as_o a_o action_n but_o a_o essence_n and_o beginning_n and_o that_o it_o shall_v be_v do_v as_o a_o action_n by_o do_v it_o be_v necessary_a that_o it_o shall_v be_v do_v in_o the_o creature_n and_o therefore_o when_o this_o knowledge_n and_o light_n do_v work_v in_o any_o creature_n there_o it_o do_v know_v and_o learn_v what_o itself_o be_v and_o so_o it_o be_v good_a and_o therefore_o it_o be_v not_o this_o or_o that_o and_o further_o it_o do_v not_o know_v this_o or_o that_o but_o it_o do_v know_v and_o learn_v to_o know_v that_o one_o true_a simple_a perfect_a good_a which_o be_v neither_o this_o nor_o that_o but_o be_v all_o good_a and_o above_o all_o good_a now_o it_o be_v here_o say_v that_o he_o must_v learn_v that_o only_a good_a but_o do_v any_o man_n learn_v of_o himself_o observe_v and_o mark_v this_o well_o even_o as_o god_n be_v good_a knowledge_n and_o light_n so_o be_v he_o also_o will_v love_n justice_n and_o truth_n he_o be_v also_o all_o virtue_n and_o yet_o these_o be_v all_o one_o essence_n in_o god_n neither_o can_v any_o of_o these_o be_v bring_v into_o action_n or_o exercise_n without_o the_o creature_n for_o in_o god_n there_o be_v nothing_o but_o essence_n and_o beginning_n not_o any_o action_n but_o when_o this_o one_o which_o notwithstanding_o be_v all_o these_o shall_v gain_v any_o creature_n unto_o itself_o and_o have_v power_n over_o it_o and_o do_v so_o prepare_v it_o and_o fit_v it_o that_o it_o may_v know_v in_o it_o what_o belong_v to_o itself_o so_o far_o forth_o i_o say_v as_o that_o one_o be_v will_n and_o love_n and_o be_v teach_v of_o itself_o as_o it_o be_v light_a and_o knowledge_n neither_o will_v any_o thing_n but_o that_o one_o which_o be_v itself_o and_o furthermore_o here_o be_v nothing_o will_v or_o esteem_v but_o that_o which_o be_v good_a as_o it_o be_v good_a and_o that_o for_o no_o other_o reason_n but_o because_o it_o be_v good_a and_o not_o by_o reason_n it_o be_v this_o or_o that_o belove_v of_o this_o man_n or_o that_o man_n and_o either_o pleasant_a or_o grievous_a to_o this_o man_n or_o that_o man_n sweet_a or_o bitter_a and_o the_o like_a and_o these_o thing_n be_v not_o regard_v nor_o seek_v either_o for_o self_n or_o as_o itself_o also_o all_o selfness_n and_o egoity_n i_o and_o to_o i_o etc._n etc._n be_v here_o leave_v and_o fall_v to_o the_o ground_n so_o that_o it_o be_v not_o say_v i_o love_v myself_o or_o thou_o or_o the_o like_a and_o if_o love_n be_v ask_v what_o it_o love_v it_o will_v answer_v i_o love_v god_n and_o why_o because_o it_o be_v good_a and_o for_o good_a therefore_o it_o be_v meet_v and_o right_a that_o it_o shall_v be_v most_o esteem_v and_o if_o there_o be_v any_o thing_n better_o than_o god_n that_o be_v and_o aught_o to_o be_v love_v for_o god_n therefore_o god_n do_v not_o love_v himself_o as_o himself_o but_o as_o good_a and_o if_o god_n know_v any_o thing_n better_o than_o god_n he_o will_v love_v that_o and_o not_o himself_o so_o far_o be_v god_n from_o all_o egoity_n and_o selfness_n neither_o have_v he_o any_o thing_n to_o do_v with_o it_o further_o than_o be_v needful_a in_o respect_n of_o the_o person_n deify_v man_n vex_v or_o grieve_v any_o man_n which_o be_v thus_o to_o be_v understand_v it_o never_o fall_v into_o his_o will_n desire_n or_o mind_n to_o do_v or_o leave_v undo_v anything_o to_o speak_v or_o to_o be_v silent_a whereby_o he_o may_v breed_v pain_n or_o grief_n to_o any_o man_n chap._n xxxii_o that_o the_o will_n of_o man_n be_v prone_a to_o evil_n and_o therefore_o to_o be_v forsake_v some_o man_n will_v say_v if_o he_o will_v wish_v and_o do_v the_o best_a unto_o every_o man_n he_o ought_v also_o to_o help_v every_o man_n and_o cause_v all_o thing_n to_o befall_v he_o according_a to_o his_o heart_n desire_v for_o example_n so_o as_o one_o may_v obtain_v to_o be_v make_v pope_n another_o a_o bishop_n etc._n etc._n i_o answer_v he_o that_o further_v the_o will_n of_o man_n help_v he_o to_o the_o worst_a thing_n for_o the_o more_o that_o man_n follow_v his_o own_o will_n and_o increase_v in_o the_o same_o so_o much_o the_o further_o he_o be_v from_o god_n and_o the_o true_a good_a now_o god_n will_v willing_o
that_o which_o be_v perfect_a will_v be_v find_v and_o perceive_v to_o be_v boundless_o infinite_o and_o innumerable_o more_o excellent_a and_o better_a than_o whatsoever_o be_v imperfect_a and_o in_o part_n also_o the_o eternal_a more_o than_o the_o transitory_a and_o the_o fountain_n and_o beginning_n more_o than_o all_o thing_n which_o flow_v or_o can_v proceed_v from_o it_o and_o so_o that_o which_o be_v imperfect_a and_o in_o part_n shall_v be_v unpleasant_a and_o become_v abolish_v this_o observe_v to_o the_o end_n that_o that_o which_o be_v excellent_a and_o the_o best_a may_v be_v also_o hold_v the_o dear_a it_o be_v requisite_a that_o this_o be_v do_v chap._n vii_o of_o the_o two_o eye_n of_o christ_n we_o must_v consider_v that_o which_o be_v read_v and_o say_v that_o the_o soul_n of_o christ_n have_v two_o eye_n the_o one_o the_o right_a the_o other_o the_o left_a in_o the_o beginning_n when_o thing_n be_v create_v the_o right_a eye_n do_v turn_v itself_o into_o eternity_n and_o divinity_n and_o there_o stand_v unmoveable_a in_o perfect_a contemplation_n and_o use_v of_o divine_a nature_n and_o divine_a perfection_n and_o remain_v unmoved_a free_a from_o all_o fall_n labour_n motion_n grief_n pain_n and_o torment_n which_o happen_v to_o the_o outward_a man_n with_o his_o left_a eye_n he_o behold_v thing_n create_v and_o do_v know_v the_o difference_n and_o do_v understand_v what_o be_v better_a and_o worse_o more_o noble_a and_o more_o base_a and_o in_o this_o manner_n the_o outward_a man_n of_o christ_n be_v frame_v thus_o stand_v the_o inward_a man_n of_o christ_n according_a to_o the_o right_a eye_n of_o his_o soul_n in_o the_o perfect_a use_n of_o the_o divine_a nature_n in_o perfect_a pleasure_n and_o joy_n but_o the_o outward_a man_n and_o the_o left_a eye_n of_o the_o soul_n be_v with_o he_o in_o pain_n and_o calamity_n and_o perfect_a labour_n and_o so_o it_o come_v to_o pass_v that_o that_o inward_a or_o right_a eye_n remain_v unmoved_a not_o hinder_v free_a from_o all_o labour_n pain_n and_o torment_n which_o happen_v to_o the_o outward_a man_n it_o be_v say_v that_o when_o christ_n be_v whip_v at_o the_o pillar_n and_o do_v hang_v on_o the_o cross_n according_a to_o the_o outward_a man_n his_o soul_n or_o his_o inward_a man_n do_v stand_v according_a to_o the_o right_a eye_n in_o perfect_a use_n of_o the_o divine_a nature_n and_o in_o as_o high_a a_o condition_n of_o pleasure_n and_o joy_n as_o after_o he_o ascend_v into_o heaven_n and_o be_v now_o also_o that_o his_o outward_a man_n or_o his_o soul_n according_a to_o the_o left_a eye_n in_o this_o work_n in_o all_o thing_n which_o do_v belong_v unto_o he_o as_o concern_v outward_a thing_n be_v not_o hinder_v or_o damnify_v by_o the_o internal_a neither_o of_o they_o depend_v on_o the_o other_o now_o the_o create_a soul_n of_o man_n it_o have_v also_o two_o eye_n the_o one_o in_o the_o power_n of_o behold_v eternity_n the_o other_o in_o look_v upon_o time_n and_o thing_n create_v to_o know_v the_o difference_n as_o before_o have_v be_v say_v and_o to_o give_v life_n to_o the_o body_n but_o these_o two_o eye_n of_o the_o soul_n of_o man_n can_v do_v their_o work_n together_o for_o that_o the_o soul_n with_o the_o right_a eye_n may_v behold_v eternity_n it_o be_v necessary_a that_o the_o left_a eye_n do_v abate_v all_o his_o work_n and_o so_o carry_v itself_o as_o if_o it_o be_v dead_a also_o that_o the_o left_a eye_n may_v perform_v all_o his_o work_n and_o be_v employ_v in_o outward_a thing_n and_o be_v in_o pain_n and_o thing_n create_v it_o be_v necessary_a that_o the_o right_a eye_n be_v employ_v in_o contemplation_n chap._n viii_o whether_o in_o this_o life_n eternal_a life_n may_v be_v taste_v it_o be_v a_o question_n whether_o the_o soul_n whilst_o it_o be_v in_o the_o body_n may_v proceed_v so_o far_o as_o to_o behold_v eternity_n and_o receive_v a_o taste_n of_o eternal_a life_n and_o everlasting_a happiness_n usual_o it_o be_v deny_v and_o so_o it_o be_v true_a if_o you_o understand_v it_o after_o this_o manner_n so_o long_o as_o the_o soul_n do_v behold_v the_o body_n and_o those_o thing_n that_o belong_v to_o the_o body_n as_o time_n and_o thing_n which_o be_v create_v and_o do_v conform_v and_o mingle_v himself_o with_o they_o this_o can_v be_v for_o to_o the_o end_n the_o soul_n may_v discern_v or_o behold_v eternity_n it_o be_v necessary_a that_o it_o be_v pure_a and_o free_a from_o all_o resemblance_n and_o from_o all_o thing_n create_v and_o especial_o that_o it_o be_v separate_v from_o itself_o and_o this_o thing_n never_o befall_v in_o this_o life_n but_o s._n dennis_n think_v it_o may_v be_v do_v as_o may_v be_v gather_v out_o of_o his_o word_n to_o timothy_n which_o arâ—_n these_o to_o behold_v divine_a secret_n it_o be_v necessary_a that_o thou_o abandon_v thy_o sense_n and_o whatsoever_o can_v be_v perceive_v by_o the_o sense_n reason_n also_o and_o the_o action_n of_o reason_n and_o whatsoever_o can_v be_v perceive_v and_o know_v by_o reason_n whether_o it_o be_v create_v or_o uncreated_a and_o that_o thou_o go_v and_o pass_v out_o of_o thyself_o and_o from_o the_o knowledge_n of_o all_o these_o thing_n which_o i_o have_v mention_v and_o so_o come_v into_o that_o one_o unity_n of_o he_o who_o be_v above_o all_o nature_n and_o knowledge_n thus_o far_o he_o now_o if_o this_o can_v not_o befall_v man_n why_o do_v he_o teach_v it_o or_o why_o do_v he_o speak_v to_o man_n in_o this_o life_n yea_o further_o know_v that_o a_o certain_a master_n say_v upon_o these_o word_n of_o dennis_n that_o it_o do_v come_v to_o pass_v that_o it_o do_v often_o befall_v man_n that_o he_o very_o think_v that_o he_o do_v see_v and_o behold_v it_o as_o often_o as_o he_o will_v and_o there_o be_v no_o such_o aspect_n but_o that_o it_o be_v more_o excellent_a dear_a to_o god_n and_o more_o worthy_a than_o whatsoever_o all_o thing_n create_v as_o create_v can_v perform_v chap._n ix_o that_o good_a except_o it_o be_v in_o man_n can_v make_v man_n happy_a we_o must_v especial_o observe_v and_o know_v that_o no_o creature_n no_o good_a no_o not_o the_o good_a itself_o which_o be_v god_n do_v make_v man_n or_o the_o soul_n endue_v with_o virtue_n good_a or_o bless_a so_o long_o as_o it_o be_v without_o the_o soul_n and_o the_o same_o we_o must_v think_v of_o sin_n or_o malice_n and_o therefore_o although_o it_o be_v a_o good_a thing_n to_o inquire_v &_o search_v and_o also_o to_o know_v what_o good_a man_n have_v do_v or_o suffer_v how_o they_o have_v live_v and_o what_o god_n in_o they_o or_o by_o they_o have_v do_v or_o will_v yet_o it_o be_v a_o hundred_o time_n better_o that_o a_o man_n shall_v search_v &_o know_v what_o and_o of_o what_o kind_n the_o state_n of_o his_o own_o life_n be_v and_o what_o god_n be_v and_o will_v and_o do_v in_o he_o and_o in_o what_o thing_n god_n be_v willing_a or_o unwilling_a to_o use_v he_o therefore_o this_o also_o be_v true_a which_o be_v say_v that_o it_o be_v never_o so_o good_a to_o go_v abroad_o but_o it_o be_v better_a to_o remain_v at_o home_n this_o also_o be_v to_o be_v know_v that_o eternal_a happiness_n be_v in_o that_o only_a one_o and_o none_o other_o and_o that_o man_n or_o his_o soul_n shall_v either_o be_v or_o become_v bless_v it_o be_v necessary_a that_o that_o only_a thing_n shall_v be_v in_o the_o soul_n some_o will_v ask_v what_o be_v that_o one_o good_a i_o answer_v it_o be_v good_a or_o to_o be_v make_v good_a and_o yet_o it_o be_v neither_o this_o nor_o that_o good_a which_o can_v be_v name_v know_v or_o show_v but_o all_o and_o above_o all_o neither_o be_v it_o needful_a that_o it_o shall_v now_o again_o enter_v into_o the_o soul_n for_o it_o be_v already_o in_o it_o though_o unknown_a when_o it_o be_v say_v that_o it_o be_v meet_v we_o shall_v come_v unto_o it_o and_o that_o it_o shall_v come_v into_o the_o soul_n it_o be_v as_o much_o as_o if_o you_o shall_v say_v we_o ought_v to_o seek_v it_o have_v the_o seek_n of_o it_o and_o smell_v it_o out_o and_o because_o it_o be_v but_o one_o unity_n and_o simplicity_n be_v better_a than_o multitude_n for_o blessedness_n be_v not_o place_v in_o many_o and_o multitude_n but_o in_o one_o and_o unity_n neither_o be_v it_o in_o many_o thing_n create_v or_o in_o the_o work_n of_o any_o create_a thing_n that_o i_o may_v speak_v brief_o but_o blessedness_n be_v only_o place_v in_o god_n and_o his_o work_n wherefore_o i_o ought_v to_o have_v respect_n to_o god_n and_o his_o work_n only_o and_o to_o relinquish_v all_o natural_a thing_n with_o their_o work_n and_o chief_o myself_o yea_o further_o all_o work_n or_o miracle_n which_o
either_o god_n have_v do_v or_o ever_o may_v do_v in_o or_o by_o the_o nature_n of_o all_o thing_n yea_o also_o god_n himself_o with_o all_o his_o goodness_n as_o he_o be_v without_o i_o and_o come_v to_o i_o do_v not_o make_v i_o bless_v but_o as_o he_o be_v within_o i_o and_o be_v know_v love_a feel_v and_o perceive_v by_o i_o chap._n x._o of_o the_o desire_n of_o those_o who_o be_v illuminate_v now_o it_o be_v to_o be_v observe_v that_o those_o that_o be_v illuminate_v with_o that_o true_a light_n do_v know_v that_o whatsoever_o they_o themselves_o can_v desire_v or_o make_v choice_n of_o or_o whatsoever_o have_v be_v desire_v choose_a or_o know_v at_o any_o time_n of_o any_o creature_n at_o all_o as_o it_o be_v a_o creature_n be_v nothing_o if_o it_o be_v compare_v to_o that_o eternal_a good_a again_o forsake_v all_o desire_n and_o choice_n they_o do_v commit_v and_o refer_v themselves_o and_o all_o their_o action_n to_o the_o eternal_a good_a then_o there_o remain_v in_o they_o a_o desire_n to_o advance_v and_o bring_v themselves_o near_a to_o the_o eternal_a good_a that_o be_v to_o a_o near_a knowledge_n and_o more_o ardent_a love_n and_o a_o more_o ready_a submission_n and_o to_o a_o entire_a subjection_n and_o obedience_n so_o that_o every_o illuminate_v man_n may_v be_v able_a to_o say_v of_o this_o manner_n i_o can_v wish_v i_o be_v the_o same_o to_o the_o eternal_a good_a that_o a_o man_n hand_n be_v to_o himself_o and_o such_o man_n do_v always_o fear_v that_o they_o be_v not_o become_v sufficient_o subject_a unto_o it_o they_o do_v also_o desire_v the_o salvation_n of_o all_o man_n and_o yet_o be_v they_o free_a from_o this_o desire_n neither_o do_v they_o challenge_v it_o to_o themselves_o as_o understand_v sufficient_o that_o this_o desire_n belong_v not_o to_o man_n but_o to_o the_o eternal_a good_a for_o whatsoever_o be_v good_a that_o no_o man_n ought_v to_o arrogate_v to_o himself_o because_o it_o belong_v to_o the_o eternal_a good_a beside_o these_o kind_n of_o man_n live_v in_o freedom_n so_o that_o without_o fear_n either_o of_o punishment_n or_o hell_n or_o hope_v of_o reward_n or_o of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n they_o do_v live_v in_o mere_a subjection_n and_o obedience_n of_o the_o eternal_a good_a and_o that_o with_o a_o free_a love_n this_o be_v perfect_o in_o christ_n and_o be_v in_o his_o follower_n in_o some_o more_o in_o some_o less_o it_o be_v a_o miserable_a thing_n that_o whereas_o the_o eternal_a good_a do_v furnish_v and_o stir_v we_o up_o to_o that_o which_o be_v most_o excellent_a we_o be_v unwilling_a to_o entertain_v it_o for_o what_o be_v more_o excellent_a than_o true_a spiritual_a poverty_n and_o yet_o when_o it_o be_v set_v before_o we_o we_o will_v none_o of_o it_o we_o will_v be_v as_o i_o may_v so_o speak_v over-wy_o so_o that_o if_o we_o but_o feel_v a_o delicate_a taste_n sweetness_n and_o pleasure_n in_o ourselves_o we_o think_v it_o be_v well_o with_o we_o and_o that_o we_o love_v god_n but_o if_o this_o be_v want_v we_o be_v in_o sorrow_n and_o do_v forget_v god_n and_o think_v we_o be_v undo_v which_o be_v a_o great_a fault_n &_o a_o ill_a sign_n for_o a_o true_a lover_n do_v as_o much_o love_n god_n and_o the_o eternal_a good_a in_o want_v as_o in_o plenty_n &_o alike_o in_o bitterness_n as_o in_o pleasure_n and_o so_o in_o the_o rest_n let_v every_o man_n examine_v himself_o in_o these_o thing_n chap._n xi_o of_o hell_n and_o of_o the_o kingdom_n of_o heaven_n the_o soul_n of_o christ_n be_v to_o descend_v into_o hell_n way_n to_o turn_v he_o wherefore_o he_o ought_v never_o to_o let_v these_o two_o thing_n go_v out_o of_o his_o mind_n chap._n xii_o of_o true_a peace_n many_o say_v that_o they_o can_v have_v no_o help_v or_o further_a man_n to_o this_o matter_n that_o can_v neither_o word_n work_n nor_o other_o ceremony_n do_v nor_o final_o any_o creature_n nor_o the_o work_n power_n knowledge_n action_n or_o outward_a man_n may_v say_v yea_o and_o say_v true_o i_o neither_o will_v be_v nor_o will_v not_o be_v neither_o live_v nor_o die_v neither_o know_v nor_o be_v ignorant_a neither_o do_v nor_o leave_v the_o devil_n also_o be_v above_o all_o those_o but_o after_o a_o diverse_a manner_n christ_n be_v and_o be_v above_o all_o these_o thing_n if_o you_o thus_o understand_v it_o all_o word_n deed_n ceremony_n action_n and_o omission_n of_o action_n silence_n speech_n suffer_v and_o whatsoever_o happen_v to_o christ_n be_v not_o necessary_a to_o he_o neither_o do_v he_o stand_v in_o need_n of_o better_a for_o be_v so_o understand_v therefore_o what_o religion_n be_v religion_n be_v when_o it_o be_v acknowledge_v that_o man_n be_v averse_a or_o divert_v from_o god_n by_o his_o own_o will_v only_o not_o entertain_v nor_o commit_v sin_n but_o also_o make_v he_o to_o hate_v it_o in_o all_o man_n yea_o he_o do_v so_o far_o love_v virtue_n that_o he_o can_v be_v at_o rest_n except_o he_o do_v exercise_n or_o enjoy_v it_o as_o much_o as_o he_o may_v and_o that_o for_o no_o other_o cause_n but_o for_o that_o he_o love_v virtue_n and_o virtue_n itself_o be_v a_o reward_n to_o he_o with_o enjoy_v of_o which_o he_o rest_v so_o well_o content_v as_o that_o he_o will_v not_o exchange_v

nature_n as_o it_o be_v nature_n neither_o can_v nature_n as_o it_o be_v nature_n know_v or_o perform_v any_o other_o love_n then_o this_o for_o if_o any_o one_o be_v able_a to_o perceive_v this_o nature_n as_o it_o be_v nature_n love_v nothing_o but_o itself_o by_o this_o mean_v something_o be_v acknowledge_v to_o be_v good_a and_o not_o love_v but_o the_o true_a love_n be_v teach_v and_o direct_v by_o the_o true_a light_n and_o knowledge_n and_o the_o true_a eternal_a and_o divine_a light_n teach_v love_n to_o love_v nothing_o else_o but_o the_o true_a simple_a and_o perfect_a good_a and_o that_o for_o no_o other_o cause_n but_o for_o good_a not_o that_o it_o desire_v to_o have_v this_o or_o that_o or_o any_o thing_n from_o it_o by_o way_n of_o reward_n but_o only_o for_o the_o
