that_o god_n require_v no_o obedience_n to_o any_o scripture-command_n and_o this_o deponent_a further_o say_v that_o after_o the_o say_a sermon_n be_v end_v the_o say_a m._n webb_n be_v ask_v by_o this_o deponent_a what_o then_o mean_v all_o the_o epistle_n of_o the_o apostle_n whereunto_o the_o say_a m._n webb_n then_o answer_v that_o they_o concern_v we_o not_o edward_n stokes_n of_o tytherton_n lucas_n in_o the_o say_a county_n of_o wilts_n esq._n age_a thirty_o six_o year_n or_o thereabouts_o swear_v and_o examine_v depose_v as_o follow_v to_o the_o first_o article_n this_o deponent_a say_v 1._o that_o after_o m._n hughes_n have_v leave_v the_o parsonage_n of_o langley_n burhill_n aforesaid_a the_o same_o be_v destitute_a of_o a_o incumbent_n one_o m._n martin_n have_v order_n both_o from_o the_o honourable_a committee_n of_o plunder_a minister_n and_o also_o from_o the_o committee_n of_o the_o say_a county_n of_o wilts_n to_o officiate_v there_o and_o to_o receive_v the_o tithe_n and_o profit_n there-out_a arise_v which_o order_n the_o say_a m._n martin_n show_v unto_o this_o deponent_a and_o upon_o the_o request_n of_o the_o say_a martin_n this_o deponent_a go_v along_o with_o he_o unto_o the_o parish-church_n of_o langley_n burhill_n aforesaid_a who_o be_v come_v thither_o and_o intend_v to_o preach_v be_v oppose_v by_o the_o say_a m._n webb_n mistress_n mary_n white_n and_o some_o other_o of_o the_o parishioner_n who_o labour_v to_o have_v m._n webb_n to_o officiate_v there_o some_o of_o they_o then_o conceive_v he_o to_o be_v a_o very_a godly_a and_o profitable_a man_n but_o have_v since_o find_v themselves_o deceive_v and_o other_o upon_o his_o promise_n of_o not_o take_v tithe_n of_o they_o do_v altogether_o set_v themselves_o against_o the_o say_a m._n martin_n which_o make_v he_o to_o depart_v thence_o and_o leave_v the_o cure_n and_o the_o say_a m._n webb_n have_v thereupon_o continue_v there_o ever_o since_o without_o any_o order_n or_o other_o title_n to_o the_o same_o place_n to_o the_o second_o article_n this_o deponent_a say_v 2._o that_o there_o have_v former_o be_v overmuch_o familiarity_n between_o the_o say_a mr_n webb_n and_o the_o say_a mistress_n white_n the_o wife_n of_o henry_n white_n gent._n about_o june_n 1650._o there_o happen_v a_o great_a variance_n between_o they_o the_o say_a m._n webb_n and_o mistress_n white_n the_o say_a webb_n then_o seem_o profess_v to_o this_o deponent_a to_o be_v a_o great_a penitent_a and_o exceed_o trouble_v for_o his_o vile_a conversation_n and_o divers_a time_n since_o that_o do_v both_o by_o word_n and_o letter_n of_o his_o own_o hand-writing_n confess_v to_o this_o deponent_a that_o he_o have_v commit_v the_o detestable_a sin_n of_o uncleanness_n with_o the_o say_a mistress_n white_n through_o who_o temptation_n he_o have_v commit_v it_o so_o frequent_o with_o she_o that_o at_o length_n he_o be_v glad_a when_o he_o have_v the_o liberty_n to_o walk_v in_o the_o air_n and_o the_o say_a m._n webb_n seem_v to_o this_o deponent_a to_o be_v so_o penitent_a that_o he_o wish_v himself_o accurse_v for_o the_o precious_a gospel_n sake_n that_o have_v be_v so_o blaspheme_v by_o his_o wicked_a and_o unclean_a conversation_n and_o further_o say_v that_o solicitation_n be_v use_v to_o bring_v he_o over_o and_o reconcile_v he_o again_o unto_o the_o say_a mistress_n white_n but_o he_o then_o wish_v say_v oh_o that_o i_o may_v be_v accurse_v and_o the_o earth_n swallow_v i_o up_o alive_a rather_o than_o i_o shall_v harken_v unto_o she_o any_o more_o notwithstanding_o all_o which_o imprecation_n he_o short_o after_o grow_v intimate_a and_o familiar_a with_o she_o again_o and_o be_v so_o open_a and_o impudent_a in_o his_o carriage_n with_o the_o say_a mistress_n white_n that_o he_o be_v charge_v upon_o oath_n to_o have_v be_v take_v in_o the_o very_a act_n of_o adultery_n with_o the_o say_a mistress_n white_n whereupon_o they_o both_o be_v commit_v to_o the_o common-goal_n for_o the_o county_n of_o wilts_n aforesaid_a there_o to_o remain_v until_o they_o shall_v be_v discharge_v from_o thence_o by_o due_a order_n of_o law_n robert_n jeffryes_n of_o langley_n aforesaid_a yeoman_n age_v forty_o three_o year_n or_o thereabouts_o swear_v and_o examine_v depose_v as_o follow_v to_o the_o second_o article_n this_o deponent_a say_v 2._o that_o this_o deponent_n wife_n be_v send_v for_o to_o mistress_n white_n the_o wife_n of_o henry_n white_n of_o langley_n aforesaid_a gent._n when_o she_o be_v intravell_n with_o her_o child_n whereof_o she_o be_v then_o short_o afterwards_o deliver_v the_o say_a m._n webb_n come_v to_o this_o deponent_n house_n about_o a_o week_n space_n after_o her_o
