may_v rational_o conclude_v that_o he_o be_v also_o reprobate_a concern_v that_o faith_n which_o christ_n the_o power_n of_o god_n be_v the_o author_n and_o object_n of_o four_o he_o say_v it_o deny_v the_o comfort_n of_o faith_n for_o all_o comfort_n that_o faith_n can_v bring_v to_o the_o soul_n must_v be_v bring_v from_o the_o promise_v of_o god_n according_a as_o they_o be_v lay_v down_o in_o the_o scripture_n etc._n etc._n answ_n here_o j.n._n absolute_o limit_n god_n without_o any_o ground_n or_o reason_n or_o warrant_v for_o so_o do_v as_o though_o god_n who_o be_v the_o fountain_n of_o i_o know_v not_o he_o have_v produce_v none_o to_o prove_v that_o nor_o indeed_o any_o of_o the_o sad_a consequence_n which_o he_o say_v will_v follow_v the_o deny_v the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o and_o be_v know_v by_o faith_n to_o remain_v though_o the_o scripture_n may_v be_v take_v away_o and_o yet_o it_o do_v not_o deny_v the_o comfort_n of_o the_o scripture_n neither_o unto_o those_o who_o have_v the_o understanding_n thereof_o five_o j._n n._n say_v it_o destroy_v the_o support_n and_o supply_n of_o grace_n to_o the_o soul_n in_o a_o time_n of_o affliction_n etc._n etc._n and_o where_n call_v themselves_o the_o fountain_n nor_o have_v the_o holy_a man_n of_o god_n so_o call_v they_o but_o they_o testify_v of_o him-who_a be_v the_o fountain_n of_o all_o good_a neither_o be_v spirit_n into_o the_o heart_n of_o his_o child_n whereby_o they_o be_v direct_v into_o his_o most_o holy_a will_n by_o the_o enlighten_v of_o their_o spirit_n by_o that_o holy_a spirit_n of_o promise_n by_o which_o they_o know_v their_o adoption_n and_o also_o by_o the_o same_o spirit_n can_v own_o god_n to_o be_v their_o father_n etc._n etc._n thus_o far_o be_v his_o own_o word_n by_o and_o christ_n after_o fellowship_n and_o acquaintance_n with_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n which_o desire_n can_v be_v satisfy_v without_o the_o knowledge_n and_o enjoyment_n of_o the_o presence_n of_o the_o lord_n and_o of_o the_o light_n of_o his_o countenance_n and_o for_o this_o cause_n many_o run_v to_o and_o fro_o and_o wander_v like_o sheep_n go_v astray_o from_o the_o true_a shepherd_n fold_v and_o be_v weary_v themselves_o upon_o the_o barren_a mountain_n in_o vain_a look_v thereunto_o for_o salvation_n and_o seek_v the_o live_n among_o the_o dead_a and_o so_o spend_v their_o labour_n for_o that_o which_o do_v not_o satisfy_v and_o in_o these_o several_a state_n and_o condition_n aforesaid_a the_o whole_a christian_a world_n lie_v who_o be_v not_o turn_v to_o the_o light_n and_o spirit_n of_o jesus_n in_o themselves_o and_o true_a rest_n and_o salvation_n can_v be_v find_v by_o they_o until_o they_o return_v to_o the_o light_n and_o power_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n in_o their_o own_o heart_n which_o be_v that_o whereby_o a_o dislike_n of_o sin_n be_v beget_v in_o they_o and_o also_o desire_v after_o life_n and_o salvation_n and_o freedom_n from_o god_n almighty_a at_o the_o first_o raise_v up_o by_o his_o power_n for_o this_o work_n aforesaid_a the_o late_a decease_a richard_n farnsworth_n be_v one_o concern_v who_o the_o chief_a occasion_n of_o this_o my_o present_a writing_n be_v that_o so_o a_o testimony_n concern_v he_o and_o of_o what_o the_o lord_n do_v by_o and_o through_o he_o may_v remain_v upon_o record_n for_o generation_n to_o know_v or_o enough_o to_o give_v satisfaction_n to_o every_o soul_n who_o breathe_v after_o the_o knowledge_n of_o acceptance_n with_o god_n for_o what_o can_v give_v more_o satisfaction_n to_o a_o man_n then_o to_o know_v the_o holy_a will_n of_o god_n by_o his_o spirit_n and_o to_o know_v his_o adoption_n and_o to_o know_v that_o god_n be_v his_o father_n certain_o there_o be_v no_o that_o to_o deny_v the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n do_v not_o leave_v man_n so_o in_o the_o dark_a as_o j._n n._n affirm_v but_o that_o they_o be_v still_o in_o a_o capacity_n to_o know_v that_o god_n will_v save_v and_o also_o to_o see_v the_o salvation_n of_o god_n which_o be_v promise_v to_o they_o that_o order_n their_o conversation_n aright_o and_o whereas_o he_o say_v that_o the_o scripture_n direct_v to_o the_o mean_n by_o which_o we_o shall_v obtain_v life_n i_o answer_v i_o shall_v easy_o acknowledge_v that_o for_o as_o i_o have_v before_o say_v they_o contain_v many_o true_a testimony_n of_o he_o who_o be_v the_o alone_a leader_n unto_o life_n and_o they_o be_v profitable_a for_o doctrine_n for_o instruction_n etc._n etc._n that_o people_n may_v be_v direct_v to_o christ_n the_o way_n which_o they_o testify_v of_o and_o that_o they_o may_v be_v turn_v from_o darkness_n to_o the_o light_n which_o discover_v the_o darkness_n and_o that_o they_o may_v come_v to_o receive_v with_o meekness_n the_o engraft_a word_n or_o the_o word_n which_o be_v graft_v in_o they_o by_o it_o to_o be_v teach_v and_o lead_v unto_o the_o possession_n of_o life_n for_o this_o be_v the_o mean_n by_o which_o life_n be_v obtain_v which_o the_o scripture_n testify_v of_o and_o direct_v unto_o and_o for_o this_o work_n we_o own_o the_o scripture_n to_o be_v profitable_a but_o this_o do_v not_o run_v parallel_n with_o the_o affirmation_n of_o j._n n._n in_o the_o 24_o page_n of_o his_o book_n where_o he_o affirm_v that_o life_n be_v in_o the_o scripture_n for_o its_o one_o thing_n to_o say_v that_o there_o be_v life_n therein_o and_o another_o thing_n to_o say_v they_o direct_v to_o the_o mean_n by_o which_o life_n be_v obtain_v if_o john_n newman_n assert_v not_o other_o thing_n then_o the_o latter_a there_o have_v be_v no_o controversy_n about_o this_o point_n for_o so_o far_o we_o own_o the_o scripture_n but_o his_o confusion_n show_v what_o his_o spirit_n be_v oft-tmes_a contradict_v and_o oppose_v himself_o as_o be_v usual_a with_o those_o that_o oppose_v the_o unchangeable_a truth_n but_o i_o perceive_v a_o objection_n may_v arise_v in_o the_o ignorant_a concern_v this_o thing_n that_o if_o the_o word_n which_o be_v able_a to_o save_v be_v graft_v in_o people_n and_o be_v nigh_o unto_o all_o even_o in_o the_o heart_n and_o mouth_n why_o then_o be_v not_o all_o save_v or_o why_o do_v not_o all_o see_v the_o salvation_n of_o god_n or_o why_o do_v the_o apostle_n exhort_v they_o to_o receive_v it_o with_o meekness_n if_o it_o be_v in_o they_o already_o i_o answer_v though_o the_o word_n or_o spirit_n which_o be_v one_o be_v in_o they_o yet_o they_o be_v disobedient_a thereunto_o do_v not_o receive_v it_o or_o have_v not_o receive_v it_o but_o have_v always_o resist_v it_o as_o the_o apostle_n tell_v they_o act_v 7.51_o and_o so_o be_v like_a unto_o those_o that_o job_n speak_v of_o say_v they_o be_v of_o they_o that_o rebel_n against_o the_o light_n who_o know_v not_o the_o way_n of_o it_o etc._n etc._n job_n 24.13_o so_o that_o although_o the_o word_n or_o light_n or_o spirit_n be_v in_o a_o people_n and_o they_o rebel_v against_o it_o or_o resist_v the_o reproof_n and_o instruction_n thereof_o or_o do_v despite_n to_o the_o strive_n thereof_o how_o can_v such_o be_v say_v to_o have_v receive_v it_o for_o they_o only_o receive_v the_o word_n and_o the_o spirit_n that_o receive_v the_o reproof_n and_o instruction_n thereof_o and_o in_o they_o it_o be_v know_v to_o be_v a_o spirit_n or_o prince_n of_o peace_n and_o a_o word_n of_o life_n and_o consolation_n and_o such_o know_v their_o beloved_n to_o lie_v all_o might_n betwixt_o their_o breast_n but_o although_o he_o be_v nigh_o even_o in_o the_o heart_n of_o many_o they_o can_v be_v say_v to_o receive_v he_o while_o they_o rebel_v against_o he_o and_o therefore_o they_o be_v not_o save_v but_o condemn_v by_o he_o for_o this_o be_v the_o condemnation_n that_o light_n be_v come_v and_o man_n love_v darkness_n rather_o than_o light_n joh._n 3.19_o and_o though_o he_o light_v every_o man_n that_o come_v into_o the_o world_n yet_o it_o that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n and_o show_v forth_o the_o work_n of_o the_o law_n write_v in_o their_o heart_n but_o also_o in_o the_o capacity_n that_o the_o father_n of_o old_a be_v who_o do_v not_o only_o know_v that_o there_o be_v a_o god_n but_o know_v the_o only_a true_a god_n and_o be_v the_o acceptable_a worshipper_n of_o he_o before_o scripture_n be_v write_v and_o these_o thing_n i_o speak_v not_o in_o the_o least_o to_o undervalue_n the_o scripture_n or_o out_o of_o a_o slight_a esteem_n of_o they_o for_o they_o be_v very_o profitable_a for_o instruction_n etc._n etc._n and_o so_o i_o own_v they_o and_o have_v great_a esteem_n of_o they_o yet_o if_o people_n have_v no_o more_o knowledge_n than_o what_o they_o carnal_o receive_v therefrom_o i_o may_v say_v as_o the_o apostle_n say_v that_o what_o they_o know_v they_o know_v natural_o as_o bruit_v beast_n and_o indeed_o know_v nothing_o as_o they_o ought_v to_o know_v and_o those_o that_o he_o thus_o speak_v to_o deny_v of_o the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o word_n while_o the_o word_n in_o the_o heart_n which_o the_o scripture_n testify_v of_o be_v own_v people_n be_v not_o leave_v to_o walk_v by_o imagination_n but_o by_o the_o word_n which_o be_v a_o light_n to_o the_o foot_n of_o those_o who_o take_v heed_n unto_o their_o way_n according_a to_o the_o leading_n of_o it_o and_o the_o help_n with_o and_o conquer_v all_o but_o at_o last_o that_o his_o armour_n and_o weapon_n may_v be_v prove_v to_o be_v sufficient_a to_o encounter_v with_o the_o enemy_n of_o truth_n in_o all_o kind_n of_o appearance_n and_o transformation_n it_o be_v his_o lot_n with_o i_o and_o divers_a other_o of_o the_o servant_n of_o the_o lord_n to_o be_v engage_v against_o the_o enemy_n of_o truth_n who_o have_v transform_v himself_o into_o the_o likeness_n of_o a_o angel_n of_o light_n and_o under_o a_o seem_a pretence_n of_o appear_v on_o the_o behalf_n of_o god_n and_o his_o cause_n etc._n etc._n and_o against_o formality_n and_o tradition_n begin_v strong_o to_o oppose_v the_o truth_n of_o god_n and_o the_o ministry_n thereof_o in_o and_o through_o his_o servant_n and_o messenger_n who_o have_v approve_v themselves_o as_o the_o minister_n of_o god_n and_o as_o his_o ambassador_n and_o to_o cry_v against_o our_o assembly_n and_o manner_n of_o worship_n and_o our_o exercise_n therein_o as_o only_o formal_a in_o which_o we_o have_v always_o find_v the_o glorious_a presence_n power_n and_o majesty_n of_o the_o lord_n among_o we_o refresh_v comfort_v and_o strengthen_v of_o we_o even_o i_o answer_v here_o j._n n._n have_v wrong_v the_o prophet_n word_n for_o he_o do_v not_o say_v that_o he_o have_v swear_v to_o keep_v the_o word_n but_o he_o have_v swear_v to_o keep_v his_o righteous_a judgement_n as_o if_o he_o shall_v have_v say_v he_o will_v observe_v the_o judgement_n of_o the_o lord_n to_o walk_v in_o the_o path_n thereof_o or_o that_o he_o will_v walk_v according_a to_o the_o spirit_n of_o judgement_n yet_o notwithstanding_o this_o it_o be_v but_o the_o unreasonableness_n of_o j.n._n to_o conclude_v that_o david_n nor_o any_o man_n do_v never_o keep_v christ_n for_o they_o that_o keep_v in_o subjection_n to_o the_o spirit_n of_o christ_n and_o dwell_v under_o his_o government_n may_v be_v proper_o say_v to_o keep_v the_o word_n which_o be_v christ_n and_o the_o scripture_n or_o if_o i_o shall_v acknowledge_v the_o gospel_n to_o be_v the_o word_n yet_o that_o do_v not_o prove_v the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o word_n for_o the_o gospel_n be_v the_o power_n of_o god_n as_o the_o apostle_n say_v rom._n 1.16_o and_o so_o be_v not_o the_o scripture_n and_o the_o gospel_n be_v everlasting_a but_o the_o scripture_n be_v not_o so_o but_o j.n._n will_v make_v the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o word_n the_o gospel_n the_o ministry_n and_o all_o and_o jumble_v all_o together_o and_o then_o say_v the_o apostle_n call_v it_o so_o when_o the_o apostle_n say_v no_o such_o thing_n but_o speak_v of_o his_o ministry_n and_o of_o the_o gospel_n which_o be_v the_o power_n of_o god_n and_o of_o the_o word_n which_o endure_v forever_o which_o by_o the_o etc._n for_o the_o scripture_n here_o speak_v of_o and_o which_o christ_n speak_v of_o when_o he_o say_v you_o search_v the_o scripture_n etc._n etc._n can_v be_v otherwise_o understand_v then_o the_o scripture_n of_o the_o old_a testament_n because_o the_o other_o be_v not_o then_o write_v and_o those_o scripture_n of_o the_o prophet_n be_v they_o that_o testify_v of_o christ_n who_o be_v the_o great_a salvation_n of_o god_n and_o god_n say_v by_o the_o prophet_n he_o have_v give_v he_o a_o covenant_n of_o light_a to_o lighten_v the_o gentile_n to_o be_v for_o salvation_n to_o the_o end_n dead_a letter_n for_o the_o live_a word_n and_o the_o scripture_n for_o the_o way_n and_o so_o will_v set_v they_o in_o the_o stead_n of_o the_o thing_n which_o they_o do_v but_o testify_v of_o and_o thereby_o keep_v people_n always_o learning_n and_o never_o able_a to_o come_v to_o the_o knowledge_n of_o the_o truth_n which_o sanctifi_v and_o set_v free_a 2_o tim._n 3.7_o joh._n 8.32_o joh._n 17.17_o then_o j._n n._n like_o a_o man_n fight_v with_o the_o wind_n or_o like_o one_o that_o set_v up_o a_o poppit_n of_o his_o own_o and_o suppose_v it_o to_o be_v another_o and_o then_o lie_v fight_v with_o it_o when_o he_o have_v do_v rumble_v over_o a_o great_a deal_n of_o stuff_n like_o one_o that_o want_v work_n contend_v against_o a_o three_o covenant_n or_o a_o three_o testament_n way_n argue_v in_o the_o 26_o page_n of_o his_o book_n that_o if_o a_o three_o covenant_n or_o a_o three_o testament_n way_n have_v not_o be_v any_o where_o promise_v of_o god_n than_o the_o second_o be_v still_o in_o force_n for_o all_o man_n to_o walk_v by_o and_o none_o other_o and_o for_o my_o part_n i_o know_v none_o that_o assert_v a_o three_o covenant_n or_o a_o three_o testament_n way_n nor_o yet_o any_o that_o deny_v the_o second_o to_o be_v in_o force_n so_o that_o j.n._n have_v busy_v himself_o to_o no_o purpose_n as_o i_o say_v before_o like_o one_o beat_v of_o the_o air_n but_o i_o do_v not_o intend_v so_o to_o busy_v myself_o to_o contend_v against_o he_o about_o thing_n in_o which_o i_o be_o not_o concern_v for_o as_o i_o say_v i_o own_v no_o other_o covenant_n nor_o testament_n way_n but_o the_o second_o covenant_n which_o god_n promise_v by_o the_o mouth_n of_o his_o prophet_n say_v jer._n 31.33_o this_o shall_v be_v the_o covenant_n that_o i_o will_v make_v etc._n etc._n i_o will_v put_v my_o law_n in_o their_o inward_a part_n and_o write_v it_o in_o their_o heart_n and_o will_v be_v their_o god_n and_o they_o shall_v be_v my_o people_n and_o they_o shall_v no_o more_o teach_v every_o man_n his_o neighbour_n say_v know_v the_o lord_n for_o they_o shall_v all_o know_v i_o etc._n etc._n and_o in_o isa_n 59.21_o he_o say_v this_o be_v my_o assert_v it_o therefore_o i_o shall_v not_o trouble_v myself_o to_o contend_v about_o it_o but_o shall_v leave_v that_o part_n of_o his_o book_n for_o those_o who_o it_o concern_v if_o there_o be_v any_o though_o i_o can_v well_v but_o observe_v that_o he_o have_v offer_v many_o foolish_a fallacious_a and_o ignorant_a argument_n pretend_v thereby_o to_o prove_v the_o new_a testament_n way_n still_o in_o force_n and_o to_o be_v so_o to_o the_o end_n which_o i_o have_v already_o grant_v and_o shall_v be_v ready_a so_o to_o do_v at_o all_o time_n but_o still_o he_o mistake_v the_o matter_n by_o put_v the_o dead_a letter_n in_o the_o place_n of_o the_o quicken_a spirit_n and_o direct_v people_n to_o the_o letter_n for_o life_n when_o it_o be_v only_o the_o spirit_n that_o give_v life_n as_o before_o be_v signify_v and_o so_o he_o stumble_v at_o the_o stumbling-stone_n a_o rock_n which_o many_o have_v run_v against_o and_o have_v be_v split_v and_o so_o after_o he_o have_v rumble_v over_o divers_a sylogistical_a argument_n which_o serve_v to_o signify_v that_o he_o love_v to_o hear_v himself_o talk_v logic_n thereby_o still_o labour_v to_o prove_v that_o not_o three_o covenant_n or_o three_o testament_n way_n be_v to_o be_v expect_v for_o which_o cause_n the_o second_o be_v to_o stand_v in_o force_n unto_o the_o end_n etc._n etc._n he_o then_o in_o page_n 42._o of_o his_o book_n come_v to_o lay_v down_o some_o sad_a consequence_n which_o will_v as_o he_o say_v follow_v by_o deny_v the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o by_o make_v they_o insufficient_a as_o a_o rule_n in_o order_n to_o man_n salvation_n and_o first_o say_v he_o it_o take_v away_o the_o general_a ground_n of_o faith_n from_o all_o man_n two_o it_o deny_v the_o ground_n of_o faith_n for_o the_o remission_n of_o sin_n three_o it_o make_v void_a the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n in_o the_o precious_a promise_n of_o god_n for_o what_o have_v faith_n to_o exercise_v itself_o in_o but_o only_o the_o promise_n of_o god_n in_o the_o scripture_n four_o it_o deni_v the_o comfort_n of_o faith_n for_o all_o the_o comfort_n that_o faith_n can_v bring_v to_o the_o soul_n must_v be_v bring_v from_o the_o precious_a promise_n of_o god_n in_o the_o scripture_n 5th_o it_o destroy_v the_o support_n and_o supply_n of_o grace_n to_o the_o soul_n in_o a_o time_n of_o affliction_n and_o to_o deny_v the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n be_v to_o deny_v the_o fountain_n and_o wellspring_n of_o comfort_n to_o the_o soul_n 6thly_a it_o deni_v the_o knowledge_n of_o acceptance_n with_o god_n 7thly_a if_o the_o scripture_n be_v deny_v to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o thereby_o make_v insufficient_a as_o a_o rule_n etc._n
etc._n then_o all_o man_n be_v leave_v in_o the_o dark_a for_o no_o man_n be_v able_a to_o know_v that_o god_n will_v save_v any_o but_o by_o his_o word_n which_o be_v contain_v in_o the_o scripture_n for_o this_o be_v the_o word_n of_o salvation_n or_o that_o which_o direct_v to_o the_o mean_n by_o which_o we_o shall_v obtain_v life_n eight_o without_o this_o mean_v scripture_n we_o know_v not_o that_o there_o be_v any_o god_n or_o christ_n or_o salvation_n by_o god_n in_o christ_n etc._n etc._n last_o it_o leave_v man_n to_o walk_v by_o fancy_n or_o imagination_n etc._n etc._n answ_n to_o all_o which_o i_o shall_v answer_v that_o for_o as_o much_o as_o we_o the_o people_n of_o god_n call_v quaker_n do_v not_o assert_v or_o own_v a_o three_o testament_n way_n which_o j.n._n seem_v to_o fight_v against_o and_o oppose_v it_o will_v be_v as_o superfluous_a for_o i_o to_o reply_v to_o his_o sylogism_n as_o it_o have_v be_v in_o he_o to_o offer_v they_o and_o i_o shall_v therein_o but_o answer_v a_o fool_n according_a to_o his_o folly_n and_o so_o become_v like_o unto_o he_o which_o i_o be_o no_o way_n incline_v to_o do_v but_o shall_v proceed_v to_o examine_v whether_o or_o no_o those_o dreadful_a consequence_n assert_v by_o j._n n._n will_v follow_v the_o deny_v of_o the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n and_o a_o perfect_a rule_n for_o all_o man_n to_o walk_v by_o and_o none_o other_o first_o how_o do_v it_o take_v away_o the_o general_a ground_n of_o faith_n from_o all_o man_n to_o deny_v the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o word_n and_o rule_n etc._n etc._n see_v the_o word_n be_v still_o own_a to_o be_v in_o be_v and_o to_o be_v hear_v which_o be_v the_o ground_n and_o author_n of_o the_o faith_n of_o abraham_n and_o the_o holy_a man_n of_o god_n who_o take_v away_o the_o ground_n of_o that_o faith_n which_o by_o the_o spirit_n or_o word_n be_v once_o deliver_v to_o the_o saint_n for_o the_o apostle_n in_o 1_o cor._n 12._o â—_o declare_v the_o ground_n of_o the_o faith_n which_o the_o church_n have_v receive_v and_o which_o he_o labour_v in_o the_o word_n which_o wrought_v mighty_o in_o he_o for_o the_o build_n of_o they_o up_o in_o to_o be_v the_o spirit_n when_o he_o speak_v of_o the_o diversity_n of_o gift_n which_o they_o have_v receive_v he_o say_v to_o another_o be_v give_v faith_n by_o the_o same_o spirit_n and_o this_o do_v day_n as_o yesterday_o and_o the_o same_o forever_o a_o foundation_n of_o faith_n that_o stand_v sure_a and_o be_v not_o a_o far_o off_o from_o every_o one_o but_o be_v nigh_o even_o the_o word_n nigh_o thou_o in_o thy_o heart_n and_o in_o thy_o mouth_n and_o this_o be_v the_o word_n of_o faith_n which_o the_o apostle_n preach_v and_o which_o we_o preach_v by_o the_o hear_n of_o which_o faith_n come_v so_o that_o deny_v the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o word_n be_v not_o to_o deny_v the_o ground_n and_o foundation_n of_o true_a faith_n neither_o be_v it_o in_o the_o least_o to_o undervalue_n the_o holy_a scripture_n which_o so_o frequent_o testify_v of_o the_o ground_n and_o foundation_n and_o author_n of_o the_o true_a faith_n second_o and_o as_o for_o his_o affirm_v that_o to_o deny_v the_o scripture_n to_o be_v the_o word_n be_v to_o deny_v the_o ground_n of_o faith_n for_o the_o remission_n of_o sin_n answ_n i_o answer_v no_o if_o the_o word_n be_v the_o ground_n as_o most_o true_a it_o be_v the_o ground_n be_v not_o deny_v by_o deny_v scripture_n to_o be_v the_o word_n because_o the_o scripture_n which_o testify_v of_o the_o word_n be_v before_o prove_v not_o to_o because_o the_o scripture_n be_v not_o the_o power_n of_o god_n in_o which_o the_o true_a faith_n stand_v neither_o do_v it_o follow_v as_o j._n n._n assert_v that_o faith_n must_v be_v exercise_v in_o scripture_n or_o else_o upon_o fancy_n and_o imagination_n because_o it_o may_v be_v exercise_v in_o the_o power_n of_o god_n as_o in_o the_o true_a ground_n thereof_o which_o be_v neither_o scripture_n and_o argue_v that_o they_o can_v be_v separate_v and_o the_o reason_n he_o give_v be_v because_o the_o scripture_n be_v the_o giving_n forth_o of_o the_o spirit_n and_o yet_o notwithstanding_o will_v say_v christ_n have_v a_o distinct_a be_v from_o his_o spirit_n which_o be_v of_o his_o giving_n forth_o and_o thus_o as_o fancy_n lead_v he_o he_o affirm_v thing_n as_o in_o page_n 43._o he_o say_v if_o scripture_n be_v deny_v to_o be_v the_o word_n of_o god_n it_o make_v void_a the_o exercise_n of_o faith_n for_o faith_n must_v be_v exercise_v in_o the_o scripture_n or_o else_o upon_o fancy_n and_o imagination_n and_o in_o page_n 73._o he_o say_v if_o there_o be_v no_o personal_a be_v of_o christ_n then_o there_o be_v no_o christ_n to_o exercise_v faith_n in_o so_o by_o this_o kind_n of_o argument_n of_o j._n n._n if_o faith_n be_v exercise_v in_o a_o personal_a be_v of_o christ_n it_o be_v exercise_v upon_o fancy_n and_o imagination_n which_o be_v very_o true_a he_o can_v tell_v what_o the_o true_a faith_n be_v nor_o what_o it_o be_v exercise_v in_o sometime_o scripture_n be_v the_o only_a thing_n and_o another_o while_o a_o personal_a be_v of_o christ_n and_o what_o will_v it_o be_v next_o but_o even_o what_o his_o fancy_n and_o imagination_n bring_v forth_o which_o he_o appear_v full_a of_o like_o one_o that_o know_v not_o christ_n the_o power_n of_o god_n manifest_v in_o he_o who_o be_v the_o author_n of_o true_a faith_n or_o the_o begetter_n thereof_o and_o be_v also_o the_o object_n thereof_o in_o which_o it_o be_v exercise_v and_o in_o who_o it_o stand_v who_o all_o must_v hear_v that_o receive_v the_o true_a faith_n which_o be_v the_o victory_n that_o overcome_v the_o world_n and_o which_o give_v access_n unto_o god_n in_o which_o faith_n there_o be_v peace_n and_o joy_v unspeakable_a and_o full_a of_o glory_n again_o in_o page_n 87._o mention_v that_o scripture_n which_o seem_v as_o a_o block_n in_o his_o way_n which_o i_o be_v bring_v forth_o into_o a_o gospel_n purity_n be_v it_o not_o by_o the_o spirit_n be_v operation_n that_o be_v in_o they_o which_o they_o receive_v by_o the_o hear_n of_o faith_n gal._n 3.2_o which_o j._n n._n acknowledge_v to_o be_v of_o the_o same_o be_v of_o the_o father_n and_o the_o son_n if_o so_o then_o be_v not_o christ_n according_a to_o measure_n who_o fill_v all_o thing_n real_o enlarge_v on_o this_o account_n and_o indeed_o if_o never_o a_o word_n have_v be_v say_v the_o very_a fruit_n bring_v forth_o by_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n in_o the_o view_n of_o all_o nation_n be_v enough_o to_o foreware_v they_o of_o adhere_v to_o she_o for_o can_v a_o man_n touch_v pitch_n and_o not_o be_v defile_v church_n a_o hint_n towards_o the_o discovery_n of_o the_o true_a church_n but_o for_o all_o that_o have_v be_v say_v it_o may_v be_v some_o will_v say_v that_o grand_a question_n propound_v by_o a._n s._n in_o the_o second_o chapter_n of_o his_o book_n remain_v yet_o unanswered_a viz_o which_o be_v the_o true_a church_n etc._n etc._n first_o to_o which_o i_o answer_v that_o be_v the_o true_a church_n and_o no_o other_o who_o fruit_n make_v manifest_a that_o they_o be_v govern_v by_o the_o invisible_a head_n christ_n and_o that_o continue_v in_o the_o doctrine_n of_o christ_n and_o his_o apostle_n and_o that_o be_v find_v in_o the_o same_o order_n or_o discipline_n in_o their_o assembly_n that_o the_o true_a church_n be_v in_o the_o primitive_a time_n and_o that_o have_v the_o same_o way_n of_o ordain_v minister_n that_o the_o true_a church_n have_v and_o that_o live_v sober_o righteous_o and_o godly_a in_o this_o present_a world_n as_o the_o true_a church_n do_v but_o the_o people_n call_v quaeker_n be_v such_o as_o hereafter_o i_o shall_v prove_v therefore_o the_o people_n call_v quaker_n be_v the_o true_a church_n second_o it_o be_v manifest_a by_o the_o fruit_n of_o the_o people_n call_v quaker_n that_o they_o be_v govern_v by_o the_o invisible_a head_n christ_n for_o christ_n command_v his_o follower_n not_o to_o swear_v at_o all_o which_o command_v the_o aforesaid_a people_n observe_v and_o keep_v as_o this_o nation_n of_o england_n full_a well_o know_v again_o christ_n come_v not_o to_o destroy_v man_n life_n but_o to_o save_v they_o and_o command_v his_o follower_n to_o love_v their_o enemy_n and_o it_o be_v manifest_a that_o the_o people_n call_v quaker_n have_v the_o mind_n of_o christ_n because_o they_o seek_v not_o the_o destruction_n of_o any_o but_o the_o preservation_n and_o good_a of_o all_o and_o christendom_n or_o by_o all_o babylon_n merchant_n in_o every_o part_n of_o her_o territory_n who_o ignorant_o produce_v many_o good_a word_n to_o oppose_v this_o doctrine_n 1._o as_o first_o they_o urge_v solomon_n word_n viz_o there_o be_v not_o a_o just_a man_n upon_o the_o earth_n that_o do_v good_a and_o sin_v not_o therefore_o say_v they_o people_n can_v be_v perfect_a but_o alas_o they_o do_v not_o discern_v the_o sign_n of_o the_o time_n neither_o do_v they_o consider_v the_o time_n and_o season_n when_o these_o word_n be_v speak_v for_o at_o that_o time_n all_o be_v go_v out_o of_o
