_v dreadful_a oppressor_n &_o persecutor_n of_o such_o as_o be_v their_o fellow_n protestant_n xii_o now_o for_o as_o much_o as_o the_o poor_a protestant_a dissenter_n be_v prosecute_v and_o so_o be_v distress_v by_o divers_a law_n that_o be_v put_v in_o execution_n against_o they_o let_v those_o law_n be_v sober_o consider_v together_o with_o the_o person_n and_o thing_n for_o which_o they_o be_v prosecute_v that_o so_o neither_o the_o law_n nor_o the_o king_n subject_n may_v be_v abuse_v by_o reason_n of_o the_o the_o protestant_a dissenter_n be_v prosecute_v to_o their_o great_a damage_n for_o such_o thing_n as_o they_o do_v humble_o conclude_v to_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o their_o god_n with_o some_o sober_a consideration_n upon_o the_o say_a law_n take_v as_o follow_v the_o protestant_a dissenter_n be_v in_o some_o place_n prosecute_v by_o the_o statute_n anno_fw-la primo_fw-la reginae_fw-la elizabethae_fw-la chapter_n 2._o paragraph_n 14._o where_o it_o be_v ordain_v that_o all_o and_o every_o person_n and_o person_n inhabit_v within_o this_o realm_n or_o any_o other_o the_o queen_n dominion_n shall_v resort_v to_o their_o parish_n church_n or_o chappel_n or_o to_o some_o usual_a place_n where_o common-prayer_n and_o such_o service_n of_o god_n shall_v be_v sue_v upon_o every_o sunday_n and_o other_o day_n ordain_v and_o sue_v to_o be_v keep_v as_o holiday_n and_o then_o and_o there_o to_o abide_v orderly_o and_o sober_o during_o the_o time_n of_o the_o common-prayer_n preach_v or_o other_o service_n of_o god_n there_o to_o be_v use_v and_o minister_v upon_o pain_n of_o punishment_n by_o the_o censure_n of_o the_o church_n and_o also_o upon_o pain_n that_o every_o person_n so_o offend_v shall_v forfeit_v for_o every_o such_o offence_n twelvepence_n to_o be_v levy_v by_o the_o church_n warden_n of_o the_o parish_n where_o such_o offence_n shall_v be_v do_v to_o the_o use_n of_o the_o poor_a of_o the_o same_o parish_n of_o the_o good_n land_n and_o tenement_n of_o such_o offender_n by_o way_n of_o distress_n and_o in_o paragraph_n 20._o it_o be_v enact_v place_n or_o that_o shall_v use_v any_o other_o form_n or_o order_n of_o celebrate_v the_o sacrament_n or_o that_o shall_v use_v any_o matin_n or_o even_o song_n or_o other_o public_a prayer_n than_o be_v mention_v in_o the_o say_a book_n or_o that_o shall_v preach_v declare_v or_o speak_v anything_o in_o the_o derogation_n or_o deprave_v of_o the_o say_a book_n or_o any_o part_n thereof_o and_o shall_v be_v lawful_o convict_v thereof_o by_o the_o verdict_n of_o twelve_o man_n shall_v for_o his_o first_o offence_n forfeit_v all_o his_o spiritual_a benefice_n or_o promotion_n for_o one_o the_o cast_v out_o and_o throw_v down_o of_o popery_n 2._o that_o by_o this_o statute_n the_o protestant_a religion_n be_v revive_v and_o confirm_v and_o so_o the_o reformation_n be_v further_o carry_v on_o as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o reign_n of_o that_o happy_a prince_n edward_z the_o sixth_z 3._o consider_v that_o at_o the_o time_n of_o make_v this_o statute_n the_o whole_a realm_n do_v consist_v of_o protestant_n and_o papist_n consider_v as_o clergy_n and_o laity_n the_o realm_n be_v not_o then_o acquaint_v with_o such_o a_o thing_n as_o protestant-dissenters_a and_o therefore_o it_o can_v be_v fair_o suppose_v that_o this_o act_n be_v intend_v for_o such_o bare_o as_o such_o but_o the_o design_n of_o this_o act_n be_v first_o to_o settle_v a_o protestant-ministry_n to_o manage_v the_o protestant_a religion_n according_a to_o the_o light_n of_o that_o day_n second_o to_o remove_v all_o such_o as_o be_v popish_o affect_v from_o ministerial_a office_n that_o so_o they_o may_v not_o keep_v the_o queen_n subject_n in_o popish_a blindness_n
three_o to_o bring_v the_o people_n from_o popery_n to_o the_o protestant_a religion_n and_o therefore_o a_o gentle_a way_n of_o punishment_n be_v provide_v viz._n twelvepence_n forfeit_a for_o every_o sunday_n and_o holiday_n for_o not_o come_v to_o the_o place_n of_o common-prayer_n so_o as_o to_o hear_v it_o and_o attend_v it_o now_o if_o the_o poor_a protestant-dissenters_a must_v be_v punish_v by_o law_n for_o their_o nonconformity_n let_v such_o as_o be_v in_o authority_n consider_v that_o this_o law_n will_v not_o do_v their_o fellow_n protestant_n so_o much_o harm_n as_o some_o other_o law_n and_o yet_o this_o punishment_n of_o twelvepence_n a_o day_n be_v a_o heavy_a punishment_n for_o such_o poor_a people_n as_o be_v not_o worth_a twelvepence_n and_o more_o especial_o if_o five_o or_o ten_o or_o twenty_o day_n forfeit_v be_v lay_v upon_o such_o poor_a people_n 4._o consider_v that_o though_o this_o be_v a_o gentle_a way_n of_o punishment_n yet_o there_o be_v no_o word_n of_o god_n will_v justify_v it_o for_o god_n have_v not_o appoint_v any_o kind_n of_o fines_n or_o forfeiture_n great_a or_o small_a as_o a_o punishment_n for_o not_o conform_v to_o his_o worship_n and_o if_o either_o papist_n or_o protestant_n shall_v conform_v only_o to_o avoid_v this_o or_o any_o other_o punishment_n they_o will_v be_v but_o hypocrite_n the_o conformity_n be_v only_o to_o save_v their_o purse_n and_o not_o the_o act_n of_o their_o spirit_n 5._o consider_v that_o in_o the_o strictness_n of_o this_o statute_n if_o protestant_n may_v be_v prosecute_v great_a number_n of_o those_o that_o be_v church-protestants_a be_v a_o kind_n of_o nonconformist_n because_o they_o do_v not_o go_v to_o common-prayer_n upon_o every_o holiday_n and_o sure_o they_o will_v be_v loath_a to_o be_v so_o prosecute_v themselves_o as_o they_o prosecute_v their_o fellow_n protestant_n ii_o the_o next_o statute_n by_o which_o the_o protestant_a dissenter_n be_v prosecute_v and_o distress_a which_o now_o shall_v be_v discourse_v be_v anno_fw-la vicessimo_fw-la tertio_fw-la reginae_fw-la elizabethae_fw-la chap._n 1._o paragraph_n 5._o where_o it_o be_v enact_v that_o every_o person_n above_o the_o age_n of_o sixteen_o year_n which_o shall_v not_o repair_v to_o some_o church_n chappel_n or_o usual_a place_n of_o common-prayer_n but_o forbear_v the_o same_o contrary_a to_o the_o tenor_n of_o a_o statute_n make_v in_o the_o first_o year_n of_o her_o majesty_n reign_n for_o uniformity_n of_o common-prayer_n and_o be_v lawful_o convict_v shall_v forfeit_v to_o the_o queen_n majesty_n for_o every_o month_n twenty_o pound_n of_o english_a lawful_a money_n now_o for_o the_o better_a understanding_n of_o the_o aforesaid_a statute_n it_o will_v be_v best_a to_o peruse_v the_o religion_n see_v paragraph_n 1._o where_o there_o be_v mention_v make_v of_o divers_a ill_a affect_a person_n who_o use_v divers_a way_n and_o mean_n to_o withdraw_v her_o majesty_n subject_n from_o their_o due_a obedience_n to_o obey_v the_o usurp_v authority_n of_o rome_n see_v paragraph_n 2._o where_o it_o be_v enact_v that_o all_o person_n whatsoever_o that_o shall_v absolve_v or_o by_o any_o way_n or_o mean_n persuade_v the_o queen_n subject_n from_o their_o natural_a obedience_n to_o any_o obedience_n to_o the_o pretend_a authority_n of_o the_o see_v of_o rome_n or_o of_o any_o other_o say_v or_o sing_v mass_n be_v lawful_o convict_v shall_v forfeit_v the_o sum_n of_o two_o hundred_o mark_n and_o be_v commit_v to_o the_o next_o goal_n there_o to_o remain_v for_o the_o space_n of_o one_o year_n and_o that_o every_o person_n which_o shall_v willing_o hear_v mass_n shall_v forfeit_v one_o hundred_o mark_n and_o suffer_v imprisonment_n a_o year_n and_o in_o paragraph_n 5._o it_o be_v enact_v that_o every_o person_n above_o the_o age_n of_o sixteen_o year_n which_o shall_v not_o repair_v to_o some_o church_n or_o chappel_n or_o usual_a place_n of_o common-prayer_n shall_v confirmation_n of_o the_o protestant_a religion_n and_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o queen_n as_o a_o protestant_a monarch_n in_o her_o own_o realm_n in_o opposition_n to_o any_o pretend_a authority_n by_o the_o see_v of_o rome_n be_v plain_o assert_v 2._o a_o further_a proceed_v in_o provide_v punishment_n for_o those_o that_o shall_v maintain_v the_o authority_n of_o rome_n in_o this_o realm_n authority_n of_o rome_n and_o be_v not_o bring_v to_o submit_v to_o the_o protestant_a religion_n and_o therefore_o further_o provision_n be_v make_v by_o a_o great_a penalty_n to_o reduce_v they_o viz._n from_o twelvepence_n a_o day_n unto_o twenty_o pound_n a_o month._n 4._o and_o though_o this_o statute_n do_v mention_v every_o person_n above_o the_o age_n of_o sixteen_o year_n as_o be_v have_v be_v distinguish_v from_o the_o popish_a party_n by_o some_o other_o name_n as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o statute_n of_o the_o 35th_o of_o elizabeth_n which_o shall_v be_v next_o discourse_v of_o and_o therefore_o to_o prosecute_v the_o protestant_a dissenter_n by_o this_o law_n which_o undoubted_o be_v make_v against_o the_o papist_n and_o be_v doubtful_a whether_o it_o be_v make_v against_o any_o protestant_n seem_v to_o be_v hard_a deal_n especial_o consider_v that_o there_o be_v other_o law_n by_o which_o the_o protestant_a dissenter_n have_v be_v and_o still_o be_v great_o distress_v 6._o consider_v the_o greatness_n of_o this_o punishment_n viz._n of_o the_o forfeiture_n of_o twenty_o pound_n a_o month_n for_o not_o repair_v to_o some_o church_n of_o chapel_n or_o usual_a place_n of_o common-prayer_n for_o though_o a_o person_n may_v be_v indict_v but_o for_o one_o month_n and_o be_v convict_v thereof_o he_o shall_v forfeit_v twenty_o pound_n a_o month_n all_o the_o time_n after_o such_o conviction_n until_o he_o shall_v make_v such_o submission_n in_o a_o way_n of_o conformity_n as_o the_o law_n do_v require_v without_o any_o more_o indictment_n or_o conviction_n see_v to_o escape_v the_o penalty_n of_o the_o law_n in_o that_o behalf_n provide_v who_o notwithstanding_o do_v adhere_v in_o their_o heart_n to_o the_o popish_a religion_n and_o so_o by_o the_o infection_n draw_v from_o thence_o be_v ready_a to_o entertain_v and_o execute_v any_o treasonable_a conspiracy_n as_o do_v evident_o appear_v by_o that_o more_o than_o barbarous_a and_o horrible_a attempt_n to_o have_v blow_v up_o with_o gunpowder_n the_o king_n queen_n prince_z lord_n and_o commons_o assemble_v in_o parliament_n 2._o in_o paragraph_v the_o second_o and_o three_o it_o be_v enact_v for_o the_o better_a discovery_n of_o such_o evil_a person_n viz._n every_o popish_a recusant_n convict_v or_o that_o shall_v be_v convict_v and_o that_o shall_v afterward_o conform_v to_o come_v to_o church_n and_o common_a prayer_n shall_v also_o take_v and_o receive_v the_o sacrament_n once_o in_o every_o year_n follow_v and_o if_o they_o do_v not_o than_o they_o shall_v forfeit_v for_o the_o first_o year_n twenty_o pound_n and_o for_o the_o second_o year_n forty_o pound_n and_o for_o every_o year_n after_o threescore_o pound_n 3._o in_o the_o four_o paragraph_n it_o be_v enact_v that_o the_o churchwarden_n and_o constable_n of_o their_o respective_a town_n or_o parish_n and_o chief_a constable_n of_o the_o hundred_o shall_v present_v the_o monthly_a absence_n from_o church_n of_o all_o manner_n of_o popish_a recusant_n within_o such_o town_n and_o parish_n mark_v those_o plain_a word_n of_o the_o say_a statute_n it_o be_v not_o say_v they_o shall_v present_a protestant_n but_o popish_a recusant_n 4._o in_o paragraph_v the_o five_o it_o be_v enact_v that_o such_o church_n warden_n constable_n and_o high-constable_n for_o every_o default_n in_o not_o present_v such_o recusant_n shall_v forfeit_v twenty_o shilling_n and_o if_o they_o do_v make_v such_o presentment_n they_o shall_v be_v record_v by_o the_o clerk_n of_o the_o session_n without_o maintenance_n of_o his_o family_n and_o then_o this_o statute_n viz._n the_o three_o of_o king_n james_n do_v further_a provide_v that_o the_o king_n shall_v have_v power_n to_o refuse_v the_o twenty_o pound_v a_o month_n though_o the_o offender_n be_v ready_a to_o pay_v it_o according_a to_o the_o statute_n of_o 29_o of_o elizabeth_n and_o if_o he_o please_v may_v take_v seize_v and_o enjoy_v the_o two_o part_n of_o the_o offender_n estate_n and_o the_o reason_n for_o so_o do_v be_v because_o the_o popish_a party_n who_o be_v man_n of_o great_a estate_n can_v bear_v the_o payment_n of_o twenty_o pound_n a_o month_n and_o so_o retain_v the_o residue_n of_o their_o live_n and_o inheritance_n in_o their_o own_o hand_n which_o as_o the_o say_a statute_n say_v be_v for_o the_o most_o part_n employ_v to_o the_o maintenance_n of_o superstition_n and_o popish_a religion_n and_o to_o the_o relief_n of_o jesuit_n seminary_n priest_n and_o other_o dangeron_n person_n to_o the_o state_n now_o from_o these_o thing_n sober_o consider_v in_o compare_v one_o statute_n with_o another_o it_o seem_v evident_a that_o the_o aforesaid_a statute_n be_v design_v and_o intend_v for_o the_o papist_n they_o be_v so_o often_o mention_v in_o plain_a word_n viz._n jesuit_n seminary_n priest_n and_o other_o priest_n and_o deacon_n belong_v to_o the_o see_v of_o rome_n and_o all_o manner_n of_o popish_a recusant_n and_o no_o mention_n of_o any_o other_o person_n distinguish_v from_o the_o papist_n and_o therefore_o it_o seem_v hard_a measure_n that_o such_o as_o be_v know_v and_o sufficient_o own_v to_o be_v protestant_n by_o the_o several_a neighbourhood_n where_o they_o dwell_v throughout_o this_o kingdom_n shall_v be_v prosecute_v by_o such_o law_n in_o which_o they_o be_v not_o at_o all_o mention_v especial_o see_v there_o be_v other_o law_n by_o which_o they_o be_v sufficient_o distress_v iii_o another_o law_n by_o which_o the_o protestant_a dissenter_n have_v be_v and_o still_o be_v liable_a to_o be_v prosecute_v be_v the_o statute_n of_o anno_fw-la tricessimo_fw-la quinto_fw-la reginae_fw-la elizabethae_fw-la chap._n 1._o in_o which_o statute_n these_o thing_n other_o to_o deny_v withstand_v or_o impugn_v her_o majesty_n power_n and_o authority_n in_o case_n ecclesiastical_a or_o shall_v advise_o and_o malicious_o move_v or_o persuade_v any_o other_o person_n to_o forbear_v to_o come_v to_o church_n to_o hear_v divine_a service_n or_o the_o communion_n according_a to_o her_o majesty_n law_n or_o to_o come_v to_o or_o be_v present_a at_o any_o unlawful_a assembly_n conventicle_n or_o meeting_n under_o colour_n or_o pretence_n of_o any_o exercise_n of_o religion_n contrary_a to_o her_o majesty_n say_v law_n and_o statute_n or_o shall_v willing_o join_v in_o or_o be_v present_a at_o any_o such_o assembly_n conventicle_n or_o meeting_n that_o then_o every_o such_o offender_n be_v lawful_o convict_v shall_v be_v commit_v to_o prison_n there_o to_o remain_v without_o bail_n or_o mainprize_n until_o they_o shall_v conform_v and_o yield_v themselves_o to_o come_v to_o some_o church_n or_o chappel_n or_o usual_a place_n of_o common-prayer_n and_o hear_v divine_a service_n see_v paragraph_n 1_o 2._o it_o be_v provide_v in_o the_o same_o statute_n that_o if_o such_o offender_n so_o convict_v as_o aforesaid_a shall_v not_o conform_v in_o come_v to_o church_n to_o hear_v divine_a service_n and_o to_o make_v such_o open_a confession_n as_o be_v after_o appoint_v by_o this_o statute_n be_v require_v thereunto_o within_o the_o space_n of_o three_o month_n after_o conviction_n by_o the_o bishop_n of_o the_o diocese_n or_o any_o justice_n of_o peace_n of_o the_o county_n where_o the_o person_n shall_v happen_v to_o be_v or_o by_o the_o minister_n or_o curate_n of_o the_o parish_n that_o then_o every_o such_o offender_n upon_o his_o be_v warn_v and_o require_v by_o any_o justice_n of_o peace_n of_o the_o same_o county_n shall_v upon_o his_o corporal_a oath_n abjure_v this_o realm_n and_o all_o other_o her_o majesty_n dominion_n and_o country_n and_o shall_v not_o return_v without_o licence_n from_o her_o majesty_n see_v paragraph_n 2._o 3._o it_o be_v provide_v that_o if_o such_o offender_n shall_v refuse_v to_o make_v such_o abjuration_n as_o aforesaid_a or_o after_o objuration_n make_v shall_v not_o depart_v out_o of_o this_o realm_n according_a to_o this_o present_a act_n or_o after_o such_o his_o departure_n shall_v return_v again_o without_o her_o majesty_n licence_n that_o then_o in_o every_o such_o case_n the_o person_n offend_v shall_v be_v adjudge_v a_o felon_n and_o shall_v suffer_v as_o in_o the_o case_n of_o felony_n without_o the_o benefit_n of_o clergy_n see_v paragraph_n 3_o 4._o it_o be_v further_a enact_v that_o if_o such_o offender_n before_o he_o or_o they_o be_v so_o warn_v or_o require_v to_o make_v abjuration_n shall_v repair_v to_o some_o parish-church_n on_o some_o sunday_n or_o festival_n day_n and_o there_o hear_v divine_a service_n and_o make_v public_a and_o open_a submission_n and_o declaration_n of_o his_o and_o their_o conformity_n that_o then_o the_o same_o offender_n shall_v be_v clear_o discharge_v of_o all_o the_o penalty_n and_o punishment_n inflict_v or_o impose_v by_o this_o act._n the_o form_n of_o submission_n be_v as_o follow_v see_v paragraph_n 4._o 5._o i_o a_o b._n do_v humble_o confess_v and_o acknowledge_v that_o i_o have_v grievous_o offend_v god_n in_o contemn_v her_o majesty_n godly_a and_o lawful_a government_n and_o authority_n by_o absent_v myself_o from_o church_n and_o from_o hear_v divine_a service_n contrary_a to_o the_o godly_a law_n and_o statute_n of_o this_o realm_n and_o in_o use_v and_o frequent_v disorder_v and_o unlawful_a conventicle_n and_o assembly_n under_o pretence_n and_o colour_n of_o exercise_n of_o religion_n and_o i_o be_o hearty_o sorry_a for_o the_o same_o and_o do_v acknowledge_v and_o testify_v in_o my_o conscience_n that_o no_o other_o person_n have_v or_o aught_o to_o have_v power_n over_o her_o majesty_n and_o i_o do_v promise_n and_o protest_v without_o any_o dissimulation_n or_o any_o colour_n or_o mean_n of_o any_o dispensation_n that_o from_o henceforth_o i_o will_v from_o time_n to_o time_n obey_v and_o perform_v her_o majesty_n law_n and_o statute_n by_o this_o act._n that_o no_o popish_a recusant_n or_o feme-covert_a shall_v be_v compel_v or_o bind_v to_o abjure_v by_o virtue_n of_o this_o act_n see_v paragraph_n 12._o 7._o it_o be_v further_a provide_v by_o this_o statute_n that_o every_o person_n that_o shall_v abjure_v or_o refuse_v to_o abjure_v be_v require_v thereunto_o as_o aforesaid_a shall_v forfeit_v and_o lose_v to_o her_o majesty_n all_o his_o good_n and_o chattle_n for_o ever_o and_o shall_v further_o lose_v all_o his_o land_n tenement_n and_o hereditament_n for_o and_o during_o the_o life_n only_o of_o such_o offender_n &_o no_o long_o and_o that_o the_o wife_n of_o such_o offender_n shall_v not_o lose_v her_o dower_n and_o that_o the_o heir_n of_o such_o offender_n after_o the_o death_n of_o such_o offender_n shall_v have_v and_o enjoy_v the_o land_n tenement_n and_o hereditament_n of_o such_o offender_n from_o this_o statute_n let_v these_o thing_n be_v consider_v 1._o that_o it_o be_v evident_a this_o statute_n be_v make_v for_o the_o punish_n of_o sueh_a as_o be_v not_o at_o all_o account_v papist_n or_o popish_a recusant_n and_o this_o will_v appear_v in_o these_o follow_a reason_n first_o because_o the_o design_n of_o the_o statute_n be_v for_o the_o prevent_n and_o avoid_v of_o great_a inconvenience_n and_o peril_n as_o may_v happen_v and_o grow_v by_o the_o wicked_a and_o dangerous_a practice_n of_o seditious_a sectary_n and_o disloyal_a person_n now_o this_o word_n seditious_a sectary_n do_v distinguish_v some_o person_n from_o those_o that_o by_o the_o law_n of_o this_o realm_n be_v call_v papist_n or_o popish_a recusant_n second_o because_o popish_a recusant_n be_v exempt_v from_o abjure_v of_o the_o realm_n by_o virtue_n of_o the_o aforesaid_a statute_n which_o be_v a_o plain_a demonstration_n that_o the_o severity_n of_o this_o same_o law_n be_v make_v and_o intend_v for_o such_o as_o be_v not_o papist_n or_o popish_a recusant_n and_o therefore_o good_a reason_n to_o conclude_v that_o those_o other_o statute_n in_o which_o mention_n be_v make_v of_o the_o popish_a party_n be_v make_v only_o against_o they_o and_o not_o against_o such_o as_o be_v in_o this_o statute_n call_v sectary_n who_o be_v not_o papist_n 2._o consider_v how_o those_o person_n be_v describe_v for_o who_o the_o punishment_n of_o this_o statute_n be_v provide_v viz._n seditious_a sectary_n and_o disloyal_a person_n see_v paragraph_n 1_o and_o for_o as_o much_o as_o this_o law_n have_v be_v put_v in_o execution_n against_o the_o protestant_a dissenter_n it_o be_v 4.19_o the_o bless_a apostle_n paul_n be_v accuse_v of_o sedition_n and_o be_v a_o ringleader_n therein_o see_v act_n 24.5_o for_o we_o have_v find_v this_o man_n a_o pestilent_a fellow_n and_o a_o mover_n of_o sedition_n among_o all_o the_o jew_n throughout_o the_o world_n and_o a_o ringleader_n of_o the_o sect_n of_o the_o nazarene_n thus_o it_o be_v evident_a from_o the_o holy_a scripture_n that_o the_o best_a of_o person_n have_v go_v under_o the_o worst_a name_n be_v deem_v such_o as_o indeed_o they_o be_v not_o our_o lord_n and_o saviour_n jesus_n christ_n be_v call_v a_o devil_n yea_o belzebub_n the_o prince_n of_o the_o devil_n and_o he_o be_v prosecute_v unto_o death_n as_o be_v a_o blasphemer_n and_o therefore_o it_o must_v not_o be_v wonder_v at_o if_o those_o that_o be_v now_o most_o pure_a in_o the_o profession_n and_o practire_n of_o the_o christian_a religion_n be_v call_v seditious_a sectary_n and_o disloyal_a person_n though_o indeed_o and_o in_o truth_n they_o be_v not_o such_o as_o may_v be_v true_o say_v of_o the_o protestant_a dissenter_n 1._o they_o be_v not_o seditious_a person_n because_o they_o make_v the_o word_n of_o god_n the_o rule_n of_o their_o faith_n and_o practice_n promote_a the_o christian_a religion_n in_o every_o part_n of_o it_o as_o it_o be_v in_o opposition_n to_o popery_n according_a to_o the_o best_a of_o their_o light_n and_o knowledge_n in_o the_o holy_a scripture_n endeavour_v to_o
live_v a_o holy_a life_n and_o conversation_n suitable_a to_o such_o a_o holy_a profession_n and_o therefore_o aught_o to_o be_v deem_v good_a protestant_n though_o in_o some_o thing_n they_o differ_v from_o the_o church-protestants_a especial_o consider_v that_o those_o thing_n in_o the_o protestant_a religion_n wherein_o both_o party_n do_v agree_v be_v great_a than_o those_o thing_n wherein_o they_o do_v differ_v and_o yet_o those_o thing_n wherein_o they_o differ_v be_v such_o as_o each_o party_n can_v conform_v to_o without_o wrong_v of_o their_o conscience_n and_o doubtless_o the_o church-protestants_a will_v think_v it_o hard_a measure_n if_o they_o shall_v be_v force_v to_o conform_v to_o the_o dissenter_n even_o as_o the_o dissenter_n think_v it_o hard_a measure_n to_o be_v force_v to_o conform_v to_o the_o church-protestants_a and_o therefore_o each_o party_n shall_v labour_v to_o walk_v by_o that_o golden_a rule_n that_o christ_n have_v give_v in_o mat._n 7.12_o whatsoever_o you_o will_v that_o man_n shall_v do_v unto_o you_o do_v you_o even_o to_o they_o for_o this_o be_v the_o law_n and_o the_o prophet_n 2._o the_o protestant_a dissenter_n can_v fair_o be_v nonconformity_n in_o not_o submit_v to_o the_o religion_n as_o it_o be_v establish_v by_o law_n and_o yet_o they_o be_v loyal_a subject_n and_o so_o it_o may_v be_v true_o say_v of_o the_o french_a protestant_n their_o nonconformity_n do_v not_o destroy_v their_o loyalty_n thus_o it_o be_v evident_a that_o nonconformity_n be_v consistent_a with_o true_a loyalty_n yet_o it_o may_v be_v further_o demonstrate_v that_o nonconformity_n may_v be_v attend_v with_o the_o great_a loyalty_n when_o conformity_n may_v be_v attend_v with_o the_o great_a disloyalty_n as_o do_v appear_v in_o that_o famous_a instance_n of_o mordeâ—ai_n who_o be_v a_o notorious_a nonconformist_a in_o not_o submit_v to_o the_o establish_v worship_n of_o that_o kingdom_n and_o yet_o such_o be_v his_o loyalty_n that_o he_o discover_v the_o treason_n of_o two_o of_o the_o king_n chamberlain_n who_o may_v well_o be_v conclude_v to_o be_v the_o conformist_n in_o religious_a matter_n and_o yet_o design_v to_o deprive_v the_o king_n of_o his_o life_n but_o mordecai_n the_o nonconformist_a do_v save_v the_o king_n life_n though_o he_o go_v some_o considerable_a time_n unrewarded_a for_o that_o his_o loyal_a
