and_o successor_n for_o and_o towards_o the_o support_n of_o the_o government_n of_o this_o their_o province_n and_o the_o contingent_a charge_n thereof_o and_o the_o other_o moiety_n unto_o the_o informer_n or_o he_o that_o shall_v sue_v for_o the_o same_o in_o any_o court_n of_o record_n wherein_o no_o essoign_n protection_n or_o wager_n of_o law_n shall_v be_v allow_v and_o shall_v further_o pay_v unto_o the_o party_n grieve_v double_a the_o value_n of_o the_o excessive_a fee_n so_o take_v a_o act_n for_o ascertain_v the_o number_n and_o regulate_v the_o house_n of_o representatives_n whereas_o their_o majesty_n have_v be_v gracious_o please_v by_o their_o royal_a charter_n to_o grant_v power_n unto_o the_o great_a and_o general_a court_n or_o assembly_n of_o their_o province_n of_o the_o massachusetts-bay_n from_o time_n to_o time_n to_o direct_v appoint_v and_o declare_v what_o number_n of_o represensentative_n each_o county_n town_n or_o place_n shall_v elect_a and_o depute_v to_o serve_v for_o and_o represent_v they_o respective_o in_o the_o say_a assembly_n be_v it_o therefore_o enact_v and_o ordain_v by_o his_o excelleney_n the_o governor_n council_n and_o representative_n now_o in_o general_n court_n assemble_v and_o by_o the_o authority_n of_o the_o same_o that_o henceforth_o every_o town_n within_o this_o province_n consist_v of_o the_o number_n of_o forty_o freeholder_n and_o other_o inhabitant_n qualify_v by_o charter_n to_o elect_n shall_v and_o hereby_o be_v enjoin_v to_o choose_v and_o send_v one_o freeholder_n as_o their_o representative_a and_o every_o town_n consist_v of_o the_o number_n of_o one_o hundred_o &_o twenty_o freeholder_n and_o other_o inhabitant_n qualify_v as_o aforesaid_a or_o upward_o may_v send_v two_o such_o representative_n and_o each_o town_n of_o the_o number_n of_o thirty_o freeholder_n and_o other_o inhabitant_n qualify_v as_o aforesaid_a or_o upward_o under_o forty_o be_v at_o liberty_n to_o send_v or_o not_o but_o may_v choose_v and_o send_v one_o representative_a if_o they_o think_v fit_a to_o serve_v for_o and_o represent_v they_o respective_o in_o every_o session_n of_o the_o great_a and_o general_a court_n or_o assembly_n from_o time_n to_o time_n and_o all_o town_n under_o thirty_o freeholder_n may_v send_v one_o to_o represent_v they_o or_o join_v with_o the_o next_o town_n in_o the_o choice_n of_o their_o representatives_n they_o pay_v a_o proportionable_a part_n of_o the_o charge_n and_o no_o town_n shall_v at_o any_o time_n send_v more_o than_o two_o representative_n except_o boston_n who_o be_v hereby_o grant_v to_o choose_v and_o send_v four_n and_o be_v it_o further_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o when_o and_o so_o often_o as_o his_o excellency_n the_o governor_n shall_v see_v cause_n to_o convene_v and_o hold_v a_o great_a and_o general_a court_n or_o assembly_n writt_n shall_v issue_v out_o from_o the_o secretary_n office_n under_o the_o seal_n of_o the_o province_n and_o sign_v by_o the_o governor_n thirty_o day_n at_o least_o before_o the_o time_n appoint_v for_o such_o assembly_v meeting_n direct_v unto_o the_o sheriff_n of_o the_o several_a county_n and_o where_o there_o be_v no_o sheriff_n in_o any_o county_n or_o place_n there_o to_o be_v direct_v to_o the_o marshal_n command_v each_o of_o they_o respective_o to_o send_v his_o precept_n to_o the_o select_a man_n of_o the_o several_a and_o respective_a town_n within_o such_o county_n to_o assemble_v and_o call_v together_o the_o freeholder_n and_o other_o inhabitant_n qualify_v as_o aforesaid_a to_o choose_v and_o elect_v one_o or_o more_o freeholder_n as_o the_o number_n in_o each_o town_n be_v more_o or_o less_o as_o above_o to_o serve_v for_o and_o represent_v they_o in_o such_o great_a and_o general_a court_n or_o assembly_n the_o major_a part_n of_o the_o select-man_n in_o each_o town_n respective_o to_o be_v present_a at_o such_o meeting_n and_o to_o give_v direction_n for_o the_o regular_a and_o orderly_o carry_v on_o of_o the_o same_o who_o be_v to_o return_v the_o say_a precept_n with_o the_o name_n of_o such_o as_o shall_v be_v choose_v by_o the_o major_a part_n of_o the_o elector_n present_v at_o such_o meeting_n under_o their_o hand_n unto_o the_o respective_a sheriff_n or_o marshal_n by_o they_o to_o be_v return_v into_o the_o secretary_n office_n one_o day_n at_o the_o least_o before_o the_o time_n prefix_v for_o the_o say_a court_n or_o assembly_n sit_v and_o it_o be_v further_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o the_o representative_n assemble_v in_o any_o great_a and_o general_a court_n shall_v be_v the_o sole_a judge_n of_o the_o election_n and_o qualification_n of_o their_o own_o member_n and_o may_v from_o time_n to_o time_n settle_n order_n and_o purge_v their_o house_n and_o make_v such_o necessary_a order_n for_o the_o due_a regulation_n thereof_o as_o they_o shall_v see_v occasion_n and_o forty_o representative_n at_o any_o time_n so_o assemble_v shall_v be_v account_v a_o number_n sufficient_a to_o constitute_v a_o house_n pass_v bill_n and_o to_o transact_v and_o do_v business_n proper_a to_o be_v do_v in_o that_o house_n and_o such_o act_n to_o be_v esteem_v valid_a and_o of_o effect_n and_o it_o be_v further_o enact_v by_o the_o authority_n aforesaid_a that_o each_o town_n respective_o shall_v pay_v unto_o their_o several_a representative_n during_o their_o attendance_n on_o the_o court_n and_o for_o the_o necessary_a time_n expend_v in_o their_o
