good_a be_v health_n and_o conservation_n of_o the_o individual_a in_o his_o be_v next_o to_o that_o and_o indeed_o in_o order_n to_o it_o be_v the_o refreshment_n and_o support_v by_o eat_v and_o drink_v wealth_n again_o be_v subservient_fw-fr and_o in_fw-la order_n to_o that_o viz._n to_o have_v a_o convenient_a store_n and_o provision_n for_o the_o supply_n of_o the_o exigency_n of_o nature_n and_o preserve_v the_o individual_a what_o be_v more_o than_o necessary_a for_o that_o be_v superfluous_a vain_a and_o unnecessary_a power_n again_o be_v only_o desirable_a to_o secure_v those_o provision_n from_o rapine_n and_o invasion_n so_o that_o in_o truth_n these_o be_v so_o far_o from_o make_v up_o a_o happiness_n that_o they_o be_v only_a provisional_n and_o in_o order_n to_o those_o good_n of_o the_o body_n which_o be_v before_o show_v incompetent_a to_o that_o end_n and_o without_o that_o respect_n they_o be_v vain_a and_o impertinent_a thing_n but_o beside_o this_o there_o be_v certain_a specifical_a defect_n that_o accompany_v these_o good_n that_o render_v they_o utter_o uncapable_a of_o make_v up_o a_o happiness_n to_o mankind_n 1_v it_o be_v impossible_a they_o can_v be_v as_o large_a as_o the_o humane_a nature_n because_o unless_o there_o be_v some_o poor_a none_o can_v be_v rich_a unless_o some_o be_v under_o there_o can_v be_v none_o in_o power_n if_o all_o be_v equal_a in_o wealth_n and_o power_n there_o can_v be_v no_o such_o thing_n as_o wealth_n or_o power_n and_o consequent_o the_o supposition_n of_o happiness_n in_o those_o who_o be_v rich_a or_o powerful_a will_v exclude_v the_o great_a part_n of_o mankind_n from_o any_o share_n in_o that_o which_o must_v make_v up_o their_o common_a happiness_n 2._o in_o the_o fruition_n of_o all_o wealth_n honour_n and_o power_n beside_o the_o common_a fate_n of_o mortality_n which_o imbitter_v their_o very_a enjoyment_n there_o be_v annex_v a_o certain_a peculiar_a infelicity_n that_o render_v they_o uncapable_a of_o make_v up_o a_o happiness_n for_o 1._o they_o be_v the_o common_a mark_n of_o covetousness_n envy_n ambition_n and_o necessity_n which_o most_o ordinary_o render_v rich_a and_o powerful_a and_o great_a man_n less_o safe_a than_o other_o and_o ordinary_o they_o stand_v totter_v dangerous_o and_o subject_a to_o fall_v 2._o there_o be_v always_o care_n and_o anxiety_n attend_v the_o possessor_n of_o great_a honour_n wealth_n or_o power_n which_o imbitter_v the_o very_a enjoyment_n and_o put_v it_o out_o of_o the_o capacity_n of_o be_v a_o happiness_n for_o it_o be_v impossible_a that_o great_a care_n and_o great_a fear_n can_v consist_v with_o true_a happiness_n and_o thus_o far_o of_o sensible_a good_n 8._o beside_o these_o sensible_a good_n there_o seem_v to_o be_v two_o sort_n of_o good_n that_o mankind_n be_v peculiar_o capable_a of_o which_o be_v not_o common_a to_o the_o beast_n viz._n first_o the_o good_a of_o esteem_n glory_n and_o reputation_n wherewith_o perchance_o the_o beast_n be_v not_o affect_v though_o some_o seem_v to_o have_v somewhat_o analogal_a to_o it_o but_o this_o can_v at_o all_o make_v up_o a_o happiness_n to_o the_o humane_a nature_n 1._o because_o it_o be_v not_o accommodate_v to_o all_o use_v and_o exigent_n laudatur_fw-la &_o alget_fw-la 2._o because_o it_o reside_v not_o in_o the_o party_n but_o in_o success_n in_o any_o one_o action_n the_o misinterpretation_n of_o the_o superior_a or_o the_o vulgar_a may_v quite_o overturn_v the_o great_a and_o perchance_o most_o deserve_a reputation_n and_o render_v a_o man_n more_o despise_v and_o contemptible_a than_o he_o be_v before_o eminent_a or_o esteem_v he_o that_o bottom_n his_o happiness_n upon_o such_o a_o unstable_a blast_n inherit_v the_o wind_n 9_o but_o yet_o there_o be_v certain_a bona_n animae_fw-la which_v be_v compatible_a to_o man_n but_o not_o to_o beast_n which_o be_v of_o two_o kind_n according_a to_o the_o two_o great_a faculty_n in_o man_n his_o understanding_n and_o will_n viz._n knowledge_n and_o moral_a virtue_n and_o although_o these_o be_v excellent_a good_n yet_o exclusive_o of_o true_a and_o sound_a religion_n they_o can_v make_v up_o that_o happiness_n which_o we_o may_v reasonable_o judge_n to_o be_v proper_a and_o specifical_a to_o the_o humane_a nature_n first_o therefore_o for_o knowledge_n there_o be_v these_o incompetence_n in_o it_o in_o reference_n to_o our_o happiness_n 1._o our_o knowledge_n be_v very_o little_a and_o narrow_a in_o respect_n of_o the_o object_n of_o it_o what_o
