occasion_n hereby_o to_o sin_n again_o hope_v to_o escape_v as_o in_o former_a time_n and_o of_o such_o the_o wise_a man_n speak_v eccles_n 8.11_o because_o sentence_n against_o a_o evil_a work_n be_v not_o execute_v speedy_o 8.11_o eccles_n 8.11_o therefore_o the_o heart_n of_o the_o child_n of_o man_n be_v full_o set_v in_o they_o to_o do_v evil_a in_o the_o other_o respect_n such_o offend_v as_o have_v true_a faith_n beget_v in_o we_o whereby_o we_o be_v assure_v of_o god_n mercy_n in_o jesus_n christ_n and_o of_o the_o full_a remission_n of_o all_o our_o sin_n the_o consideration_n whereof_o do_v comfort_n and_o raise_v we_o up_o from_o fall_v into_o desperation_n and_o utter_a destruction_n seventh_o after_o this_o assurance_n of_o god_n love_n and_o of_o the_o forgiveness_n of_o our_o sin_n there_o follow_v first_o a_o true_a hatred_n of_o sin_n because_o it_o be_v sin_n a_o unfeigned_a sorrow_n not_o so_o much_o in_o regard_n of_o the_o punishment_n which_o by_o our_o sin_n we_o have_v just_o deserve_v as_o that_o because_o we_o have_v offend_v our_o so_o gracious_a a_o god_n and_o tender_a love_a father_n second_o this_o sorrow_n will_v not_o suffer_v we_o to_o hide_v apostatical_a synagogue_n do_v hold_v and_o defend_v and_o therefore_o i_o shall_v not_o need_v to_o entreat_v hereof_o at_o large_a because_o these_o point_n in_o controversy_n have_v be_v already_o and_o will_v be_v hereafter_o so_o copious_o learned_o and_o religious_o handle_v by_o other_o of_o great_a ability_n and_o far_o more_o excellent_a gift_n but_o let_v we_o come_v to_o the_o matter_n in_o hand_n the_o tentation_n of_o satan_n concern_v this_o point_n be_v of_o two_o sort_n the_o first_o tend_v to_o persuade_v we_o to_o labour_v after_o and_o to_o rest_n upon_o a_o imperfect_a and_o maim_a righteousness_n for_o our_o justification_n whereby_o we_o can_v never_o be_v justify_v in_o god_n sight_n &_o so_o in_o the_o mean_a time_n he_o cause_v we_o to_o neglect_v the_o alsufficient_a &_o most_o perfect_a righteousness_n of_o jesus_n christ_n by_o which_o alone_o we_o be_v justify_v before_o god_n and_o eternal_o save_v the_o other_o tend_v to_o make_v we_o doubt_v of_o our_o true_a justification_n that_o so_o he_o may_v either_o make_v this_o gracious_a work_n of_o god_n frustrate_v in_o we_o or_o else_o at_o least_o deprive_v our_o soul_n of_o that_o true_a consolation_n and_o peace_n of_o conscience_n which_o depend_v upon_o the_o assurance_n of_o our_o justification_n §_o sect._n 2_o for_o the_o first_o own_o how_o satan_n tempt_v we_o to_o neglect_v christ_n righteousness_n &_o to_o rest_n upon_o our_o own_o he_o will_v labour_v to_o persuade_v we_o that_o it_o be_v not_o the_o righteousness_n of_o jesus_n christ_n impute_v unto_o we_o by_o god_n and_o apprehend_v and_o apply_v unto_o we_o by_o faith_n whereby_o we_o be_v justify_v in_o god_n sight_n for_o this_o imputative_a righteousness_n be_v but_o mere_o putative_a and_o imaginacy_n but_o by_o that_o inhaerent_a righteousness_n which_o be_v in_o ourselves_o for_o christ_n will_n he_o say_v do_v not_o fulfil_v the_o law_n &_o die_v that_o this_o his_o righteousness_n &_o obedience_n shall_v become_v we_o by_o imputation_n but_o he_o die_v for_o we_o to_o the_o end_n he_o may_v merit_v for_o we_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n which_o shall_v infuse_v into_o we_o a_o inhaerent_a righteousness_n &_o he_o shed_v his_o blood_n to_o the_o end_n that_o our_o good_a work_n be_v dip_v and_o die_v therein_o may_v become_v perfect_a and_o so_o justify_v we_o in_o god_n sight_n and_o therefore_o that_o we_o be_v not_o justify_v by_o faith_n alone_o but_o by_o our_o other_o grace_n and_o virtue_n also_o and_o our_o good_a work_n proceedding_n from_o they_o neither_o by_o faith_n at_o all_o as_o it_o be_v a_o instrument_n which_o apply_v christ_n and_o his_o benefit_n unto_o we_o but_o as_o it_o be_v a_o grace_n or_o virtue_n infuse_v into_o ourselves_o against_o which_o tentation_n it_o behoove_v we_o most_o careful_o to_o arm_v ourselves_o as_o be_v most_o dangerous_a and_o pernicious_a for_o it_o rob_v god_n and_o our_o saviour_n christ_n of_o the_o whole_a glory_n of_o our_o justification_n and_o salvation_n and_o derive_v some_o yea_o the_o great_a portion_n unto_o ourselves_o as_o be_v chief_o justify_v by_o our_o own_o mean_n and_o also_o it_o deprive_v our_o soul_n of_o all_o true_a comfort_n and_o full_a assurance_n that_o we_o be_v justify_v &_o save_v by_o take_v out_o of_o our_o hand_n the_o strong_a staff_n of_o our_o salvation_n the_o perfect_a righteousness_n of_o jesus_n christ_n and_o by_o put_v into_o they_o the_o weak_a reed_n of_o our_o own_o work_n which_o will_v present_o break_v and_o fail_v we_o when_o we_o most_o rest_n upon_o it_o and_o so_o we_o shall_v unrecoverable_o fall_v into_o the_o horrible_a pit_n of_o deep_a desperation_n when_o as_o we_o be_v abandon_v of_o our_o chief_a hope_n that_o be_v when_o on_o the_o one_o side_n the_o huge_a weight_n of_o our_o grievous_a sin_n and_o on_o the_o other_o side_n the_o great_a imperfection_n of_o our_o most_o perfect_a righteousness_n and_o the_o filthy_a pollution_n of_o our_o most_o glorious_a work_n appear_v unto_o us._n and_o to_o the_o end_n that_o we_o may_v be_v the_o better_o enable_v to_o resist_v this_o dangerous_a and_o damnable_a tentation_n i_o will_v first_o show_v that_o we_o can_v be_v justify_v before_o the_o tribunal_n of_o god_n judgement_n by_o our_o inhaerent_a righteousness_n &_o good_a work_n and_o second_o that_o we_o be_v justify_v by_o faith_n alone_o as_o it_o only_o apply_v unto_o we_o christ_n jesus_n his_o righteousness_n and_o obedience_n §_o sect._n 3_o that_o we_o be_v not_o justify_v by_o our_o own_o work_n and_o righteousness_n it_o manifest_o appear_v both_o by_o plain_a testimony_n of_o holy_a scripture_n scripture_n that_o we_o be_v not_o justify_v by_o our_o work_n prove_v by_o the_o
