spirit_n instead_o of_o be_v legal_a and_o merciful_a prosecutor_n be_v dreadful_a oppressor_n &_o persecutor_n of_o such_o as_o be_v their_o fellow_n protestant_n xii_o now_o for_o as_o much_o as_o the_o poor_a protestant_a dissenter_n be_v prosecute_v and_o so_o be_v distress_v by_o divers_a law_n that_o be_v put_v in_o execution_n against_o they_o let_v those_o law_n be_v sober_o consider_v together_o with_o the_o person_n and_o thing_n for_o which_o they_o be_v prosecute_v that_o so_o neither_o the_o law_n nor_o the_o king_n subject_n may_v be_v abuse_v by_o reason_n of_o the_o the_o right_a execution_n of_o that_o authority_n that_o the_o king_n and_o the_o law_n have_v invest_v they_o with_o and_o therefore_o a_o particular_a account_n of_o those_o statute_n by_o which_o the_o protestant_a dissenter_n be_v prosecute_v to_o their_o great_a damage_n for_o such_o thing_n as_o they_o do_v humble_o conclude_v to_o be_v the_o matter_n of_o their_o god_n with_o some_o sober_a consideration_n upon_o the_o say_a law_n take_v as_o follow_v the_o protestant_a dissenter_n be_v in_o some_o place_n prosecute_v by_o the_o statute_n anno_fw-la primo_fw-la reginae_fw-la elizabethae_fw-la chapter_n 2._o paragraph_n 14._o where_o it_o be_v ordain_v that_o all_o and_o every_o person_n and_o person_n inhabit_v within_o this_o realm_n or_o any_o other_o the_o queen_n dominion_n shall_v resort_v to_o their_o parish_n church_n or_o chappel_n or_o to_o some_o usual_a place_n where_o common-prayer_n and_o such_o service_n of_o god_n shall_v be_v sue_v upon_o every_o sunday_n and_o other_o day_n ordain_v and_o sue_v to_o be_v keep_v as_o holiday_n and_o then_o and_o there_o to_o abide_v orderly_o and_o sober_o during_o the_o time_n of_o the_o common-prayer_n preach_v or_o other_o service_n of_o god_n there_o to_o be_v use_v and_o minister_v upon_o pain_n of_o punishment_n by_o the_o censure_n of_o the_o church_n and_o also_o upon_o pain_n that_o every_o person_n so_o offend_v shall_v forfeit_v for_o every_o such_o offence_n twelvepence_n to_o be_v levy_v by_o the_o church_n warden_n of_o the_o parish_n where_o such_o offence_n shall_v be_v do_v to_o the_o use_n of_o the_o poor_a of_o the_o same_o parish_n of_o the_o good_n land_n and_o tenement_n of_o such_o offender_n by_o way_n of_o distress_n and_o in_o paragraph_n 20._o it_o be_v enact_v that_o no_o person_n or_o person_n shall_v be_v impeach_v or_o otherwise_o molest_v for_o any_o of_o the_o offence_n in_o the_o say_a act_n unless_o he_o or_o they_o so_o offend_v be_v thereof_o book_n of_o common-prayer_n or_o to_o minister_v the_o sacrament_n in_o such_o order_n and_o form_n as_o be_v mention_v in_o the_o say_a book_n in_o any_o cathedral_n or_o parish-church_n or_o other_o place_n or_o that_o shall_v use_v any_o other_o form_n or_o order_n of_o celebrate_v the_o sacrament_n or_o that_o shall_v use_v any_o matin_n or_o even_o song_n or_o other_o public_a prayer_n than_o be_v mention_v in_o the_o say_a book_n or_o that_o shall_v preach_v declare_v or_o speak_v anything_o in_o the_o derogation_n or_o deprave_v of_o the_o say_a book_n or_o any_o part_n thereof_o and_o shall_v be_v lawful_o convict_v thereof_o by_o the_o verdict_n of_o twelve_o man_n shall_v for_o his_o first_o offence_n forfeit_v all_o his_o spiritual_a benefice_n or_o promotion_n for_o one_o the_o cast_v out_o and_o throw_v down_o of_o popery_n 2._o that_o by_o this_o statute_n the_o protestant_a religion_n be_v revive_v and_o confirm_v and_o so_o the_o reformation_n be_v further_o carry_v on_o as_o it_o be_v in_o the_o reign_n of_o that_o happy_a prince_n edward_z the_o sixth_z 3._o consider_v that_o at_o the_o time_n of_o make_v this_o statute_n the_o whole_a realm_n do_v consist_v of_o protestant_n and_o papist_n consider_v as_o clergy_n and_o laity_n the_o realm_n be_v not_o then_o acquaint_v with_o such_o a_o thing_n as_o protestant-dissenters_a and_o therefore_o it_o can_v be_v fair_o suppose_v that_o this_o act_n be_v intend_v for_o such_o bare_o as_o such_o but_o the_o design_n of_o this_o act_n be_v first_o to_o settle_v a_o protestant-ministry_n to_o manage_v the_o protestant_a religion_n according_a to_o the_o light_n of_o that_o day_n second_o to_o remove_v all_o such_o as_o be_v popish_o affect_v from_o ministerial_a office_n that_o so_o they_o may_v not_o keep_v the_o queen_n subject_n in_o popish_a blindness_n
majesty_n law_n or_o shall_v by_o print_v write_v or_o express_a word_n or_o speech_n advise_o or_o purposely_o practise_v or_o go_v about_o to_o move_v any_o of_o her_o majesty_n subject_n or_o any_o other_o to_o deny_v withstand_v or_o impugn_v her_o majesty_n power_n and_o authority_n in_o case_n ecclesiastical_a or_o shall_v advise_o and_o malicious_o move_v or_o persuade_v any_o other_o person_n to_o forbear_v to_o come_v to_o church_n to_o hear_v divine_a service_n or_o the_o communion_n according_a to_o her_o majesty_n law_n or_o to_o come_v to_o or_o be_v present_a at_o any_o unlawful_a assembly_n conventicle_n or_o meeting_n under_o colour_n or_o pretence_n of_o any_o exercise_n of_o religion_n contrary_a to_o her_o majesty_n say_v law_n and_o statute_n or_o shall_v willing_o join_v in_o or_o be_v present_a at_o any_o such_o assembly_n conventicle_n or_o meeting_n that_o then_o every_o such_o offender_n be_v lawful_o convict_v shall_v be_v commit_v to_o prison_n there_o to_o remain_v without_o bail_n or_o mainprize_n until_o they_o shall_v conform_v and_o yield_v themselves_o to_o come_v to_o some_o church_n or_o chappel_n or_o usual_a place_n of_o common-prayer_n and_o hear_v divine_a service_n see_v paragraph_n 1_o 2._o it_o be_v provide_v in_o the_o same_o statute_n that_o if_o such_o offender_n so_o convict_v as_o aforesaid_a shall_v not_o conform_v in_o come_v to_o church_n to_o hear_v divine_a service_n and_o to_o make_v such_o open_a confession_n as_o be_v after_o appoint_v by_o this_o statute_n be_v require_v thereunto_o within_o the_o space_n of_o three_o month_n after_o conviction_n by_o the_o bishop_n of_o the_o diocese_n or_o any_o justice_n of_o peace_n of_o the_o county_n where_o the_o person_n shall_v happen_v to_o be_v or_o by_o the_o minister_n or_o curate_n of_o the_o parish_n that_o then_o every_o such_o offender_n upon_o his_o be_v warn_v and_o require_v by_o any_o justice_n of_o peace_n of_o the_o same_o county_n shall_v upon_o his_o corporal_a oath_n abjure_v this_o realm_n and_o all_o other_o her_o majesty_n dominion_n and_o country_n and_o shall_v not_o return_v without_o licence_n from_o her_o majesty_n see_v paragraph_n 2._o 3._o it_o be_v provide_v that_o if_o such_o offender_n shall_v refuse_v to_o make_v such_o abjuration_n as_o aforesaid_a or_o after_o objuration_n make_v shall_v not_o depart_v out_o of_o this_o realm_n according_a to_o this_o present_a act_n or_o after_o such_o his_o departure_n shall_v return_v again_o without_o her_o majesty_n licence_n that_o then_o in_o every_o such_o case_n the_o person_n offend_v shall_v be_v adjudge_v a_o felon_n and_o shall_v suffer_v as_o in_o the_o case_n of_o felony_n without_o the_o benefit_n of_o clergy_n see_v paragraph_n 3_o 4._o it_o be_v further_a enact_v that_o if_o such_o offender_n before_o he_o or_o they_o be_v so_o warn_v or_o require_v to_o make_v abjuration_n shall_v repair_v to_o some_o parish-church_n on_o some_o sunday_n or_o festival_n day_n and_o there_o hear_v divine_a service_n and_o make_v public_a and_o open_a submission_n and_o declaration_n of_o his_o and_o their_o conformity_n that_o then_o the_o same_o offender_n shall_v be_v clear_o discharge_v of_o all_o the_o penalty_n and_o punishment_n inflict_v or_o impose_v by_o this_o act._n the_o form_n of_o submission_n be_v as_o follow_v see_v paragraph_n 4._o 5._o i_o a_o b._n do_v humble_o confess_v and_o acknowledge_v that_o i_o have_v grievous_o offend_v god_n in_o contemn_v her_o majesty_n godly_a and_o lawful_a government_n and_o authority_n by_o absent_v myself_o from_o church_n and_o from_o hear_v divine_a service_n contrary_a to_o the_o godly_a law_n and_o statute_n of_o this_o realm_n and_o in_o use_v and_o frequent_v disorder_v and_o unlawful_a conventicle_n and_o assembly_n under_o pretence_n and_o colour_n of_o exercise_n of_o religion_n and_o i_o be_o hearty_o sorry_a for_o the_o same_o and_o do_v acknowledge_v provide_v by_o this_o statute_n that_o every_o person_n that_o shall_v abjure_v or_o refuse_v to_o abjure_v be_v require_v thereunto_o as_o aforesaid_a shall_v forfeit_v and_o lose_v to_o her_o majesty_n all_o his_o good_n and_o chattle_n for_o ever_o and_o shall_v further_o lose_v all_o his_o land_n tenement_n and_o hereditament_n for_o and_o during_o the_o life_n only_o of_o such_o offender_n &_o no_o long_o and_o that_o the_o wife_n of_o such_o offender_n shall_v not_o lose_v her_o dower_n and_o that_o the_o heir_n of_o such_o offender_n after_o the_o death_n of_o such_o offender_n shall_v have_v and_o enjoy_v the_o land_n tenement_n and_o hereditament_n of_o such_o offender_n from_o this_o statute_n let_v these_o thing_n be_v consider_v 1._o that_o it_o be_v evident_a this_o statute_n be_v make_v for_o the_o punish_n of_o sueh_a as_o be_v not_o at_o all_o account_v papist_n or_o popish_a recusant_n and_o this_o will_v appear_v in_o these_o follow_a reason_n first_o because_o the_o design_n of_o the_o statute_n be_v for_o the_o prevent_n and_o avoid_v of_o great_a inconvenience_n and_o peril_n as_o may_v happen_v and_o grow_v by_o the_o wicked_a and_o dangerous_a practice_n of_o seditious_a sectary_n and_o disloyal_a person_n now_o this_o word_n seditious_a sectary_n do_v distinguish_v some_o person_n from_o those_o that_o by_o the_o law_n of_o this_o realm_n be_v call_v papist_n or_o popish_a recusant_n second_o because_o popish_a recusant_n be_v exempt_v from_o abjure_v of_o the_o realm_n by_o virtue_n of_o the_o aforesaid_a statute_n which_o be_v a_o plain_a demonstration_n that_o the_o severity_n of_o this_o same_o law_n be_v make_v and_o intend_v for_o such_o as_o be_v not_o papist_n or_o popish_a recusant_n and_o therefore_o good_a reason_n to_o conclude_v that_o those_o other_o statute_n in_o which_o mention_n be_v make_v of_o the_o popish_a party_n be_v make_v only_o against_o they_o and_o not_o against_o such_o as_o be_v in_o this_o statute_n call_v sectary_n who_o be_v not_o papist_n 2._o consider_v how_o those_o person_n be_v describe_v for_o who_o the_o punishment_n of_o this_o statute_n be_v provide_v viz._n yea_o belzebub_n the_o prince_n of_o the_o devil_n and_o he_o be_v prosecute_v unto_o death_n as_o be_v a_o blasphemer_n and_o therefore_o it_o must_v not_o be_v wonder_v at_o if_o those_o that_o be_v now_o most_o pure_a in_o the_o profession_n and_o practire_n of_o the_o christian_a religion_n be_v call_v seditious_a sectary_n and_o disloyal_a person_n though_o indeed_o and_o in_o truth_n they_o be_v not_o such_o as_o may_v be_v true_o say_v of_o the_o protestant_a dissenter_n 1._o they_o be_v not_o seditious_a person_n because_o they_o make_v the_o word_n of_o god_n the_o rule_n of_o their_o faith_n and_o practice_n promote_a the_o christian_a religion_n in_o every_o part_n of_o it_o as_o it_o be_v in_o opposition_n to_o popery_n according_a to_o the_o best_a of_o their_o light_n and_o knowledge_n in_o the_o holy_a scripture_n endeavour_v to_o
authority_n and_o do_v promise_n that_o from_o henceforth_o i_o shall_v bear_v faith_n and_o true_a allegiance_n to_o the_o queen_n highness_n her_o heir_n and_o lawful_a successor_n and_o to_o my_o
