they have access to God True Faith purifieth the Heart in which they please him in that Truth which Christ is the Author and Finisher of which is called the Gift of God and they that are of this Faith the same are the Children of Abraham and are blessed with faithful Abraham and Abraham was called the Friend of God and so are all his Children that are of his Seed and Faith they are not Friends of the Devil the wicked and unrighteous One but him and his Works they forsake who are Friends of God they are Friends of Righteousness and Holiness c. To the Quarterly Meeting at York DEar Friends and Brethren in the Lord Jesus Christ Epist 383. your Life and Salvation your Rock and Foundation Rest and Sanctuary in all Storms Trials and Sufferings Now dear Friends my desire is that you may all strive for that which makes for Peace For Blessed are the Peace makers they are called the Children of God And therefore whatsoever things are Honest Just Pure Lovely and of good Report if there be any Vertue and Praise think on these things to Practice them So that in the Power of the Lord that is over the Devil and his Power all may be kept Chaste In the Power of God all to keep Chast c. Pure and Holy to the Glory of God and all that are in the true Faith and Knowledge may shew it forth in Vertue Temperance Patience Godliness Brotherly Kindness and true Charity or Love which beareth all things For they that dwell in Love dwell in God that is their Habitation And let all things be done in Love in the Name and Power of Jesus Christ And all to strive in the Spirit of the Lord God and his Truth to be of one Mind and Judgment so that you may all be baptised with one Spirit into one Body and so all to drink into one Spirit And keep the Unity and Fellowship in the Holy Spirit of God which is the Bond of Peace amongst all God's Children that are led by his Holy Spirit whose Communion and Fellowship is in the Holy Ghost by which ye are led into all Truth Now Dear Friends Let there be no Strife in all your Meetings nor vain Janglings nor Disputings but let all that tends to Strife be ended out of your Meetings that they may be kept Peaceable so that you may be at Peace among your selves and the God of Peace and Love may fill all your Hearts which Love edifies his Church To condescend one to another in the Fear of the Lord. And condescend one to another in the Fear of the Lord to that which is Honest Just Vertuous and of good Report And where any Weakness has been in any thing let it be covered and buried in the Spirit and Love of God that his Spirit and Love may be uppermost in you all to unite all your Hearts together And that you may all shew forth that you are the Children which the heavenly Wisdom is justified of which is Pure mark Pure Peaceable Gentle and easie to be intreated which is above the Wisdom that is below that 's neither Pure Peaceable nor easie to be intreated c. And in all matters of Business or Difference or Controversies treat one another in such things kindly and gently and be not fierce or heady and high minded for that Spirit will bring Men and Women to be Lovers of themselves and to be Despisers of others and that which is good which leads Nature out of its Course and so looses Natural Affections and at last comes to be without Natural Affections which Spirit we see most of Christendom is led by For if they were in natural Affections they would not destroy their fellow Creatures about Religion but being without natural Affections they have not Affections to their fellow Creatures to wit Man and Woman which were made in God's Image The Law and the Prophets Commanded to Love their Neighbour as themselves To love our Neighbour as our selves and Christ Commands to do unto all Men as they would have Men do unto them And the Gospel Commands to Love one another by which they are known to be Christ's Disciples and to Love their Enemies and to pray for them and to forgive one another as Christ has forgiven them So that those whose Conversation is according to the Gospel of Peace do establsh the Law and the Prophets who know the Divine Nature and are made Partakers of it are not without natural Affections but have Affections to it to cherish and preserve it And this the Word of Wisdom teaches by which all things were made and created good and blessed by which all things are upheld by which all things are sanctified to God's People that God created by his Word and made them good and blessed them By which Word and Wisdom all things are sanctified to God's People as before and are used and ordered by his Word of Wisdom to his Glory and Praise And now Dear Friends whereas there have been formerly some Discourses by some in your Meeting of Marrying within a Year after the decease of the Wife or of the Husband my desire is in those things Friends may shew forth both Chastity and Vertue and Temperance For formerly hasty Marriages was reckoned amongst the infamous Persons Marriage within the Year not of good Report as for a Man or a Woman to Marry within the Year of the Death of the Wife or Husband And therefore for Vertue and Chastity's sake and the Truth and good Examples sake that which is Honest Lovely and of good Report keep and walk in and follow For we ought in the Power of Christ

Christ Epist 401. who is your holy heavenly Rock and Foundation of God that standeth sure who was the Foundation and the Rock of his Church Christ the Foundation of God that standeth sure in the Apostles days and is now You may see how Christ sent John tho Encourage his Church and saith in Rev. 3.8 I know thy Works Behold I have set before thee an open Door and no Man can shut it For thou hast a little strength and hast kept my Word and hast not denied my Name Behold I will make them of the Synagogue of Satan which say they are Jews and are not but do lye behold I will make them to come and worship before they feet and to know that I have loved thee Because thou hast kept the Word of my Patience I also will keep thee from the hour of Temptation which shall come upon all the World to try them that dwell upon the face of the Earth Now you may see what Comfort the Sons and Daughters of God have that keep the Word of Patience what a Door is opened to them of the Blessings Mercies and Riches of God which no Man can shut from them And they which said they were Jews and were not or such as make outward Profession of the Words of Truth and Form of Godliness and are not in the Truth such the Lord saith Behold I will make them of the Synagogue of Satan c. So here you may see the Lord would have his Children his Church to take notice what he will make of them that do not possess the Truth namely The Synagogue of Satan he will bow them down and make them to know He loveth his faithful People And all such as went out from the Church of Christ Those who go from the Church maifest themselves in the Apostles days which were not of them and Corah Dathan and Abiram that went out from the Jews c. and all they that separated themselves in the Apostles days from the Church of Chrift and all they that separated themselves now c. and are gone out from the Church of Christ have maniseft they were not of them They that went out from the Church of Chrust in the Apostles days and separated themselves from them and all they that go from the Church of Christ now and separate themselves from them they have erred from the Word of Patience and have not kept that but such are gone into Temptations of the World and are become as the Synagogue of Satan and like Raging Waves of the Sea Satan's Fruits and Works they do manifest so that by their Fruits it is known of what Synagogue they are and have and do sufficiently discover it in all Ages how that Patience is worn out and weareth out and that they have not kept the Word of Patience and none such are like to preach the Word of God and the Word of Life and the Word of Patience and the Word of Wisdom that liveth and abideth and endureth for ever that keep not the Word of Patience for how can such keep the Word of Patience or the Word of Life or the Word of Wisdom when they separate themselves and go out from the Church of shrist and are not of it For had they been of it they would have continued with the Church of Christ in the Word of Life Wisdom and Patience But now they do manifest themselves to be out of the gentle Wisdom of God The Fruits of hem who ere not led by the Wisdom of God and out of the Word of Patience in a Rash Hasty Furious Envious Malicious Hateful Lying Defaming Slandering Gain-saying and Envious Spirit of Cain Corah and Ham and the Fruits of this Spirit is manifest sufficiently now as in other Ages to them that live in the Word of Life Wisdom and Patience by which Word all God's Children are born again of the Immortal Seed and feeds upon the Milk of the Word by which Word all things were made and created by which Word all God's People are reconciled to God which Word liveth and abideth and endureth for ever Now as there isa growth and adding to Faith and Vertue and Knowledge and Temperance and Godliness and Patience and Brotherly Kindness and Charity as God's Children are led by the Spirit of God in which they have Unity and it is the Bond of their Peace So as there is an erring from the Spirit of God there is a degenerating from Vertue Kindness and true Knowledge and Godliness and Temperance and Patience and Brotherly Kindness and Charity this we have seen both now in this Age as in the Days of the Apostles and this degenerating Spirlt whose Patience is worn out they may get all the good Words in the Scriptures Words of the Spirit Words of Truth Words of Faith and the Promises and apply them to their Impatient Spirits but they will lose the Comfort of them But the Word of Life the Word of Wisdom the Word of Patience will never be worn out but liveth and abideth and endureth for ever Dear Friends f we suffer for Righteousness appy are we Be ye Followers of that which is good and if ye suffer for Righteousness sake happy are ye For it 's better if the Will of God be so that ye suffer for well-doing and not for evil-doing because Christ also suffered for us leaving us an Example that we should follow his steps Who when he was reviled reviled not again when he suffered he threatned not but committed himself to him that judgeth Righteously If ye suffer for Righteousness sake happy are ye and be not afraid of their Terror neither be troubled having a good Conseience that whereas they speak Evil of you as of Evil-doers they may be ashamed that falsly accuse your good conversation in Christ And if ye are Reproached for the Name of Christ Jesus happy are ye for the Spirit of Glory and of God resteth upon you on their part he is Evil spoken of but on your part he is Glorified But let none of you suffer as a Murderer or a Thief or as a Busie-body in other Mens matters But if any Man suffer as a Christian let him not be ashamed but let him Glorifie God upon this behalf that he suffereth as a Christian not as a Murderer Thief Evil-doer or a Busie-body in other Mens matters for that is not a Suffering for Christ who hath suffered for you and they that will reign with him must suffer with him The God of all Grace who hath called us into his Eternal Glory by Jesus Christ after that ye have suffered a while make ye perfect stablish strengthen and settle you this is through the Sufferings for Christ Jesus the Captain of our Salvation who was made perfect through Sufferings and is able to succour all his Followers in their Temptations and Sufferings And the Apostle saith to the Church of Christ the Philipians I count all things but loss for the

whose Light doth Justifie you who then shall condemn you Therefore in that dwell which doth Condemn all the Evil in the World G. F. AND all Friends every where pray to the Lord to give you Dominion over all and that in his Power and Life and Seed ye may live and reign And all Friends submit your selves one to another in the Fear of God and be one with the Witness of God in all One with the Witness of God and look at that and that will keep you down from looking at the Bad but looking at the Good keepeth your Minds over the Bad with the Lord. To Friends Concerning the Covenant of Light and Life FRiends every where Epist 63. to the Measure of the Life of God in you all take heed that with it your Minds may be guided up to the Living God from whence Light and Life doth come and Vertue A Note concerning the Life and Strength and Nourishment so that with the Life ye may be kept from that which vails and clouds and darkens where the Mist of Darkness cometh over you Wherefore to the Measure of Light take heed that with it all your Minds may be guided up to the Father of Life from whence Life cometh that the Knowledge of the Glory of God in the Face of Christ Jesus ye may all come to enjoy So that in Peace Patience Righteousness and Temperance and Godliness ye may be kept and all grow up in brotherly Kindness Brotherly Kindness and be kept from that which causeth Strife and Sects and Divisions so that nothing may rule but the Light of God among you To that which is pure and lowly take heed that Mastery and Strife may be thrown down and the Evil Eye and the Eye that is out from the Life of God may be known and pluck'd out so that the Light of the glorious Gospel may shine and that ye may all know it And so all awake to the Righteousness of Christ the Righteousness of God whom Man was departed from Christ the Righteousness of God who enlighteneth every one The Righteousness of Christ that cometh into the World that all Men through him might believe So all having a Light from Christ Jesus the Righteousness of God he is the Way to the Father whom God gave for a Covenant of Light Life and Peace Therefore every one in your Measures Wait that ye may see him and come to witness the Covenant of Life and Peace with God receiving his Gift Christ Jesus the Son and Mediator So this I warn you all in the Presence of the Living God to wait every one in the Measure of Light and of Life that ye may all come to witness the Seal of the Covenant The Seal the Covenant and be led and kept with that which will keep you Spotless and Clean and Holy and Righteous where Power is received from him who hath given you a Light so that in the Light ye may all have Vnity and in it be kept and all that which is contrary to it with it may be Condemned And in this Covenant of Light and Life the Gift of God know one another and him by whom the World was made who was before the World was who is now again manifested Glory and Honour for ever be unto the Lord That the Crown that is Immortal ye may all come to see and receive and your own Crowns lay down at the Feet of Jesus And so his Light being come to all your own Works are ceased from and your own Thoughts which if ye follow them they will lead you into Error Therefore wait in the Light which comes from him by whom the World was made to receive Wisdom from him that in it and with it ye may be preserved from the World and out of the World to him by whom the World was made and that Wisdom may be Justified of her Children Wisdom Justified of her Children and ye kept all Low in the Fear of God from all Strife and Deceit and Dissension and Pollution and Hypocrisie and Dissimulation single with the Measure of Light which comes from the Father of Life Every one to feel with the Life of God the Arm of the Lord God not to be shortened but to reach to every one of you all and to carry you all in his Arm and gently to lead them that are with young So feeling the Presence of the Lord God with you ye receive Vertue into your Souls from the Living God who nourisheth his own living Plant and Plants So the Lord God Almighty preserve you in the Light which shews to every one their evil Deeds and reproves for them this is the true Light which if ye come to it and love it ye come to Christ and love him by whom the World was made and it will let you see the Chief Shepherd and Bishop of your Souls and how ye have gone astray like Sheep without a Shepherd For it is that which restores you to Christ the Bishop of your Souls who is the Prophet that must be heard And all who will not come to the Light which cometh from Jesus Christ but hate it because their Deeds are evil they do know that the Light will reprove them Therefore this is their Condemnation The Light of Truth the Light which is your Teacher who come to it and receive it ye receive Christ and he giveth the Power to become the Sons of God which many do witness blessed be the Name of the Lord. Therefore wait every one in your Measure to know the Scripture fulfilled in you which came not by the Will of Man but was learned of God which is for the perfecting of the Man of God through Faith in Christ Jesus and is to be read and to be fulfilled and to be practised which was given forth from the Spirit Therefore every one wait in the Measure of the Spirit to learn of him as they did which gave it forth G. To Friends in the Ministry ALL Friends Epist 64. who are moved of the Lord to speak the Word of the Lord whom the Lord hath made to be his Mouth speak not your own Words to feed the sensual part of Man in your own Wills for there God is not honoured and Wisdom is not justified But ye that are moved to speak in Steeple-Houses or to the Priests who have not the Word of the Lord Speak the Word of the Lord faithfully but the Letter speak the Word of the Lord faithfully neither add to it with your Reason nor diminish from it with a disobedient Mind but speaking the Word of the Lord faithfully it is sharper than a Two-edged Sword to cut down all Deceit and as a Fire to burn up the Chaff and it purifies you that speak it And so as an Hammer it will break down all the Contrary And the Word is but One which sanctifies all and cleanseth the Heart and sanctifies and reconciles
