foolishness_n for_o find_v himself_o wise_a and_o wise_a than_o many_o either_o in_o contrive_v to_o increase_v his_o gain_n or_o in_o dexterity_n of_o apprehension_n and_o invention_n in_o matter_n of_o state_n or_o policy_n though_o he_o know_v not_o or_o care_v not_o for_o to_o walk_v in_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n yet_o he_o think_v himself_o wise_a and_o sufficient_o wise_a for_o his_o part_n but_o as_o the_o apostle_n 1._o cor._n 1._o 20._o say_v have_v not_o god_n make_v the_o wisdom_n of_o this_o world_n foolishness_n so_o there_o be_v nothing_o true_a then_o that_o a_o man_n whole_o worldly_a mind_v nothing_o mind_v the_o commandment_n of_o god_n to_o do_v they_o or_o observe_v they_o in_o all_o his_o action_n and_o thought_n be_v not_o wise_a as_o he_o think_v but_o contrariwise_o be_v even_o fill_v with_o foolishness_n let_v such_o therefore_o if_o there_o be_v any_o heart_n in_o they_o to_o do_v themselves_o good_a learn_v also_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n endeavour_v that_o they_o as_o guide_n go_v with_o all_o their_o plot_n and_o devise_n to_o the_o rule_v they_o when_o they_o tend_v unto_o stray_v from_o the_o way_n of_o righteousness_n and_o then_o they_o shall_v change_v their_o wisdom_n from_o foolishness_n to_o wisdom_n indeed_o if_o their_o gain_n if_o their_o promotion_n will_v not_o stand_v with_o the_o observation_n of_o god_n commandment_n and_o therefore_o they_o think_v that_o it_o be_v not_o wisdom_n for_o they_o by_o observe_v the_o commandment_n to_o deprive_v themselves_o of_o such_o gain_n or_o promotion_n let_v they_o know_v that_o when_o they_o have_v rear_v up_o their_o state_n unto_o the_o uttermost_a than_o they_o be_v but_o as_o man_n who_o be_v foolish_o under_o some_o old_a ruin_n which_o be_v ready_a to_o fall_v upon_o they_o to_o their_o destruction_n if_o wise_o they_o hasten_v not_o themselves_o from_o under_o they_o as_o for_o the_o poor_a of_o the_o world_n the_o simple_a i_o mean_v or_o unlearned_a let_v they_o also_o know_v that_o if_o unto_o this_o poverty_n of_o they_o they_o join_v also_o worldly-mindednesse_a nothing_o care_v to_o know_v the_o commandment_n of_o god_n and_o to_o be_v rule_v by_o they_o in_o their_o poor_a plot_n and_o contriving_n for_o mean_n of_o live_v or_o for_o gain_n than_o they_o be_v of_o all_o man_n the_o most_o miserable_a and_o true_o base_a as_o be_v both_o poor_a and_o wicked_a and_o in_o the_o wrath_n of_o god_n but_o if_o they_o will_v resort_v to_o their_o teacher_n and_o pray_v he_o to_o acquaint_v they_o with_o the_o commandment_n of_o the_o lord_n set_v themselves_o also_o to_o rule_v their_o act_n and_o their_o thought_n by_o they_o then_o shall_v they_o feel_v a_o wisdom_n to_o grow_v in_o themselves_o change_v they_o in_o their_o mind_n within_o make_v they_o of_o simple_a or_o ignorant_a to_o be_v of_o good_a understanding_n and_o true_o wise_a therefore_o also_o the_o commandment_n which_o most_o import_v we_o be_v such_o as_o which_o the_o simple_a may_v understand_v that_o so_o none_o may_v plead_v for_o his_o ignorance_n but_o every_o one_o of_o what_o condition_n soever_o he_o be_v low_o as_o well_o as_o high_a poor_a as_o rich_a shallow_a as_o deep_a of_o judgement_n may_v better_v both_o his_o understanding_n and_o also_o his_o condition_n and_o very_o a_o worthy_a work_n be_v it_o in_o a_o pastor_n to_o have_v a_o eye_n to_o his_o auditory_n knowledge_n or_o ignorance_n observation_n or_o neglect_n of_o the_o commandment_n of_o the_o lord_n bend_v his_o instruction_n and_o exhortation_n his_o give_a consolation_n or_o denounce_v of_o judgement_n according_o for_o certain_o it_o be_v one_o of_o the_o chief_a part_n of_o his_o office_n to_o have_v a_o watchful_a eye_n over_o the_o manner_n and_o conversation_n of_o his_o people_n observe_v their_o change_n or_o not_o change_v from_o wickedness_n unto_o righteousness_n from_o profaneness_n unto_o holiness_n i_o can_v therefore_o but_o much_o commend_v they_o who_o insist_v much_o upon_o instruction_n and_o exhortation_n concern_v manner_n observe_v in_o their_o auditory_n the_o defect_n or_o unrighteousness_n and_o sharp_o reprove_v the_o same_o and_o that_o plain_o teach_v they_o withal_o and_o that_o frequent_o the_o way_n of_o righteousness_n be_v careful_a to_o impress_v in_o they_o now_o some_o than_o other_o of_o the_o commandment_n of_o god_n and_o show_v they_o how_o they_o shall_v make_v use_n of_o they_o in_o their_o common_a action_n and_o conversation_n i_o can_v like_v that_o superficial_a and_o too_o general_a kind_n of_o touch_v at_o wickedness_n which_o the_o teacher_n of_o these_o our_o time_n too_o much_o for_o the_o most_o part_n now_o affect_v for_o hereby_o they_o speak_v not_o as_o to_o their_o own_o people_n but_o as_o of_o thing_n which_o concern_v not_o they_o as_o guilty_a save_v only_o to_o hear_v of_o they_o as_o the_o text_n give_v occasion_n and_o this_o but_o as_o for_o a_o warning_n for_o the_o teacher_n of_o these_o time_n seem_v to_o be_v loath_a to_o exasperate_v any_o by_o a_o just_a reproof_n of_o wickedness_n evident_a in_o they_o speak_v always_o so_o general_o rather_o that_o man_n may_v take_v or_o leave_v the_o reproof_n at_o their_o own_o pleasure_n for_o my_o part_n i_o think_v this_o to_o be_v a_o fault_n whilst_o a_o pastor_n though_o wickedness_n be_v even_o manifest_a in_o any_o of_o his_o auditory_a yet_o he_o dare_v not_o reprove_v any_o one_o plain_o thereof_o but_o must_v ever_o speak_v in_o general_a manner_n leave_v the_o party_n to_o take_v or_o leave_v the_o reproof_n at_o his_o pleasure_n indeed_o without_o certainty_n and_o evidence_n none_o ought_v to_o be_v public_o reprove_v for_o public_a reproof_n be_v a_o kind_n of_o punishment_n and_o not_o be_v sure_o ground_v may_v be_v rather_o a_o scandal_n then_o a_o just_a reproof_n but_o where_o the_o wickedness_n be_v manifest_a as_o be_v a_o
