congregation 22 for the ruler 27 for any of the people ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 Speak unto the children of Israel saying If a soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done and shall do against any of them 3 If the priest that is anointed do sin according to the sin of the people then let him bring for his sin which he hath sinned a young bullock without blemish unto the LORD for a sin-offering 4 And he shall bring the bullock unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD and shall lay his hand upon the bullocks head and kill the bullock before the LORD 5 And the priest that is anointed shall take of the bullocks bloud and bring it to the tabernacle of the congregation 6 And the priest shall dip his finger in the bloud and sprinkle of the bloud seven times before the LORD before the vail of the sanctuary 7 And the priest shall put some of the bloud upon the horns of the altar of sweet incense before the LORD which is in the tabernacle of the congregation and shall pour * Chap. ◠◠all the bloud of the bullock at the bottom of the altar of the burnt-offering which is at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation 8 And he shall take off from it all the fat of the bullock for the sin-offering the fat that covereth the inwards and all the fat that is upon the inwards 9 And the two kidneys the fat that is upon them which is by the flanks and the caul above the liver with the kidneys it shall he take away 10 As it was taken off from the bullock of the sacrifice of peace-offerings and the priest shall burn them upon the altar of the burnt-offering 11 * Exod. 29.14 Num. 19.5 And the skin of the bullock and all his flesh with his head and with his have sinned against it is known then the congregation shall offer a young bullock for the sin and bring him before the tabernacle of the congregation 15 And the elders of the congregation shall lay their hands upon the head of the bullock before the LORD and the bullock shall be killed before the LORD 16 And the priest that is anointed shall bring of the bullocks bloud to the tabernacle of the congregation 17 And the priest shall dip his finger in some of the bloud and sprinkle it seven times before the LORD even before the vail 18 And he shall put some of the bloud upon the horns of the altar which is before the LORD that is in the tabernacle of the congregation and shall pour out all the bloud at the bottom of the altar of the burnt-offering which is at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation 19 And he shall take all his fat from him and burn it upon the altar 20 And he shall do with the bullock as he did with the bullock for a sin-offering so shall he do with this and the priest shall make an atonement for them and it shall be forgiven them 21 And he shall carry forth the bullock without the camp and burn him as he burned the first bullock it is a sin-offering for the sin wherein he hath sinned come to his knowledge he shall bring his offering a kid of the goats a male without blemish 24 And he shall lay his hand upon the head of the goat and kill it in the place where they kill the burnt offering before the LORD it is a sin-offering 25 And the priest shall take of the bloud of the sin-offering with his finger and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt-offering and shall pour out his bloud at the bottom of the altar of burnt-offering 26 And he shall burn all his fat upon the altar as the fat of the sacrifice of peace-offerings and the priest shall lay his hand upon the head of the sin-offering and slay it for a sin-offering in the place where they kill the burnt-offering 34 And the priest shall take of the bloud of the sin-offering with his finger and put it upon the horns of the altar of burnt-offering and shall pour out all the bloud thereof at the bottom of the altar 35 And he shall take away all the fat thereof as the fat of the lamb is taken away from the sacrifice of the peace-offerings and the priest shall burn them upon the altar according to the offerings made by fire unto the LORD and the priest shall make an atonement for his sin that he hath committed and it shall be forgiven him CHAP. V. 1 He that sinneth in concealing his knowledge 2 in touching an
day and the prophet also shall fall with thee in the night and I will †Heb. cut â—ff deâ—troy thy mother 6 ¶ My people are †Heb. cut off destroyed for lack of knowledge because thou hast rejected knowledge I will also reject thee that thou shalt be no priest to me seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God I will also forget thy children 7 As they were increased so they sinned against me therefore will I change their glory into shame 8 They eat up the sin of my people and they †Heb. lift up their soul to their iniquity let their heart on their iniquity 9 And there shall be * Isa 24.2 like people like priest and I will †Heb. visit upon punish them for their ways and †Heb. cause to return reward them their doings 10 For they shall eat and not have enough they shall commit whoredom and shall not increase because they have left off to take heed to the LORD 11 Whoredom and wine and new wine take away the heart 12 ¶ My people ask counsel at their stocks and their staff declareth unto them for the spirit of whoredoms hath caused them to err and they have gone a whoring from under their God 13 They sacrifice upon the tops of the mountains and burn incense upon the hills under oaks and poplars and elms because the shadow thereof is good therefore your daughters shall commit wheredom and your spouses shall commit adultery 14 ‖ Or shall I not c. I will not punish your daughters when they commit whoredom nor your spouses when they commit adultery for themselves are separated with whores and they sacrifice with harlots therefore the people that doth not understand shall ‖ Or be punished fall 15 ¶ Though thou Israel play the harlot yet let not Judah offend and come not ye unto Gilgal neither go ye up to * 1 King â—2 29 Beth-aven nor swear The LORD liveth 16 â—or Israel slideth back as a backsliding heifer now the LORD will â—eeâ— them as a lamb in a large place 17 Ephraim is joyned to idols let him alone 18 Their drink †Heb. â—â—â—e is sowre they have committed whoredom continually her †Heb. â—â—eldâ— rulers with shame do love Give ye 19 The wind hath bound her up in her wings and they shall be ashame because of their sacrifices CHAP. V. 1 Gods judâ—ements against the priests the people and the princes of Israel for tâ—â—â—r manifold sins 15 until they repent HEar ye this O priests and hearken ye house of Israel and give ye ear O house of the king for judgement is toward you because ye have been a snare on Mizpah and a net spread upon Tabor 2 And the revolter are profound to make slaughter ‖ Or 〈◊〉 c. though I have been †Heb. a 〈◊〉 a rebuker of them all 3 I know Ephraim and Israel is not hid from me for now O Ephraim thou committest whoredom and Israel is defiled 4 †Heb. they will not give ‖ Or their doings will not suffer thâ—m They will not frame their doings to turn unto their God for the spirit of whoredoms is in the midst of them and they have not known the LORD 5 And the pride of Israel doth testifie to his face therefore shall Israel and Ephraim fall in their iniquity Judah also shall fall with them 6 They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek the LORD but they shall not finde him he hath withdrawn himself from them 7 They have dealt treacherously against the LORD for they have begottâ—n strange children now shall a moneth devour them with their portions 8 Blow ye the cornet in Gibeah and the trumpet in Ramah cry aloud at Beth-aven after thee O Benjamin 9 Ephraim shall be desolate in the day of rebuke among the tribes of Israel have I made known that which shall surely be 10 The princes of Judah were like them that remove the bound thereâ—oâ—â— I will pour out my wrath upon them like water 11 Ephraim is oppressed and broken in judgement because be willingly walked after the commandment 12 Therefore will I be unto Ephraim as a moth and to the house of Judah as ‖ Or a worn rottenness 13 When Ephraim saw his sickness and Judah saw his wound then went Ephraim to the Assyrian and sent ‖ Or to the king of Jareb or to the king that sâ—ould plead to king Jareb yet could he not heal you nor cure you of your wound 14 For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion and as a young lion to the house of Judah I even I will tear and go away I will take away and none shall rescue him 15 ¶ I will go and return to my place †Heb. till they be guilty till they acknowledge their offence and seek my face in their affliction they will seek me early CHAP. VI. 1 An exhortation to repentance 4 A complaint of their untowardness and iniquity COmâ— and let us return unto the LORD for he hath torn and he will heal us he hath smitten and he will binde us up 2 * 1 Cor. 15.4 Afâ—er two days will he revive us in the third day he will raise us up and we shall live in his sight 3 Then shall we know if we follow on to know the LORD his going forth is prepared as the morning and he shall come unto us as the rain as the latter and former rain unto the earth 4 ¶ O Ephraim what shall I do unto thee O Judah what shall I do unto thee for your ‖ Or mercy or kindness goodness is as a morning cloud and as the early dew it goeth away 5 Therefore have I hewed them by the prophets I have slain them by the words of my mouth ‖ Or that the judgements might be c. and thy judgements are as the light that goeth forth 6 For I desired * 1 Sam â—5 22 Eccles 5.1 Mat. 9.13 12. â— mercy and not sacrifice and the knowledge of God mâ—re then burnt-offerings 7 But they ‖ Or like Adam like men have transgressed the covenant there have they dealt treacherously against me 8 Gâ—â—ead is a city of them that work iniquity and is ‖ Or â—unning â—or bloud polluted with â—lâ—â—d 9 And as troups of robbers wait for a man so the company of priests murder in the way †Heb with one shoulder or to Sâ—eâ—hem by consent for the commit ‖ Or enormity Jewdness 10 I â—ave seen an horrible thing in the house of Israel there is the whoredom of Ephraim Israel is defiled 11 Also O Judah he hath set an harvest for thee when I returned the captivity of my people CHAP. VII 1 A reproof of manifold sins 11 Gods wrath against them for their hypocrisie WHen I would have healed Israel then the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered and the
dishonourest thou God 24 For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you as it is * Isa 52.5 Ezek. 36.20.23 written 25 For circumcision verily profiteth if thou keep the law but if thou be a breaker of the law thy circumcision is made uncircumcision 26 Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision 27 And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature if it fulfil the law judge thee who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law 28 For he is not a Jew which is one outwardly neither is that circumcision which is outward in the flesh 29 But he is a Jew which is one inwardly and circumcision is that of the heart in the spirit and not in the letter whose praise is not of men but of God CHAP. III. 1 The Jews prerogative 3 which they have not lost 9 Howbeit the law convinceth them also of sin 20 Therefore no flesh is justified by the law 28 but all without difference by saith onely 31 and yet the law is not abolished WHat advantage then hath the Jew or what profit is there of circumcision 2 Much every way chiefly because that unto them were committed the oracles of God 3 For what it some did not beleeve shall their unbelief make the faith of God without effect 4 God forbid yea let God be true but * Ps 116.11 every man a liar as it is written * Ps 51.4 That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings and mightest overcome when thou art judged 5 But if our unrighteousness commend the righteousness of God what shall we say Is God unrighteous who taketh vengeance I speak as a man 6 God forbid for then how shall God judge the world 7 For if the truth of God hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory why yet am I also judged as a sinner 8 And not rather as we be slanderously reported and as some affirm that we say Let us do evil that good may come whose damnation is just 9 What then are we better then they No in no wise for we have before †Gr. charged proved both Jews and Gentiles that they are all under sin 10 As it is written * Ps 14.1 2 3. There is none righteous no not one 11 There is none that understandeth there is none that seeketh after God 12 They are all gone out of the way they are together become unprofitable there is none that doeth good no not one 13 * Psal 5.9 Their throat is an open sepulchre with their tongues they have used deceit * Ps 140.3 the poison of asps is under their lips 14 * Ps 10.7 Whos 's mouth is full of cursing and bitterness 15 * Pro. 1.16 Isa 59.7 8. Their feet are swift to shed bloud 16 Destruction and misery are in their ways 17 And the way of peace have they not known 18 * Psa 36.1 There is no fear of God before their eyes 19 Now we know that what things soever the law faith it faith to them who are under the law that every mouth may be stopped and all the world may become ‖ Or. subject to the judgement of God guilty before God 20 Therefore * Gal. 2.16 by the deeds or the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight for by the law is the knowledge of sin 21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested being witnessed by the law and the prophets 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that beleeve for there is no difference 23 For all have sinned and com◠short of the glory of God 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Jesus Christ 25 Whom God hath ‖ Or fore-ordained set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his bloud to declare his righteousness for the ‖ Or passing over remission of sins that are past through the forbearance of God 26 To declare I say at this time his righteousness that he might be just and the justifier of him which beleeveth in Jesus 27 Where is boasting then It is excluded By what law of works Nay but by the law of faith 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law 29 Is he the God of the Jews onley is he not also of the Gentiles Yes of the Gentiles also 30 Seeing it is one God which shall justifie the circumcision by faith and uncircumcision through faith 31 Do we then make void the law through faith God forbid yea we establish the law CHAP. IV. 1 Abrahams faith was imputed to him for righteousness to before be was circumcised 13 By faith onely be and his seed received the promise 16 Abraham is the father of all that beleeve 24 Our faith also shall be imputed to us for righteousness WHat shall we say then that Abraham our father as pertaining to the flesh hath found 2 For if Abraham were justified by works he hath whereof to glory but not before God 3 For what faith the scripture * Gen. 15.6 Gal. 3.6 Jam. 2.23 Abraham beleeved God and it was counted unto him for righteousness 4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace but of debt 5 But to him that worketh not but beleeveth on him that justifieth the ungodly his faith is counted for righteousness 6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works 7 Saying * Psal 32.1 Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven and whose sins are covered 8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin 9 Cometh this blessedness then upon the circumcision onely or upon the uncircumcision also For we say that faith was reckoned to Abraham for righteousness 10 How was it then reckoned when he was in circumcision or in uncircumcision not in circumcision but in uncircumcision 11 And he received the signe of circumcision a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised that he might be the father of all them that beleeve though they be not circumcised that righteousness might be imputed unto them also 12 And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision onely but also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham which he had being yet uncircumcised 13 For the promise that he should be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law but through the righteousness of faith 14 For if they which are of the law be heirs faith is made void and the promise made of none effect 15 Because the law worketh wrath for where no law is there is no transgression 16 Therefore it is of faith that it might be by grace to the
And unto the married I command yet not I but the Lord * Matth. 9.32 19.9 Mark 10.11 Luke 16.18 Let not the wife depart from her husband 11 But and if she depart let her remain unmarried or he reconciled to her husband and let not the husband put away his wife 12 But to the rest speak I not the Lord If any brother hath a wife that beleeveth not and she be pleased to dwell with him let him not put her away 13 And the woman which hath an husband that beleeveth not and if he be pleased to dwell with her let her not leave him 14 For the unbeleeving husband is sanctified by the wife and the unbeleeving wife is sanctified by the husband else were your children unclean but now are they holy 15 But if the unbeleeving depart let him depart A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases but God hath called us †Gr. in peace to peace 16 For what knowest thou O wife whether thou shalt save thy husband or how knowest thou O man whether thou shalt save thy wife 17 But as God hath distributed to every man as the Lord hath called every one so let him walk and so ordain I in all churches 18 Is any man called being circumcised let him not become uncircumcised is any called in uncircumcision let him not become circumcised 19 Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing but the keeping of the commandments of God 20 Let every man abide in the same calling wherein he was called 21 Art thou called being a servant care not for it but if thou mayest be made free use it rather 22 For he that is called in the Lord being a servant is the Lords †Gr. made free free-man likewise also lie that is called being free is Christs servant 23 * Chap. 6.20 Ye are bought with a price be not ye the servants of men 24 Brethren let every man wherein he is called therein abide with God 25 Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord yet I give my judgement as one that hath obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful 26 I suppose therefore that this is good for the present ‖ Or necessity distress I say that it is good for a man so to be 27 Art thou bound unto a wife seek not to be loosed Art thou loosed from a wife seek not a wife 28 But and if thou marry thou hast not sinned and if a virgin marry she hath not sinned nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh but I spare you 29 But this I say brethren the time is short It remaineth that both they that have wives be as though they had none 30 And they that weep as though they wept not and they that rejoyce as though they rejoyced not and they that buy as though they possessed not 31 And they that use this world as not abusing it for the fashion of this world passeth away 32 But I would have you without carefulness He that is unmarried careth for the things the belong to the Lord how he may please the Lord 33 But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world how he may please his wife 34 There is difference also between a wife and a virgin The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord that she may be holy both in body and in spirit but she that is married careth for the things of the world how she may please her husband 35 And this I speak for your own profit not that I may cast a snare upon you but for that which is comely and that you may attend upon the Lord without distraction 36 But if any man think that he behaveth himself uncomely toward his virgin if she pass the flower of her age and need so require let him do what he will he sinneth not let them marry 37 Nevertheless he that standeth stedfast in his heart having no necessity but hath power over his own will and hath so decreed in his heart that he will keep his virgin doeth well 38 So then he that giveth her in marriage doeth well but he that giveth her not in marriage doeth better 39 * Rom. ◠2 The wife is bound by the law as long as her husband liveth but if her husband be dead she is at liberty to be married to whom she will onely in the Lord. 40 But she is happier if she so abide after my judgement and I think also that I have the Spirit of God CHAP. VIII 1 To abstain from meats offered to idols 8 9 We must not abuse our Christian liberty to the offence of our brethren 11 but must bridle our knowledge with charity NOw as touching things offered unto idols we know that we all have knowledge Knowledge puffeth up but charity edifieth 2 And if any man think that he knoweth any thing he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know 3 But if any man love God the same is known of him 4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols we know that * Chap. 10.19 an idol is nothing in the world and that there is none other God but one 5 For though there be that are called gods whether in heaven or in earth as there be gods many and lords many 6 But to us there is but one God the Father of whom are all things and we ‖ Or for him Rom. 11.36 in him and one Lord Jesus Christ by whom are all things and we by him 7 Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol and their conscience being weak is defiled 8 But meat commendeth us not to God for neither if we eat ‖ Or have we the more are we the better neither if we eat not ‖ Or have we the less are we the worse 9 But take heed lest by any means this ‖ Or power liberty of yours become a stumbling-block to them that are weak 10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idols temple shall not the conscience of him that is weak be †Gr edified emboldned to eat those things which are offered to idols 11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish for whom Christ died 12 But when ye sin so against the brethren and wound their weak conscience ye sin against Christ 13 Wherefore * Rom. 14.21 if meat make my brother to offend I will eat no flesh while the world standeth lest I make my brother to offend CHAP. IX 1 He sheweth his liberty 7 and that the minister ought to live by the gospel 15 yet that himself hath of his own accord abstained 18 to be either chargeable unto them 22 or offensive unto any in matters indifferent 14 Our life is like unto

XV. 1 The law of the meat-offering and the drink offering 13 29 The stranger is under the same law 17 The law of the first of the dough for an heave-offering 22 The sacrifice for sins of ignorance 30 The punishment of presumption 32 He that violated the sabbath is stoned 37 The law of fringes ANd the LORD spake unto Moses saying 2 * Levit. 23.10 Speak unto the children of Israel and say unto them When ye be come into the land of your habitations which I give unto you 3 And will make an offering by fire unto the LORD a burnt-offering or a sacrifice * Lev. 22 2â—â— in †Heb. separating performing a vow or in a free-will-offering or in your solemn feasts to make a * Ex. 29.18 sweet savour unto the LORD of the herd or of the flock 4 Then * Lev. 2.1 shall he that offereth his offering unto the LORD bring a meat-offering of a tenth-deal of flour mingled with the fourth part of an hin of oyl 5 And the fourth part of an hin of wine for a drink-offering shalt thou prepare with the burnt-offering or sacrifice for one lamb 6 Or for a ram thou shalt prepare for a meat-offering two tenth-deals of flour mingled with the third part of an hin of oyl 7 And for a drink-offering thou shalt offer the third part of an hin of wine for a sweet savour unto the LORD 8 And when thou preparest a bullock for a burnt-offering or for a sacrifice in performing a vow or peace-offerings unto the LORD 9 Then shall he bring with a bullock a meat-offering of three tenth-deals of flour mingled with half an hin of oyl 10 And thou shalt bring for a drink-offering half an hin of wine for an offering made by fire of a sweet savour unto the LORD 11 Thus shall it be done for one bullock or for one ram or for a lamb or a kid 12 According to the number that ye shall prepare so shall ye do to every one according to their number 13 All that are born of the countrey shall do these things after this manner in offering an offering made by fire of a sweet savour unto the LORD 14 And if a stranger sojourn with you or whosoever be among you in your generations and will offer an offering made by fire of a sweet savour unto the LORD as ye do so he shall do 15 * Ex. 12.49 Ch. 9.14 One ordinance shall be both for you of the congregation and also for the stranger that sojourneth with you an ordinance for ever in your generations as ye are so shall the stranger be before the LORD 16 One law and one manner shall be for you and for the stranger that sojourneth with you 17 ¶ And the LORD spake unto Moses saying 18 Speak unto the children of Israel and say unto them When ye come into the land whither I bring you 19 Then it shall be that when ye eat of the bread of the land ye shall offer up an heave-offering unto the LORD 20 Ye shall offer up a cake of the first of your dought for an heave-offering as ye do the heave-offering of the threshing-floor so shall ye heave it 21 Of the first of your dough ye shall give unto the LORD an heave-offering in your generations 22 ¶ And if ye have erred and not observed all these commandments which the LORD hath spoken unto Moses 23 Even all that the LORD hath commanded you by the hand of Moses from the day that the LORD commanded Moses and henceforward among your generations 24 Then it shall be if ought be committed by ignorance †Heb. from the eyes without the knowledge of the congregation that all the congregation shall offer one young bullock for a burnt-offering for a sweet savour unto the LORD with his meat-offering and his drink-offering according to the ‖ Or ordinance manner and one kid of the goats for a sin-offering 25 And the priest shall make an atonement for all the congregation of the children of Israel and it shall be forgiven them for it is ignorance and they shall bring their offering a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD and their sin-offering before the LORD for their ignorance 26 And it shall be forgiven all the congregation of the children of Israel and the stranger that sojourneth among them seeing all the people were in ignorance 27 ¶ And * Levit. 4.27 if any soul sin through ignorance then he shall bring a she-goat of the first year for a sin-offering 28 And the priest shall make an atonement for the soul that sinneth ignorantly when he sinneth by ignorance before the LORD to make an atonement for him and it shall be forgiven him 29 You shall have one law for

XX.
