god_n elect_v love_n but_o second_o temptation_n the_o second_o temptation_n concern_v our_o election_n may_v be_v this_o a_o poor_a soul_n may_v be_v thus_o tempt_v it_o be_v true_a there_o may_v be_v the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n love_n and_o many_o of_o the_o saint_n have_v attain_v to_o this_o knowledge_n but_o as_o for_o i_o i_o have_v no_o certainty_n i_o have_v strive_v and_o i_o have_v wait_v upon_o god_n and_o seek_v for_o assurance_n but_o i_o have_v not_o attain_v it_o and_o therefore_o i_o be_o ready_a to_o conclude_v sure_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o love_v i_o other_o seek_v and_o they_o have_v attain_v and_o have_v assurance_n i_o have_v seek_v and_o i_o can_v meet_v with_o assurance_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o therefore_o certain_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o love_v i_o i_o answer_v to_o this_o temptation_n know_v that_o thou_o can_v not_o conclude_v that_o god_n have_v not_o call_v thou_o effectual_o because_o thou_o have_v not_o assurance_n and_o if_o thou_o can_v not_o conclude_v that_o god_n have_v not_o call_v thou_o effectual_o because_o thou_o have_v not_o assurance_n much_o less_o can_v thou_o conclude_v that_o god_n have_v not_o choose_v thou_o from_o eternity_n because_o thou_o have_v not_o assurance_n but_o second_o in_o answer_n to_o this_o temptation_n have_v not_o the_o lord_n give_v thou_o a_o heart_n to_o close_v with_o christ_n as_o hold_v forth_o in_o the_o gospel_n to_o poor_a lose_a sinner_n have_v not_o god_n make_v thou_o willing_a to_o accept_v of_o christ_n have_v not_o the_o lord_n in_o some_o measure_n and_o this_o faith_n be_v no_o other_o but_o the_o faith_n of_o god_n elect_v the_o fruit_n of_o god_n elect_v love_n it_o spring_v from_o that_o eternal_a love_n which_o choose_v his_o people_n unto_o salvation_n through_o faith_n and_o therefore_o though_o there_o be_v not_o the_o comfort_n of_o faith_n assurance_n be_v the_o comfort_n of_o faith_n the_o flower_n that_o grow_v upon_o the_o fruit_n of_o faith_n yet_o if_o there_o be_v that_o which_o give_v the_o be_v of_o faith_n thou_o may_v not_o conclude_v that_o the_o lord_n have_v not_o love_v thou_o because_o thou_o have_v not_o assurance_n three_o in_o answer_n to_o this_o temptation_n thou_o say_v thou_o have_v no_o assurance_n of_o god_n elect_v love_n and_o therefore_o thou_o conclude_v that_o god_n do_v not_o love_v thou_o as_o thou_o have_v no_o assurance_n that_o god_n have_v choose_v thou_o so_o thou_o have_v no_o knowledge_n of_o the_o contrary_a and_o may_v not_o conclude_v the_o contrary_a that_o god_n may_v give_v a_o extraordinary_a sign_n yea_o the_o lord_n may_v and_o have_v prevent_v his_o people_n sometime_o with_o a_o extraordinary_a sign_n to_o prevent_v their_o unbelief_n when_o they_o have_v not_o ask_v a_o sign_n you_o have_v hear_v of_o that_o woman_n that_o sometime_o live_v in_o cambridge_n that_o be_v many_o year_n in_o a_o tempt_a condition_n and_o be_v sore_o afflict_v one_o day_n she_o take_v up_o a_o glass_n in_o her_o hand_n and_o cast_v it_o against_o the_o ground_n with_o this_o expression_n i_o be_o as_o sure_o damn_v as_o this_o glass_n be_v break_v and_o it_o please_v god_n so_o to_o order_v it_o that_o the_o glass_n be_v not_o break_v which_o be_v to_o the_o conviction_n of_o her_o unbelief_n i_o say_v the_o lord_n may_v give_v a_o sign_n yea_o when_o use_v diligence_n to_o hinder_v you_o in_o this_o work_n the_o devil_n great_a design_n be_v to_o keep_v you_o in_o the_o dark_a to_o keep_v you_o in_o a_o puzzle_v and_o perplex_v condition_n to_o find_v some_o flaw_n or_o other_o in_o your_o evidence_n to_o cast_v some_o blot_n upon_o they_o that_o you_o shall_v not_o be_v able_a to_o read_v they_o doubtless_o you_o will_v put_v god_n to_o it_o to_o leave_v you_o to_o be_v try_v in_o this_o at_o one_o time_n or_o other_o god_n for_o the_o most_o part_n leave_v his_o people_n to_o be_v tempt_v concern_v their_o election_n and_o therefore_o you_o have_v need_n give_v diligence_n three_o sure_a let_v i_o say_v that_o your_o comfort_n do_v depend_v upon_o make_v your_o election_n sure_a all_o your_o comfort_n in_o this_o usefulness_n your_o fruitfulness_n your_o serviceableness_n in_o your_o generation_n do_v depend_v upon_o your_o knowledge_n of_o the_o love_n of_o god_n it_o be_v that_o which_o will_v make_v a_o christian_a useful_a &_o serviceable_a when_o as_o his_o election_n be_v make_v sure_a when_o he_o come_v to_o be_v establish_v in_o the_o knowledge_n of_o god_n election_n put_v on_o therefore_o as_o the_o elect_a of_o god_n holy_a and_o belove_v bowel_n of_o mercy_n kindness_n humbleness_n of_o mind_n meekness_n long_o suffer_v col._n 3._o 12._o your_o holiness_n do_v depend_v upon_o it_o and_o your_o usefulness_n in_o your_o generation_n and_o true_o till_o that_o be_v put_v out_o of_o question_n to_o a_o soul_n till_o the_o lord_n give_v some_o degree_n of_o satisfaction_n to_o a_o soul_n concern_v his_o love_n the_o soul_n be_v whole_o take_v up_o always_o take_v up_o about_o that_o which_o concern_v itself_o o_o lord_n do_v thou_o love_v i_o that_o be_v the_o great_a question_n and_o well_o it_o may_v but_o when_o god_n come_v to_o give_v some_o satisfaction_n o_o then_o the_o soul_n have_v a_o great_a deal_n of_o freedom_n to_o mind_v the_o thing_n of_o christ_n to_o put_v up_o many_o a_o petition_n for_o other_o and_o many_o a_o request_n for_o christ_n and_o his_o kingdom_n and_o the_o interest_n of_o christ_n than_o his_o thought_n they_o run_v that_o way_n so_o that_o if_o you_o desire_v to_o be_v useful_a and_o serviceable_a in_o your_o generation_n it_o do_v engage_v you_o to_o look_v after_o this_o to_o give_v all_o diligence_n to_o make_v your_o election_n sure_a quest_n but_o you_o will_v say_v how_o shall_v we_o do_v that_o o_o there_o be_v nothing_o in_o the_o world_n that_o i_o will_v soon_o do_v than_o that_o but_o i_o know_v not_o how_o to_o make_v my_o election_n sure_a i_o answer_v it_o be_v the_o work_n of_o god_n it_o be_v the_o work_n of_o grace_n to_o make_v it_o out_o to_o you_o it_o be_v the_o work_n of_o free_a grace_n to_o give_v a_o soul_n assurance_n of_o that_o free_a and_o everlasting_a love_n but_o be_v find_v wait_v upon_o god_n in_o this_o way_n first_o sure_a look_v up_o to_o the_o lord_n to_o clear_v up_o unto_o you_o the_o mystery_n of_o the_o gospel_n if_o you_o desire_v to_o make_v your_o election_n look_v up_o to_o the_o lord_n to_o clear_v up_o to_o your_o soul_n the_o great_a mystery_n of_o christ_n that_o thou_o may_v know_v the_o lord_n jesus_n as_o he_o be_v the_o gift_n of_o the_o father_n the_o gift_n of_o love_n the_o gift_n of_o free_a grace_n o_o that_o the_o lord_n will_v clear_v up_o to_o thou_o the_o great_a end_n of_o his_o give_v that_o gift_n of_o christ_n wherefore_o be_v it_o that_o god_n send_v his_o son_n out_o of_o his_o bosom_n wherefore_o be_v it_o that_o the_o lord_n to_o draw_v thy_o heart_n to_o rest_v upon_o jesus_n christ_n as_o he_o be_v hold_v forth_o in_o the_o gospel_n see_v that_o there_o be_v a_o necessity_n that_o god_n the_o father_n he_o go_v to_o christ_n in_o his_o own_o strength_n and_o the_o faith_n be_v of_o his_o own_o work_n and_o it_o be_v such_o a_o faith_n as_o christ_n will_v not_o own_o no_o when_o god_n deal_v with_o a_o soul_n in_o a_o save_a way_n he_o discover_v to_o it_o that_o it_o be_v no_o more_o able_a to_o believe_v in_o christ_n than_o it_o can_v obey_v the_o whole_a law_n and_o that_o there_o be_v a_o necessity_n that_o he_o shall_v be_v draw_v of_o god_n and_o in_o his_o spirit_n he_o breathe_v after_o god_n and_o say_v lord_n draw_v i_o for_o if_o thou_o do_v not_o draw_v i_o i_o shall_v never_o come_v to_o christ_n see_v a_o necessity_n of_o be_v draw_v to_o christ_n and_o when_o thou_o be_v draw_v give_v up_o thyself_o to_o those_o breathe_n and_o work_n of_o the_o spirit_n of_o god_n
