nine_o verse_n follow_v the_o apostle_n fear_v that_o some_o of_o they_o to_o who_o he_o do_v write_v may_v take_v hold_n of_o his_o former_a doctrine_n and_o apply_v it_o to_o themselves_o may_v think_v themselves_o in_o that_o fearful_a state_n of_o relapse_n which_o before_o he_o have_v speak_v of_o prevent_v this_o objection_n and_o say_v notwithstanding_o we_o be_v persuade_v better_a thing_n of_o you_o and_o such_o as_o accompany_v salvation_n so_o he_o show_v that_o there_o be_v better_a thing_n than_o so_o to_o be_v once_o enlighten_v so_o to_o have_v taste_v of_o the_o heavenly_a gift_n so_o to_o have_v be_v make_v partaker_n of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n so_o to_o have_v taste_v of_o the_o good_a word_n of_o god_n and_o of_o the_o power_n of_o the_o world_n to_o come_v as_o before_o he_o have_v speak_v so_o also_o he_o teach_v that_o those_o better_a thing_n only_o which_o he_o mean_v in_o the_o nine_o verse_n do_v accompany_v salvation_n and_o that_o therefore_o he_o have_v not_o before_o mean_v a_o true_a lively_a and_o justify_v faith_n and_o that_o unfeigned_a and_o pure_a christian_a love_n whereby_o faith_n work_v for_o what_o better_a thing_n can_v there_o be_v than_o this_o faith_n and_o love_n if_o yet_o any_o reply_n that_o that_o nine_o verse_n be_v not_o to_o be_v understand_v in_o respect_n of_o the_o thing_n mention_v in_o the_o 4._o 5._o and_o 6._o verse_n but_o only_o of_o that_o which_o be_v say_v in_o the_o 7._o and_o 8._o verse_n i_o answer_v that_o this_o be_v but_o a_o heartless_a pithless_a and_o strengthless_a objection_n yea_o indeed_o foolish_a and_o ridiculous_a for_o the_o 7._o and_o 8._o verse_n be_v the_o confirmation_n of_o that_o which_o be_v say_v in_o the_o 4._o 5._o and_o 6._o verse_n how_o can_v the_o 9_o verse_n be_v refer_v only_o to_o the_o 7._o and_o 8._o verse_n and_o not_o also_o to_o the_o 4._o 5._o and_o 6_o in_o this_o point_n of_o the_o certainty_n of_o our_o future_a likeness_n unto_o christ_n let_v we_o observe_v the_o first_o person_n we_o know_v and_o that_o we_o shall_v be_v like_a thereby_o he_o teach_v that_o only_o they_o and_o all_o they_o shall_v be_v like_a unto_o christ_n which_o before_o he_o have_v say_v be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n all_o they_o indeed_o have_v not_o always_o the_o like_a knowledge_n or_o the_o like_a feel_n of_o this_o knowledge_n of_o their_o likeness_n to_o christ_n because_o of_o some_o affliction_n and_o because_o of_o too_o much_o liberty_n give_v to_o their_o sin_n which_o by_o the_o say_a liberty_n do_v grow_v up_o to_o be_v a_o thick_a grove_n to_o stand_v before_o their_o window_n and_o to_o eclipse_v obscure_a and_o hide_v the_o light_n of_o the_o sun_n of_o righteousness_n from_o shine_v into_o the_o house_n of_o their_o inner_a man_n so_o clear_o as_o in_o former_a time_n it_o have_v do_v as_o man_n also_o though_o never_o so_o learned_a in_o their_o sleep_n have_v no_o more_o use_n of_o their_o learning_n then_o man_n altogether_o unlearned_a and_o yet_o for_o all_o that_o they_o still_o have_v that_o learning_n which_o they_o have_v wake_v so_o be_v it_o with_o the_o child_n of_o god_n touch_v this_o their_o knowledge_n of_o their_o likeness_n unto_o christ_n be_v sometime_o overtake_v with_o the_o sleep_n of_o some_o or_o of_o many_o sin_n for_o a_o time_n they_o be_v deprive_v of_o the_o use_n of_o the_o former_a knowledge_n viz._n so_o long_o as_o their_o say_a sleep_n in_o sin_n continue_v notwithstanding_o they_o still_o have_v their_o former_a knowledge_n and_o shall_v recover_v the_o use_n of_o it_o again_o when_o they_o shall_v be_v awaken_v out_o of_o their_o sleep_n of_o sin_n but_o to_o this_o point_n many_o thing_n may_v be_v refer_v that_o have_v be_v speak_v in_o the_o former_a part_n of_o this_o treatise_n therefore_o i_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o speak_v any_o more_o thereof_o in_o this_o place_n the_o more_o excellent_a that_o the_o subject_n of_o this_o why_o it_o do_v not_o appear_v what_o the_o child_n of_o god_n shall_v be_v of_o the_o godly_a that_o there_o be_v of_o the_o wicked_a howsoever_o by_o regeneration_n there_o be_v a_o change_n make_v and_o a_o alteration_n in_o quality_n both_o inward_a and_o outward_a yet_o still_o they_o remain_v man_n as_o before_o they_o do_v and_o that_o not_o touch_v their_o body_n only_o but_o also_o touch_v their_o soul_n some_o indeed_o have_v dream_v that_o the_o very_a essence_n and_o substance_n of_o the_o soul_n in_o regeneration_n be_v take_v away_o and_o that_o a_o new_a soul_n be_v but_o this_o hope_n of_o the_o child_n of_o god_n be_v join_v with_o certain_a knowledge_n and_o be_v the_o expectation_n of_o those_o thing_n which_o we_o know_v most_o certain_o and_o for_o which_o we_o have_v god_n promise_v confirm_v with_o a_o oath_n and_o many_o other_o assurance_n but_o of_o this_o we_o have_v speak_v so_o large_o before_o in_o chap._n 14_o that_o we_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o speak_v any_o more_o in_o this_o place_n let_v the_o papist_n therefore_o go_v with_o their_o uncertainty_n and_o let_v their_o life_n still_o be_v miserable_a by_o uncertainty_n altogether_o disquiet_v and_o full_a of_o fear_n but_o let_v we_o hold_v our_o certainty_n and_o labour_v daily_o more_o and_o more_o to_o increase_v the_o same_o by_o purge_v every_o man_n himself_o as_o it_o unlearned_a nor_o learned_a neither_o base_a nor_o noble_a neither_o woman_n nor_o man_n neither_o he_o that_o be_v in_o adversity_n nor_o he_o that_o be_v in_o most_o prosperity_n neither_o subject_n nor_o king_n whosoever_o he_o be_v that_o have_v this_o hope_n purge_v himself_o whosoever_o he_o be_v that_o have_v not_o this_o hope_n do_v not_o purge_v himself_o neither_o can_v purge_v himself_o within_o he_o in_o his_o heart_n many_o that_o make_v profession_n of_o this_o hope_n and_o that_o say_v they_o hope_v and_o look_v to_o be_v save_v and_o to_o be_v make_v like_o unto_o christ_n at_o
