and_o the_o jew_n who_o yet_o reject_v he_o child_n mat._n 15.26_o so_o many_o may_v be_v external_o child_n in_o respect_n of_o external_a covenant_n and_o yet_o internal_o dog_n and_o evil_a man_n and_o we_o see_v that_o the_o pure_a church_n of_o christ_n be_v call_v saint_n and_o faithful_a &_o child_n of_o god_n and_o yet_o many_o among_o they_o hypocrite_n and_o unbeliever_n because_o they_o that_o in_o respect_n of_o church_n estate_n and_o outward_a covenant_n and_o profession_n be_v outward_o or_o federal_o saint_n be_v many_o time_n inward_o and_o real_o unsound_a hence_o therefore_o it_o be_v that_o when_o we_o say_v that_o child_n be_v in_o covenant_n and_o so_o church-member_n the_o meaning_n be_v not_o that_o they_o be_v always_o in_o inward_a covenant_n and_o inward_a church-member_n who_o enjoy_v the_o inward_a and_o save_a benefit_n of_o the_o covenant_n but_o that_o they_o be_v in_o external_a and_o outward_a covenant_n and_o therefore_o outward_o church_n member_n to_o who_o belong_v some_o outward_a privilege_n of_o the_o covenant_n for_o their_o inward_a and_o eternal_a good_a these_o thing_n be_v clear_a i_o the_o rather_o make_v mention_n of_o they_o to_o undermine_v divers_a usual_a objection_n againt_v the_o membership_n and_o covenant-interest_n of_o child_n as_o that_o they_o have_v no_o save_a grace_n many_o time_n and_o that_o they_o make_v no_o actual_a profession_n of_o any_o grace_n and_o that_o many_o of_o they_o degenerate_a and_o prove_v corrupt_a and_o wicked_a etc._n etc._n for_o suppose_v all_o these_o yet_o god_n may_v take_v they_o into_o outward_a covenant_n which_o be_v sufficient_a to_o make_v they_o the_o church-seed_n or_o member_n of_o the_o church_n although_o he_o do_v not_o receive_v they_o into_o inward_a covenant_n in_o bestow_v upon_o they_o save_v grace_n or_o power_n to_o profess_v it_o nay_o though_o they_o degenerate_a and_o grow_v very_o corrupt_a afterward_o 3._o because_o you_o may_v question_v what_o this_o outward_a covenant_n be_v to_o which_o the_o seal_n be_v annex_v and_o under_o which_o we_o shall_v prove_v child_n be_v comprehend_v and_o because_o the_o knowledge_n of_o it_o be_v exceed_o useful_a and_o very_a pleasant_a i_o shall_v therefore_o give_v a_o short_a taste_n of_o it_o as_o a_o light_n to_o
see_v be_v in_o some_o respect_n absolute_a and_o if_o the_o covenant_n be_v only_o conditional_a than_o the_o lord_n be_v no_o more_o in_o covenant_n with_o church-member_n than_o with_o pagan_n and_o infidel_n for_o it_o may_v be_v propound_v conditional_o to_o all_o such_o that_o if_o they_o believe_v they_o shall_v be_v save_v but_o assure_o god_n grace_n be_v a_o little_a more_o extensive_a to_o the_o one_o then_o to_o the_o other_o 3_o hence_o you_o may_v see_v what_o circumcision_n once_o do_v and_o baptism_n now_o seal_n unto_o even_o to_o infant_n the_o seal_n be_v to_o kingdom_n and_o that_o here_o upon_o he_o will_v prune_v and_o cut_v and_o dress_v and_o water_v they_o and_o improve_v the_o mean_n of_o their_o eternal_a good_a upon_o they_o which_o good_a they_o shall_v have_v unless_o they_o refuse_v in_o resist_v the_o mean_n nay_o that_o he_o will_v take_v away_o this_o refuse_v heart_n from_o among_o they_o indefinite_o so_o that_o though_o every_o one_o can_v assure_v himself_o that_o he_o will_v do_v it_o particular_o for_o this_o or_o that_o person_n yet_o every_o one_o through_o this_o promise_n may_v hope_v and_o pray_v for_o the_o to_o the_o first_o the_o truth_n of_o it_o be_v manifest_a by_o clear_v up_o this_o proposition_n viz_o 1._o that_o one_o and_o the_o same_o covenant_n which_o be_v make_v to_o abraham_n in_o the_o old_a testament_n be_v for_o substance_n the_o same_o with_o that_o in_o the_o new_a and_o this_o under_o the_o new-testament_n the_o very_a same_o with_o that_o of_o abraham_n under_o the_o old_a i_o say_v for_o substance_n the_o same_o for_o it_o be_v acknowledge_v that_o there_o be_v something_o proper_a and_o personal_a in_o abraham_n covenant_n as_o to_o be_v a_o father_n of_o many_o nation_n but_o this_o be_v not_o of_o the_o substance_n of_o the_o covenant_n which_o belong_v to_o all_o the_o covenanter_n and_o unto_o which_o the_o seal_n of_o circumcision_n be_v set_v for_o all_o abraham_n seed_n neither_o in_o those_o nor_o these_o day_n be_v the_o father_n of_o many_o nation_n nor_o do_v circumcision_n seal_v it_o again_o it_o be_v confess_v that_o the_o external_a administration_n of_o this_o one_o &_o the_o same_o covenant_n be_v diverse_a but_o still_o the_o covenant_n for_o substance_n be_v the_o same_o for_o that_o old_a covenant_n be_v dispense_v with_o other_o external_a sign_n sacrifice_n type_n prophecy_n than_o this_o under_o the_o new_a there_o be_v something_o typical_a in_o abraham_n covenant_n concern_v canaan_n a_o type_n of_o heaven_n but_o if_o the_o substance_n of_o that_o covenant_n be_v i_o will_v be_v a_o god_n to_o thou_o and_o thy_o seed_n than_o this_o very_a covenant_n remaine_n still_o under_o the_o gospel_n it_o be_v one_o rom._n 11._o wherein_o it_o be_v say_v of_o the_o jew_n 1._o that_o they_o be_v break_v off_o make_v no_o people_n no_o church_n by_o unbelief_n verse_n 20._o 2._o that_o by_o faith_n they_o shall_v be_v graff_v in_o again_o verse_n 23._o if_o therefore_o they_o be_v break_v off_o the_o church_n by_o unbelief_n than_o they_o stand_v as_o member_n of_o the_o church_n by_o faith_n and_o if_o by_o faith_n they_o shall_v be_v graff_v in_o than_o they_o stand_v by_o faith_n at_o first_o again_o it_o be_v say_v in_o this_o rome_n 11.28_o that_o they_o be_v love_v for_o the_o father_n sake_n sure_o not_o as_o natural_a father_n but_o as_o spiritual_a by_o faith_n and_o hence_o nehem._n 9.8_o it_o be_v express_o say_v that_o god_n find_v abraham_n faithful_a before_o he_o and_o make_v a_o what_o profit_n be_v there_o of_o circumcision_n what_o use_n or_o profit_n can_v the_o infant_n than_o make_v of_o their_o church-covenant_n membership_n or_o seal_v who_o understand_v none_o of_o these_o thing_n do_v you_o think_v the_o lord_n expose_v his_o holy_a ordinance_n then_o unto_o contempt_n and_o be_v more_o careful_a that_o they_o may_v be_v profitable_o use_v now_o be_v there_o no_o good_a by_o circumcision_n yea_o say_v the_o apostle_n much_o every_o way_n 2._o what_o profit_n be_v it_o to_o person_n grow_v up_o to_o year_n and_o yet_o secret_o hypocrite_n who_o enter_v into_o the_o church_n by_o profession_n of_o the_o faith_n you_o will_v say_v there_o be_v good_a and_o profit_n in_o respect_n of_o the_o privilege_n themselves_o but_o they_o abuse_v they_o they_o have_v in_o this_o respect_n better_a have_v be_v without_o they_o because_o they_o bring_v hereby_o upon_o themselves_o great_a condemnation_n the_o same_o say_v i_o of_o child_n who_o god_n receive_v into_o his_o church_n by_o promise_n and_o covenant_n of_o do_v they_o good_a although_o at_o present_a they_o may_v not_o be_v so_o sensible_a of_o this_o good_a 3._o to_o speak_v plain_o the_o good_a they_o get_v by_o be_v thus_o enrich_v be_v wonderful_a and_o here_o there_o be_v more_o need_n of_o a_o treatise_n then_o of_o a_o lâ—tter_n to_o clear_v up_o the_o benefit_n from_o of_o his_o grace_n towards_o they_o in_o take_v they_o to_o be_v his_o people_n in_o adopt_v they_o to_o be_v his_o child_n in_o prevent_v they_o with_o many_o special_a promise_n aforehand_o of_o do_v they_o good_a by_o all_o which_o the_o lord_n do_v as_o it_o be_v prevent_v satan_n in_o woo_v their_o heart_n as_o it_o be_v so_o soon_o to_o draw_v they_o to_o he_o before_o he_o can_v actual_o stir_v to_o draw_v their_o soul_n from_o he_o so_o that_o i_o beseech_v you_o consider_v suppose_v they_o can_v as_o yet_o understand_v and_o so_o make_v profit_n by_o all_o this_o yet_o be_v it_o not_o good_a for_o they_o or_o for_o any_o of_o we_o to_o partake_v of_o god_n grace_n before_o we_o know_v how_o to_o make_v use_n of_o it_o be_v it_o not_o good_a for_o god_n to_o be_v good_a to_o
