a_o declaration_n of_o the_o knight_n gentleman_n and_o freeholder_n of_o the_o county_n of_o surrey_n concern_v their_o late_a petition_n and_o the_o slaughter_n and_o imprisonment_n of_o several_a of_o their_o countryman_n with_o their_o resolution_n thereupon_o publish_a for_o the_o information_n of_o the_o kingdom_n may_v 18_o print_v in_o the_o year_n 1648._o a_o declaration_n of_o the_o county_n of_o surrey_n as_o we_o conceive_v it_o the_o freedom_n of_o every_o englishman_n to_o petition_v the_o supreme_a authority_n of_o the_o kingdom_n for_o redress_v of_o grievance_n nay_o for_o the_o removal_n of_o thing_n establish_v by_o law_n so_o we_o must_v acknowledge_v it_o to_o be_v our_o duty_n to_o rest_v satisfy_v in_o the_o judgement_n of_o parliament_n after_o the_o final_a determination_n thereof_o till_o another_o parliament_n can_v be_v call_v which_o may_v be_v in_o a_o capacity_n to_o grant_v what_o by_o the_o present_n be_v deny_v the_o consideration_n hereof_o do_v induce_v we_o to_o make_v a_o essay_n to_o obtain_v such_o thing_n as_o in_o our_o present_a apprehension_n do_v appear_v the_o most_o conducible_a to_o the_o peace_n of_o the_o kingdom_n in_o order_n whereunto_o we_o desire_v in_o that_o our_o petition_n that_o the_o king_n may_v be_v restore_v never_o intend_v in_o the_o general_n that_o he_o shall_v be_v bring_v in_o without_o satisfaction_n and_o security_n first_o give_v to_o the_o kingdom_n for_o we_o know_v well_o although_o the_o stream_n of_o many_o of_o our_o countrymens_n affection_n run_v strong_o towards_o the_o bring_n in_o of_o the_o king_n upon_o any_o term_n nay_o without_o any_o condition_n yet_o shall_v it_o be_v so_o the_o kingdom_n must_v of_o necessity_n be_v miserable_o enslave_v for_o the_o king_n must_v by_o the_o ruin_n of_o his_o opposer_n advance_v those_o that_o have_v side_v with_o he_o and_o have_v suffer_v by_o he_o and_o what_o discontent_v and_o commotion_n that_o will_v produce_v we_o that_o have_v faithful_o serve_v the_o par._n be_v not_o a_o little_a sensible_a off_o we_o confess_v many_o of_o the_o king_n party_n join_v with_o we_o in_o our_o desire_n and_o seem_v to_o concur_v with_o we_o in_o our_o end_n and_o intention_n but_o by_o their_o deportment_n then_o and_o since_o in_o appear_v they_o only_o make_v use_v of_o that_o pretence_n of_o petition_v to_o discover_v their_o opposer●_n and_o to_o exasperate_v as_o many_o as_o they_o can_v thereby_o to_o draw_v they_o to_o a_o engagement_n one_o against_o another_o that_o by_o such_o a_o confusion_n they_o may_v the_o easy_o accomplish_v their_o design_n of_o restore_v the_o king_n to_o a_o unlimited_a power_n and_o enslave_v all_o the_o well-affected_a party_n in_o the_o kingdom_n we_o can_v not_o but_o take_v notice_n of_o the_o threaten_a word_n which_o they_o give_v out_o against_o the_o kingdom_n best_o friend_n and_o what_o provocation_n they_o put_v upon_o the_o soldiery_n on_o purpose_n to_o pick_v a_o quarrel_n with_o they_o and_o at_o that_o time_n though_o our_o hand_n be_v to_o the_o petition_n and_o we_o present_v yet_o our_o soul_n abhor_v such_o their_o deboist_a behaviour_n we_o can_v but_o testify_v our_o dislike_n of_o their_o abuse_v the_o soldier_n and_o endeavour_v to_o force_v the_o parliament_n and_o also_o that_o the_o soldier_n shall_v in_o such_o a_o violent_a manner_n assault_v all_o man_n and_o so_o barbarous_o kill_v wound_n and_o plunder_v all_o man_n whether_o friend_n or_o foe_n without_o exception_n we_o can_v but_o declare_v unto_o all_o our_o countryman_n who_o desire_v the_o peace_n of_o the_o kingdom_n that_o for_o the_o future_a we_o shall_v not_o presume_v to_o trouble_v the_o parliament_n with_o any_o more_o petition_n we_o be_v now_o convince_v of_o this_o truth_n viz._n that_o it_o be_v much_o below_o the_o people_n of_o england_n to_o petition_v their_o trustee_n and_o therefore_o in_o pursuance_n of_o future_a safety_n we_o shall_v desire_v our_o countryman_n to_o engage_v with_o we_o in_o these_o follow_a particular_n 1._o that_o if_o it_o shall_v be_v adjudge_v necessary_a to_o bring_v in_o the_o king_n that_o sufficient_a satisfaction_n and_o security_n be_v first_o give_v to_o the_o kingdom_n and_o that_o his_o power_n for_o the_o future_a be_v limit_v and_o declare_v 2._o that_o a_o period_n be_v set_v to_o this_o parliament_n 3._o that_o the_o charge_n of_o the_o army_n be_v due_o compute_v and_o a_o equal_a tax_n lay_v upon_o all_o land_n for_o the_o payment_n thereof_o we_o be_v resolve_v not_o to_o suffer_v freequarter_n any_o long_o and_o that_o so_o soon_o as_o the_o occasion_n of_o the_o kingdom_n will_v permit_v the_o army_n be_v disband_v 4._o that_o no_o man_n be_v continue_v in_o power_n among_o we_o but_o such_o as_o shall_v have_v appear_v faithful_a to_o the_o kingdom_n in_o the_o late_a war._n 5._o that_o we_o may_v associate_v ourselves_o together_o as_o one_o man_n to_o stand_v up_o for_o the_o defence_n of_o one_o another_o till_o these_o our_o just_a desire_n be_v accomplish_v and_o we_o further_o declare_v that_o we_o shall_v not_o rest_v satisfy_v or_o cease_v the_o prosecution_n of_o these_o end_n neither_o shall_v we_o think_v our_o trustee_n in_o parliament_n have_v discharge_v their_o duty_n unless_o they_o appear_v effectual_o in_o the_o prosecution_n thereof_o that_o we_o may_v be_v reduce_v to_o a_o certainty_n either_o by_o a_o settlement_n of_o the_o kingdom_n with_o or_o without_o the_o king_n by_o a_o ease_n of_o our_o heavy_a pressure_n by_o a_o increase_n of_o trade_n and_o by_o the_o due_a execution_n of_o justice_n in_o the_o performance_n whereof_o the_o kingdom_n may_v expect_v a_o return_n of_o peace_n and_o plenty_n and_o we_o further_o add_v that_o it_o be_v our_o sense_n that_o those_o family_n which_o be_v destroy_v by_o the_o late_a slaughter_n of_o their_o friend_n at_o westminster_n ought_v to_o be_v take_v care_n of_o for_o without_o mercy_n there_o be_v no_o justice_n and_o last_o we_o be_v resolve_v that_o in_o pursuance_n of_o the_o forementioned_a end_n to_o use_v our_o utmost_a endeavour_n and_o in_o order_n thereunto_o shall_v put_v ourselves_o into_o a_o posture_n of_o defence_n so_o that_o as_o it_o be_v not_o in_o our_o thought_n to_o offer_v violence_n to_o any_o that_o shall_v continue_v peaceable_a so_o it_o shall_v not_o be_v in_o the_o power_n either_o of_o the_o king_n parliament_z or_o army_n to_o destroy_v we_o at_o pleasure_n either_o by_o committee_n tax_n free_a quarter_n as_o former_o neither_o shall_v we_o deny_v obedience_n to_o any_o just_a command_v of_o parliament_n only_o shall_v act_v as_o person_n necessitate_v to_o seek_v security_n the_o parliament_n have_v declare_v unto_o we_o that_o a_o kingdom_n must_v not_o be_v leave_v without_o a_o mean_n to_o preserve_v itself_o sign_v by_o j._n segmour_n by_o consent_n and_o in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o whole_a gilford_n may_v 18._o 1648._o finis_fw-la
