true_a penitent_n from_o trust_v in_o the_o mercy_n of_o god_n how_o late_o soever_o their_o repentance_n be_v for_o while_o we_o live_v in_o this_o world_n the_o door_n of_o grace_n and_o mercy_n be_v not_o shut_v against_o true_a penitent_n 3._o but_o yet_o the_o reason_n of_o lengthen_v the_o day_n of_o grace_n and_o mercy_n do_v not_o reach_v beyond_o this_o life_n this_o sufficient_o appear_v from_o what_o i_o have_v already_o say_v and_o for_o a_o further_a confirmation_n of_o it_o i_o shall_v add_v but_o this_o one_o comprehensive_a reason_n viz._n that_o the_o grace_n of_o the_o gospel_n be_v confine_v to_o the_o church_n on_o earth_n and_o therefore_o this_o life_n be_v the_o only_a time_n to_o obtain_v the_o remission_n of_o our_o sin_n and_o a_o title_n to_o future_a it_o in_o the_o next_o world_n these_o unite_v we_o to_o christ_n as_o member_n of_o his_o body_n and_o then_o the_o holy_a spirit_n which_o animate_v the_o body_n of_o christ_n take_v possession_n of_o we_o renew_v and_o sanctify_v we_o but_o if_o we_o prove_v dead_a and_o barren_a branch_n in_o this_o spiritual_a vine_n if_o the_o censure_n of_o the_o church_n do_v not_o cut_v we_o off_o infancy_n instruct_v in_o the_o christian_a religion_n from_o the_o very_a beginning_n and_o have_v always_o profess_v the_o faith_n of_o christ_n but_o live_v like_o pagan_n and_o infidel_n we_o be_v not_o call_v into_o the_o vineyard_n at_o the_o eleven_o hour_n but_o early_o in_o the_o morning_n and_o though_o man_n who_o be_v call_v at_o the_o last_o hour_n shall_v be_v reward_v for_o that_o enough_o indeed_o we_o can_v tell_v what_o alteration_n our_o put_v off_o these_o body_n will_v make_v in_o the_o temper_n and_o disposition_n of_o our_o mind_n we_o see_v that_o a_o long_a and_o severe_a fit_n of_o sickness_n while_o it_o last_v will_v make_v man_n absolute_a philosopher_n and_o give_v they_o a_o great_a contempt_n of_o bodily_a pleasure_n nay_o will_v make_v the_o very_a thought_n of_o those_o pleasure_n nauseous_a to_o they_o which_o they_o be_v very_o fond_a of_o in_o health_n long_o fast_v and_o abstinence_n and_o other_o bodily_a severity_n be_v a_o excellent_a mean_n to_o alter_v the_o habit_n and_o inclination_n of_o the_o mind_n and_o one_o will_v think_v that_o to_o be_v separate_v from_o these_o body_n must_v needs_o make_v a_o great_a alteration_n in_o our_o mind_n than_o either_o sickness_n or_o bodily_a severity_n that_o i_o dare_v not_o say_v that_o a_o sensual_a man_n when_o he_o be_v separate_v from_o this_o body_n shall_v feel_v the_o same_o sensual_a desire_n and_o inclination_n which_o he_o have_v in_o it_o and_o shall_v be_v torment_v with_o a_o violent_a thirst_n after_o those_o pleasure_n which_o he_o can_v enjoy_v in_o a_o separate_a state_n but_o this_o i_o dare_v say_v that_o a_o man_n who_o be_v whole_o sink_v into_o flesh_n and_o sense_n and_o relish_v no_o other_o pleasure_n be_v not_o capable_a of_o live_v happy_o out_o of_o this_o body_n unless_o you_o can_v find_v out_o a_o new_a scene_n of_o material_a and_o sensible_a pleasure_n to_o entertain_v he_o for_o though_o the_o particular_a appetite_n and_o inclination_n of_o the_o body_n may_v cease_v yet_o his_o very_a soul_n be_v sensualize_v and_o therefore_o be_v uncapable_a of_o the_o pleasure_n of_o a_o spiritual_a life_n for_o indeed_o set_v aside_o that_o mischief_n which_o the_o unruly_a lust_n and_o appetite_n of_o man_n and_o the_o immoderate_a use_n of_o bodily_a pleasure_n do_v either_o to_o the_o person_n themselves_o or_o to_o public_a society_n and_o the_o true_a reason_n why_o we_o must_v mortify_v our_o sensual_a inclination_n be_v to_o improve_v our_o mind_n in_o all_o divine_a grace_n for_o the_o flesh_n and_o the_o spirit_n can_v thrive_v together_o sensual_a and_o spiritual_a joy_n be_v so_o contrary_a to_o each_o other_o that_o which_o of_o they_o soever_o prevail_v according_a to_o the_o degree_n of_o its_o prevalence_n it_o stifle_v and_o and_o suppress_v or_o whole_o subdue_v the_o other_o a_o soul_n which_o be_v ravish_v with_o the_o love_n of_o god_n and_o the_o bless_a jesus_n transport_v with_o the_o spiritual_a hope_n of_o another_o life_n which_o feel_v the_o passion_n of_o devotion_n and_o be_v enamour_a with_o the_o glory_n and_o beauty_n of_o holiness_n and_o divine_a virtue_n must_v have_v such_o a_o very_a mean_a opinion_n of_o flesh_n and_o sense_n as_o will_v make_v it_o disgust_v bodily_a pleasure_n or_o be_v very_o indifferent_a about_o they_o and_o a_o soul_n which_o be_v under_o the_o government_n of_o sense_n and_o passion_n can_v taste_v those_o more_o intellectual_a and_o divine_a joy_n for_o it_o be_v our_o esteem_n of_o thing_n which_o give_v a_o relish_n to_o they_o and_o it_o be_v impossible_a we_o can_v high_o esteem_v one_o without_o depretiate_v and_o undervalue_v the_o other_o it_o be_v universal_o true_a in_o this_o case_n what_o our_o saviour_n tell_v we_o no_o man_n can_v serve_v two_o master_n for_o either_o he_o will_v hate_v the_o one_o and_o love_v the_o other_o or_o else_o he_o will_v hold_v to_o the_o one_o and_o despise_v the_o other_o you_o can_v serve_v god_n and_o mammon_n 6._o matth._n 24._o the_o least_o beginning_n of_o a_o divine_a nature_n in_o we_o be_v to_o love_n god_n above_o all_o the_o world_n and_o as_o we_o perfect_a conquest_n and_o mastery_n of_o they_o but_o he_o who_o be_v perfect_o devote_v to_o the_o pleasure_n of_o the_o body_n and_o the_o service_n of_o his_o lust_n have_v no_o spiritual_a life_n in_o he_o and_o though_o put_v off_o these_o body_n may_v cure_v our_o bodily_a appetite_n and_o passion_n yet_o it_o can_v give_v we_o a_o new_a principle_n of_o life_n nor_o work_v a_o essential_a change_n in_o a_o fleshly_a nature_n and_o therefore_o such_o a_o man_n when_o he_o be_v remove_v from_o this_o body_n and_o all_o the_o enjoyment_n of_o it_o be_v capable_a of_o no_o other_o happiness_n nay_o though_o we_o be_v renew_v by_o the_o divine_a spirit_n and_o have_v a_o principle_n of_o a_o new_a life_n in_o we_o yet_o according_a to_o the_o degree_n of_o our_o love_n to_o present_a thing_n so_o much_o the_o more_o indispose_v be_v we_o for_o the_o happiness_n of_o unbodied_a spirit_n and_o therefore_o since_o we_o must_v put_v off_o these_o body_n if_o we_o will_v live_v for_o ever_o happy_o without_o they_o we_o must_v begin_v betimes_o to_o shake_v off_o matter_n
