faith_n now_o the_o reason_n why_o the_o devil_n labour_v so_o much_o against_o our_o faith_n be_v because_o we_o can_v true_o rely_v upon_o god_n mercy_n nor_o depend_v upon_o his_o providence_n nor_o yield_v any_o acceptable_a obedience_n to_o his_o commandment_n unless_o we_o believe_v his_o word_n more_o particular_o we_o be_v to_o observe_v that_o special_a branch_n of_o god_n word_n which_o the_o devil_n will_v have_v christ_n not_o to_o believe_v even_o that_o voice_n of_o his_o father_n which_o a_o little_a before_o christ_n hear_v from_o heaven_n at_o his_o baptism_n this_o foolishness_n unto_o they_o second_o the_o devil_n take_v occasion_n of_o his_o former_a temptation_n from_o christ_n infirmity_n of_o hunger_n but_o perceive_v christ_n sure_a faith_n in_o his_o father_n word_n by_o his_o gracious_a answer_n to_o that_o assault_n here_o he_o borrow_v his_o temptation_n from_o that_o profession_n of_o his_o faith_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v say_v thou_o seem_v to_o be_v resolve_v of_o the_o truth_n of_o thy_o father_n word_n that_o thou_o be_v the_o son_n of_o god_n and_o if_o that_o be_v true_a indeed_o then_o show_v it_o by_o this_o miracle_n cast_v thyself_o down_o here_o then_o behold_v another_o trick_n of_o satan_n if_o he_o can_v prevail_v by_o assault_n draw_v from_o our_o infirmity_n then_o will_v he_o assay_v we_o by_o temptation_n draw_v from_o god_n good_a gift_n and_o grace_n in_o we_o if_o he_o can_v keep_v a_o man_n in_o ignorance_n that_o have_v good_a gift_n of_o wit_n &_o memory_n then_o will_v he_o seek_v from_o his_o knowledge_n to_o puff_n he_o up_o with_o pride_n and_o so_o mingle_v his_o poison_n with_o god_n good_a gift_n do_v cause_n many_o a_o one_o to_o become_v a_o bane_n to_o god_n church_n that_o otherwise_o may_v have_v prove_v a_o excellent_a instrument_n therein_o as_o may_v easy_o be_v show_v in_o sundry_a particular_n three_o restrain_v here_o mark_v how_o satan_n malice_n be_v restrain_v and_o his_o power_n limit_v by_o god_n permission_n he_o be_v able_a to_o carry_v christ_n from_o the_o wilderness_n to_o jerusalem_n and_o there_o to_o set_v he_o in_o a_o most_o dangerous_a place_n on_o a_o wing_n of_o the_o temple_n the_o thing_n he_o now_o desire_v be_v his_o destruction_n by_o cast_v down_o head_n long_o but_o that_o he_o can_v not_o do_v and_o therefore_o persuade_v christ_n to_o cast_v himself_o down_o wherein_o we_o see_v the_o special_a providence_n of_o god_n over_o christ_n jesus_n in_o all_o these_o temptation_n restrain_v his_o enemy_n in_o the_o thing_n he_o most_o desire_a and_o the_o same_o providence_n do_v he_o still_o continue_v over_o his_o church_n for_o the_o effectual_a preservation_n of_o christ_n member_n in_o all_o their_o temptation_n the_o devil_n unwearied_a desire_n &_o drift_n be_v to_o bring_v contention_n hurliburly_n and_o ruin_n into_o all_o society_n in_o church_n and_o commonwealth_n therefore_o the_o peace_n and_o tranquillity_n of_o these_o be_v and_o so_o must_v be_v acknowledge_v a_o notable_a fruit_n of_o god_n bless_a providence_n restrain_v the_o spite_n and_o malice_n of_o satan_n again_o hence_o it_o be_v evident_a that_o in_o temptation_n satan_n can_v go_v beyond_o the_o permission_n of_o
