command_v they_o to_o baptize_v all_o in_o the_o name_n of_o the_o father_n and_o of_o the_o son_n and_o of_o the_o holy_a ghost_n this_o be_v in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n and_o to_o receive_v they_o into_o the_o church_n in_o the_o name_n of_o christ_n which_o be_v by_o a_o public_a solemn_a dedication_n of_o they_o to_o god_n in_o baptism_n act._n 2_o 38._o but_o whosâ—_n shall_v offend_v one_o of_o these_o little_a one_o which_o believe_v in_o i_o it_o be_v better_o for_o he_o that_o a_o millstone_n be_v hang_v about_o his_o neck_n and_o that_o he_o be_v drown_v in_o the_o depth_n allove_a for_o though_o they_o be_v not_o personal_o capable_a of_o take_v offence_n yet_o christ_n himself_o be_v fâ—r_v as_o those_o that_o receive_v they_o into_o the_o church_n in_o christ_n name_n by_o baptism_n receive_v christ_n himself_o even_o so_o all_o these_o that_o offend_v they_o offend_v christ_n himself_o even_o as_o those_o that_o persecute_v his_o people_n persecute_v christ_n himself_o because_o by_o their_o not_o receive_v they_o into_o the_o church_n in_o christ_n name_n they_o shut_v christ_n himself_o out_o of_o the_o church_n therefore_o christ_n must_n the_o same_o time_n deny_v they_o one_o of_o the_o lesser_a 4._o mr._n d._n have_v public_o own_v and_o declare_v that_o elect_a die_a infant_n shall_v be_v save_v which_o i_o own_o to_o be_v true_a and_o if_o die_a infant_n be_v elect_v then_o be_v they_o heir_n of_o salvation_n and_o if_o they_o be_v heir_n of_o salvation_n then_o be_v they_o under_o the_o conduct_n and_o ministry_n of_o the_o holy_a and_o bless_a angel_n and_o do_v share_v as_o much_o in_o their_o ministry_n as_o any_o of_o the_o
no_o saint_n of_o god_n ever_o be_v or_o ever_o will_v be_v justify_v neither_o for_o or_o by_o the_o act_n of_o faith_n and_o the_o reason_n be_v plain_a because_o that_o will_v be_v for_o a_o man_n to_o be_v justify_v by_o work_n which_o will_v destroy_v justification_n by_o faith_n in_o the_o righteousness_n of_o christ_n which_o be_v popery_n all_o over_o for_o there_o be_v no_o justification_n without_o the_o grace_n of_o faith_n though_o not_o for_o the_o act_n of_o that_o grace_n therefore_o it_o be_v all_o a_o pure_a design_n of_o prevent_a grace_n from_o the_o foundation_n to_o the_o top-stone_n of_o man_n salvation_n it_o be_v all_o grace_n grace_n pure_a prevent_a grace_n and_o therefore_o a_o elect_a die_a infant_n be_v as_o capable_a of_o justification_n regeneration_n adoption_n sanctification_n and_o eternal_a salvation_n as_o any_o adult_n person_n be_v whatsoever_o and_o thus_o i_o have_v prove_v that_o habitual_a faith_n be_v essential_o necessary_a for_o the_o salvation_n of_o die_a infant_n as_o well_o as_o adult_v believer_n none_o can_v be_v save_v without_o it_o for_o there_o can_v be_v no_o act_n of_o faith_n where_o there_o be_v not_o first_o habit_n of_o faith_n it_o be_v as_o impossible_a as_o it_o be_v for_o a_o tree_n to_o grow_v and_o bear_v fruit_n without_o a_o root_n 8._o say_v mr._n d._n in_o page_n 6._o it_o be_v to_o be_v wonder_v at_o how_o you_o come_v to_o stop_v at_o baptism_n and_o do_v not_o let_v child_n partake_v of_o the_o lords-supper_n etc._n etc._n mr._n d._n can_v see_v no_o reason_n why_o infant_n shall_v not_o be_v perfect_a member_n of_o the_o church_n visible_a if_o they_o be_v any_o at_o all_o to_o which_o i_o reply_v 1._o true_o it_o be_v to_o be_v wonder_v at_o that_o such_o a_o insipid_a argument_n shall_v be_v distil_v from_o the_o brain_n and_o drop_v from_o the_o pen_n of_o a_o person_n of_o such_o natural_a endowment_n as_o mr._n d._n be_v general_o take_v to_o be_v but_o such_o be_v the_o unsearchable_a wisdom_n of_o god_n to_o confound_v the_o wisdom_n of_o the_o wise_a and_o to_o entangle_v they_o in_o their_o own_o device_n that_o no_o flesh_n education_n by_o catechise_v and_o by_o daily_a prayer_n for_o they_o etc._n etc._n here_o be_v several_a thing_n worthy_a to_o come_v under_o our_o consideration_n from_o these_o premise_n aforesaid_a 1._o mr._n d._n assert_n and_o declare_v that_o their_o child_n have_v many_o of_o those_o we_o call_v outward_a privilege_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n as_o well_o as_o we_o but_o he_o will_v not_o allow_v they_o to_o be_v outward_a privilege_n etc._n etc._n but_o say_v that_o we_o call_v they_o so_o 2._o either_o they_o be_v privilege_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n or_o they_o be_v not_o and_o if_o they_o be_v not_o so_o than_o they_o be_v no_o privilege_n at_o all_o for_o they_o must_v be_v of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n they_o must_v be_v of_o grace_n or_o of_o work_n this_o be_v clear_a from_o the_o scripture_n in_o rom._n 11._o and_o if_o by_o grace_n than_o it_o be_v no_o more_o of_o work_n otherwise_o grace_n be_v no_o more_o grace_n but_o if_o it_o be_v of_o work_n than_o it_o be_v no_o more_o grace_n otherwise_o work_n be_v no_o more_o work_n therefore_o if_o those_o we_o call_v outward_a privilege_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n of_o which_o our_o opponent_n child_n partake_v of_o as_o well_o as_o we_o be_v not_o outward_a privilege_n of_o the_o covenant_n of_o grace_n than_o they_o be_v of_o the_o covenant_n of_o work_n which_o be_v no_o privilege_n at_o all_o thus_o to_o boast_v of_o 3._o this_o destroy_v that_o common_a and_o unclean_a nation_n of_o they_o viz._n that_o the_o child_n of_o turk_n and_o heathen_n have_v as_o much_o privilege_n as_o the_o child_n of_o christian_a believer_n for_o turk_n and_o heathen_n do_v not_o dedicate_v their_o child_n to_o god_n in_o christ_n as_o soon_o as_o bear_v which_o i_o take_v to_o be_v mr._n d_n meaning_n though_o he_o will_v not_o allow_v they_o one_o dram_n of_o habitual_a grace_n which_o render_v it_o whole_o invalid_a 4._o this_o dedication_n of_o their_o child_n as_o soon_o as_o bear_v and_o prayer_n for_o they_o must_v not_o pass_v without_o a_o strict_a examination_n for_o fear_v lest_o it_o shall_v prove_v to_o be_v but_o blear-eyed_a leah_n instead_o of_o beautiful_a rachel_n to_o use_v our_o author_n be_v own_o phrase_n therefore_o i_o will_v bring_v it_o into_o the_o balance_n of_o the_o sanctuary_n and_o try_v whether_o it_o be_v weight_n or_o not_o 1._o how_o can_v mr._n d._n dedicate_v his_o child_n to_o god_n in_o prayer_n for_o they_o as_o soon_o as_o bear_v see_v he_o will_v not_o allow_v they_o to_o be_v capable_a of_o receive_v the_o capable_a of_o receive_v the_o habit_n of_o grace_n which_o high_o reflect_v dishonour_n on_o the_o free_a grace_n of_o god_n and_o also_o the_o omnipotent_a power_n of_o god_n for_o unless_o they_o do_v pray_v for_o their_o die_a child_n or_o live_a either_o that_o they_o may_v be_v unite_v to_o christ_n and_o be_v beget_v and_o bear_v of_o god_n and_o justify_v by_o the_o righteousness_n and_o merit_n of_o christ_n and_o have_v their_o original_a sin_n subdue_v and_o their_o nature_n sanctify_a and_o change_v and_o the_o image_n of_o god_n impress_v upon_o they_o that_o they_o may_v be_v make_v meet_a to_o partake_v of_o the_o inheritance_n with_o the_o saint_n in_o light_n which_o must_v be_v by_o infuse_v grace_n into_o their_o soul_n all_o their_o prayer_n signify_v no_o more_o
