instruction_n to_o be_v observe_v by_o the_o several_a justice_n of_o peace_n in_o the_o several_a county_n within_o this_o commonwealth_n for_o the_o better_a prevention_n of_o robbery_n burglary_n and_o other_o outrage_n whereas_o great_a robbery_n burglary_n and_o other_o outrage_n be_v daily_o commit_v to_o the_o exceed_a great_a damage_n and_o danger_n of_o the_o commonwealth_n it_o be_v therefore_o in_o pursuance_n of_o the_o special_a order_n of_o parliament_n to_o we_o direct_v order_v for_o the_o future_a that_o the_o ensue_a direction_n be_v forthwith_o put_v in_o execution_n by_o all_o justice_n of_o peace_n in_o their_o several_a county_n viz._n i_o you_o be_v to_o cause_v all_o law_n in_o force_n against_o rogue_n vagabond_n and_o sturdy_a beggar_n to_o be_v due_o and_o effectual_o execute_v ii_o you_o be_v to_o cause_v sufficient_a watch_n and_o ward_n to_o be_v keep_v by_o person_n able_a in_o body_n with_o bill_n gun_n or_o other_o weapon_n in_o all_o fit_a place_n and_o town_n adjoin_v to_o any_o great_a road_n and_o that_o you_o give_v order_n to_o the_o constable_n of_o every_o such_o town_n that_o post_n rail_n and_o gate_n be_v set_v up_o in_o every_o such_o place_n and_o town_n to_o the_o end_n to_o examine_v all_o passenger_n as_o also_o thereby_o to_o stop_v the_o speedy_a flight_n of_o all_o thief_n and_o robber_n iii_o and_o in_o order_n to_o their_o more_o speedy_a apprehension_n you_o shall_v give_v order_n that_o they_o have_v in_o readiness_n in_o every_o such_o town_n a_o expert_a person_n and_o a_o able_a horse_n to_o be_v a_o guide_n to_o such_o as_o at_o any_o time_n shall_v be_v in_o pursuit_n of_o thief_n and_o robber_n iv._o you_o shall_v give_v order_n that_o as_o they_o shall_v meet_v with_o or_o apprehend_v any_o such_o or_o any_o whatever_o suspicious_a person_n that_o they_o forthwith_o carry_v they_o before_o the_o next_o justice_n of_o the_o peace_n to_o be_v by_o he_o proceed_v withal_o according_a to_o law_n v._o you_o shall_v take_v care_n effectual_o to_o suppress_v all_o unlicensed_a alehouse_n and_o all_o such_o alehouse_n and_o house_n whatsoever_o usual_o entertain_v traveller_n and_o stranger_n which_o do_v stand_v in_o blind_a corner_n out_o of_o the_o view_n of_o town_n or_o house_n vi_o that_o to_o all_o such_o as_o shall_v necessary_o be_v continue_v and_o all_o and_o every_o the_o innholder_n within_o their_o county_n you_o shall_v give_v order_n to_o give_v in_o write_v every_o night_n viz._n by_o six_o of_o the_o clock_n in_o winter_n and_o by_o eight_o of_o the_o clock_n in_o summer_n to_o the_o justice_n of_o the_o peace_n or_o to_o such_o other_o as_o shall_v be_v by_o they_o depute_v of_o the_o number_n of_o all_o traveller_n lodging_n within_o their_o respective_a house_n and_o whither_o they_o be_v travel_v with_o a_o full_a description_n of_o their_o apparel_n of_o their_o horse_n gelding_n and_o mare_n and_o in_o case_n of_o default_n herein_o by_o any_o innholder_n or_o alehousekeeper_n he_o or_o they_o so_o offend_v be_v to_o be_v suppress_v and_o not_o suffer_v after_o to_o hold_v or_o keep_v any_o inn_n or_o alehouse_n and_o you_o be_v to_o give_v order_n to_o the_o several_a constable_n to_o return_v you_o a_o weekly_a account_n of_o their_o proceed_n herein_o and_o you_o be_v every_o month_n to_o give_v a_o account_n of_o your_o proceed_n to_o this_o council_n sign_a in_o the_o name_n and_o by_o order_n of_o the_o council_n of_o state_n appoint_v by_o authority_n of_o parliament_n london_n print_v for_o edward_n husband_n 1649._o
