cr_o dieu·et_n mon·droit_fw-fr honi·soit·qvi·mal·y_fw-fr pense_fw-fr by_o the_o king_n a_o proclamation_n against_o fight_v of_o duel_n charles_n r._n whereas_o it_o be_v become_v too_o frequent_a especial_o with_o person_n of_o quality_n under_o a_o vain_a pretence_n of_o honour_n to_o take_v upon_o they_o to_o be_v the_o revenger_n of_o their_o private_a quarrel_n by_o duel_n and_o single_a combat_n upon_o slight_a and_o which_o ought_v not_o to_o be_v upon_o any_o provocation_n we_o consider_v that_o the_o sin_n of_o murder_n be_v detestable_a before_o god_n and_o this_o way_n of_o prosecute_v satisfaction_n scandalous_a to_o christian_a religion_n and_o the_o manifest_a violation_n of_o our_o law_n and_o authority_n have_v by_o our_o declaration_n publish_v at_o brussels_n the_o twenty_o four_o day_n of_o november_n 1658._o manifest_v to_o the_o world_n our_o utter_a dislike_n of_o such_o impious_a and_o unlawful_a duel_n now_o out_o of_o our_o pious_a care_n to_o prevent_v unchristian_a and_o rash_a effusion_n of_o blood_n do_v by_o this_o our_o proclamation_n strict_o charge_n and_o command_v all_o our_o love_a subject_n of_o what_o quality_n soever_o that_o neither_o they_o by_o themselves_o nor_o by_o other_o either_o by_o message_n word_n write_v or_o other_o way_n or_o mean_n challenge_n or_o cause_n to_o be_v challenge_v any_o person_n or_o person_n to_o fight_n in_o combat_n or_o single_a duel_n nor_o carry_v accept_v or_o conceal_v any_o such_o challenge_n or_o appointment_n nor_o actual_o fight_v such_o duel_n with_o any_o of_o our_o subject_n or_o other_o or_o as_o a_o second_o or_o otherwise_o accompany_v or_o become_v assistant_n therein_o and_o we_o do_v hereby_o declare_v that_o every_o person_n or_o person_n who_o shall_v offend_v contrary_a to_o this_o our_o express_a command_n shall_v not_o only_o incur_v our_o high_a displeasure_n but_o thereby_o become_v incapable_a of_o hold_v or_o entertain_v either_o office_n or_o employment_n in_o our_o service_n and_o never_o afterwards_o be_v permit_v to_o come_v into_o our_o court_n or_o presence_n and_o further_o he_o or_o they_o to_o suffer_v such_o other_o pain_n and_o punishment_n as_o the_o law_n shall_v inflict_v upon_o offence_n of_o that_o horrid_a nature_n and_o we_o do_v further_o declare_v that_o if_o any_o person_n or_o person_n whatsoever_o do_v receive_v accept_v or_o know_v of_o any_o challenge_n send_v or_o deliver_v as_o aforesaid_a and_o do_v not_o forthwith_o give_v notice_n thereof_o unto_o some_o of_o our_o privy_a council_n or_o otherwise_o to_o the_o next_o justice_n of_o peace_n near_o whereunto_o the_o say_a offence_n shall_v be_v commit_v he_o or_o they_o so_o offend_v shall_v be_v liable_a to_o the_o penalty_n before_o express_v and_o proceed_v against_o according_a to_o law_n with_o all_o rigour_n and_o severity_n and_o last_o we_o do_v hereby_o forbid_v all_o intercession_n or_o mediation_n unto_o we_o to_o be_v make_v for_o or_o on_o the_o behalf_n of_o the_o offender_n hereby_o declare_v that_o we_o will_v not_o extend_v our_o pardon_n to_o any_o person_n that_o shall_v contemn_v our_o command_n express_v by_o this_o proclamation_n give_v at_o our_o court_n at_o whitehall_n the_o thirteen_o day_n of_o august_n in_o the_o twelve_o year_n of_o our_o reign_n 1660._o
