notwithstanding_o provide_v by_o god_n to_o secure_v his_o people_n of_o their_o christianity_n together_o with_o the_o unity_n of_o the_o church_n but_o the_o suffrage_n of_o the_o people_n of_o reverence_n between_o the_o clergy_n and_o the_o people_n in_o the_o recovery_n whereof_o the_o unity_n of_o the_o church_n consist_v and_o suppose_v public_a penance_n retrive_v without_o which_o it_o be_v in_o vain_a to_o pretend_v reformation_n in_o the_o church_n there_o can_v be_v no_o strong_a mean_n to_o maintain_v christianity_n in_o effect_n than_o the_o satisfaction_n of_o the_o people_n though_o not_o in_o the_o measure_n of_o penance_n to_o be_v enjoin_v yet_o in_o the_o perform_n of_o it_o always_o provide_v that_o this_o interest_n of_o the_o people_n be_v ground_v upon_o no_o other_o presumption_n that_o any_o man_n be_v the_o child_n of_o god_n or_o in_o the_o state_n of_o grace_n and_o endow_v with_o god_n spirit_n then_o that_o which_o the_o law_n of_o the_o church_n whereby_o he_o enjoy_v communion_n which_o the_o church_n creat_v for_o this_o presumption_n must_v needs_o be_v strong_a concern_v the_o clergy_n by_o their_o estate_n than_o it_o can_v be_v concern_v the_o people_n because_o by_o their_o estate_n they_o be_v to_o be_v the_o choice_n of_o the_o people_n and_o though_o as_o all_o moral_a quality_n be_v subject_a to_o many_o exception_n some_o of_o the_o people_n may_v be_v better_a christian_n then_o some_o of_o the_o clergy_n yet_o a_o legal_a presumption_n that_o any_o of_o they_o be_v so_o must_v needs_o be_v destructive_a to_o the_o unity_n of_o the_o church_n but_o no_o disorder_n in_o religion_n can_v be_v so_o great_a as_o to_o justify_v the_o obdurate_a resolution_n of_o the_o church_n of_o rome_n to_o withdraw_v the_o scripture_n from_o the_o people_n there_o be_v nothing_o more_o manifest_a then_o that_o the_o lamentable_a distraction_n which_o we_o be_v under_o have_v proceed_v from_o the_o presumption_n of_o particular_a christian_n up_o on_o their_o understanding_n in_o the_o scripture_n proceed_v to_o think_v their_o quality_n capable_a of_o reform_v the_o church_n only_o those_o that_o can_v have_v joy_n of_o so_o much_o mischief_n to_o our_o common_a christianity_n can_v think_v otherwise_o but_o i_o be_o not_o therefore_o induce_v to_o think_v our_o christianity_n any_o other_o then_o the_o christianity_n of_o those_o who_o our_o lord_n who_o s._n paul_n and_o other_o apostle_n and_o prophet_n exhort_v and_o encourage_v to_o the_o study_n of_o the_o scripture_n who_o s._n chrysostome_n and_o other_o of_o the_o father_n so_o earnest_o deal_v with_o to_o make_v it_o their_o business_n all_o the_o offence_n consist_v in_o this_o that_o private_a christian_n observe_v not_o the_o bound_n of_o that_o which_o be_v catholic_a when_o they_o come_v to_o read_v the_o scripture_n for_o if_o they_o be_v not_o content_a to_o confine_v the_o sense_n of_o all_o they_o read_v within_o church_n as_o i_o have_v show_v it_o be_v than_o be_v the_o scripture_n never_o give_v private_a christian_n to_o make_v they_o judge_n what_o all_o christian_n be_v bind_v to_o believe_v what_o the_o church_n be_v to_o enjoin_v the_o church_n for_o the_o condition_n of_o communion_n with_o the_o church_n if_o any_o man_n object_n the_o inconvenience_n that_o it_o appear_v not_o who_o or_o where_o that_o church_n be_v and_o so_o we_o be_v confine_v to_o those_o bound_n that_o can_v appear_v this_o inconvenince_n be_v the_o clear_a evidence_n that_o i_o can_v produce_v for_o the_o catholic_a church_n for_o unless_o we_o grant_v this_o inconvenience_n to_o come_v by_o god_n institution_n and_o appointment_n we_o must_v confess_v the_o unity_n of_o the_o church_n to_o be_v god_n appointment_n because_o the_o dissolution_n thereof_o produce_v this_o inconvenience_n for_o be_v the_o unity_n of_o the_o church_n in_o be_v i_o can_v easy_o send_v any_o man_n to_o the_o catholic_a church_n by_o send_v he_o to_o his_o own_o church_n which_o by_o hold_v communion_n with_o the_o whole_a church_n must_v needs_o stand_v distinguish_v from_o those_o which_o hold_v it_o not_o though_o it_o be_v wherein_o the_o whole_a church_n agree_v as_o the_o condition_n for_o comunion_n with_o it_o but_o the_o mean_n to_o make_v it_o appear_v again_o have_v disappear_v through_o disunion_n in_o the_o church_n be_v that_o discourse_n of_o reason_n which_o proceed_v upon_o supposition_n of_o visible_a unity_n establish_v by_o god_n in_o the_o church_n and_o the_o mean_n to_o make_v it_o appear_v again_o to_o common_a sense_n be_v the_o restore_n of_o that_o unity_n in_o the_o church_n by_o the_o interruption_n whereof_o it_o disappear_v then_o shall_v the_o edification_n of_o particular_a christian_n in_o our_o common_a christianity_n proceed_v without_o interruption_n by_o mean_n of_o the_o scripture_n every_o one_o suppose_v that_o his_o edification_n in_o the_o common_a remain_v that_o offence_n proceed_v to_o be_v infinite_a and_o endless_a because_o man_n give_v no_o bound_n to_o their_o study_n in_o the_o scripture_n imagine_v the_o edification_n of_o the_o church_n to_o consist_v in_o that_o wherein_o themselves_o not_o regard_v the_o consent_n of_o the_o church_n have_v place_v their_o own_o edification_n in_o the_o scripture_n chap._n xxxii_o how_o set_v aside_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o council_n of_o nicaea_n and_o affirm_v that_o former_a general_n council_n may_v be_v correct_v by_o late_a without_o answer_n as_o also_o the_o say_n of_o they_o who_o affirm_v the_o faith_n which_o our_o lord_n have_v teach_v to_o be_v the_o rock_n upon_o which_o the_o church_n be_v build_v for_o if_o no_o building_n can_v lay_v that_o foundation_n apostle_n deliver_v to_o the_o church_n and_o that_o this_o evidence_n be_v the_o ground_n whereon_o particular_a person_n be_v to_o rest_n that_o whatsoever_o be_v so_o evidence_v be_v indeed_o so_o deliver_v by_o the_o apostle_n yet_o both_o these_o agree_v in_o one_o and_o the_o same_o reason_n of_o believe_v both_o of_o they_o allege_v the_o tradition_n of_o the_o apostle_n to_o the_o church_n for_o the_o ground_n of_o their_o faith_n but_o this_o be_v more_o than_o any_o man_n of_o reason_n can_v believe_v unless_o we_o allow_v he_o that_o affirm_v contradictory_n to_o ground_n himself_o upon_o one_o part_n of_o the_o contradiction_n which_o the_o other_o part_n of_o it_o destroy_v for_o see_v that_o there_o must_v be_v but_o one_o reason_n one_o ground_n upon_o which_o we_o believe_v authority_n of_o the_o church_n determine_v that_o it_o be_v hold_v for_o such_o on_o the_o other_o side_n he_o that_o allow_v tradition_n to_o be_v the_o reason_n why_o he_o believe_v the_o christian_a faith_n necessary_o allow_v all_o that_o he_o allow_v to_o be_v matter_n of_o faith_n not_o only_o to_o be_v true_a but_o to_o be_v matter_n of_o faith_n before_o ever_o the_o church_n determine_v it_o so_o that_o allow_v he_o to_o say_v that_o he_o hold_v his_o faith_n by_o tradition_n he_o must_v allow_v i_o that_o he_o contradict_v himself_o whensoever_o he_o take_v upon_o he_o to_o maintain_v that_o the_o church_n create_v new_a article_n of_o faith_n which_o be_v not_o so_o the_o instant_n before_o the_o determination_n of_o the_o church_n chap._n xxxii_o answer_v to_o a_o objection_n that_o choice_n of_o religion_n become_v difficult_a upon_o these_o term_n this_o resolution_n be_v for_o the_o interest_n of_o the_o reformation_n those_o that_o make_v the_o church_n infallible_a can_v those_o that_o make_v the_o scripture_n clear_a and_o sufficient_a may_v own_o tradition_n for_o evidence_n to_o determine_v the_o meaning_n of_o the_o scripture_n and_o controversy_n of_o faith_n the_o interest_n of_o the_o church_n of_o england_n the_o pretence_n of_o rushworthe_n dialogue_n that_o we_o have_v no_o unquestionable_a scripture_n and_o that_o the_o tradition_n of_o the_o church_n never_o change_v as_o little_a shall_v i_o need_v to_o be_v trouble_v at_o any_o reason_n that_o may_v be_v frame_v against_o this_o resolution_n have_v answer_v the_o prejudice_n that_o seem_v to_o sway_v most_o man_n to_o apprehend_v that_o god_n must_v have_v be_v want_v to_o his_o church_n if_o all_o thing_n necessary_a to_o salvation_n be_v not_o clear_o lay_v down_o in_o the_o scripture_n for_o it_o be_v very_o manifest_a that_o the_o very_a same_o presumption_n possess_v the_o mind_n of_o the_o adverse_a party_n that_o god_n must_v needs_o have_v provide_v a_o visible_a judge_n infallible_a in_o decide_v all_o controversy_n of_o faith_n whether_o the_o church_n or_o any_o person_n or_o person_n authorize_v in_o behalf_n of_o the_o church_n for_o the_o present_a all_o be_v one_o i_o shall_v therefore_o only_o demand_v that_o it_o be_v consider_v first_o that_o god_n be_v no_o way_n tie_v either_o to_o send_v our_o lord_n christ_n or_o to_o give_v his_o gospel_n which_o because_o it_o come_v of_o god_n free_a grace_n be_v therefore_o call_v the_o word_n of_o his_o grace_n and_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n then_o that_o he_o have_v
